The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies In Seattle, Ranked - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Not to worry, citizens—Metropolitan Market made the cut. With a walnut-studded grocery store behemoth so iconic it’s literally called “The Cookie,” we can’t help but adore the thing. Whether ripped into fresh from the warmers or via takeout cup of diced hunks, there’s a decadent onslaught of drippy chocolate, a tacky center, roasty nuts, and craggy crunch bits across the top, available at all 10 Metropolitan Market locations across the Greater Seattle Area. Long live The Cookie." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

The Best Cookies in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Only one spot has “the cookie,” and it’s an upscale grocery store chain. The chocolate chip cookie at Metropolitan Market is heavy on the chocolate: It contains two types of Belgian-style chocolate chunks, and the result is a mess of melted chocolate all over your mouth and hands. It’s almost overwhelming, though the crunchiness of the toasted walnuts helps temper the chocolate intensity. No other cookie in town so perfectly recalls the childhood joy of digging into a messy cookie fresh out of the oven. We promise not to look while you’re licking your fingers clean." - Kurt Suchman

The food here is pretty good. I specifically came for the poke after hearing good things, and it definitely lived up to the hype—it was probably some of the best poke I've had in the area. I had mine with hot rice, which I requested from the hot food counter, and it paired perfectly. I didn't get any cookies this time around, but they do have awesome chocolate chip and peanut butter ones that are worth trying.

Google
Clean store with helpful employees. Amazing salad bar. Nice selection of cheeses and baked goods. Mouth watering hot soup and food selections. Really enjoy the Okonomiyaki - a savory fried cabbage pancake with various toppings - when available. Good variety of meat, poultry and fish - especially enjoy the chicken or cod parmesan. Limited but close parking.

Google
Best place to get an assortment of groceries. The cookies are always the best and Friday lobster roll specials.

Google
This store is amazing. Their take out meals are so delicious. They even have a Poke Bar !!! The Poke is so Ono. They have these amazing peanut butter & chocolate chip cookies baking right @ the entrance. It is a great grocery store that is vegan, gluen free, and organic. Clean & healthy products!! The only reason for 4 stars it's a bit pricy.

Google
I went in to buy heirloom tomatoes. They were delicious. 3 heirloom tomatoes cost $27.00 worth every penny !

Google
I love popping in here primarily at lunchtime. They offer a soup bar with a variety of choices for take out. They also have a good selection of salads and sandwiches to go -tuna is my top choice! And if you love olives like I do visit the olive bar! For check out there is both self serve or pleasant cashiers!

Google
Surprisingly a unique experience! Staff was friendly, shout-out to Corey Newberry for being an amazing interviewee, place was clean, gelato was tasty, I'd come back here for the sweets.

Google
This is a beautiful grocery store with good produce and ready-made foods. The meats and fish are top quality. You won't find the variety of a typical large grocery store, nor the gourmet selections of a super high end store, but the coffee stand with excellent cookies mix up for not finding a couple things you may want. I wish they had a seating area to enjoy coffee.

Yelp
Another great shopping experience at MM. The produce is amazing and the colors make you want to eat your veggies. The bakery is its usual drool worthiness. The fresh meats and seafood are perfectly displayed and a variety of offerings. The staff again is awesome in being super helpful and friendly. This is a great market and one we will continue to shop at.

Yelp
A limited review as I only have experience with the bakery and deli My wife loves to "thrift" in the Procter District. I went with once and we stopped here for a snack. Such great cookies!!! Well worth it If we lived closer to the Metro, it would be my store. But putting the bakery and deli in the entry is cruel and unusual for shoppers (wink).

Yelp
Cookie speaks for itself That's it but I need 85 characters P.S. tangerine juice speaks for itself

Yelp
This place is amazing. I don't know why anyone would give it less than five stars. Such a great high-quality variety of things especially the premade food. On this visit, I got the Italian beef sandwich. The bun was perfect. Not too hard not too crispy, the beef was really good mixed in with the peppers. They did a great job.

Yelp
My go to for lunch spot in the Tacoma area. Friends staff, good food and an awesome flower sections!

Maya L.

Yelp
Take a good guess on how much this bouquet costs.... 165!!!! I order this bouquet over the phone and they asked me a price point to which I said 150 because he wants it to be grand. This is a medium size bouquet. Wrapping paper was soaking wet And it's practically all weeds! the floral lady's weren't the friendliest. I am so disappointed. And this is an OUTRAGEOUS price for this bouquet.

Yelp
Met Market has never disappointed whether I'm shopping for speciality foods, produce, flowers or bakery items (The Cookie, and their croissant bread!!) Recently I ordered 180 mini fruit tarts for our dear friend's funeral reception because he loved fruit tarts from MM. I received exceptional service from MJ, the bakery manager and her staff who packaged each tart individually in a lovely plastic container so I could give to guests thanking them for attending. MM's delicious tarts added the special touch to our friend's funeral reception. Last but not least, MM's ambiance is top notch - truly one of the nicest speciality markets around! Thanks MJ and team!!

Yelp
WTF is wrong with this store? All of the staff here are very helpful and friendly. Most of all, there are actually enough staff members on the floor to assist you. Why can't Metro Market be like all of the other stores with no service and most of the staff members are grouchy?
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great place to grab a quick lunch. Their prepared foods are great quality and my fave lunch sandwiches are the Ruben and the Prime Rib sandwiches. They're big enough to make two meals out of one sandwich. If they have the French mushroom bisque available in the soup section, grab one as well. The produce are top notch and everyone is helpful without being overbearing.

Yelp
Okay, my daughter and I have been searching for YEARS, for the best carrot cake... Today we found it!! Absolute perfection!!! We got it for her 46th birthday and it was so amazing we actually had a "backwards" birthday dinner and ate the cake first!! No need to search any longer, this cake surpasses any we've ever had! Carrot Cake perfection!

Yelp
Metropolitan Market is a specialty grocery store with so much to offer. I love stopping by for a sweet treat - "The Cookie" with a scoop of gelato is to die for. I recently tried out their cheesecake from the bakery and it was definitely the best cheesecake I've had thus far. The inside of the store is always clean and organized. Easy to navigate and there is a ton of local goods here.

Yelp
I love Metro. There used to be a Federal Way location and my husband and I would go there almost every night, we miss it a lot. This location does not disappoint. Incredible staff, amazing fresh options. Their floral department is my absolute favorite of any grocery store in the area. The flowers are incomparable to any other grocery floral department I've been to. My daughter lives their baguettes and THE cookie. My husband and I both love their deli and cheese selection as well as the bakery. A big thank you to Nancy at the Tacoma location for going the extra mile to support the local youth soccer community with Metropolitan Market's help the club can continue to provide uniforms and new equipment for The Norpoint Soccer Club teams, we are so grateful for your support. It's obvious how much being a part of their local community matters to metropolitan market.

Yelp
We are in Tacoma on vacation and enjoyed looking at the beautiful flowers upon entering the market. Once inside we got some cookie bites-delicious and peanut butter gelato-also yummy. For a quick dinner we made a fresh salad from the salad bar and enjoyed a broccoli cheddar soup from the soup bar. Will be back for another dinner! Had a perfectly ripe local pear for breakfast. Staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Met Market knows how to run a store, as you can probably tell by the many positive reviews. I very much enjoy shopping here, and am still disappointed they closed the Federal Way store, where I also used to shop. The Federal Way location was in a kind of hidden away neighborhood which was nice for the locals, but I'm sure missed out on more customers, not being closer to the downtown corridor. They could have moved to a better spot, instead of just closing altogether. So that is my only complaint with this organization.

Yelp
Got the Poke Bowl! Size was small for the price. Rice was also very hard. They do offer hot rice but when I went to go asked they said I had to wait (This was in the afternoon). Fish was good, but the spicy salmon had little to no flavor at all. If you're craving poke then I would suggest going to an actual Poke Spot for some Poke bowls. But if you want Poke from here I suggest just getting the fish and making rice at home for yourself. Was a nice vibe in the store and very clean. They also had reasonably priced sushi rolls as well.

Yelp
Five stars for my favorite grocery store in the area by a long shot. Great local products, great quality and the service is great. I love supporting Metro Market and trying new things. Reasonable prices and lots of options. The produce is always super fresh as well. Parking can be rough but there is street parking in addition to the lot.

Michael F.

Yelp
Apparently SCROOGE manages this store now! After over twenty years of our family tradition to visit this store during Christmas break to listen to piano music while shopping and picking up pastries to bring to friends and enjoy at home apparently someone thought that cutting the live piano music was a great idea. Guess I'll spend my typical $600-$700 closer to home. No need to drive all the way there just to shop at a regular grocery store.

Yelp
Decided to walk along the Point Ruston waterfront on a beautiful sunny Sunday. Stopped her about bought lunch items for our picnic lunch. Stepped to the deli, sooooo many sandwiches to choose from! Ordered the grilled cheese. The cheese was the famous WA State cheese w/ tomato between sour dough bread. I asked that they cook it there, they put it in a turbo oven. I also got the tarragon cucumber salad. The salad was wonderful. The sandwich was delicious. My only complaint is that it needs a little more time in the oven to thoroughly melt the cheese and crisply toast the bread! I topped it off with a giant just baked peanut butter cookie! Love this market! So many delectable items to eat...so hard to decide! Customer service at the deli counter was robotic and a bit unfriendly. Customer service at the cookie counter was friendly and personable!

Elaine D.

Yelp
The best produce! The people are amazing and helpful. I wish there was one closer to me, but I will drive the 26 miles to go to them.

Daniel I.

Yelp
Excellent high quality groceries throughout the store, interesting healthy products for just about anything you want or need. The deli area does need more workers, it is unacceptable that customers have to wait 10-15 minutes to get a slice of pizza or a sandwich, considering it does take about 10 seconds to grab the pizza and sandwich. Otherwise, it's a great store, clean, comfortable, etc.

Yelp
We bought a red velvet birthday cake from here and it was delicious! The bakery section has really beautiful cakes and pies and their flavors are better than other markets. We got a smaller mid size type cake for around $35 and it was more than enough for 5 or so people and tasted amazing! The cream cheese frosting was smooth and creamy while the cake was perfectly moist and spongey. I will definitely be buying more cakes from here in the future, I already cant wait to try more!

Yelp
This is mainly for the Thanksgiving turkey dinner for two. Total came up to about $100, we got half a bone in turkey breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, stuffing and cranberry relish. Everything was really really good, great portions, seasoned well, the bone in turkey breast had a slight rancid smell(?) but all in all good. The herbed green bean were our favorite part. All I had to do was pop everything in the oven and reheat it with the instructions provided. Ordering online and picking up was a breeze, easier than I thought and we did a little shopping for pie and wine while we were there. Overall, I am a happy shopper and I won't go back. No more cooking elaborate meals, I can sit and enjoy the holidays too.

Yelp
If you've never been in a Met Market before, it's a higher end ($$$$) grocery store that really knows how to create awesome heat & eat foods. Definitely fantastic for a quick lunch if you're looking to have a little picnic or if you work in the area. The pre-made section is really the main reasons I personally come here, though I've been very pleased with the produce section every time I've looked. They also serve as a regular grocery store. They definitely do have a very nice selection of premium products and you're likely to find those hard-to-find or new-to-you items that are more expensive, but you know you want to!

Yelp
What a very beautiful placed . Fresh meat fresh cookies they are warm and chewy and big enough to share for two people.

Yelp
I've been a frequent customer since Proctor store opened - 3 decades ago. In the past year there is a real trend down in quality of the salad bar and hot bar offerings, as well as staff to attend to customers. Meats in hot bar are often nearly all gristle - notably the asado beef, chicken dishes, and brisket - poorly cut and overcooked. Salad bar has become unacceptable. Last week, for instrance - the bin of lettuce had obviously frozen and been put out anyway. Ingredients are often in dismal condition, and late in the day, they are sometimes not refilled even before dinner hour. For years all the fresh food at this Met was reliable.... Now it looks like they throw the stuff in that salad and hot bar daily without inspecting what they are putting out for sale. The service staff is greatly overworked during peak hours, seemingly no longer enough employees to take care of things. This is not the metropolitan market of even five years ago. The price premium at Metropolitan markets was always lived up to with excellent quality.... that is no longer the case, and I'm very sad about it. Worst of all, my private comments to the store management, through their website, registering these concerns has gone completely unanswered.. does not speak well for the store. Maybe keeping long-term customers is not really a priority for them? Would never have happened under the previous management....

Yelp
This place reminds me of Gelson's, Pavilions, and Bristol Farms in Los Angeles, along with Draeger's in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's a supermarket with finer foods and a foodie aesthetic that also comes along with a price to match. Don't go here if you're on a budget, but definitely come if you're looking for things like La Fermiere yogurt or a Pierre Robert, one of my favorite triple cream bries. What would put them over the top is if they had a Brillat Savarin (the butter of triple creams) but this place is still tippy top. Came on a Saturday and it was a fun vibe with the coffee counter being inundated by wine moms who need their fix. Would love to see some table space like you see in some Whole Foods, but maybe they do that in the summer. Note to self: come back in the summer because this place is would be awesome if they do.

Yelp
Hi, I want to say Thank you to Diane In the hot food area. Was very helpful in making sure I had a fresh batch of mashed potatoes and took good care of me. Thank you to the cook getting a new batch out. Also thank you Tina at the ck. Out area for making us laugh. It was 3 of us in line and we was waiting for someone to come back in. Tina cashed out the order and start ringing me up to get the line going. I said it was OK. I'll wait. The nice gentlemen came back in with his wallet and the nice lady behind me we all just had a good old laugh. It was just a good feeling seeing strangers laughing and joking in line. Made my day. Have a bless week to all.

Yelp
I bought birthday cake back April 13th and was terrible. I got my money back and manager being nice about it.

Domo M.

Yelp
Bought some baked goods from them and there was human hair baked within the cookie The manager refused to issue a refund

Yelp
Pizza pizza! Sorry my photos are a little dark. Metro has okay pizza, but the price is amazing on Sundays. Half of sheet of piece that easily feeds three/four people costs $19.99!!! Can't beat that price!!! The pizza is Sicilian style...thick crust...so it's a little bread for my taste, but for that price, I'll will take it!

Yelp
We were in Tacoma earlier this month. We had been to this location on a previous visit many years ago. Since then I've been to many grocery stores that truly serve the vegan/gluten free/more crowd. I found this location to not be in that category. Their section in the deli area that is labeled Vegan & Gluten free consisted of items that were either one or the other but not both. I had been around the entire store at that point and had grabbed only a couple veggies that I needed for that night's dinner. Would have loved to gotten a smoothie but that area closed before we arrived. Parking lot is small and busy. Will not return.

Yelp
Always find something good at metropolitan market. It's a bit pricey but love explore new things there and try :)

Leslene C.

Yelp
Didn't know what this market was, we were going Safeway across the street (more familiar name). This market amazed us with their selections and diversity of products. Would definitely shop here again when in PNW. Loved the variety, prices a wee bit high but for the selections it's worth it.
google avatar

Sati G.

Yelp
I love this market! There's a little bit of everything you would need or want. The bakery items are awesome! The giant chocolate chip cookies are even more delicious when you follow the instructions and warm them up, but taste just as good right off the shelf! The chocolate ganache cake is to die for. The pastries...yummy!
google avatar

Diana R.

Yelp
Think of Whole Foods but 100x better! Metropolitan Market has the highest quality food I've ever seen. Yes the prices are higher than other grocery stores however everything is fully stocked and organized. They have a great selection of wine and cheese. It's a great spot to have lunch they provide a seating area as well ! Wish we had one in Reno, Nevada !

Yelp
Been here 2 days in a row. First day was to grab a few of their famous COOKIE. First time having it fresh and boy was it a cookie monster treat. Half of my family said it was a little too much chocolate and the other half just enjoyed every morsel of it. Today we decided to grab lunch and my family of 6 found something to their liking. Hubby and son enjoyed the soups. The crispy chicken sandwich was delicious and we loved how they were able to retain the crispiness. The best part of today's visit was having Roxanne check us out. She made our day and we said we would definitely come back because of her. Being from Hawaii we appreciated the "aloha" spirit she shared with us.

Yelp
A good tasting cookie is hard to find. So is poke in this area. With that being said, I'm just here for the chocolate chip cookie and poke *shrug*.
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely on the pricy side, but the selection here is awesome!! I looove love love their cookie ("The Cookie") - ask for it heated!! Their bakery has so many different desserts, and they all look so pretty and yummy also, their gelato is really good too!!! They have a gelato bar connected to their cafe/bakery. Not sure if it's a seasonal thing, but they have a whole section of assorted cookie cutters!!!! All kinds of sizes and shapes, including many Christmas/holiday-themed ones. This wall is right by the beer/drinks section. All their ready-to-eat meals, hot food, and pizza look so good, but I haven't gotten around to trying them yet. This store is basically like a smaller, more "local" feeling Whole Foods, and the store set-up is very similar, especially the bakery and hot food sections. They have a good selection of coffee beans as well, including ones from local small batch roasters and coffee shops, like Bluebeard. I saw some beans that were only 1-2 weeks old, which is pretty good for a grocery store. They also sell their own freshly roasted beans at $12.99 a pound - not sure if they're roasted same-day, but I'm assuming they are. There's an espresso blend, organic blends, and even decaf options for these freshly roasted beans. There's also a Mahlkonig grinder right around the corner with 13 different grind levels, all the way from Turkish (super fine) to percolator (extra coarse). I ground up some of the freshly roasted beans (organic French - dark roast with low acidity) on the extra coarse level for my cold brew. Now I can get freshly roasted grinds at a good price for my cold brew without having to buy a grinder The workers here are also generally very friendly and willing to help you out. Parking lot is kind of on the smaller side for a grocery store, but I haven't had trouble finding parking yet.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this grocery store and wish we had one in CA like it! Beautiful store and everything you need. The produce and meats look fresh and beautifully arranged. The pre packed meals were look awesome. The cookies and pastries are to die for!!! Would definitely come here again when I'm visiting.

Yelp
Simon was extremely belittling and racist towards me. My partner and I had just finished paying for our water jug refills when he came over, picked up the jugs and accused us of stealing water which was around $.50 a gallon. I could not have been more humiliated. When he saw our receipt that proved that we paid for the water, he didn't even apologize. Instead, he proceeded to shrugged his shoulders, scowl at me and walk away. As he walked away, I heard him mumble a slur under his breath. I was in disbelief. I've been shopping here for over 10 years, though, I will not be returning because of this experience.

Yelp
Great specialty grocer! I really like the soup and salad bar! Don't forget the cookie!

Angie M.

Yelp
This is my favorite market in North Tacoma, The deli food is amazing, the soup bar is a must, their coffee is great, Bakery is spectacular, you will find a salad bar, olive bar, sushi and many more. You have so many options. They have a small outdoor eating area which I enjoy and it's always clean. I give them 5 stars.

Yelp
I've been coming here with family since I was a kid.... for the tiramisu in particular. The other night we purchased 2 desserts which were great! Their tiramisu is the best, love it, no complaints there. This time around the tiramisu had some swirly cream frosting on top! I forgot to capture how cute it was. There was a special edition s'mores cake which was humongous, had a thick cream and frosting, with glazed graham crackers topped on the cake. The desserts are truly delicious and have artistic designs. I highly recommend their Rose Champagne cake too. Quality is high as far as desserts go! I would rather order here than anywhere else! When we got to the bakery the employee was busy vacuuming. We stood there trying to get her attention, even tried waving and saying hello but she didn't seem to notice or care. When she finally decided to help us she didn't even bother to wash or sanitize her hands or use gloves, that's unsanitary... Mind you, this was about 8:30pm on a weekday and the hours of operation are until 11pm. She was more occupied with cleaning but shirking being cleanly and seemed bothered by us.

Kellie M.

Yelp
Annoyed. I attempted to use a coupon through the self check out. The employee took the coupon and ADDED the amount on to my transaction. When I pointed it out to her and that it was also going to add tax to the item she didn't believe me. I had to go through the regular line and have someone else ring me up to prove that she was incorrect. Extremely embarrassing for a customer. I'm so done with this store. Customer service is just so lacking these days. She then scolded me for not giving a transaction receipt to the other checker. Apparently she also doesn't know how to void a transaction. This is not the Metropolitan Market it once was. Sad. Very sad.

Yelp
Love this place. They have a great hot food counter, salad bar, soup bar and olive bar. There's a bakery that makes the best cookies and a floral dept with beautiful flowers and a great selection. It is pricey but only high quality items.

Melissa M.

Yelp
What happened to MM? Went in today and the produce section wasn't up to par. They were out of a lot. Same with the deli area. Also noticed no more makeup or magazines. Something seemed off on this visit. Cashiers were not very engaging or enthusiastic. Not what I expect for a trip to MM.

Yelp
I love Metropolitan Market! I think all their stores are great, but the one in Tacoma is probably my favorite. This one has a more welcoming vibe compared to all the other Met Markets I usually go to in Seattle. The Tacoma location is also much cleaner and organized. I only get to visit this store when I come down to see my parents in Browns Point, Tacoma. It's actually pretty far from them, but to me it's worth the drive. My favorite thing to buy from the Met Market is THE COOKIE. If you haven't tried one yet, you're missing out!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place, even though certain things are on the pricier side Metropolitan Market just tickles my fancy. This is not just your average grocery store they offer everything from your standard groceries to delicacies not found everywhere. The cheese selection here is amazing, trust me if you're a true cheese lover you will love their selection though pricey it is worth every penny. Another favorite here has to be their deli and bakery section. I've come here countless times with my mom and kids for a quick lunch. From sandwiches and paninis, to artisan pizza slices, fries with amazing sauces, pastas, a soup and salad bar a poke bar and much much more there is really something for everybody. Their bakery here is just as amazing, I've tried countless things over the years and yes you are paying more for quality but it's worth it. From yummy pastries, to cakes, cookies and gelato the bakery also offers something for everybody. If you're coming here to do your grocery shopping or just coming to grab a quick bite Metropolitan Market really caters to all. Here quality is first.

Yelp
The fresh chocolate chip cookies are the best I've ever had! They are warm and chewy and big enough to share.
