On the Grid : Mi Barrio

"Mi Barrio es su barrio. There is no shortage of great Mexican food in Georgia, but in Grant Park, Mi Barrio is truly loco. The wonderful thing about Mi Barrio is that they do whatever they want. Sometimes they're open, sometimes they're not. The mystery and suspense only keeps the desire alive. When you sit down, you'll be greeted with a friendly "Hola" and a delightful bowl of homemade salsa and warm tortilla chips. After a quick glance at the menu, you'll probably want to order the Torta de Lengua or the Tamales, all the tamales." - Matchstic

Google
Walked past here and literally turned around to go eat whatever they were cooking outside. Turns out it was Taco Tuesday and we did NOT regret making the stop. The food was amazing, and the people were so kind!! They gave us an extra taco when they saw we were sharing and told us they’ve been around for 20 years. Great place to sit outside, enjoy tacos and tamales and elote (all fantastic, especially the pork taco) and chill. We will be coming back as much as possible!

Google
Great food from some great people at Mi Barrio! One of my favorite places to get Mexican food from in the city, and thankful I live close by. Staff is super friendly and the food came out quick. Glad to see they're up and running in the pandemic.

Google
If I could give this place a billion stars, I would. Our two year old had a massive meltdown over holding a glass bottle, and nothing helped. The (manager? Host? Awesome human in charge of the dining room?) presented us with shiny thing after shiny thing and nothing would calm our guy. My husband took him outside to run around and co-regulate, and this saint of a human came back —- at a super busy slammed restaurant — with the glass my child wanted to hold taped together in two clear plastic cups. “He won’t break it now! Here you go!” No words. Also the food is awesome and if you want your faith in humanity restored, Mi Barrio is your place. We love you. ❤️

Since moving to Atlanta a few years ago this gem has been home for me and my family. The food is *chefs kiss*! The vibe is super cozy and welcoming. The owner even knows our orders before we’ve opened our mouths. That alone takes intention and care for your customers. If you haven’t given it a try then do yourself a favor. You won’t leave hungry. My go to is the chicken chimichanga but you can’t go wrong with anything on this menu.

If you never been to Mexico go here! Tacos are authentic, friendly staff, good drinks, and good atmosphere. My go to spot for tacos!

Google
Highly recommend this restaurant! The server was awesome, the food was delicious and the drinks were spectacular! We tried the cricket tacos, such a cool experience. If you are looking for a fun place, great drinks and awesome food… this is your place. The gluten free options were plentiful and delicious!

We just moved to the neighborhood and we are so glad we decided to try this spot! So SO yummy, affordable, and the kindest people. We had cheese dip, steak tacos, enchiladas, & tamales. We loved every bite! I really loved their beans 🤤 we just read the owners are retiring and closing in November. This makes me sad but I wish them the best & I guess we will just have to go as much as we can before closing day!

Yelp
The food is excellent. I got three street tacos with a side of rice and beans and it was the best meal I've had in a while.

Yelp
1st things 1st: this is a small family only restaurant. There is like 4 people working here max. And they are all AMAZING!! The food is great, hot and fresh. Very authentic Mexican. But please understand to be patient. It's a small location that does their own thing. Most customers are regulars and know how things go. Be nice and enjoy the vibes. The food is so worth it. Once it's sold out it's out but I enjoy myself every time I'm there. There is always something else on the menu that I'm able to order instead. As basic as it is, their chips and salsa are great. Always warm and their salsas are amazing with great variety and flavor. I would give 5 stars if the parking was more manageable and maybe a tiny bit more in the menu. The menu has the names of things but I don't always like having to go to google to find out what it is; and even then what Google may give isn't what it is. Parking is not something in their control but something others should be aware of. Park down the street and walk over. The margaritas are THE BEST!

Yelp
They have their own parking out front. Ambiance was fun. Very casual. One server for whole restaurant and she did an amazing job. I was craving chips and salsa (like west side of the US kind of Mexican food) and those did not disappoint. It was the squirt out of the bottle into a dipping bowl kind of salsa. Salsa is mild but still flavorful. Ordered their cheese enchiladas. It was served with rice and beans. The rice was good and the beans were alright. I wish the cheese inside the enchiladas was hot and melted. The sizes of the enchiladas were smaller than normal, I would say. They have a great selection of bottled drinks that you can take directly from their fridge. Another dish that was ordered was their nachos with beef. The beef had an interesting texture, different than what I normally eat. The sour cream was runny and the cheese wasn't stringy when grabbing a chip which was low key disappointing. Pay at the counter. No itemized list of items available, maybe there is but we never got a copy. I would go back for their chips and salsa and maybe try their seafood dishes... smelt someone's dish near our table.

Yelp
Lisa and the food was AMAZING!! From her great customer service and friendly attitude ON THE PHONE before I got there; to her attentiveness during my visit. As an expecting mother, I woke up early this morning CRAVING a stuffed poblano pepper. (There's a place that used to serve them here in Atlanta I would frequent; but they took it off their menu.) So I was on a frantic search to find a replacement. After spending a few hours early in the am searching online for these stuffed peppers, I came across Mi Barrio. I wasn't sure if they actually had it. So I waited a few hours until they opened to call. (I've passed by Mi Barrio several times in the past and had no idea of what a GEM it was!) Lisa answered the phone and quickly let me know that they had JUST WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR! She also mentioned that they sell out quickly. So I let her know that I was ON MY WAY asap! Once I arrived, my partner and I enter their quaint, family-style restaurant. I was so comfortable with how at home it made us feel. The size of the dining area made the interaction so much more intimate and meaningful. Once I let Lisa know that I was the one who called, she already knew exactly what I wanted. I got the stuffed poblano pepper with beef. It came with a side of rice, refried beans, lettuce, tomato, onions, avocado on a small bed of spinach. They also gave us complimentary homemade chips and salsa! OH, and I can't forget the hot, fresh homemade corn tortillas on the side as well. My guy, he got their shrimp tacos, street style. The shrimp were seasoned well, a NICE size and great portions! Lisa was very attentive, giving us their fresh sauces to accompany our dishes along with anything else we needed. The family operation that was exhibited made me want to cry happy tears. From the communication from the front of house to back of house... to the baby granddaughter making an appearance saying hello to all the customers!! I cannot WAIT to return!!! This has made my entire day!! Gracias MI BARRIO y MUCHAS GRACIAS LISA!!

Yelp
Mom & Pop shops seem to be the BEST!!! I love authentic eatery. I love it more when it's the parents shop & they're still the cook, i know that they cook with so much love! Tacos were so great!!! A taco with a fresh sliced avocado! I mean how much better can you get?? They have their daughter waitressing which was dope & she was great & friendly. Ambiance was super calm & family orientated, they also had a mixed crowd which allowed me to know that everyone loves their tacos! Will definitely be back!

Yelp
What an awesome hidden gem. After a busy day of working and a workout break, I was starving and had no clue what I was craving. On my way home I pulled over for a second to figure out what the heck I was doing next, and ended up in the parking lot of Mi Barrio. Located in the midst of a busy part of East Atlanta, if you blink, you could really miss this gem. I wasn't really looking for it but just stumbled upon their front door! I quickly took a peek at their Yelp page and looking at the reviews of my fellow Yelpers, I knew I was in the right spot. So I headed on in. Dim but gently brightened up with natural light from outdoors, I loved how authentic the vibe was when I entered. I didn't feel like I was in some gentrified, modern Mexican eatery, but instead, in an authentic Taqueria. It's not a huge place but there's enough room to bring your family out! I was warmly greeted by the sweetheart behind the counter and escorted to a table by another. When I arrived, there was only one gentleman sitting inside, but by the time I left, there were 4 or 5 tables full of customers. As soon as I sat down there were fresh chips and salsa waiting for me. Y'all. That salsa was DELICIOUS. Wow. So spicy, so fresh. I could eat it everyday. I sat for a while waiting to order, but I think it was only because I tend to look preoccupied when solo dining because I'm usually nose-first into my book or iPad lol. As soon as I locked eyes with the young lady taking orders, she headed straight to me and was an angel. I ended up ordering her recommendation: Carne asada tacos with corn tortillas and I grabbed a beer from the fridge before my food came. (Yes, I went to the gym and then had a beer, pls mind your biz ) I swear I looked away for one second and my plate came out sizzling a minute later, lol. Not in a sense that it wasn't fresh, because it absolutely was! The portion was amazing, there wasn't a clear spot on that plate. It came with beans, rice, a little lettuce + tomato and avocado on the side. Paired with their verde sauce and the hot sauce on the table, I was stuffed leaving. It was all so delicious and the steak was well-seasoned without going overboard. Family-owned and operated, I'm a new believer and fan. With these amazing dishes, prices and team members assisting, how could I not be?

Yelp
My first time here and Lisa was amazing. I've been looking for some authentic Mexican food and they delivered. The street taco was delicious and the street vibe even better.

Yelp
I've gone to Mi Barrio a few times over the last several years and I remembered it being better. We ordered take out recently and it was just ok. Nothing was bad, but given the prices (you can find cheaper authentic Mexican food around time), it wouldn't be my first choice. We had the Chile Relleno and steak tacos. They were both just fine but the meat seemed a little over-cooked (or boiled) appearance wise. The refried beans were, like everything else, just not that flavorful. We also tried the Flautas which were very fried (as I supposed expected) and but more tasty than the other items. Still, the meat was a little dry. Maybe we just came on an off night

Yelp
Mi Barrio is that lowkey neighborhood restaurant that isn't all that "fancy" but has great food every time. Always call ahead, because sometimes it is closed during their "regular business hours" for random reasons. That's kind of the only frustrating thing. Oh and always bring your own water because sometimes for random reasons they only have bottled and I hate the plastic waste. Their chips and salsa are great and they always refill your chips or salsa if you run out of one before the other. We always get the veggie tostone which is loaded high, and I always get the taco plate with pinto beans, lengua and al pastor. Their al pastor is the shining star, and sometimes I just get two al pastor tacos. The tacos are really hearty and the al pastor in particular is so, so good. Savory and saucy and satisfying. Their refried beans are also bomb, and their tabletop salsa is great for drizzling, too.

Yelp
Im so happy right now bro. I walk up and i see kids just running around having a great time. Walk inside and the waitress says "just grab a drink from the fridge and take a seat." I order up some lengua, carne asada, adobada. They get you free chips while you wait. Sure enough, later on you find out the kids are with the restaurants family. I just love that its such a laid-back family atmosphere. Good salsa. Good tacos. Good vibes. Good people. Good stuff. Im only mad i let this place hide in plain sight.

Yelp

Yelp
I've been dying to try this place and finally got to! It's a small restaurant on Memorial Drive, across from Oakland Cemetery. They have a a few sparking spaces in front but there's a store next door where I believe you can also park. We grabbed menus and seated ourselves. A server asked for our order and we got Chile relleno, steak taquitos combo, 2 tacos combo with chicken and beef tongue. My husband ordered steak taquitos but got chicken instead and was too hangry to say anything so he ate his meal. My Chile relleno was super cheesy and quite heavy. I would say their food is very authentic and our food came out fast! Drinks are self service so you just grab whatever you want from their refrigerators (beer, soda and water included). You can certainly get the same quality food on Buford Highway for lesser price, but this is definitely my new go to restaurant for some real and authentic Mexican food.

Iash G.

Yelp
This place is terrible and the lady that was supposed to be the owner or manager, or whoever she was was so ghetto and I told her that the food wasn't too good and she was very rude and I wasn't too happy with the service. I said it in the nicest way possible, she started getting irate, jumping all around like a maniac. She even tried to charge at me and attack me, let's start with the food. The shrimp was undercooked. It arrived cold no flavor whatsoever. No sauces to add to it and then when you ask this woman for anything she jumps at you and says there's hot sauce on the table. Whatever's on the table is what you get, so I kindly got up and excuse myself from the table and went to pay for my food and told her that I was very disappointed that this place was such a poor experience And that she should look into the quality of the food and how she treats people and that's when she went off. Here's a video of it the food being terrible. She seems like she has some mental issues that need to be addressed. She definitely needs professional help not to mention there was bugs all over very dirty. It looks like they haven't cleaned it since they bought the place, nobody wore gloves or hair coverings. She was in and out the kitchen and back to the register back-and-forth which we know is not sanitary and then they have a back room that looks like some type of place that they may be doing something weird with children at there was a bunch of children that look like they were being marketed out front. This place altogether was just a big NO from the time I went in there until the time I left there was definitely something really suspicious about that place.

Yelp
Not gonna lie I was expecting more from this cute little place. Adobada meat is pork which wasn't specified, it was very dry. They only came to ask what I wanted dropped the food and forgot about me. Not really worth it if you ask me.

Deborah G.

Yelp
This is the 3rd time I have eaten at this restaurant. The food is bland, the beans watery. spent 65.00 dollars for 3 burritos and 2 tacos for a take out order, my kids got sick from it. Threw it all away. Never again bad restaurant

Wendy C.

Yelp
The TACOS are BOMB- Let's not forget the handmade tortillas It's a small restaurant with a homey Ambiance, our Server Lisa gave a warm Welcoming & the ordering process with her was smooth her Service was the best

Yelp
Genuinely the most wholesome experience I have ever had at a restaurant. Such a warm environment and the food is delicious - top tier. Such a friendly staff and so kind!! Highly recommended!

Susan S.

Yelp
Mi Barrio is fantastic! By far the best Mexican food I have ever had, anywhere, every single time, and we've been going there for 10 years (and one of my favorite restaurants period). One of the very few places you can get beef tongue, and every detail is always spot on! Even just the chips and salsa are head and shoulders above any other place I've ever been, but they also have great sauces, queso....everything is always just so delicious, and the service is outstanding! You can't go wrong with this place!
google avatar

Carla M.

Yelp
This food was so delicious! We are new to the area and decided to try them out. I ordered their chicken taco combo, beans and rice. The flavor was so good and I looked in my bag for more tacos. I ate them! My husband ordered chicken, steak tacos and a pork tamale. He was not disappointed. We can't wait to try more of their menu. I like that it's authentic.

Ritik P.

Yelp
Best Authentic Mexican Food In Atlanta! Undisputed, hands down amazing. From the weekly Posole to the hand-made tortillas this restaurant never disappoints. The staff is all family, so they are so friendly, and being nice can take you a long way. I recommend this place to all my friends!

Amy S.

Yelp
The ceviche rocks! Huge portion with creamy avocado and slight jalapeno bite. I get it every time I go there. Their salsa is my favorite. You could make meal out of the chips and salsa and queso. I love the unpretentious atmosphere, mix of clientele, and friendly staff. Two thumbs up.

Yelp
First off, there isn't much to say about Mi Barrio that hasn't already be said but I'm going to add my 2 cents anyway. I love Mexican, specifically hole-in-the wall Mexican spots. Preferably with someone making tortillas by hand in the kitchen. There's nobody here doing that, but this is definitely a hole-in-the-wall spot and I enjoyed it. It was like going to your grandmothers house and eating and not looking to see how the food was actually prepared because...some things are just better unknown. Anyway, my friends know I love Mexican and they've been saying I need to go here and I was on my way home from somewhere else and realized this was the place they've been telling me about. And I've passed by Mi Barrio before and never realized what it was before, so I made a few maneuvers and made my way back to Mi Barrio. Interior: It's a no frills place, there are tables and you can sit down and eat. If you require fancy and people jumping through hoops to serve you, this ain't it. The folks were friendly, but manage your expectations. I'm not sure if they don't have A/C or if it was just out, but it was/is not air conditioned. I'm fine with that. Also if you're one of those people that relies on food scores as a determining factor of where to eat, this probably isn't a place for you. I rarely look for food scores, but I was just curious about their food score...I didn't see it anywhere. And even if I did see it, I was going to eat there anyway, because...authentic Mexican. Food: I came around 6:30 not realizing that they close at 8:00, I wanted to try the ceviche and after a certain time they don't make another batch. Makes total sense, so if your intent is to order ceviche make sure you come a little earlier. So I shifted my order and just went with a chicken taco and a shrimp taco. They were tacos, they don't have an abundance of toppings which I find typical of most authentic taco spots. The chicken taco was chicken and onions and the shrimp taco was shrimp, onion, and cilantro. I squeezed all the life out of the 2 limes they gave me and I was completely satisfied with my tacos. Perhaps a little cheese and/or lettuce would have been nice, I'll probably ask what else I can add next time. Next visit I plan to try the ceviche and the queso.

Priscilla D.

Yelp
My all time favorite Mexican food restaurant in Atlanta! I'm originally from the southwest and have been searching high and low for an authentic Mexican restaurant when I moved to Atlanta. I found that and more at Mi Barrio. Not only is the food incredible (a better torta de lengua than what I get back at home), but the customer service is next level. This family owned restaurant makes you feel like you're a part of it! They welcome you with open arms and the cozy low lit ambiance of the restaurant makes you feel right at home. The margaritas are an absolute must, but be warned they're pretty strong! If I could rate them 10 out of 5 stars I would.

Debbie J.

Yelp
Great family, great atmosphere & wonderful food! We love this place. Lisa & her family have been serving some of the best food for years!

Yelp
DO NOT RECOMMEND. Two thumbs down. I had been talking this place up to my mom about the great things I had heard about an authentic Mexican family owned restaurant near our home that I was dying to try. My mom and I pull up to the restaurant and a man appearing to be a chef runs into the restaurant. We continue getting out of the car (its 8:13pm), walk up to the door to find the door locked. Inside the window we can clearly see several patrons eating inside the restaurant. The sign on the door says "Closes at 9pm". They never even acknowledged us knocking. I'll never return to this place again. Ever. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Terrible display of customer service nor customer centered in any way. Such a shame.

Yelp
So happy to find this local neighborhood Mexican spot right down the street. The food has been consistently yumm and everyone working there has been great. I have a freakish live for cheese and beans, so I made a special request for a bean chimichanga. The cook cake out to verify that's what I wanted which was very thoughtful. She even said I've never done this before so it might be odd, but it came out delicious. I just thought it was cool she came out to check in. My second time back I got the bean cheese nachos, exactly everything I wanted. Oh! And their white queso dip is fire too. So glad to have Mi Barrio as out go-to Mex spot!

Connor W.

Yelp
Delicious food and pretty cheap, I wouldn't suggest going at lunch time because it gets a little crazy, but I would definitely recommend

Yelp
Friendly, authentic, flavorful, and tasty! Love it every time I go! The family has never disappointed in ten years.

Laura L.

Yelp
Moving to the city I didn't think I would find an authentic Mexican restaurant but mi barrio did it for me . You can tell it's fam owened business & they made me feel so welcomed . I'm super picky with Mexican food but The food is amazing & truly authentic. Don't let the negative reviews stop you from trying the place out !!

Yelp
This is my 3rd time coming here. The first time I came, I was really impressed with the food and service and haven't been disappointed since. I'm always very critical of Mexican/Spanish food because I just spent 7 years in SoCal and nothing compares. This is the best I've had since leaving there! The service is outstanding and the portions are generous. The tortillas appear to be hand made. I believe the blonde woman who is ALWAYS working is the daughter of the owner. She is AWESOME. Always super nice, generous, accommodating, & overall gave my friend and I a great experience and was half the reason we have and will continue to come back. Thank you!

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner Friday and I can honestly say this is the best Mexican food I've ever had. The margaritas were nice and strong and come in 32oz only. The service was great and fast. I'm glad we chose the right day because the waitress said they are usually take out only for dinner but since it was Labor Day weekend dine in was allowed. I'm definitely going back.

Yelp
I tried REALLY hard to like this place. Many times I've been Driving down Memorial and saw this place and thought, "I've got to try that place" because it looks like it be authentic Mexican (not Tex-mex) and the Yelp reviews are great. I went last Saturday at 4:30 pm. They're closed between 2-5, but I couldn't tell due to the fact they were repaving their parking lot and had a big sign outside saying "We're open!" I went inside and there were toddlers running around and a waitress getting her hair done. No one said a word to me, no "we're closed," "do you need a menu?" Nothing! I grabbed a menu and browsed. A young girl asked me if I knew what I wanted and I placed an order for a steak burrito with onions and queso. I waited about 12 minutes. Got home and it wasn't what I ordered because they used shredded cheese...ugh. I then ordered queso from Tin Lizzy's to fix the burrito, costing me an extra $6. The whole thing was a waste of $ as it didn't taste how it should...very bland. The chips were blah but the homemade salsa was decent. The place is extremely dark too, well past the normal dim dinner lighting. The cashiers don't give you receipts either and get mad if you ask. Overall, this place misses on so many levels. I almost always give places 2 chances before a review but honestly, I wouldn't go here again.

Yelp
On a busy Tuesday in corporate America i donned my cape and holla clapped "peace out!" And left for lunch. I decided this place looked interesting and swung my whip in a spot and walked in. I was met with a Hello eating in ? We are getting ready to close the kitchen. Yessssss just in time. I glanced at the menu but chose random we are closing the kitchen food. 2 beef enchiladas. Rice beans and a Jarito!! Atmosphere: cochina de abuelito. It looks like someones house but regutted into a restraunt of types and everyone eats in the Living room/ kitchen. I LOVED IT!!! Mexican music decor with a tiny little area that held numerous bottles of liquor. Quality of Food: very hearty and delish Price: affordable. 8.99 Conclusion: my brother and I will visit during hours one day!!!

Yelp
Tried and true over the years. Solid authentic down to earth cantina. To die for ceviche cocktail ... perfect balance of lime, salt and other seasonings ... has avocado in there too ... OMG!!!!! The flank steak and chicken breast a la plancha perfect ... silk like frijoles that go down smooth. Nice Amigas working here ... tough business long hours and they do it well. Their standards are as good as they have always been. They make everything from scratch even the hot sauce, pico de gallo (salsa) and warm nachos ... ahhh. Traditional and they have kept it real. Only serve pozole on Saturdays ... and it sells out fast. They did not have any left when we got there ... Bueno!!!!!!

Mark W.

Yelp
Great food great owners. This place does not disappoint!!! The horchata is amazing along with everything on the menu.

Robert C.

Yelp
I'm from Texas so I've been exposed to all manner of Mexican food. I could never find the quality and authenticity of the Mexican food I love east of the Mississippi until I discovered MiBarrio over 20 years ago and I've been a loyal customer ever since. The surroundings are rustic but happy, the salsas are perfect, the chips and tortillas are always fresh, the beer is always cold, and the margaritas are strong and delicious. This is a one off family operation, not a chain, and the owners always make me feel at home. If you're craving the real deal in Mexican food and enjoy a home grown atmosphere I can't recommend MiBarrio highly enough. If you're a lover of authentic Mexican food I urge you to visit MiBarrio. You'll be glad you did and you will likely find MiBarrio to be your new favorite Mexican restaurant.

Yelp
Great Food Service & Hospitality The Lightings Low & It Was Hot Inside If You Can Get Past That The Experience Is Definitely Worth It‼
google avatar

Carlos S.

Yelp
The chicken and steak fajita quesadillas are delicious. Even the basic chips and salsa are crisp and tasty. My favorite reason to come here is for the horchata. Love this spot!

Joseph H.

Yelp
I witnessed a woman working for this restaurant tell two black people that the kitchen was closed and she could not serve them food. After they left, she proceeded to apologize to other patrons and says "I had to do that because they will say they don't like their food and ask for their money back." I have never witnessed such racist comments in a restaurant - DO NOT eat here!!!

Yelp
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Atlanta. Located in a very fun and walkable neighborhood. The atmosphere is very humble and it feels like you're having dinner at a family friends home. Sir where you like and make yourself comfortable. My kind of place! We ordered a 2 taco plate that came with rice and beans. Extremely fresh tortillas and proteins to accompany them. I had a steak and lengua taco with a steak taco to accompany it. My date had two chicken tacos and they were absolutely DELICIOUS. Everything on the menu is fairly priced, including the alcoholic beverages. I planned on posting better photos of our plates, but we ended up diving into the meal as soon as it hit the table. Don't sleep on this place, lunch or dinner you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
SOOOO good. Me and my friend came on cinco de Mayo and the service was GREAT as well as the food. Try the beef tongue taco and the beef flautas!!! Margaritas are STRONG also

Yelp
Racist and Homophobic AF‼ This is actually my second review. I guess they paid to take the first one down. This family ran restaurant is the worst. My partner and I insisted for the first time. No on greeted us when we entered. When the server finally approached she came with an attitude. We tried to bypass the bad vibes but she just got worse and worse. Finally we decided to leave and told her her service could be better. She quickly told us to never come back and locked the door behind us‼ we literally had a water that's it. I have no idea what her problem was. I called to speak to management and it was her sister‼ I guess they think they can treat you like anything. Oh and after all that I made a Google review and they argued with me online‼ About MY experience ‼ and reviewing other reviews they have a tendency of locking doors in your face. So unprofessional.

Yelp
I wanted to love this so bad. I have had my eye on it as my fav Mexican place is so far for me and I need my fix too often... I'm looking for a closer spot. I love dives and this certainly is one. The food comes out in styrofoam! (I have no problem with disposable but can we do paper?! Save the earth yall!) At night the only lights in the place were from the neon Christmas like lights set up, and the blue glow from their drink fridge. They have a big tv in the corner playing soccer which my husband enjoyed. Our waitress was very sweet and VERY busy. All tables were full( they have about 10 tables in there) and she was doing almost everything. I wasn't mad that I had to wait a couple of times because she had a lot to do.. She was also the cashier at the register! I was disappointed in the food. The chips were thick and I felt had been heated several times. The salsa was nice because it had a nice zing but coulda used some onion or cilantro. The portion sizes were very small I was a bit surprised by that. Here's what we got: Ceviche tostada: about $3.50- this was prolly my favorite this we tried but had way too much onion and cilantro (I should have put the extra in the salsa!). The fish tasted fresh though. Beef and shrimp soft tacos: $2.50 and 3.50- the tortillas were a perfect mix of soft and crispy, I enjoyed it. The steak was way better than the shrimp. The shrimp taco seems out of place and I actually ate it deconstructed because it wasn't as great as a taco.. Needs some flavor. The chicken torte was also "ok". There's nothing special to say about it. Standard sandwich with shredded chicken. They did forget the avocado and it took us a while to get her attention but when she came back she handed me a half an avocado! I was happy with that. The rice was a bit gritty but otherwise standard. They have glass bottled drinks which complimented nicely. Our total was about $25 but I left with my Mexican fix unanswered. So I guess I am still looking for a closer Mexican restaurant to make my regular spot..

Yelp
Do Not Recommend! I've had better food at gas stations. The refried beans were lukewarm. The rice had to have been days old...clumpy and hard. The enchiladas are skimpy. This place is even overpriced for the offering. I left a WHOLE margarita on the table it was so bad! Save your money.

Yelp
I love Mexican food so I'm always down to try a new one! I stumbled across this place because I heard about how authentic the food was and knew it was a family owned restaurant. When I walked in to my surprise it was almost full. I started with chips, cheese dip and salsa and it was delicious. I ordered the beef enchiladas which I devoured and a corona mega because supposedly they are the only restaurant that has them here because they come from Mexico! I will be returning. I loved the food and the atmosphere.

Yelp
I really don't understand people's love for this place? I've been a few times, and their food is stale and flavorless. The servers are incredibly rude and inattentive, and it's way too hot and dark.

Yelp
If you are looking for awesome authentic Mexican food, look no further Mi Barrio is fantastic. I came here with my family for lunch this afternoon. They were on about a 15-30 minute wait. Looking around, I could see that they appeal to a Mexican clientele that can appreciate homemade food. We definitely were not disappointed. It was really busy, but, our server (Alisa) was so kind and took the time to tell me about her family's restaurant and how they make all the food and tortillas in house. She even let the kids have a Mexican candy when we leaving. We were beyond impressed with the food and service. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Best chips + salsa and best customer service in the city of Atlanta. I take so many friends here whenever I get the opportunity. Great food. Great margaritas. Even better service. Everytime i walk on the restaurant I have a smile on my face.
