The 24 Best Restaurants in Tulum, Mexico | Eater

"The green ceiling of this patio restaurant — set in the Mi Amor hotel — blends in with the green and blue of the Pacific, making it an ideal setting for brunch at the tranquil, northernmost end of Tulum’s hotel zone. Start with a half dozen oysters with hibiscus mignonette, raw hamachi surrounding a pool of sharp mandarin orange and chile morita leche de tigre, and a bright Acapulco colada inspired by the art deco era like the rest of the hotel. A selection of tostadas made with grilled octopus al pastor, cold smoked and cured sea bass in chaya aioli, and grilled skirt steak beautifully dressed with herbs make a lovely afternoon snack. Ask for a table in the shallow pool seating area to dine with your toes in the water." - Bill Esparza

We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner(different days) at Mi Amor—and loved every meal! The food is consistently delicious and thoughtfully made. While the atmosphere didn’t feel super romantic to me, it’s perfect for a fun girls' trip or a chill, stylish meal with friends. Definitely recommend!

A variety of dishes that makes it hard to choose from. We enjoyed breakfast, brunch and dinner here. Very friendly staff and beautiful setting.

We made dinner reservations here and walked from the hotel we were staying at. The hotel and restaurant are quite lovely and beautiful. The tables placed over the water looked really fun but it was raining hard this night and we dressed finely so we found it perfect to sit in the indoor dining area. The table was set wonderfully well and our server, Teo, took excellent care of us from then on. We shared a bottle of Rose and still water. He had a very large classic Caesar salad and I had the Roasted Cornish Hen. It was very delicious. Sadly, we had a huge lunch so we honestly couldn't manage to eat anything else. By fate, the next day we went biking and it started to downpour heavily and we were close by and stopped in to get out from the rain for a drink. Teo remembered us from the night before and we enjoyed some strawberry margaritas with him for one last experience. Lastly, I have to give a shout out to the concierge at the front desk. I had gone up to ask a couple questions and both times she stood up to give me full attention and I found it to be incredibly respectful and professional. I haven't seen that anywhere else lately. Very impressive. Highly recommend this hotel.

German was our server both for our breakfast and dinner this week. We always enjoy how peaceful it is here, and love to just listen to the ocean breeze. & of course the food & service is also amazing. Thanks German & see you all again soon!

Google
We ordered room service and the food was finger licking good! Such different flavors and their combination was so new to me! I loved even the fries that came with the sandwich. It looked like the portion size is small, but trust me you will be more than full after eating each of the below dishes. We ordered Korean style fried chicken sandwich , which came as a burger with fries. And we also ordered tostada with coconut flakes. The whole combination of fresh coconut flakes with ginger sauce and cashew nuts and chaya and thinly sliced peppers on top of tostadas was so fresh and bursting with flavor! Definitely recommended! Edit: We have been ordering almost all our meals as room service from here. Special shoutout to the chefs here! Loved all our meals. You should not expect local taste but it’s a take on local cuisine with a gourmet touch. Other dishes I tried here were cucumber noodles, it was okay. Kale and burrata was okay. Chiliqueles with egg was very flavorful and delicious.

Google
Such an amazing place to stay, it’s nice and quite and on the other side of the hotel zone of Tulum. It’s nice and close to a public beach(walking distance). They also collaborate with a few other hotels to get you a discount on drinks. Truly a place for love, got engaged to the love of my life here on Valentine’s Day.

Google
We had the best ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ experience at Mi Amor this week! We will return very soon for sure. The setting, the service and the food and drink were completely amazing. AND all of this doesn’t break the bank! The entrance is very warm and friendly, as it’s always been. Our server/host was Ric (Ricardo) and he was attentive, friendly and efficient. He thoughtfully and with personal passion explained the menu items and drinks we chose, including in depth knowledge of mezcal. And the food is a star ⭐️ here. The guacamole 🥑 features a tomatillo vinaigrette, which delivers it as the best guacamole in Tulum. A very generous portion with heirloom corn tostadas is only 250 MXN…with the amazing view. For something new to us we chose the red dzikilpak, a creamy, sensuous mix of charred heirloom tomatoes, roasted pepper guajillo oil, topped with crunchy pumpkin seeds, only 240 MXN for a large serving. We chose 3 of the 4 tostada offerings and my favorite was the cold smoked and cured sea bass. Grilled local octopus and grilled steak were also excellent choices. We also sampled the most moist and creamy brioche French toast for 240 MXN and the best steak tartare I’ve had since NYC with Dijon aioli, percorino Romano cheese, crunchy capers and tiny croutons. All amazing.

Google
We had an excellent lunch here. The cocktails were amazing, and so was the food. We had the Black Ceviche, Guacamole, Octopus Tostado, and Steak Tostado. Everything was world-class, especially the Octopus Tostado and Black Cevice. Brisa was our waitress, and the service was impeccable. Highly highly recommend.

Yelp
Pretty view, good cocktails and yummy food. We really enjoyed the Tetela which was on their special menu.

Yelp
Hailing from San Francisco CA - my hubby and I know and appreciate top notch food. Let me tell you .. this place is going to blow your socks off .... The chefs here are passionate about their dishes and you'll see it in your interactions w/ them. From brekky to dinner - we tried practically the entire menu since we were staying at their resort. I can confidently say that I had the best smash burger, shrimp, baked eggs burrata and much more here. I'm talking Michelin quality technique and presentation. Fresh juices/smoothies in the AM come clutch too. Cocktails are gourmet and desserts even have pairing if you're in the mood! Thank you guys for a wonderful experience!

Yelp
First let me say that this restaurant is very beautiful and instagram worthy! It's surrounded by water for the hotel guests and sits up on a small hill so that you can look out to the ocean. The interior is light and welcoming. The servers were very nice and patient with us. The food was very good! I got the guacamole and the Korean fried chicken sandwich which was large portions. I could have split the sandwich with my fiancé and it still would have been enough. All of the ingredients were fresh and the menu was well thought out and executed. The only hiccup we had was at the end of our stay, there was some confusion about the checks but I could have been due to us being in a large group.

Yelp
My friends and I were looking for a place to have a cute little brunch while in Tulum and Mi Amor kept coming up all over our TikTok's. We decided to give it a try and the overall aesthetics and food did not disappoint. Mi Amor is located in a national park, so when coming via taxi/private driver your vehicle will be searched and you will have to pay about $3 USD. When we arrived, we were seated quickly at a table next to the pool. Overall the pool looked pretty nice -- although it was filled with leaves (but I blame that more on being surrounded by trees blowing in the vibe than being dirty/uncared for). Our waiter, German, came to take our drink order quickly -- then we didn't see him again for a solid 30 minutes. When came back in 30 minutes to take our food order....we DID NOT even have our drinks yet. When we asked him the status on our drinks, it became very apparent that he did not put in the drink orders -- so we waited about another 15 minutes then each drink slowly started coming out 1 by 1. We put in our food order and the food also took a VERY long time to be come out. However, the food was AMAZING. Definitely very good. Now where our experience really took a turn and where things went down hill, is when it came time to pay. When German brought over our bill, which was just a little over $300 USD, he handed me the bill and then said "People normally tip me 15%". I said okay, I can add a tip onto my card and he said "No, only tip in cash". First and foremost, you went missing for 30+ minutes, forgot to put our drinks in, and now your telling me how much to tip you and only in cash when the receipt clearly allows for card tips?! Needless to say, my friends and I decided we would tip about $30 USD which was 10% of the bill. German came back, looked at the $30 then looked at the bill and said, "This is it? This is only 8%". We informed him it was actually 10% and then he began to argue back and forth with us on the tip before rolling his eyes and walking away. I've NEVER experienced anyone as ungrateful. At that moment I wanted to take back my tip completely. It was so rude. Not to mention one of my friends gave him an extra $5 after all of that and he snatched it out her hand and did not even say thank you. Truly insane.

Yelp
Definitely for tourists since it's located in a hotel and overpriced, but we had no choice because we were staying in a villa nearby with no car, and this was the only food place that was walking distance for us. We came by on a Saturday at around 2:40 and the place was pretty empty (understandable since it's kind of a weird time and everyone is probably at the beach or on some kind of excursion still). I ordered grilled octopus tostadas and it was good. They also give a good amount of octopus but overall, they're still small tostadas. Was it worth 375 MXN (aka almost $20 USD)? I don't think so. They're also really messy to eat. I also ordered a side of esquites (basically elote in a cup) and so did several other people at the table. Nobody liked it. They use those big kernels of Mexican corn (which none of us had ever had before so a little head's up would have been nice especially if the place is catering to tourists. It was soggy, chewy, and bland. You can skip this one. For drinks, I had the Summer juice (watermelon, strawberries, mandarin), which was nice and refreshing. Overall, I'd only recommend going here out of convenience but if you have a choice, I'm sure there are better places in Tulum.

Yelp
Beautiful picturesque view of the ocean is what your eyes will see when you dine here. It's views are incredible! The service is excellent and the food exceptionally good! We stayed here three nights and I didn't want to leave. I highly recommend the hotel and restaurant!

Yelp
There's a lot of great spots in town with great food and service, but most places we've been to in Tulum feel like a rip off. This is one of the great ones. Beautiful restaurant, great service, and amazing food. Highly recommend especially if you're staying on this side of town!

Cara J.

Yelp
The food is delicious and well presented. Both healthy and decadent options. We ate here several times while staying at the hotel.
google avatar

Yelp
A beautiful location overlooking the cliffs of the ocean. Trendy, upscale + boho vibe. Food was incredible! We had the cucumber salad, steak + frites, and curry prawns followed by chocolate torte and cocktails.

Jenna W.

Yelp
The view was pretty and food was 7/10 but it was way too expensive to even justify ever going back. For a bowl of fruit, Chilaquiles, 3 mimosas we paid almost $140 dollars. Plus the taxis leaving there tax.
google avatar

Yelp
Super cute place, and they offer a small co-work space. Beautiful atmosphere. It is also a hotel. If you are not a guest at the hotel, they do not have much customer service to offer. Their drinks were good and the food looks good as well. We didn't eat, just had some desserts and cocktails. Just a heads up, they charge 1000 pesos per person to use any of the amenities like the pool.
google avatar

Harrison K.

Yelp
Solid food but a little pricey as expected. Not as many options as you would think on the menu. The babaganoush was creative and tasty with a fun crunch from the rice crispies. The burger was solid but not overwhelmingly great. Nice to be close to the water and have a view of the gulf!
google avatar

Yelp
While exploring Tulum on bikes we stopped by Mi Amor for a quick lunch. We were blown away by the flavors in each dish. I recommend trying the Steak Tostadas and Herb Caesar salad. We also tried the mushroom and chicken dumplings which were to die for (special menu item). The ambiance overlooking the sea made this the perfect spot for a date. If you're looking for a meal that will excite your tastebuds, look no further!
google avatar

Mike Z.

Yelp
The restaurant is perched over the edge of the sea. You may sit inside and still feel outdoors or, as a guest, you may eat in the cabanas. The meal is sure to be excellent. It is prepared by one of the best chefs in Quintana Roo.
google avatar

Yelp
Due to traffic we wanted to try something close to us. So we walked here base on Yelp reviews. Nice hotel. Friendly people. Restaurants we ordered aricini and short rib croquettes. They both looked similar when arrived.pretty good tho. Better with garlic dipping sauce. The beet salad was delicious not overpowering with dressing. We also orders shrimp tagliatelle and fried fish. The shrimp past fish was good. The past not overcooked however the shrimp were so tiny. The fish was just a small fillet. I was hoping at least it'll be whole fish if not entire filet. But cooked well not fishy not chewy. Good combination of crunch and savory.

Kristina H.

Yelp
1st the aesthetics are amazing! The place is beautiful! Trees and greenery everywhere, ocean view and refreshing breeze. Picture perfect! But we walked in and asked for separate bills as 2 people in our party had to leave early. After ordering this became a point of friction and the waiters tried to say it was impossible. Then a complete mix up of the drinks which is understandable to an extent. We asked which drink belonged to whom and even pointed to the menu to ensure they understood what we meant and yet they still got it wrong and tried to charge us. I told them that I had an onion allergy they said they understood. The server brought guacamole with no onions and gave it to the wrong person and brought a sandwich with onions and said I never asked for no onions on the sandwich specifically. (Also want to add that the menu does not say there are onions on the sandwich). I told them I couldn't eat it and was still charged. They were supposed to bring another guacamole with no onions it never came and they tried to give me the guacamole that had already been eaten from. All in all not a great experience at all.

Yelp
Food was soooooo good and the service was great! We ate there at least 7 times within 3 days, lol. I can't wait to return!

Yelp
I found the review that said everything was wonderful and fabulous and only gave the restaurant four stars hilarious! This restaurant deserves five stars in all categories. The ambience is amazing. The service is exceptional and the food is to die for. We bought a home in Tulum last year, and every time we have guests we bring them to this restaurant and are never disappointed.

Alex Z.

Yelp
Let me first start by saying that I am born an raised in New York, and I have a background working with Michelin Star rated restaurants. That being said, I can't express enough how much this restaurant impressed me. Over the course of our stay, we tried everything on the menu, which offered everything from smoothies to juices and specialty cocktails, as well as local dishes to American fare. Every drink and food item was done in its own unique way, without being redundant on the menu. I could really tell the chef took time and effort into thinking about how all flavors mixed together. Chef Jose Luis Hinostroza is a culinary genius, and we will be following him in the future.

Yelp
For the past few years Tulum has been a favorite vacation destination for my boyfriend and I...every visit to Tulum, we always stop by here before departing back stateside...I had the fish and my boyfriend ordered the burger, we paired it with their awesome cocktail selection...till next visit...
google avatar

Gwendolyn L.

Yelp
This place surpassed my expectations. I stopped by just to have lunch & wasn't expecting SO much. The service was amazing, beautiful view right on the water, and the restaurant is beautifully designed overall. We ordered the shrimp as an appetizer & it was AMAZING! I also ordered the burger for myself, which came with the BEST fries I have ever had in my life. Definitely a gem & will be back here.
google avatar

Yelp
Very good food and service in a chic hotel restaurant with billion dollar open air (covered) views of the ocean. Definitely worth a visit for a cocktail, breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
google avatar

Nauman B.

Yelp
Sitting on big paved rocks, facing the water, listening to the waves and seeing the sun set and slowly the moon reflecting its light on the water, with light breeze blowing cool air and holding a wine glass; that is dining at Mi Amor in a nut shell. Stylishly contemporary within respectful boundaries of Mother Nature and staff service that just can't get any better, our dining experience was classy every bit of the way. Me and my partner, both had wine and ordered the fish as our entrees; the local and the grilled. Their local of course changes daily by the catch and hence also the way it's cooked. But needless to say they were both cooked to perfection. The grilled fish was so juicy and the blend of almonds, grapes and lemon was like having a bite of all flavors, slightly sour with notes of sweetness and a tad crunchiness. If in Tulum, do your self a favor, just don't skip this one. With that said I'd definitely recommend either going a bit early, around 5:30 or making reservations.
google avatar

Gal N.

Yelp
We stayed at the hotel for a few nights, and so had the opportunity to eat the breakfast several times, and dinner once. Service is always great, as are the cocktails and smoothies, and the view is great. Breakfast is a solid 4/4.5 stars -- the fruit and yogurt plate is great, as are the eggs and the oatmeal. Fruit juices are fresh, the tea is good. The espresso is only passable, and I wouldn't come here for that, but otherwise we were quite happy with the breakfast. Dinner is a slightly different matter, and I'd rate it a 3. We started with the guacamole and chips, which was large and delicious. We then had the arugula salad, which was pretty good. The mains, however, missed the mark. The beef duo was too salty, with flavors that were too heavy and overpowering to really come together. The fish was covered with some pickled vegetable, and again just didn't taste good as a whole (even to a self-declared pickle enthusiast). The side order of the roasted vegetables was good. Overall we felt like dinner was heavy-handed, too heavy or rich or intense in parts, and it just didn't justify the price. TL;DR: come here for breakfast or for drinks and appetizers, but maybe skip dinner.

Yelp
This place rocks. You will not find a more relaxing and chic atmosphere with this quality food. The staff is very attentive. The food is consistently good. We stayed here for our honeymoon so got to try the breakfast daily. BFAST- Highly recommend the huevos rancheros, torta maya, sweet potato salad for breakfast. LUNCH - gotta get the fish tacos. pickled onions, avocado crema, sooo refreshing and good. We also tried the burger, but wasn't really impressed and the fries were not actually fries. The breakfast served is usually so filling you can skip lunch or just order guac mid afternoon for a snack. DINNER- the agnolotti was fabulous, got it the first night we were there and thought about it the whole trip and ordered it on our last night as well. The dish seems like a small portion but I was stuffed both times. The complimentary bread with homemade butter and vinegar is sooo tasty. The chopped salad served atop guac was fabulous. You can't go wrong with the starter of chips and guac. Skip the hummus, too dry. Drinks are always tasty- get adventurous with one of the house cocktails, I was never disappointed. Happy hour is daily at 5 pm 2for1 cocktails (you can basically create with 1 liquor of choice, 1 herb of choice, one fruit infusion). Ryka the restaurant manager is so friendly. We loved our waiters Jonny, Grass, Fernando.. Still dreaming of this place...

Yelp
The octopus was incredible! Service was excellent and the sunsets here are amazing. The attire is casual chic, crowd is 20-40's. The hotel is very small, just 18 rooms...so the restaurant is never too crowded. 2/1 drink specials 4-7p. The drinks are fun, mix/match between type of liquor, fruit option and finish with your favorite garnish. All in all, a delightful place! Good for couples.

Ishan R.

Yelp
The service was Awsm ... the beach party was fun and the food let's talk about the food ! The suckling pig tacos TOOO FUCKING FIREEE ‍ get those And the SHIRMP was sensational
google avatar

Sierra G.

Yelp
Wow! Very great service and food! The ambiance is great for couples and a fraction of the cost of some of the more fancy steakhouses on the beach.

Jordan L.

Yelp
Service was really incredible, and the food was a nice change of pace! My husband and I ventured here from a nearby hotel and the front desk and servers were all so friendly and accommodating. It started to rain a bit while we were eating on the patio, and servers rushed to help bring things indoors very quickly. We had the black octopus pasta and tagliatelle and two cocktails (one was mezcal-based and was excellent!). Overall, very nice experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Easily one of the best places to eat in Tulum. The total package--incredibly friendly staff, great drinks, insane views and of course top notch food.

Shaddy Z.

Yelp
Awesome food and cocktails. I ate the Baja fish tacos, steak tacos, French toast, huevos rancheros, ceviche, oysters, and fried potatoes. I recommend everything, except maybe the potatoes were a little too crunchy. Great service too.
google avatar

Alisha B.

Yelp
We stayed at the Mi Amor resort for our honeymoon and their food did not disappoint! Every meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner) was beautifully made and exploding with flavors. Fresh ingredients and artistic plating created wonderful culinary experiences! If you're not staying at the resort (which you should be), then you should definitely make time to eat there, enjoy the beautiful scenery by the water and chat with the wonderful staff who will take great care of you!
google avatar

Kristen H.

Yelp
Nice meal- the fried cauliflower flower appetizer was amazing along with the short rib balls. Great sparkling drinks and the entrees were good too. I would skip the apple tart next time.
google avatar

Xenia C.

Yelp
Wonderful food, views and staff! My husband and I stayed at Mi Amor for our honeymoon and we enjoyed every bit of it. The hotel staff was so accommodating and they were also very friendly! Thank you Efrain!! We will definitely return!!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely superb kitchen and a stunning modern setting overlooking the sea at this upscale boutique hotel. Chef is an innovative master with French background mixing local and classic ingredients and styles. Great Relaxed but upscale for the area and well worth a visit

Paige W.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I decided to stop in at Mi Amor for a cocktail before heading to dinner (was to be elsewhere)-- Not only did we ditch our dinner reservation to stay and eat at Mi Amor, we came back again the next day! The food was incredible, the staff were rockstars, and ambiance was stunning. My boyfriend has a gluten and cilantro allergy... the chef came out to personally chat about options. And last but not least... the best bartender I have encountered-- Brisa, we miss you! I wish I had known about Mi Amor before our trip, we would have stayed there also. Next Tulum trip, I know where I'll be:)
google avatar

Marissa M.

Yelp
Came here for lunch. The hotel is beautiful and has a really nice view. That was what attracted us to come by. The food was okay, but way too overpriced. I would recommend just coming for drinks to enjoy the view.

Edward V.

Yelp
Wow Amazing food and service! Great brunch place with A view. Definitely coming back here.
google avatar

Annie H.

Yelp
Beautiful view, service was excellent and food was tasty! What else can you ask for when you are in vacation?! Perfect weather!
google avatar

Clayton S.

Yelp
Amazing! Food was incredible and Rául was amazing as our waiter, I wish we could rate him 5 stars as well! Atmosphere was perfect. We had our 2nd anniversary dinner here and are so happy we chose Mi Amor. Will definitely be back.

Vivi W.

Yelp
Great drinks. The jazz on the rocks on Saturday is a good touch. I think the drinks are not as strong compared to its sister hotels but delicious. The staff is very attentive. If you are a hotel guest you will find the breakfast really healthy and delicious. I recommend the citrus salad it's one of a kind
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
This location is now just called Mi amore restaurant (at Mi amore hotel). We were told that Unico moved into Tulum Pueblo. We had an excellent evening. Strong breeze blowing through the doors, modern building, good service. Cocktails were fine, if a little limited. They have a champagne, special gin and tonics, and build your own (liquor, fruit juice, herb) selection. Decent oysters and baraccha. Good steak. Chocolate desert with passion fruit sorbet was the best desert we had in Tulum. Lounge singer was excellent. Hotel is fantastic...except for no actual beach and ocean access / swimming is very limited. Hard to swallow when in Tulum.

Anne B.

Yelp
This is the first time I have visited Tulum. Mi Amor is a very short stroll from the beach I rode my bike to each day. The restaurant is perched Right above a pristine beach. The view is the icing on the cake to this restaurant. I ate here two days in a row and the food and service are impeccable. Our waiters Javier and Raul were very friendly and answered questions professionally and honestly. Please give Mi Amor a go as the fish was delicious local, Fresh and expertly plated. Cocktails were refreshing and delightful, both alcoholic and non alcoholic. The ambience is low key and adults only. I Probably will eat here one more time before I leave. It's worth the splurge.

Annaleiss A.

Yelp
Hands down the best food we ate in Tulum! The staff in the Mi Amor restaurant are amazing. They are full of enthusiasm and energy and from the second you sit down until you leave you will be smiling. A special shoutout to Edwin and Gras for taking extra time to share their local knowledge and teach us a bit of Spanish. We were staying at the hotel and enjoyed breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and cocktails at the Mi Amor restaurant. We found the food to be fresh and seasonal and always prepared in creative ways. You really can't go wrong with anything you pick off the menu.

Josh P.

Yelp
Had breakfast here very morning and it was great. Cannot beat the views from this restaurant

Mary M.

Yelp
Excellent food, service, and a tremendous view. Loved everything we ordered here. Thank you Alberto!!!!

Navin S.

Yelp
Was staying at another hotel in the tulum area when I chanced upon this gem for lunch. Great little restaurant with a phenomenal view and outstanding food. Would stay at this hotel if I came to tulum again.

Joel B.

Yelp
We ate here twice while on vacation in July. Beautiful atmosphere and a great view. Creative cuisine, cocktails, and a strong wine list of Mexican wines from the Guadeloupe valley. Service was superb(muchas gracias Javier) along with the front desk staff as you enter the hotel, bartenders, and management. Mi Amor is a must while in Tulum.

Sara G.

Yelp
Amazing! Awesome food, you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu! Great service, great views. Come for Jazz on the Rocks night if you are here for an evening meal.
