Very well maintained restaurant that is inviting and well maintained. The tables are a little close to one another and if one person at one of the tables has a chair pushed out too much, you may find it difficult to squeeze through.
The staff was excellent! From the initial greeting to the final check payment, everyone was kind, courteous, helpful, and friendly.
The options for plates was great. I decided on three tamales. 1 veggie, 1 jalapeno and cheese, and 1 strawberry. The plate came with beans and rice. When the plate arrived, it looked excellent and smelled delicious! Sadly, I went to eat the veggie tamal and it was mostly masa. It had a good flavor, but it was just too much masa. The jalapeno and cheese was no different. There was way too much masa and not much filling at all. It was like a tamal made of nothing but masa and a little cheese on the corn husk. But let me tell you, the masa was delicious, so the spicing and flavoring of the masa is superb! The strawberry tamal was different. It was evenly spread throughout the masa d almost had a jelly-like consistency for the masa. Overall the flavors were good, even if they didn't have much filling.
The star of the plate for me was the barracho beans!! I've never had beans that tadted this good. It wasn't too salty nor filled with the overwhelming flavor of cumin. It was gently feathered in with the rest of the flavors, but it wasn't the main focus of the spices. Excellent beans!!
Definitely, you should try this place. They are worth your time. My only suggestion to the chefs are to be a bit more generous with the fillings for the veggie and j&c tamales.
