The loveliest place! I usually don’t post reviews, but I have to say this will be a staple from here on out. The staff, the atmosphere, and the place itself are all so inviting. And so many different food & drink options! Absolutely delicious!

Over the course of the past four days, the owner and incredible staff have hosted me every morning, (for several hours at a time). The coffee drinks are incredible. The breakfast options varied, tasty, and very filling. And each member of the staff has been professional, cordial, and friendly. I had the absolute pleasure of speaking with David, who incidentally has been there since the inception of the coffee house & art gallery. He took the time to explain the history, and even shared some incredible stories. He has an interesting emotional attachment to the business, and a real sense of pride. (I admired him for that). And I was genuinely honored to be able to share that moment. I was also excited to be able to “pull the trigger” and buy a piece of artwork today, that I had been working looking at for the past four days. Overall, I’d say that my experiences at Mestizo are precisely what kept drawing me back, and exactly why I have every intention to return again. Whether it’s the atmosphere, the amazing artwork, the strong coffee drinks that got me going every morning, or the people within the organization, walking through those doors and sitting on that sofa was like a temporary “Welcome home” for me. But now, my time in Salt Lake is winding down. And it’s off to another venue, in another city. (I tour with musical artists & bands). But I can assure everybody that when I return to SLC, my first morning stop will be to the Mestizo. Many thanks to David and the entire staff at Mestizo Coffee House for your kindness, your hospitality, and for treating me like a member of the community. I look forward to seeing all of you again, very soon.

M family and I recently moved to the area about a month ago and became regulars. We like to conserve on our utility bill so we use a portable battery charger box to charge our devices and use alternative forms of lighting for our new apt. We came in 3-5 days a week to charge our battery box with my small service dog and our 4 yr old. I lost my van recently,so we've been on foot, using a wagon or a bike & trailer as transportation for our dog and child. We buy coffee every time we come in. We were charging our charger battery box there too & sometimes we wait 4 it to charge and sometimes the baristas were nice enough to allow us to leave it for the day and come back for it later. It's only cuz times are hard for us as we've lost 2 very important men in our family, my oldest son to c19 in 2022,&my father this Xmas eve; Otherwise we wouldn't be trying to conserve our utility bill. We tipped the baristas very kindly, and sometimes my husband would get cash back on our tap pay bcuz he recently lost his PayPal card and hasn't been able to use an ATM. Today we went there just to buy coffee, and left our battery box at HOME. our toddler was asleep in our wagon ,as shes been under the weather this winter. I'm an artist who loves to paint ,sculpt, and draw sugar skulls. They have an art gallery there featuring Latino art works and sugar skull decorations and paintings. I was going to ask to display my art there. I was taking pics of some of the paintings that inspired me ,then I sat down w my lil dog on the couch. My husband ordered coffee and got $40 Cash back on our tap pay. The owner was in the shop today. Next thing I know he comes up to us and yells at us saying he's not our ATM and was really rude. He didn't bother to find out that it was only bcuz we don't have our physical card yet. It was prob mailed to our old addy cuz like I said, we just moved to this area. After the owner was so rude to us ,we decided to leave, and my husband forgot his cell phone. We didn't realize it till after we went rancheros market. He called the shop ,found out it was there and went back, when he got it from the owner, he very rudely told him we were not welcome back. My husband said,"why?" the owner said for 15 different reasons. We are a WHITE FAMILY. Either the OWNER is RACIST or DISCRIMINATIVE against struggling white families, cuz the baristas are all very nice to us,as we WERE regulars that tipped VERY GENEROUSLY. TOO BAD. they will be missing out my art displays and their baristas will be missing out on our regular generous tips. If you like RACIST AND DISCRIMINATIVE places, keep going to mestizos,as for my family and I ,we will take the tracks to coffee break from now on. What a JOKE!

Google
We loved it! The coffee was amazing. My pesto turkey panini was delicious. The service was very good, and the owner came over to chat with us. I like that this place features local artists and has a clear vibe and style that’s not cookie-cutter.

Google
I found this gem on my way to airport hoping to spend some time enjoying their excellent coffee, nice homemade food and cool artistic décor. The food, atmosphere were just what we looked for, and i can recommend this place highly to anyone wanted to relax in the great surroundings. Now, about a glitch. They are open only till 3pm at this time, which is unusual and since we stopped by in transition , did not pay attention to the sign at the door - our fault clearly. However when you order some food only 10 minutes before the closing you expect to be warned before making the order - not after you already paid for it. Here's the reason i had to take one star off. Otherwise it is an awesome place !

Google
Gorgeous interior, gotta love a coffee shop with poetry welcoming you inside. Dirty horchata is a revelation. I loved seeing the "Local Tesoros" wall -- as a guest to the city, it was nice to see the places that are loved by the folks who live here. Great coffee & a welcoming, community-minded atmosphere.

Google
The owner or worker was very rude because I started reading a book while waiting for a friend. He came up and said “we’re not a library” and proceeded to kick me out for not purchasing anything I was only there for about 10-15 min. It was a Friday evening and I was 1 of 2 customers there. Safe to say I did not buy anything and told my friend to meet elsewhere. First time there never going back. Very poor customer service.

Google
let me preface by saying i NEVER post google reviews, so for me to write this sucks. The restaurant is great! The owner is so kind, and all the girls on the crew are so sweet and helpful. But, how come every time i come in and the girls aren’t there, the card reader is broken? this morning, i went, and one of the guy workers was there. i try to use tap pay, and he says it’s broken. so i say “okay, im tired of this.” i ask my HUSBAND to go down, but 5 minutes later.. tell me why the tap pay works for him? and then my roommate goes and it works for him? i LOVE mestizo, but truly i’m about to find another cafe if i can’t pay for my coffee but everyone else can.

Yelp
Mestizo is a lovely neighborhood hub. Employees are friendly and prepare good coffee drinks, and they give the option of a to-stay cup -- this was a pretty, sage-green mug. They devote wall space to a map of customers' favorite spots in Salt Lake, from home in Fair Park to taquerias, parks, shops. There's also nice windows with some people watching, books in Spanish and English on side tables, an in-house art gallery, and a bulletin board of neighborhood news. Also, around 10 am on a Sunday when I was there, around eight other customers were there -- it's nice to have a good balance of bustle in a coffee shop and this fit the bill. Really fab. Thank you, Mestizo!

Yelp
Highly highly recommend Mestizo Coffeehouse! I love their sandwiches, drinks, and ambience. They feature local artists and this is always a highlight. I come here to work once in a while and it's a nice space to do so. For drinks, you can't go wrong with their hot or cold beverages. I usually a chia or dirty chia!

Ian L.

Yelp
This spot is pretty neat, serving up quality sandwiches & drinks with a unique ambiance. Fair prices and good value all around. This is a good spot to hang, study, or get work done. Very comfy. The shop doubles as an art gallery, so come support local artists! There's lot parking in the apartment complex where the shop is located.

H M.

Yelp
Great coffee shop with plenty of seating, an extensive menu featuring coffee and numerous beverages that aren't coffee, and delicious empanadas.

Chris W.

Yelp
We happened on this lovely oasis while looking for a lunch place and what is better than brunch all day? The setting was perfect and the food and service even better. You must track down this spot if you want a delicious meal in a quaint and inviting location in València! And if you like dogs even better! Chris and Vicki from Indianapolis.

Yelp
I wish I could give this 4.5 stars. The 4 coffees we ordered were good, but the pictures on the website make it look like you'd be served in a unique mug and get a cool design on your foam. We didn't get food, but it all looked delicious. It was strange that I had to get a key from the barista to use the restroom. Taste: 5/5 Presentation: 3/5 ambiance: 4/5

Yelp
A great space to get food and a drink, not many vegan/vegetarian options though. The space inside is large, good amount of tables and places to charge. Wifi is a little slow, but usable to do school work but really slow for zoom or facetime calls. Lots of community resources and art around! As someone new to SLC, it's been helpful for finding ways to keep up with the community. Open late too, so great to hangout or study.

Rachel B.

Yelp
Mexican coffee and lattes were delicious! The breakfast sandwich was also delicious. There were so many delicious food options it was hard to choose!
google avatar

Yelp
Really nice place, they don't open until 8 pm I ordered the Mexican Mocha, with chocolate abuelita, it was delicious, I am not into coffee but this one was great Good amount of parking , next time I will come hungry since the items on the menu sounded, as we say in Mexico, Deli!

Sidney P.

Yelp
Great vibe, good coffee, get the empanadas! My favorite was the chorizo. Great place for working or studying or just having a nice coffee. Will be back!

Yelp
A hole in the wall coffee shop with lots of character and life. Tucked away in a little alcove of Citifront apartments off 600 W North Temple. I love the rich history of fusing coffee and art, with a gallery of art featuring local artists. They have a variety of coffee, pastry, and food items from ready made (pastries, donuts, desserts, etc) to fresh made food (sandwiches, empanadas, etc). I first went on a weekday right before closing, so it was pretty empty, but on the weekends it's teeming with life. I sat and enjoyed the buzzing of chess games, people meeting up, while others were doing work/homework or there to just hang out for a minute. I enjoy the artwork and I love that they sell merchandise from local artists as well. I love that it's located a hop, skip, and a jump away from my home - still one of the few local coffee shops that's pretty close and accessible. Loving the vibes!

Yelp
Best breakfast and lunch i've had in Utah! They have great food and the workers are really nice, also the place is nice aswell, its quiet and a place to enjoy your food!
google avatar

Tami E.

Yelp
I ordered a cinnamon roll and two coffees. The roll wasn't good. It was hard. The container for dirty money is a bit much. Money has always been duty. Did people just find out about germs after covid??
google avatar

Yelp
Mestizo holds a special place in my heart.. it was the place I went on a first date with my significant other :) they have so many drink options here! I usually get the bloody chai but tried the London fog this time. It was unique and unlike other ones I've had, probably because of their earl grey tea? It's a good space to study, they have several tables and outlets. They also have a gallery with events hosted from time to time. Lots of culture and art in this coffee shop.
google avatar

Yelp
I had been here before to meet a friend but I don't know if I ever got to try their coffee until my coworker had her sweet daughter delivery us some all the way to the salon were at in Sandy (hashtag hair) from this downtown spot! Had something iced coffee like with oat milk and it was some of the best tasting coffee I have had, let me tell you! Big location, kind of hidden, close to a lot of apartments, over the freeway overpass, and close to a market I believe. Lots of art hung up here and it is creative looking for sure.

Yelp
Nestled in this small apartment community is this fun, eclectic coffee shop. They have a variety of coffees, teas and food. My husband and I shared a slice of the blueberry coffee cake, and I had a dirty horchata. The dirty horchata has a shot of espresso. It was a perfect pairing. The horchata added that bit of sweetness to the espresso. I got a buzz from it too.
google avatar

Andrea C.

Yelp
A fresh new twist. All the cafes in salt lake feel the same, offer the same vibe, and serve the same stuff. It was fun to try something new. The dirty horchata is a must try, and the Mexican mocha is not like other mochas. They offer a chocolate croissant with every drink. This place goes above and beyond. You won't be disappointed.

Sona O.

Yelp
was told this place was LGBT friendly by a friend, came here and was promptly asked to leave by the owner after he called me 'guy' repeatedly. really heartbreaking experience as I could tell the shop was friendly toward natives and whatnot.
google avatar

Cesar L.

Yelp
Outstanding coffee and customer service. I ordered a large latte and the Ranchero Bagel with egg, ranchero sauce, cheese and black beans. The staff was very friendly and hospitable. The ambience is very relax, great decor and strong WiFi. This business has a very unique story, they are essentially a link to host events and run a non profit enterprise serving this community. They have a gallery and host an array of community events. Stop by, you won't regret visiting this jewel. I'll be back!

Regina A.

Yelp
Love this place. The lady recommend the Mexican Mocha and I fell in love instantly! And she was so kind!

Emilee P.

Yelp
Great local business and atmosphere to go withthe great Coffee and other yummy options.

Yelp
Contact tracing to order a coffee? REALLY? Why do I need to submit my name, email, phone number and get my temp checked to buy a coffee?? I was then offered a flu shot. Seriously. To the owner: you are out of your lane, you are not a hospital. You're barista was friendly and awesome :))

Yelp
I used to come here fairly regularly. After receiving some extremely rude service I will never be coming back. Rude to the point where it made me cry! I work in the area so a lot of time after work I'd stop by. I'm assuming it was the owner that did this because the baristas were always nice to me. I sat down and I was carrying a lot of stuff (I'm a student) so I sat everything down, plugged my dying phone in etc. I was thinking about what to order. Nobody else was in the store. Then the owner came over to me and said "can I get you something?" (With an attitude like he wasn't expecting me to buy anything) And I said "sure, just give me a minute, can't decide." Then he goes "yeah, didn't think so" and he walked away. He might have said something else before walking away, told me to leave maybe too but I don't really remember, I was so shocked that he talked to me like that. I just remember being so upset that I didn't even want to order anymore. I got up and left. And then I cried on the way home because getting a drink after work on Friday used to be the only good part of my week sometimes. I wondered why, if he thought like I looked like I had no money or something? Even if I didn't- This coffee shop claims they care about the community but now I do not believe that. It's rude to treat another human like that, let alone a customer. I will never come here again. There's a million other coffee shops where they will be nice to you and appreciate you as a customer, this is not one of them.
google avatar

Katie A.

Yelp
Really good Mexican drinks turned coffee! Love the idea & the pastries look to die for. Currently highly caffeinated on the dirty horchata
google avatar

Mia B.

Yelp
I have had great experiences here over the years, but today was a doozy! We were approached and scolded by a man, I think the manager or owner, about some chairs that had been moved a bit and instead of asking politely, we were treated with disrespect. We were lectured about "his chairs" and how this is an art gallery and how expensive the artwork is. This may all be true, but how you talk to people, your customers, matters. Pretty sure that is the last time I will go here!
google avatar

Ami N.

Yelp
Why go here? Because you want to peruse fine artwork in a comfortable setting? Because you want to support a long standing local business who serve as a community hub for social justice? Because you arrived back from the airport after a week in rural Texas, and after being sequestered in a town with only meat and potatoes, desperately need a sandwich filled to the brim with fresh tasty vegetables? Any of these would be a fine reason to stop in, but the real reason is the magic they work into their specialty drinks. Mixology is, arguably, an art all too oft applied to adult libations, and overlooked in the teetalotarian world. It's a pity, because Mestizo has mastered the art of mixing non alcoholic drinks, and let me tell you, it's an experience like no other. I have been to coffees shops from coast to coast and have NEVER tasted drinks like these. I want to describe them, but there's just no way. One latte I had, called "hellfire and brimstone", tasted like spicy burning cayenne going down, and had an aftertaste of exhaling delicate smoke. Today I stopped in and tried the "flame princess latte", which tasted like a tingle of Mediterranean spice crackling warmly with each sip. I know this sounds crazy, and every time I go, I think I must have fabricated the baristas' talent. Nope. It's pure magic. So stop in, try the food, and definitely try the drink special of the month. I've tried a dozen or so of their drinks, and every one has been amazing.

Yelp
Really great coffee with lots of Latin inspiration. I loved the Mexican mocha it's attached to an apartment complex so don't get disoriented when you pull in!
google avatar

Dolores M.

Yelp
A very eclectic and unique place. The staff delivered a warm welcome and excellent customer service. Great food and drinks! I highly recommend a visit.
google avatar

Drew R.

Yelp
You would not know about this place unless you are actually looking for it or live at the complex. Who would have thought that this hidden place serve great coffee. This cafe isn't only a coffee shop, they do have a section that is like an art section. Sometimes they do have poetry reading and other events in there. The day I went I wasn't able to go in because they were doing some kind of renovation/change to the art in there. I ordered their chai tea latte. It was pretty good. The temperature was pretty great, not too hot and not lukewarm. It was perfectly sweeten without over powering the spice. Totally recommend. The cafe doesn't have a lot of seating, but if you are able to get some seating, it's perfect for a date/studying. It's not super loud there, so you can hear each other and/or hear your own thoughts. I would definitely come back here if I'm in the area.
google avatar

Steven M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! The staff are very friendly and are taking extra precautions during Covid-19. The espresso drinks are FABULOUS! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Daniel R.

Yelp
They're serving Rimini coffee, which is a great local brew in my experience. Love the space. Plenty of seating, well-decorated, copious power outlets. Service is at times a bit tetchy. Not bad, just some of the people who work there are not terribly warm. Parking can be a bit of a problem. I'll be back!
google avatar

Jack G.

Yelp
Good solid coffee shop. Parking was easy. Big space. Lots of plugs. Nice staff/baristas. Cute art on the walls. Good WiFi. Coffee was great too! Got a cappuccino and it was great- lots of good froth but not too milky. THe flavor was strong but not overbearing so.. yea i liked it. It's a good place to study/work and enjoy some coffee and local art while you're at it.
google avatar

jayden l.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars, I would. Their coffee is similar to water, the inside makes you claustrophobic, and the entire crew is disrespectful. It's posted that they close at 3 yet they become sour to anyone who walks in their establishment an hour before close. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Ryan C.

Yelp
Was waiting for a nearby appointment to wrap up, came over here to grab a cup of coffee. Wait staff was distinctly not friendly, and didn't make any effort to be. I know its COVID season and times are tough, but... not asking for much here. I was the only customer in the shop at 1:30 on a weekday. Ordered the Bol of Sol, which I would give 3.5 stars to (a good pepper coffee is hard to find, and this one is acceptable but not exceptional). I'd go elsewhere.
google avatar

Thea P.

Yelp
I love all the ceative drinks, and holy moly, the empanadas are Amazing! I had the chicken tomatillo and chorizo and egg. Light and crispy, tasty, and a perfect little breakfast treat! I love the rotating artist displays, nd that they're always supporting local artists. If you want to truly support local, this is your go to spot!
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
I thought this was a very good place. Everyone was friendly. The coffee was delicious! I would come back.

Jude W.

Yelp
Coffee tastes like dirt, employees take their sweet time to make things as simple as a bagel with cream cheese, everything is constantly sticky and the manager is unfriendly and rude
google avatar

Tinky R.

Yelp
A hidden gem. Really good coffee and lights food menu Nice array of coffee and the barista's know their stuff
google avatar

Haley B.

Yelp
Love the coffee and food here. I like coming here if I have lots of time to kill. I wouldn't recommend coming if you're in a hurry as they are never fast. Some of the baristas are AWESOME! I've had two rude ones but maybe they were just having a bad day. Cool gallery inside.
google avatar

Dan F.

Yelp
First time visit, not regretting it one bit! Coffee served at the perfect temperature! The environment is very inviting with a lot of seating, great decor. They have an art gallery that is very cool as well. You can feel the local culture here and also it feels like you stepped into a new culture of a place. Service is super fast, friendly and super on top of the product selection and will customize anything without the "rolling eyes" we've all seen other places. Fair priced for the quality and like mentioned above, it's not lava hot. Grab, go, drink or just chill, read a book and enjoy! I'm going to be going here a lot more for sure! Only downside is the parking is slim. Early in the morning they are not packed at all which is surprising :D
google avatar

Shweta M.

Yelp
I ordered the ranchero bagel but requested that it be on a croissant and it came out so delicious!! My coffee was a Rose latte.. which the board said it was for a limited time.. glad I caught it because it was good! Loved the art and vibe of this coffee shop.. would definitely return here the next time I'm up in Utah.
google avatar

Buddy A.

Yelp
This will be one of my new go to coffee shops in SLC. The coffee and breakfast is delicious, there's a ton of seating and tables chat with friends or study, and they even have an art exhibit on site
google avatar

Quinn N.

Yelp
I like the tea setup of this place: when I order tea, they don't give me a tea bag and a cup of hot water, they actually brew it in a tea saucer and gave me an empty cup - how British is that. However, the rest seems to be lacking - below average internet quality, antique decor style and not enough lighting. For sure this is a place for chatting with friends and not for working. They sometimes have some event going on at the room right next to the coffee shop, sometimes an art gallery, sometimes a salsa event.

Sarah F.

Yelp
Everything was delicious! Staff was welcoming and friendly! Great coffeehouse to relax and enjoy some food and art! 10/10 recommend!
google avatar

Banou M.

Yelp
I stumbled on this place while visiting family in Utah. I was looking for an open mic event where I could share some of my poetry and listen to others as well. This place was beautiful. Very large space, fantastic and kind barista who was polite and exceptional, wonderful intimate open mic, and I stepped away feeling wonderful and loved. The gentleman hosting the open mic (Peter?) was also a gentleman and truly was good at introducing people and making it a safe space. He was also very talented himself. This place has it all. Good music, beautiful art, great drinks, awesome folks, and the depth and talent you expect from an open mic event. Would def return again. The kindness of everyone was truly remarkable. I must also note that the content of my poetry can be heavy and hard to accept, they not only accepted it, they gave me confidence in myself as an artist and made me feel okay in my vulnerability.
google avatar

Ivy W.

Yelp
Such a pleasant surprise stumbling across this cafe! We wanted to find a place to grab coffee coming out of the airport, and Yelp didn't give us much options. 15 min out and we got here, surprised at how cute the decor was, the gallery attached to the cafe, and most importantly the fair prices (usually cute hipster cafes charge like $4 for a coffee) We got coffee, a smoothie for five bucks and a breakfast sandwich (for 5.40 what what?) Coffee was decent, sandwich was huge and tasted pretty good. But man that smoothie was nasty lol. Supposedly blended with spinach strawberries and yogurt, all we tasted was ice... But if I look past the smoothie this is definitely a place I can see myself working and hanging out in on a Sunday morning!!

Yelp
Let's be real, a coffeehouse is like your second home. It needs to be inviting, comfy, and unique. Luckily Mestizo captures all of that. It's a great place to study, play chess, or lounge about. This coffeehouse also serves good drinks and food. I personally enjoy their egg & bacon on a cresont with some O.J. There is also a separate room where they display local art work and on other nights they do some dancing (puzzled emoji here). The service is kind and fast. But getting noticed is another story even when they're standing at the cash register.
google avatar

Aleisha B.

Yelp
I love the space and the art they host. The sweet photo collages from the local kids really moved me. I've enjoyed every drink I have ever had here but my old standby is the soy vanilla latte.
google avatar

Grace H.

Yelp
Very eclectic feel. This is my first stop in here but I'm lovin the vibe so far. The barista man was friendly and helpful. This is the first green tea frappe I've had that actually tastes like green tea instead of green colored vanilla ice cream.
