"Mexikosher is closing tonight, right at sundown. The restaurant had a mostly happy eight-year run along the kosher corridor of Pico and Robertson. Mexikosher was an early hit for Top Chef player Katsuji Tanabe, drawing fans for its inventive kosher takes on Mexican food. Though the restaurant wasn't much to look at, it became a community hub for those seeking quality, culturally-aligned meals. Tanabe expanded his kosher dining to New York City while working on projects there and in Chicago. Now, he will focus on the east coast and operate his new non-kosher Whittier steakhouse, The Nixon. The final dishes from Mexikosher will be served tonight at sundown, with a menu crafted for the Jewish holidays." - Farley Elliott

For all the hype I have heard about this place in the kosher community, I must admit I was disappointed. Simply put, the food was a letdown. The beef chimichangas sounded good but the filling tasted like an indistinct mush of beans and meat. It comes with guacamole and pico de Gallo. The guacamole is similarly one dimensional, being not seasoned enough and kind of runny. The pico de Gallo was fine. I got the carnitas burrito, which is meant to be beef and duck confit. Seeing that on the menu I expected a luxurious, juicy, fatty filling. Instead it was dry and again very under seasoned. I had expected whatever meat I got would create layers of flavor with the rice and beans and the fixings, especially for a place run by a Top Chef winner. But no, all the flavors got lost and nothing, especially not the duck confit, shone through. The portion size was quite nice though. Assuming you are willing to eat the food bland as it is you won't leave hungry. As for the sauces - they were similarly one dimensional. The mango habanero sauce just tasted like "spicy!" in a yellowish suspension. The chipotle sauce was just "smoky BBQ!" Similar with some of the others. The only decent one was the salsa Verde. I will say though: the churros for dessert were quite delicious. Those I would eat again. Also the people working there are very nice too. I think the billing this place has being run by a Top Chef actually hurts it. My expectations of flavor, complexity and seasoning were way higher. If this was just a random kosher Mexican place I would probably be more forgiving for these errors.

Fresh, kosher Mexican food. Generous portions, fairly priced, served with a smile.

Got the burger and three tacos. The portion size here is generous. Keep that mind mind. I enjoyed the burger that came with two parties and fries. There's a variety of sauces and salsas you can try. The tacos were tasty made with homemade tortillas. They also seem healthy. The staff is friendly and generous with the garnishes. Great value though I'd say not the most flavorful.

So delicious! The ingredients always taste freshly made. They have interesting choices to put on burritos and taco bowls, such as cactus salad, so it's not your typical burrito bar. Since the place is kosher, there's no dairy which might turn some people off. But whether or not you keep kosher, you should give this place a try!

Food is very good, love the sauces! They recently raised their prices which makes it not really worth it anymore. Older guy at cash register is miserable, should not be in a customer service role. Guys serving the food are awesome though. Too bad for the older guy, won't be back because of him, don't feel like spending $17 for a rice bowl to be treated that way!

I really like this place. The food is great, the meat is juicy and soft, and the portions are very big. The price is excellent and the service is also good. I will definitely go back again to have the beef and lamb. Over all an excellent place to have a plus size delicious Kosher food at an excellent price :-)

Been here once They tried to introduce me to Mexican food but unfortunately did not even come near to Mexican food The quality was very good due to it being kosher but the service and taste and ambience wasn't the greatest. I had a beef taco. They used the wrong meat and it was very chewy so didn't really like it.

Great food, great portions, decent price for Kosher. This ain't no Tex-Mex but real authentic Mexican - and fun weekly specials from one of the best burgers you'll ever have on Mondays to the rare chicken and waffles.
