It was a pleasant experience enjoying the delicious cuisine of Bangladesh. The menu offers a good variety of flavorful dishes, and the service was also excellent. One drawback, however, is that rice is not included with curry orders and must be purchased separately — something I haven't encountered elsewhere and found a bit unusual. Aside from that, I would definitely recommend this place.

Truely a hidden gem, a bit isolated from the other BD restaurants. They offer mostly Chittagong type cuisine like mezban, chana daal and kala vuna. They also serve different types of bangladeshi dishes like chui jhal, hilsha egg etc. Their portions are generous and also their jorda is a must try. The shop is a bit small and less crowded, but we will come here again

Nice place, kind of cold inside. Servicer spoke very low but attentive, very nice. Hilsha dim $29.99 pricey, did not taste like home, very bland, it seemed boiled. Jura beef was very delicious. Khuda rice first time tried it, they made it with black seed, it was not all that. Vhorthas were very delicious. Hilsha tail vhortha portion size was very low. Rice and daal was charged extra. Everything else tasted very delicious. If you are tipping, the tip does not go to the server. I tipped with card, should had handed the waiter the tip instead.

I recently visited a new Bengali restaurant that caught my attention with its promise of authentic and unique regional dishes. The menu stood out from the usual offerings, showcasing traditional items like the Khude Vaat and Barta Platter and the Mejban Platter, which are rarely found elsewhere. While the food presentation was thoughtfully done and the staff were warm and friendly, the overall taste didn’t quite live up to expectations. The flavors lacked the depth and richness I was hoping for, especially considering the cultural vibrancy of Bengali cuisine. It's a place with potential, especially for those curious to try something different. However, the kitchen might need to fine-tune the recipes to truly bring out the soul of these traditional dishes.

The food is awful. I got the bhorta platter, it was served cold and dry. I think it was a few days old. The rice was terrible, idk how that is possible. The roast and chicken pulaow was nasty. SO MUCH SALT. I found hair in my food. You think you are getting tasty food because of the price but you are just being scammed. I have no issue paying more for good food and service. Don’t believe any of the other 4-5 star reviews.

Google
It’s a good Bengali restaurant in this neighborhood. I went there to have some authentic Chittagonian dish. Wasn’t totally disappointed with the flavors. Their service is very good and the server was friendly and welcoming. For the food, the Nola daal was decent but I felt like the kala bhuna was too dry. Given the price of their platter, I would suggest to reduce the price a little bit because the serving size doesn’t justify the price. Overall you can try out the restaurant for a good food.

The food was amazing—I haven't had food this delicious in ages! The chicken lollipop was crispy and packed with flavor, and the vorta platter was an explosion of flavors in every bite. The Mezban beef was super tender, and the spices in the Nola Dal Gost were just right. Everything tasted so fresh and well-prepared. Can't wait to go back!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I am a Chatgayya! We had an amazing experience at Mezban House on Corona Avenue! The Chatgyya Mezbani food was absolutely delicious—rich flavors, tender meat, and perfectly spiced dishes that reminded us of home. The service was excellent, and Rubel took great care of us with his friendly and attentive service. The atmosphere was cozy and authentic. If you love real Mezbani taste, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommend to anyone looking for great food and a true taste of Chattogram! Will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
I've been frequenting Mezban House since soon after they opened, usually opting for takeout (and missing out on the beautiful clay pottery serveware!). No matter how early I call in or how late I am for pickup, I typically have a 5-10 minute wait until my food is ready, no biggie but I do think there are opportunities for operations wonks here. First, I really enjoy the food here and find the offerings unusual compared to other Bengali spots around Queens, and the vhorta/bhorta/vorta platter really rocks--every flavor is intense and complex and deep. The mustard oil, the fermented fish flavors, the nigella seed: all intense and delicious to me! We've gotten most of the beef dishes and several of the seafoods, and the beef is what shines here. This is probably not a place to bring a timid or picky eater, nor do I think it's ideal for vegetarians, but if you want to go on a wild flavor journey that isn't necessarily easy, Mezban House can certainly provide that.

Yelp
Cuisine: 6 Service: 6 Decor: 6 Value: 7 Overall: 6 I will start off by saying that we had a large group of 15 and therefore the food and service may have been off compared to the usual. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and will likely return at some point to try more to really determine my ratings. What I did really enjoy was the Jhura Beef, which was an intensely flavorful, albeit slightly oily, shredded beef that went so well with rice. The Chai Jhal Beef was not as tasty, but still quite decent with tender pieces of beef belly pieces I believe. The mustardy sauce for the Sorisha Hilsa was quite yummy to dip with the naan (dry and too crispy, no chew). Unfortunately, the fish itself was bland, somewhat dry, and contained ridiculous amount of tiny bones. Mind you that I grew up in Shanghai, China, eating river fishes with a lot of bones was a right of passage. However, the meat tends to be very tender and flaky, warranting the time spent. This was not enjoyable at all. The Bhortha Platter came with eight different muxture of mashed vegetables. Some were interesting and some were just okay. Rest of the meal and desserts were quite average too. Nothing was terrible, maybe except the Mango Lassi. Anyway, I would definitely come back for the Jhura Beef. Along the way, I will try a few other new dishes. Hopefully, they make some improvements between now and then.

Yelp
You can see Andie's review for other details I'm not going through here. The food overall in short was solid though it felt like the food wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be outside of one of the appetizers which had a good amount of chili. The sorisha ilish was the best dish we had even with the multitude of bones while the beef dishes were good enough and both of the appetizers were good to decent. I got a Borhani to drink for $4.99 which is a mix of sour curd/dol, green chili, mustard seeds, black salt, coriander and mint. The mustard flavor was nice and it was more sour than sweet as expected and I liked it. As noted by her, we shared the following dishes among 4 people (which a few people such as me ate with their hands while others used forks/knives/spoons.) The Chicken Lollipop which is $8 for 4 pieces was excellent. Nicely spiced/well seasoned chicken and the sauce that they gave had some sweetness and a good little kick of heat. The dish came with a few chilis. The Mini Naga Singara which is $6.49 for 4 pieces was a bit different with a mix of potato and some pieces of chili (presumably jwala) which again gave a bit of a kick. It was samosa like but not as crispy on the outside and came with some chopped cucumbers as well as two sauces; a a more oily version of the spicy sauce from the previous dish and an orange sauce which I couldn't exactly identify the flavor. For mains, the best was the Sorisha or Shorshe Ilish for $15.99 per piece of fish. Said ilish or hilsa refers to the main fish used; a type of herring which is prized in Bangladesh. As we got three, the three were placed on the same platter which we didn't know to begin with but that was fine. There were tiny bones which was fine to deal with as it was accompanied by a delicious sauce. It had a bit of a mustard flavor but also reminded me for some reason of Macher Dim from Masalawala & Sons as I'm pretty sure there was also some roe in there. The sauce in short was delicious and went quite well with the rice. My favorite of the two meat dishes by a lot was the Khulnar Chui Jhal Beef which is $19.99. Apparently, chui jhal refers to a unique spice made from the roots of a pepper which added a unique flavor which I've never had before. It had an aroma to it and had a slight pungency. The beef in this dish was better as it was much more tender with only a few pieces being a bit chewy with the roasted garlic in there being delicious. The beef was off the bone in this dish compared to the one below and was just better tasting. The Chattgaiyya Mezbani Beef for $18.99 was alright. The sauce was a tad oily and the beef was unfortunately a bit too chewy for my liking. This dish is apparently supposed to be spicy but ours wasn't so I'm curious if they toned down the flavor a bit. It had good onion flavor and was nicely aromatic but otherwise, I'd recommend other dishes. Rating this place is a little bit difficult. There were some issues as noted and one of the beef dishes was just OK while the fish was excellent. Charging that much for water ($2) and rice ($3.99 each time per refill) is also just not right and rice is pretty necessary if you want to eat as much of the delicious sauces as possible. 1 excellent dish. 3 good dishes. 1 alright dish. 3.5 so 4 but barely.

Yelp
The food could have easily been 5 Stars, if not for some questionable business practices. More about that later. .. Let's start with the Good... The Good: The Food! The Food! The Food! Each dish that we had was delicious. Their blend of spices were amazing; each dish better than the next. Here are the dishes we tried: MENU (shared by 4ppl): - Mini Naga Singara ($6.49/4pcs): this was the only dish that I thought was "ordinary"; not necessarily bad; just ok. - Chicken Lollipop ($8/4pcs): Fantastic! The chicken was prepared well, and the accompanying sauce was wonderful; slightly sweet with a sneaky spicy kick! - Mezbani Beef ($18.99/large): tender pieces of beef (*with bones), in a magnificent spice-blended sauce. - Chui Jhal Beef ($19.99/large): tender pieces of beef (no bones), in a magnificent spice-blended sauce. I actually had a problem deciphering this sauce and the sauce in the Mezbani Beef dish. Although, there was a delicious whole garlic in this dish. Make sure you try this garlic...it was delish! - Sorisha Ilish ($15.99/1pc of fish): warning: this dish has lots of tiny bones...but it is soooo worth getting! This may have been my fave dish tonight! The fish itself was good but the sauce was incredible! If you don't want to deal with the tiny bones, then pick another fish dish; there are a few to pick from on their menu. - Basmati Rice ($3.99/large bowl): Note that rice does NOT come with any of the entrees. You must order separately. Also note that when the waiter tells you to let them know if you want more rice...you will be charged for it! Our waiter made it seem like it was free refills, but yup, the extra charge showed up on our bill. - Water ($2/12 oz bottle): No tap water. You must buy bottled water from them. They gifted us 6 bottles of complimented water tonight (shared by 11 ppl). Thank you! Ok, sadly, here is "the Bad': My main gripe is the feel of bait and switch with their menu, and the feeling of being nickeled and dimed. This restaurant has only been open for 4 months, and their menu (which is still currently posted on their website), is already outdated. Some menu items have already been increased by 30% - 50%. How does a restaurant open for such a short time, have such a discrepancy in prices? I can understand increasing prices slightly but 30%-50% increases after opening just 4 months ago, scream bait n switch! They should at least update the menu on their own website! (See my photos for current menu, as of 10/7/2024). Integrity and honesty in business (& in life) is important. Reputation is everything! Once trust is broken, it's hard to get back. Service & Hospitality: Despite the questionable menu, our server was very nice. Service was very good, and he even gave us complimentary bottles of water (after we complained about being nickeled and dimed). As I mentioned, this could easily have been a 5 Star review, if not for the appearances of possible shadiness. I hope management updates their website menu for transparency.. I'd like to think this was an honest mistake, and not because The New Yorker gave them a great review....just sayin'!

Yelp
I got their jhura beef, chingri (shrimp) vorta and dal vorta, along with the khude rice (broken rice) and chaler (rice flour) roti. The waiter was super-helpful in showing me how the food is normally mixed and eaten, and when you take a bit of the rice (or some of the chaler roti) together with either the beef or one of the vortas and even add a bit of the cucumbers and onions they give you with the meal, the taste is perfect. The mustard oil in the vortas might be an acquired taste for some, but having eaten Bengali food a bunch of times before, I was used it. Every single thing I tried tasted completely home-made and I imagine authentic (I would not personally know with 100% certainly, but like I said, I love and have lots of experience with food from all parts of India/Pakistan/Bangladesh, including having spent a month going all over India earlier this year, so I have at least some idea of when I'm getting something sweetened and greased up and simultaneously dialed down (on spices) for the American palate). Of the various Bengali places in the City (and even in Jersey City, N.J.) I've tried, this one is my favorite, so I'm definitely coming back with a larger group when I get the chance so we can try more stuff. Highly recommend it for those with more adventurous palates.

Yelp
very good and like home made kind of food. When I try i feel like I'm having food in my dining table with my mom
