This Nearly 20-Year-Old Mexican Restaurant Now Hosts A Buzzy Bakery’s Pop-Up | Eater Portland

"Launched as a permanent weekend morning pop-up in late May inside the cantina’s space, this family-run café is operated by members of the Azcorra family who have long ties to the local Mexican food scene. Open Friday–Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the menu highlights traditional breakfast dishes — menudo, chilaquiles, milanesa — plus a $10 bombazo on a sourdough English muffin stuffed with bacon, baked eggs, avocado, tomato, Swiss and cheddar, and a homestyle arroz con leche from the family cookbook; coffee is supplied by local Mexico City–born roaster Adriana Lopez’s Tostado Coffee. Brothers split front- and back-of-house duties, patriarch Gabriel (“Papa Gabe”) brings family breakfast recipes to the grill, and the café plans to add bloody marys, mimosas, micheladas and other brunch cocktails once the liquor license is approved." - Paolo Bicchieri

Stopped in here for a Sunday breakfast around 11am. While it was busy there was no wait for our party of two. We have been to this location in evenings (Que Pasa) but this was our first trip to Mi Familia Cafe. Started with the Cafe de Olla - my first time have this delicious coffee. The level of spice was superb with steamed milk of choice (mine was oat). They were able to bring me an extra side black coffee to adjust the sweetness after the coffee is pressed. I had the Chemo’s Torta for breakfast- a riff on a Cubano sandwich and some battered fries. Served hot - the sandwich was the right amount of savory , smoky meats with pickled red onions and mustardy tang. Staff was friendly and checked on us frequently. 100% would recommend.

First time visiting this café, and I absolutely loved it! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the wall art made it feel like home. Staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. We ordered the chilaquiles divorciados, and they were incredible. I also got to try the French toast, torta de chemo, and panuchos, everything was cooked to perfection. Don’t miss the café de olla with cinnamon and piloncillo, it’s the perfect drink for the fall weather. Can’t wait to come back and try more!

Stopped here for a quick breakfast! The food is good, well priced and delicious. We got 2 breakfast burritos and they were delicious. The restaurant was able accommodate our dietary restrictions as well, and the staff was very friendly and nice.

I had the Chilequiles and it was SO delicious! Everything was great-the service, atmosphere, timeliness, and it was reasonably priced. Only thing missing was a mimosa, but their liquor license is pending. I can't wait to try the other offerings!

Delicious delicious food! I got the burrito mañanero with ham, and it was very tasty. Service was great, super fast and friendly. El cafe de olla had the perfect taste too. I can’t wait to go back and try more food. I would definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
Wow, so happy we found this place! Started with the Cafe de Olla which is a French press with cinnamon & piloncillo + Kahlua (& a little steamed oat milk) - delicious! I had the Chilaquiles Divorciados & my hubs had the Milanese del Patron. Both were excellent! I loved the spice level of the Chilaquiles - perfect! So many great options & I look forward to trying more in the future. Outdoor seating is covered & enclosed, with plenty of heaters. Cheerful-looking spot & super nice people working there. Check it out!

Yelp
We stayed a few blocks away on a trip to Portland and stopped by here for Sunday brunch. The Panuchos and Chilaquiles were fantastic. As well as the treats from a local bakery. Service was excellent as well. Would highly recommend.
