I’ve been here three times now, and it just keeps getting better! I’m a big fan of the tacos and the power bowls. This last time, Dallas took care of us in the bar, and he was on top of everything. He was super friendly and attentive, and he had great food & drink recommendations. I will absolutely be coming back.

Google
I had one of the greatest restaurant experiences I've ever had in Baton Rouge here last night. Every single thing was a 10/10. The hostess was very charming and welcoming as she sat us. Our server Dustin was an absolute superstar. The bus boy was on point with the chips and salsa. The drinks were phenomenal. The food was jaw dropping spectacular. The church's for dessert were to die for. I will certainly be back and often.

If Taco Bell opened a restaurant, the fajitas don’t sizzle.. I wondered if the drive thru line was busy took so long to get our food . Starving!!!! Food was decent loved the chips and salsa . Exceptional service thank you Olivia . Shout to my mans running the chips and salsa 💯. Great drink 40 bucks for fajitas that don’t sizzle .. Crazy work

Dominique

Google
Great atmosphere. Our server Olivia was great and the guy serving chips and salsa was awesome too. Went on a Friday around 7pm. Wait to be seated was short. Food took a while to come out. Kitchen was backed up. Food was ok but not worth the price.

My friends and I went to Mestizos to celebrate my birthday. I had the gluten free frisco taco (asked to remove any dairy) and a margarita, and one of my friends had some sort of cauliflower bowl. I was very impressed with the quality of food and drinks. In fact, my brother and I ordered to go lunches from the restaurant four days later. I had the gluten free frisco taco again and my brother had steak fajitas. I only remember that my friend had the cauliflower meal because during our dinner she looked me straight in the eye and said "this is the first time a waiter did not lie to me about a meal, this food is great". Days later she told me that she can't stop thinking about the restaurant. My brother said that was one of the best fajitas he ever had. The restaurant also gave us desserts to celebrate my birthday. Gluten and dairy free for me, and regular for my friends. We all had a wonderful experience.

Google
The food was hot, happy hour offers half off of on tap beer for 3 dollars, and the service was great. If you like less Tex and more Mex this is a perfect place to eat

Google
I had the pleasure of eating at this awesome restaurant during my visit to Baton Rouge. I love the fact that the menu is very accommodating for various dietary needs such as Keto, Gluten free, Vegetarian, Vegan, etc. The food is seasoned to perfection and very delicious! The ambience of the restaurant is extremely warm and inviting. The staff is very attentive, friendly, and eager to please. I enjoyed my experience so much that I visited twice during my two day visit in Baton Rouge. I only wish they had this restaurant in my hometown Atlanta. I highly recommend this restaurant and will surely visit again when I return to Baton Rouge.

Welcome H. Youngs

Google
Mestizos is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Baton Rouge. We went for their buffet special and it was such an incredible experience! My absolute favorites were the mashed cauliflower, fried redfish with peanut mole sauce, and grilled flank steak. And for dessert, the tres leches. I will definitely be on the lookout for their next event!

Yelp
We chose Mestizo's for a planned date night and it did not disappoint. Our server, Charlie, was attentive, knowledgeable, and efficient. He was very quick to ensure we had warm chips, salsa, and margaritas. I indulged in the Pacifico and I don't know that I have ever had a better meal. My reheated leftovers today were equally as delicious. My husband chose the Cancun and it was equally as delicious. So grateful to have rediscovered this gem after not coming by for many years. Will now be a regular place for us.

Yelp
The melding of two spectacular culinary cultures produces an outstanding restaurant where every menu item is delicious Highly recommended Service impeccable.

Yelp
The service was great! I was promptly greeted and seated. They gave me some chips and salsa. I was not impressed by the salsa. I ordered the duck tacos (well done) on lettuce wrap. The tacos were great. Overall they do a good job with allergens. They have a well labeled menu and the servers are knowledgeable. I also ordered the strawberry mocktail which was a bit fizzy and citrusy. Wonderful. Could've had 10 of them. The only things of note: 1) The prices on the menu do not reflect the prices in the system. The duck tacos were $25 on the menu but $28/29 when the bill came. 2) they informed me that they don't have outdoor seating.

Yelp
OMGoodness. This place is phenomenal. Just as it was when it opened 25 years ago on Sherwood Forest Blvd by Coursey Blvd. The space is cozy yet spacious. The margaritas - crazy amount of specialty choices! So many are delicious. I love their quinoa bowl and their chicken quesadillas. There bean dip is also, the bomb. Try it! You'll thank me. Oh, fyi- they are closed pn Mondays!
google avatar

Brandon M.

Yelp
We had: Guacamole ceviche bean dip flat our steak. The special was fried red fish over purple rice. Everything was five stars, including the tequila. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
My boys and I swung by Mestizo off South Acadian in Baton Rouge's Mid-City area, craving a different spin on Mexican food. It was a rediscovery for me--I'd eaten there and ordered online a while back, and I pass by often for work, always noticing a healthy volume of cars in the lot. Mestizo nails the vibe of Mexican cuisine with a trendy Cajun twist, from the atmosphere to the fresh, local ingredients. Since my last visit, they've expanded with a larger dining area, and the well-stocked bar, now moved to the deep center, makes a bold first impression as you walk in. On this Sunday outing, 07/20/2025, the place had a nice little crowd--military folks, preppy types, yuppies, and some clearly well-heeled patrons, all adding to the mix. The host greeted us warmly and seated us promptly, with our waitress not far behind, keeping things moving smoothly. I urged the boys to try the salsa, a standout with fresh herbs and spices, far from the usual salty versions you find elsewhere. Our party of three enjoyed a mix of drinks and dove into the daily special: chicken chimichangas paired with a beef enchiladas combo, plus a chicken and brisket quesadilla. Every dish delivered that Cajun-Mex flavor --fresh, bold, and satisfying. The steady flow of patrons spoke to the quality, a nod to the kitchen's consistency. While the price point leans a bit higher, the unique Louisiana-Mexican experience in this Mid-City gem is absolutely worth it.

Yelp
Service was impeccable. As soon as we sat down they brought us chips and salsa. We ordered drinks and appetizers and they came out right away. Food was amazing! We will be back.
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
The place looks very cool with a neat statue out front. Gregory was our server, he was very engaging and did a great job. My husband and I split the trio fajitas and that steak was some of the best I've ever had in a Mexican restaurant. Some of those bites of that fajita were pure heaven.
google avatar

Andy R.

Yelp
Gave it a second chance 9 yrs later. Way overpriced for the food quality. $100 for 3 entrees and an appetizer, no drinks. Slow service (not busy). Worst quesadilla I ever had. Upcharged me $4 for sauce to cover the bland taste even though it took so long to get it that I had already eaten most of it.
google avatar

Henry B.

Yelp
Great food and service. Drinks were nice, chips and salsa good. Overall good experience.
google avatar

Tyka C.

Yelp
The food was impressive. I had the Birria Quesadilla and I could tell the ingredients were fresh. It had so much flavor! Best Birria I've ever had. Hands down! Met the manager and the owner Jim, specifically to tell them how much we enjoyed our experience. The restaurant was clean and had an awesome ambiance. Their service was top tier. Very attentive staff that didn't miss a beat. Thanks for a great last night in BR. See you next time!

Yelp
Nice cocktails! Tasty shareable plates! Love the place. Every time we're in town that's where will be

Yelp
Mestizo is more than just a restaurant; it's an experience. The lively ambiance is perfect for both casual gatherings and intimate private events. Their dedicated team, including accommodating staff and professional management, ensures a seamless dining experience. The heart of Mestizo lies in its exceptional cuisine. Authentic Mexican flavors shine through in every dish, and their tequila selection is a connoisseur's dream. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply craving a delicious meal, Mestizo is the place to be. Baton Rouge is BLESSED to have such an iconic restaurant in our midst!

Yelp
It was our first time & definitely won't be the last. Everything was delicious & our server, Italy, was amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
Mestizo is always a good choice. We went last Saturday for lunch and our server was great. He was attentive and friendly. I ordered the tuna tostada, it was delicious! My husband got the "Carne" and he was very pleased. Our friend ordered some combo dish and he said it was excellent.
google avatar

Ray M.

Yelp
Service was good and ambiance is nice but the food was wildly overpriced for the taste and quality. We ordered the Isla for $23 which comes with two chicken enchiladas, purple rice, and black beans. The black beans and rice were extremely bland and lacked any flavor. The purple rice was very dry and tasted like plain brown rice and the beans tasted like plain beans. As far as the enchiladas, they were extremely small and the only flavor was coming from the toppings which was some green salsa and pico. When I cut into the enchiladas I was wondering if they forgot to put meat in it but come to find out when I opened it up that rather than shredded or chopped chicken there was like one singular sliver of chicken inside. Not chopped, not shredded, but a small cut of a normal chicken tender. On top of the small portion and lack of meat the chicken itself was dry and flavorless. Unfortunately for $23 the food was just not satisfying whatsoever and we left the plate pretty much uneaten. You can see the picture of the size of chicken was in there.

Yelp
This place was really disappointing so the worst fajitas we have ever had. The beans were absolutely terrible. I couldn't eat them. The queso was white which normally I don't like, but it was pretty good. Definitely will never be back.
google avatar

Kerry J.

Yelp
It was a really nice experience, food and service was definitely on point, the restaurant was beautiful and clean and the food was really really good! I would definitely go back and refer this place to anybody looking for something tasty and different! And the drinks were amazing! Give them a try!
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by here after the wait for another restaurant was too long. The host immediately went to clean up a table for us and we were able to browse an ad hoc market that was going on in the restaurant! We got seated quickly and appetizers were ordered. Highly recommend asking for the crawfish queso which is heavily loaded. It's off menu but the server will happily take it! After that we waited for about an hour to get our entrees which was pretty disappointing. Food was fairly standard and oddly heavily featured spinach. Would still say it's a good place for a bite to eat but would factor in time for waiting!

Gage V.

Yelp
This place is close to our house so we decided to give it a try. The food was very tasteful and the restaurant had a nice vibe. We will be back!
google avatar

Joe T.

Yelp
Very good food - a bit expensive for a standard weekly Mexican fix, but very good. And some unusual choices - sweet potato bowl; broccoli and Brussels sprouts bowl; shrimp with spinach and feta enchiladas-not the kind of thing you find at your neighborhood TexMex place. The sweet potato mash bowl is surprisingly good - not just mashed sweet potatoes with a few things sprinkled in, but the potatoes are seasoned so they are more savory. Very filling, too. And the grilled redfish tacos with peanut mole are fantastic!
google avatar

Genevieve F.

Yelp
Oh my word! I love this place. My only complaint is that the menu is delectable and I want it ALL! I ordered the crawfish spinach Queso which is off-menu. It's wonderful. They made a mistake and gave me the shrimp & crab Queso which is equally wonderful. The crawfish Queso is more cheesy and the shrimp & crab Queso is more shrimp and crab. But I honestly don't know what I liked more. Anyway, this place has made it to my short list of places I want to eat at a lot.
google avatar

Clayton R.

Yelp
Great service. Great food. I've had the tacos, burritos, margaritas, guacamole, etc. and i have enjoyed everything every time I went.
google avatar

Rachel F.

Yelp
Food: A++ has always been fabulous Service: A+ very interactive and timely and if for whatever reason the kitchen is behind they let you know. The owner is always present and very inviting! Favs: crab queso, duck empanadas, the redfish dish, steak fajitas

Clet D.

Yelp
Best dinning experience in town if you want an upscale environment with food that taste like it came from the heart of Mexico! Great fish, seafood creations. This is not a Tex-Mex kinda place. Their Keto menu is bar none
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
I give it 5 stars because the service is outstanding, the drinks are exceptional, and the food is very well prepared. Last night I had a Keto drink that was just invented the night before. They hadn't even decided on a name yet. If I had invented this drink, I would have called it The Messiah- it came into my life and changed it for the better. Just amazing. Also good was the shrimp and crab nacho appetizer. I loved the inclusion of fresh jalapeños. Great experience- great staff and owner, too!
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
1. Sampler trio: Guacamole, bean dip, and queso. $16 2. Cancun: Shrimp and crab enchiladas, crawfish and spinach enchilada, guacamole, crawfish taco. $23 3. Carne: two flank skirt steak filets served over sautéed spinach, portobello mushrooms, potato spears, chimichurri sauce. $28 -The sampler trio was a little expensive and just okay. Nothing crazy wow. -My friend ordered the Cancun and devoured it, so must be delicious! -As for my Carne, everything was delicious. Price wise, it is expensive BUT that's understandable for the quality of the food and cozy atmosphere. I would recommend coming here to try different menu items! As my saying goes, you won't know until you try it.
google avatar

Childish J.

Yelp
Service was really nice, it's a nice quiet little place looks really nice inside to. The food was the only issue for me, I asked for a well done steak and was given a rare steak, didn't wanna be an asshole and say anything so I just left it be but the rest was fine just not to my taste really.
google avatar

Sandra W.

Yelp
Great tasting food, great service. Went for lunch it's was pretty fast. Enjoyed the pork rind nachos - would order it deconstructed next time so the rinds stay crunchy. Ambiance was nice.
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered over the phone for pickup. The woman informed me she was new, but she was sweet and helpful. I ordered the veggie tacos with lettuce wraps. You get a fried avocado taco, a mushroom taco and a zucchini and squash taco. Let me tell you! Ooo-weee!! I was not expecting so much filling and flavor! Each taco had its own distinct flavor. The mushrooms were amazing. They tasted as though they had been marinated for days. The grilled flavor on the zucchini and squash was epic. And the fried avocado was unique. I was very impressed by my meal and would definitely eat here again.

Yelp
We arrived on a Friday, at around 5pm. The hostess staff greeted us warmly, as soon as we stepped inside. The hostess seated us at a booth near the open kitchen area. I loved the level of cleanliness and noticed that a staff member was juicing TONS of citrus fruit for cocktails. That is A+ behavior!! Our server quickly arrived at the table. Her name was Maddie and Maddie was ICONIC. Maddie knew every single menu item and available variations of it. She proved masterful in describing and recommending dishes. Maddie's patience, initiative, and enthusiasm were remarkable. Mestizo's will now be our FIRST stop as soon as we arrive in Baton Rouge.

Megan D.

Yelp
Always delicious! Great service! So many great options and everything is made fresh and they use local seasonal ingredients. Love the Strawberry feta guacamole and the cauliflower bowl! All the Margaritas are so good!
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
Mediocre while trying to pass as high end fusion. Skip it We ordered takeout - I got the puebla and my wife got the camarones. We both agreed The salsa - watery. The shrimp - overcooked. Everything else - acceptable. The price for 2 plates of mediocre food - high.
google avatar

Jaime T.

Yelp
No happy hour "since COVID" ... a bit pricey compared to what I excepted. Decor wasn't overwhelming or impressive. Waitress was very distant as in not very interactive checking in on us. Ceviche was okay, expected a bit more seafood in it so I mostly picked around it. I did see a few interesting menu items I'd like to try so I do plan to visit again soon and hope for a better experience

Utpal D.

Yelp
Very good quality of food with a twist in traditional entrees. Everything seemed to be made from scratch. Service was a bit slow and drinks took a long time. However worth the wait. Drinks were incredible.
google avatar

Amanda W.

Yelp
I wanted to love it but I didn't. The queso was fairly bland was harder to scoop than normal. The chips were fresh! No stale ones. The free salsa is pretty good - not watery and not chunky either. Has a nice little kick. The tacos - you get 3 - steak was cooked properly, and the ingredients all worked together. They could definitely do with a little less onion. The main reason for the 2 stars is that it just doesn't seem worth the money. For a side of queso $3.50 For 3 steak tacos $18 Before tax & tip

Gary S.

Yelp
Mestizos is just an amazing dining adventure. Jim has the best salsa, frijoles, and Mexican sauces on the planet. If the Creole fusion in your Mexican food isn't your preference, his enchiladas, tacos, empanadas, tamales, and 'traditional' Mexican fare will impress the most mature palate's. Nothing else compares.
google avatar

Yelp
If you want options and great food then this is the place to go! This is such a unique restaurant that has vegan, keto, and gluten free which is amazing! Metizo has a great reputation for their good food and great flavors that are unique to local Baton Rougians! They are always creating and enhancing flavors that sparks your taste buds! The Tequila Mockingjay drink was very yummy especially with the jalapeños - so yummy! The toasted nacho chips and the spicy salsa can fill you up bc it's that good! That's was amazingly good! The gluten free grilled salmon was grilled to perfection! The salmon was perfect! Im all about gobbling it all up! The broccoli and bacon protein bowls was mouthwatering good and can fill you up quick!!! There was no room for dessert!!!! We love the establishment because they offer different specials and events and have an awesome happy bout! We have also seen Metizo in the community with catering and festivals! They never disappoint!!! You will regret not trying this establishment! I'm getting hungry again writing this review! Try them out!
google avatar

Kaitlyn L.

Yelp
This place is definitely just average. They have good options if you are looking to eat healthy, but I was not surprised by the food here. I have been trying to eat healthier so I decided on veggie tacos in a lettuce wrap. It came out looking great, but not all the tacos tasted that great. The avocado one had one slide of avocado? And the squash/zucchini taco tasted all kinds of weird. The portobello mushroom taco was the best one out of all 3 and it wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. I also had a bite of my friend's dish -- broccoli and Brussel sprout power bowl, and that mashed together put a weird taste in my mouth. However, their salsa and queso was tasty! Not raging to go back here because other Mexican style places are better.

Yelp
This is not your typical Mexican restaurant. Jim, the owner is a third generation restauranteur and it shows in every detail of his place. Hubby and I lived in Baton Rouge for years and I am sorry to say that we never ate at Mestizo's. We were in town for business, and a friend suggested we try it. I have cut out sugar from my diet, so I am always looking for great tasting healthy offerings. Mestizo's has a regular menu with the standards AND a Keto friendly. I had the Ideal Stir Fry topped with salmon and was so pleased. I KNOW for certain that we will be going back; working our way down the menu! I really want to try the Ahi Tuna Salad or the one of the Bowls! Hubby ordered the Salmon Tampico and he personally told Jim that it was the best salmon he has ever had in his life. The guacamole is freshly made and it was divine. Hubby really appreciated the fact that his black beans were served with a spoon so he could devour the entire bowl including the sauce! Although the restaurant was busy on a Friday evening, it still offered an intimacy that we appreciate. The updated decor is very appealing and so much thought has been put into the decor. This is a "don't miss" in Baton Rouge, especially if you are looking for healthy alternatives...seriously there is a "Keto-friendly" bar menu! Wow! Oh, I almost forgot, Hubby ordered the Plantains Foster Cream Filled Crepes...he LOVED it. Our server was Justin and he was truly a master at his job. Very non-intrusive, however we never ran out of anything!

Yelp
Thank you, thank you, thank you. A place I can enjoy a wonderful meal in peace. I bring my grandchildren quite ofteand the waitstaff go out of their way to accommodate the children and have NEVER had an issue. Good parenting I guess.
google avatar

Jeanne P.

Yelp
I've been a Mestizo fan for about 15 years now, indulging in their tasty burritos and tacos. Honestly, i never had a bad dish there. Over the past several years, the owner, Jim, has started adding dishes that will cater to different dietary options - gluten free, keto, low carb, Whole 30, etc. It's nice to be able to enjoy really good food no matter what plan or allergy you may have. The staff is always friendly, and you'll often see Jim bouncing around checking on people or bringing food out. He truly wants the customer to have an amazing experience and he wants you to come back. Their drinks are really good too - the margaritas are strong and affordable, and they have a fully stocked bar. Absolutely worth the trip there!
google avatar

Kathleen J.

Yelp
I went for a birthday lunch with a group from work. The ambiance is very nice and the waitstaff friendly and helpful. The chips and salsa were very good and they replenished them without being asked. Drink refills were the same. The service was excellent. I had the Seis, which is grilled chicken breast, topped with queso and served with rice and sautéed onions, squash and zucchini. The chicken was tender, the rice flavorful, and the vegetables perfect. There was just enough queso, but not so it was swimming in it. The food was fresh and everyone seemed pleased with their meal. I will definitely go again with my husband. Give them a try!
google avatar

Stephen F.

Yelp
Stopped in for a very nice lunch this afternoon. Interior is very fresh and clean, cool and sleek. Menu is a very inventive - Louisiana/Mexican fusion - this is NOT your typical Tex-Mex. Cocktails were surprisingly good, and the duck tacos were divine. A very nice discovery a few minutes from LSU.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
First visit to this location and it exceeded our expectations. Our reservation was ready when we arrived and seated immediately. The server was friendly and helpful with our decisions for dinner. The food can me out hot and was great. Reasonably priced as well. Thank you for a wonderful experience. We were celebrating a birthday and it would have been nice if they asked if we were celebrating something.
google avatar

Mary V.

Yelp
Fan-freaking-tastic. I cannot believe this place is in my hometown, and I had no clue. Food is incredible. Flavor, portion size, and staff friendliness and helpfulness were above expectations. Margaritas will definitely do a number on ya, so bring a driver, or prepare to walk home ;)
google avatar

Mark D.

Yelp
Innovative menu variety and everything is always fresh and good. Service is top notch too.

Yelp
My fiancé has a class on this side of town so he told me a place to pick to eat off Acadian. Wasn't feeling outback and tj ribs was closed. I had remembered about this place saying I've been wanting to try it so I told him we had to go here. The staff is super friendly- loved our server. I got the flank steak tacos. LOVED the fact it wasn't so heavy. It had onions and avocado which made it lighter for me. Also I had when a plate is crowded with rice and beans. My fiancé ALWAYS gets a burrito and he's always like "yeah it's ok" or "yeah it's good". This time he actually was excited and loved his food. We got churros after and OMG they were life changing. This is my new favorite Mexican food. The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is because it's super expensive for what you get. Nothing about it screams expensive to me.
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
Fantastic options for gluten free, dairy free, vegan. Love their bowls and the options to have vegetables with guacamole! We had a speedy lunch and enjoyed it!
