"The Monkey Bar at Mi Cocina, Park Cities. Mi Cocina is a Tex Mex institution in the Dallas area. The Mi Cocina in the Highland Park Village is (by far) the most successful location of the franchise. It's great, don't get me wrong, but should you find yourself there, take my advice and carve through the action downstairs and head straight up to the Monkey Bar (located on the 3rd Floor). It's a chill, quaint little spot. An exhale from the Grand Central of pretty people just below. It's a really cool happy hour or evening perch, with friendly service, inviting decor and great light. Go here for a Tecate or Mambo Taxi margarita (watch out) and some Nachos Locos."

The Tex-Mex Chain That Fills a Queso-Sized Hole in My Heart | Bon Appétit

"There is no place that defines 'neighborhood spot' more than Mi Cocina. It’s the most beloved Tex-Mex restaurant in Dallas—the place you can visit multiple times a week and never grow tired of the food, which is solid, affordable, and decidedly un-precious." - ByPriya Krishna

We had a reservation for 9 around 3 p.m. The place was serene and beautiful. It did not take long for us to be seated. We had two waiters, who were both courteous, friendly, and very attentive to our needs. One waiter, Mr. Alfredo Aguilar, even took several pictures for us with all our family members as we were celebrating a special birthday. After being served delicious salsa and chips, we ordered a diverse number of dishes: Fajitas, brisket tacos, poblano chicken enchiladas, rib eye steak, and mambo taxi drinks. Everything was delicious.

Love, love, love this place! I’ve been going to Mi Cocina for years, and I can honestly say the food is always fantastic. The Mambo Taxis are amazing and pair perfectly with any dish. I have to mention that my server, Geo, is always on point—engaging, attentive, and full of energy. It’s that kind of service that makes the whole dining experience so enjoyable and keeps me coming back. I recommend him to my friends, family, and even complete strangers. If you want to experience great service from the hosts, servers, and managers, I highly suggest visiting the Highland Park Mi Cocina location.

Order the brisket tacos and mambo taxi! One of my favorite Tex-Mex places in Dallas. Don’t know why everyone always bashes this place, bc it’s always good vibes and good drinks!

Mi Cocina in Highland Park Village feels like my favorite pair of house shoes. They’re comfortable, always feel good, and I know what to expect. Mi Co is the same. The food, service, and atmosphere are consistently good. I know what I’m going to experience. But I wonder if some sort of refresh is in order for it to become consistently great. I’ll order another Mambo Taxi and update this review when I come up with something!

It was my first time at Mi Cocina and our server JJ was so nice and welcoming. Geo and Julie also approached us and were jusr as welcoming. My meal was delicious and the ambiance made it even greater. Thank you! I will definitely be coming again when I visit Texas again :)

Ate outside on a gorgeous night. I had the house margarita. Its got a good serving of tequila. And the Rico salad, very fresh. The hubby had the grouper with ranchers sauce. Very reasonable prices. Attentive wait staff and manager. I prefer thin chips but complimentary chips and salsa also very good.

It had been years since my last visit to Mi Cocina in Highland Park, and I’m happy to report that it’s just as wonderful—if not better—than I remembered. The service was as impeccable as ever, the atmosphere warm and inviting, and the staff went above and beyond to make our experience special. Due to gluten intolerance and strict dietary needs, I rarely eat out. But Mi Cocina made me feel completely at ease. One of our servers—whose name we unfortunately didn’t catch—was incredibly attentive and helpful, and he kindly recommended a simple grilled chicken breast with plain rice and salad to meet my dietary needs. It was exactly what I needed—clean, fresh, and satisfying. He also explained that while Mi Cocina is gluten-free friendly, there is a possibility of cross-contact, which I deeply appreciated for its honesty and care. Our other server, Alfredo Aguilar, was also warm, attentive, and professional, helping make the entire dining experience smooth and enjoyable. The hostess greeted us with a friendly smile and set the perfect tone for our evening. We were a party of nine celebrating my nephew’s birthday, and he was thrilled with his favorite ribeye. The Mambo Taxis were also a hit with the birthday boy! We chose a less busy time to dine so we could enjoy each other’s company with fewer distractions, and it made for a truly relaxed and memorable afternoon. The only downside was the construction in the parking lot, but honestly—it was well worth it. From the food to the service to the atmosphere, Mi Cocina Highland Park delivered a truly wonderful experience. I have so many fond memories of past visits, and after this one, I look forward to making many more.

Google
Our recent visit to Mi Cocina in Dallas was a bit of a letdown, landing squarely at a 3 out of 5 experience. The restaurant came highly recommended by friends and locals alike, which had us excited to try it out. However, after dining there, we couldn’t help but wonder if the glowing reviews meant Dallas might not have a strong Mexican food scene to boast about. The atmosphere was lively and the service was friendly enough, but the food itself didn’t live up to the hype, leaving us questioning whether this was the best the city had to offer in terms of Mexican cuisine. The cheese enchiladas were a particular disappointment—somehow, they managed to sneak meat into what we assumed would be a vegetarian dish, which threw us off entirely. Meanwhile, the chicken fajitas were dry and lackluster, lacking that juicy, flavorful punch we’d hoped for. Perhaps the biggest telltale sign of the meal’s mediocrity was the chips—usually a reliable indicator of a good Mexican restaurant. They tasted suspiciously store-bought, lacking the fresh, crispy magic you’d expect from a place with such a solid reputation. All in all, it wasn’t a terrible meal, but it certainly didn’t convince us that Mi Cocina—or Dallas Mexican food in general—was anything to write home about.

Yelp
Sonny was great. Food was out quick and she treat me super nice. The restaurant made to look after me. Area super clean

Yelp
We enjoy eating at MiCocina Dallas McKinney Ave location 1-2 times a week. What keeps us coming back? Great service and great food. Last week, we met one of the team's new servers, Joel - he did an amazing job making us feel welcome, especially with our particular requests. Every time we come, Daniel, Justina, Ali, Victoria, Jesus, the front desk team, and managers Manuel and Chuy ensure we have a great experience.

Yelp
We have become semi-regulars of this Mi Cocina recently, after a very long hiatus. It's a nice option to Mariano's which is more expensive and much busier. We can count on getting a table with no problem here. The food at this Mi Cocina is consistently good. Almost everything we have tried has been really good, although the beef fajita is not as tender as at Mariano's. I have tried several dished in the past few months and my favorites are the Chimichanga and Nachos Locos. The double barrel margaritas are really good too. The wife likes the brisket tacos and the side of guac. We went with my mom for dinner last week and she ordered the shrimp. Oh my goodness, it really smelled. I was not sure it was safe to eat but she ate it and said it was fine. It smelled so strong that I would not have eaten it, so beware of that. The outside patio is great for the spring and fall. Service is consistently polite and efficient. I am giving it 4 stars because of the iffy shrimp but otherwise this restaurant is very good and we enjoy it.

Yelp
Such a great location. Christmas lights in The Village are beautiful. I had the chicken enchiladas with sunset sauce. Definitely recommend you get a side of this regardless of what you order. It's great. Has some nice heat. If you like caramelized onions they cook them perfectly. My wife who is Ms Particular definitely endorsed the caramelized onions. Be on the lookout for rookie servers. Good news is the managers are there to back up when needed. Check out the Monkey Bar upstairs as well!

Yelp
My service was great and the food was good! Incredibly busy due to the holidays but would definitely go more often. Lots of high end shopping surrounding you as well. The upstairs bar was a good hideaway too! Check it out for yourself and you be the judge!

Yelp
Entertaining my family from Louisiana for Christmas. We had a lovely dinner before our carriage ride. Mi Cocina never disappoints.

Yelp
Customer service was great and food was too. Michelle is very nice and attentive. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
One of the worst restaurant experiences that I've ever had. I've been to multiple Mi Cocina Locations in the DFW area that are GREAT, but this one is by far the worst. The manager was very rude, wait staff not consistent, overall very bad experience. Would not recommend for anyone.

Yelp
BRANDON IS THE BEST WAITER EVERRRRRRR! 5 stars My friends and I, all servers ourselves, decided to head over to Mi-Co to relax and grab some drinks after our shift. Let me tell you--it's always nice to experience restaurant service from the other side, but having Brandon as our waiter was an absolute highlight. He was so attentive, meeting our needs before we even had to articulate them. It's clear he has a great skill in reading his guests and matching their energy. A huge thank you to Brandon for the exceptional care!

Jake A.

Yelp
Used to love it. The restaurant has improved and I will say it's a solid 4/5 if you enjoy Tex Mex. However, I am giving it a 2/5 due to monkey bar (their rooftop bar). I went there last night, and my friend was refused service because she "has a drunk face". We had just gotten there after dinner and were both sober. I was honestly in dismay at the bartenders comment. I had another experience with him before where he had cut me off at 3 drinks, even though I was still very, very coherent. But I shrugged it off and went to Lounge 31 instead, which is directly across from monkey bar. The reason I am updating this review is solely because of the comment made to my friend. Absolutely not acceptable to tell people they have a "drunk face", especially considering she was fully sober at the time.

Yelp
For what it is, Mi Cocina is just all right. Nothing stands out either good or bad. All of the food is as expected. The portions are a bit smaller than they appear. Flavoring on the protein is generally good, but not exceptional. There seems to be a lack of a little authentic Mexican spice. Our waitress was good, but one little hangup I have is her wearing an earbud while serving us. Overall, it was a nice meal, and a very beautiful area.

Yelp
Always so good!!!! Drinks and Food as well as the Service are all amazing. Stephen H is the best very personable, attentive and accommodating. (Helped me to get my Nachos and Dilemma just right always ) One of my favorite lunch spots especially when patio seating is available

Yelp
We had family come up from out of town and their daughter wanted to eat somewhere in an uppity area and what better place than the Highland Park area. It was a Friday night and this place was super packed, plus it was the Texas/OU weekend. They said the wait was about an hour, but actually it was more like 30 minutes or so, just enough time to slam down a margarita, ;) We were a party of 8, so that wait wasn't that bad. The service was great, the food was also great and the drinks were strong. This place gets SUPER loud as well. We had a blast. *** They don't take reservations btw.
google avatar

Fenise P.

Yelp
The is one of my go to locations! Evenings and weekends are crazy to park but the service here is worth the crazy parking lot. The food never disappoints, the atmosphere is very comfy, music wasn't too loud, the table decent size compared to other restaurants. The only thing I would change is giving a little more space between these tables, not sure how 2 tables of 4 would sit next to each other as the 2 people back to back would be touching. But thankfully we go durning non peak hours and haven't had an issue. If you are ever in this part of town stop by, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
I came here last night with my sister for dinner. It was a Wednesday night and we got there around 8:30 pm. It was still very busy, but we got seated with no wait and were served quickly. I got the tacos and my sister got the enchiladas. Overall the inside was pretty and had good music playing and it wasn't too noisy. The food was good and I'd come back again for the good prices.

Yelp
The food was so good and the food was well done and all of the waiters were So kind and they assist you so fast really good place and the place was so clean and all of the bathrooms to and the food was so spot on it was all just amazing
google avatar

Mia M.

Yelp
when you go to Mi Cocina, you have to accept that you're getting subpar food in exchange for amazing drinks. The Mambo Taxi is a classic and definitely a must-try. The food on the other hand, was flavorless and cold, and I honestly felt like it was just a step-up from a fast-food chain. The service was amazing but I think the kitchen and menu need a complete overhaul. With the abundance of food options like this in the Dallas area, I'd definitely think twice about coming back here!
google avatar

Kayla J.

Yelp
Enchiladas Poblano are *chef's kiss*!!! My family took me here since I was visiting from out of town and our service was great.

Makayla D.

Yelp
Our server was unkind and inattentive to our table. We had to ask other servers multiple times for things that we needed (water, chips, messed up or missing food, etc.). She was warm and chatty with other tables and servers in our vicinity, yet denied us any sense of that from the moment we sat down. At the end she merely slid the check to us without saying anything and moved to chat with the table across from ours. Will not be returning.
google avatar

Alex R.

Yelp
The food and drinks were amazing. Service was top tier. I couldn't get a picture of my food because they looked so delicious I couldn't wait to dive in. 10/10

Yelp
This is my favorite Mi Cocina spot. It is located in Highland Park village, which is really pretty especially with all the tree lights at night. The restaurant feels like a good mix of special occasion and casual. I think this is the one Tex Mex restaurant where I don't love their fajitas, but they have amazing quesadillas, salsa/guac, and nachos. Their drinks are one of my favorite in Dallas especially the frozen margarita with sangria swirl. They also have the Monkey Bar, which is fun. I will say sometimes the service at the bar can be a little unpleasant, but to be fair, they are probably having to deal with a lot of drunk people in a crowded small spot. The menu up at the Monkey Bar differs from the restaurant's, which is also fun.

Yelp
Always great service, everyone is very attentive and Stephen is very helpful in making sure our order is perfect, he goes above and beyond! Excellent service!
google avatar

Denise A.

Yelp
The food here is good, but the service has declined terribly. The last few times we went for both dine in and take out, we experienced at best below average service. Considering driving further to a different location. Definitely recommend the queso appetizer!

Donna S.

Yelp
Service is impeccable and Hugo was so polite, and went above and beyond to get our order spot on! The best margarita ever!! Thank you Hugo!! Happy v day!

Yelp
We waited 45 minutes for a table, and were given chips and salsa to start. Service was quick but not attentive after they got our food out. We tried getting a server's attention for about 20 minutes after receiving our food because we weren't given any silverware. I ordered the enchilada dinner, one beef and one chicken. The rice and beans were okay and the only edible parts of the meal. The enchiladas tasted stale and the beef and chicken were both extremely dry and flavorless.

Yelp
I recently went to Mi Cocina with my family. There was a thirty minute wait, but my family explored the shops around the area while we waited. When the time came to be seated, I didn't feel the service was spectacular, but I do understand that they had a busy schedule. As far as the food went, I ordered the, "Pauley's". I was quite hungry and was expecting a average dish considering the price ($10.95). The wait was around thirty minutes to get my food which wasn't bad considering I have a big family. I was slightly disappointed in the burritos. It was a small tortilla filled with nothing but dry meat. The rice and beans were okay, but considering the dish was listed as, "two burritos" I expected something a little better. In conclusion, the service was okay and the food was decent. I would revisit in the future, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Maybe I chose the wrong dish, but from my experience it was one of their average dishes that they sold many times before.

Yelp
food here is great! sat outside and although that was a personal choice they could get misters or fans to make it a little better perhaps. but mi cocina is always a good time the food is good and so is the service so i'll keep coming back for sure

Yelp
Great services and the treat everyone with kindness love to come and eat here best food ever

Yelp
Amazing experience every time! The food is always fresh and hot and service is always great. There's typically a small wait to be seated, but usually get seated quicker than predicted. My favorite Mi Cocina location in Dallas!

Yelp
"The chips are great. They are crunchy and have an incredible flavor. I love them to snack on before a meal. They are the best!"
google avatar

Demetrios L.

Yelp
The food, service, and ambience were all fantastic. The services provided by the professional management and staff are the main reasons that we keep coming back. The old world elegance is a rare thing, and we value their focus to make sure that everything about the dining experience is excellent. I highly recomend this restaurant.

Yelp
Food was average. We didn't finish our dish (chicken fajitas). But worst: bartender was a power hungry guy (JP, I think was his name). For some random reason, he wound up not liking me and decided to tell me I couldn't have more drinks. He'd said that they have a 3-drink minimum, but the 3 people next to us were drinking up a storm-- shots coupled with lots of drinks. I was blindside. Even my friend and the woman we were talking to said, "what happened? I don't get it!" I actually thought he was joking because he said his manager would watch and so since I'd had 3 drinks (in two hours), he would get in trouble. I thought he was joking, so I had my buddy order a drink and, when the bartender walked away, I poured some of the drink into my cup. He saw that, came back, and poured out all everything. I gotta say, in 20 years of going to restaurants and bars, this is a first. Then, when I disagreed, the bartender said, "fuck you." lol!! I couldn't believe it. Also, the first time I've left a zero tip. Gotta say, power hungry bartender are a turnoff. Honestly, I hate to leave a negative review and I may remove this post. It's a bummer - like getting a speeding ticket for going 5 miles over the speed limit.

Yelp
Hung out at the new monkey bar upstairs and it was fun! Service was awesome and they make almost any drink you want. I really liked the jugos served with topo and your choice of tequila or mezcal. Super yummy. Their nachos were one of my favorite apps as they are almost individually made chips! No problem of not enough meat or cheese since each one was prepared. Super good portions of meat on each as well - seemed like their fajita quality meat. The rooftop itself is super nice and the patio has a nice ambiance as well.
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
Honestly I move Mi Cocina. Its affordable, they have a great menu, and the staff is awesome. They usually get you in and out in a reasonable time. The menu is extremely affordable. I usually try different enchiladas & get the mambo taxi! Must go
google avatar

Ameil S.

Yelp
See Lio! The best waiter on the team..... his service is impeccable. We sat on the patio so I can tell you about the ambiance of the place. The food was good - we had the mambo taxi margarita- highly recommended and the nacho Al cabone was yummy! It's a nice vibe sitting outside- go and enjoy!

Yelp
Found onYelp while visiting for work. There was a closer location but I guess I picked the wrong one on my Ride share. Happy accident. Beautiful location with a great vibe. Incredible service. Lots of energy and fun atmosphere. Friendly staff and patrons. Wonderful food and drinks. Clarissa, at the bar, helped me pick my meal. Although she was so busy, she gave personal attention to each guest.

Yelp
Great food and a lot of options especially if you have vegan/vegetarian friends in your party. The drinks were amazing too!
google avatar

Clara S.

Yelp
This was our first stop for lunch upon arriving in Dallas for the weekend- so many people raved about the food here! The chips and guac weren't my favorite (chunkier avocado pieces for those who like that) and was kind of bland, but the salsa was tasty. The skinny margarita was also difficult to drink, but my Rico salad with shrimp was delicious. Service was great and quick too. Overall a great bumpin restaurant for any meal!

Yelp
Miguel was a awesome server . I had the sunset enchiladas... Omg they were sooo good . I would definitely recommend this place to anyone as well as requesting the server Miguel. He answered all my questions I had about the food and drinks. He was very experienced and fast . Thank you for such great customer service. I will continue to keep coming back because of you.

Bill B.

Yelp
2.5 stars really. The chips were stale and the queso was pretty gross. The margaritas were pretty watered down. Our server was friendly. The guac and quesadillas were good. Group also hated one of their enchilada orders. This place has gone down hill, only gets a good rep being in HP Village.
google avatar

Zach H.

Yelp
8.1/10 We ordered the 50/50 shrimp and chicken fajitas Sunset Style: Sunset sauce, rice, and crispy-fried onions and it was great! Mambo Taxi's are always great and super strong! Been here multiple times and this is what I would order when I go back! Other food seemed meh but liked this meal!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! This place is amazing. Bryan, our waiter was fantastic! Asada Tacos we're amazing! Salsa....margs....all the way around. I will be back soon!

Yelp
Our server, who I'm embarrassed I can't remember his name, from Mexico, super nice guy, he and my husband hit it off and spoke Spanish with each other for about 20 minutes. He was so generous and kept bringing me the most delicious Paloma's. Food was also very good, I had shrimp tacos, as did my husband. The interior is also very well done. Beautiful Mexican architecture and well-designed.

JAy2who2 ..

Yelp
So. Last visit I was tempted to leave a negative review but didn't as I thought the issues were a "one off". Today from walking in the door, rude hostess, overwhelmed frustrated bartender. After waiting over an hour to be seated the party behind us slips the hostess $20. And out "table" is gone and we awaiting again. The hostess, overwhelmed and rude said it didn't happen. Lies. Needless to say we were not the only unhappy people at Mi Cocina tonight.

Raquel C.

Yelp
Came here last week for dinner with some friends. They have some of the best texmex food in the dfw area. I would recommend anyone to go. They also have a bar upstairs in case you just want to hang out for a few drinks. They have a good atmosphere overall

Tally B.

Yelp
Stephanie was the best waitress! She asked us multiple times for water refills and was so sweet when we were ordering! BEST WAITER EVER!!!

Yelp
Enjoyed dinner at Mi Cocina in Highland Park Village! The service was great and we enjoyed sitting on their quieter second floor facing the front with a great view of the beautiful shops. The food was great and we enjoyed their chips and salsa. They offer many different options of beverages including delicious margaritas both frozen and on the rocks. I enjoyed a frozen margarita with the huevos rancheros for dinner. All served hot, fresh and fast! Love the Monkey Bar on the third floor which offers a fun vibe and lively atmosphere with covered patio seating! A cool place to see and be seen and feels like a cozy tree house vibe.
google avatar

Amber W.

Yelp
Mi cocina is a highly known spot in the highland park area with dining and a bar. Although you think it only has one bar if you go up to the 3rd floor there is a "hidden bar" called monkey bar. The workers such as Bianca, Chris, Daniel, and David are some of the most hardworking courteous people and will help you get the drink you love!! From the manager John and Brenda to the workers everyone takes such good care of us every time we go in and makes sure to treat us like family. We enjoy the atmosphere and the food menu is different from downstairs so it gives you a whole new feel. Mike and Amberley will always be a customer!!!
