5 Great Sandwiches On The Lower East Side

"If you’re looking to try a newer Cubano contender in the neighborhood, check out Mi Salsa Kitchen. Their roll isn’t quite as crusty as Cibao’s, but the pork shoulder is just as tender and stringy and tastes great in the mess of pickles and thinly sliced ham. I know my colleagues down at Infatuation Miami might give me a hard time for this, but the Cubano is only improved with a dip or dollop of some of Mi Salsa’s other sauces - specifically the chimichurri or the mojo pickled onion-loaded criollo." - carlo mantuano

Came for lunch on a Friday afternoon. It was pretty empty so the food came out quick. Cute Cuban spot. The prices were very fair for the amount of food you got and everything was pretty good. I’d recommend!

We arrived on Saturday at around 10pm for drinks, and was pleasantly surprised by the fun vibes. There was Latin music playing and some couples dancing incredibly well in the middle of the floor. We ordered two cocktails - Papa Doble $18 (classic and strong) and Mango Margherita $16 (sweet and strong). On Saturday night, the crowd was filled with locals in their 30s, 40s, 50s, different from the other bars nearby which have a younger audience.

Since stepping through the doors on June 7th for my first rumba, Mi Salsa Kitchen has been the spot for my Wednesday evenings. I go for the music, the people, the vibes. Run by a Cuban couple, and with a strong Cuban community in collaboration, this feels straight off the island. A cast of characters, a delicious menu, and drinks to top it off. Thank you Maritza for curating and holding a space for la comunidad Cubana y internacional de la rumba y la música… que es tan necesario y mágico en estos tiempos en la vida! Aquiiii Entreeee Las Floo oooo ooooress!

Despite being a smaller dining room, I think it’s exactly that which creates the cozy and quaint atmosphere of Mi Salsa Kitchen. With its vibrant colors, tropical flairs, mosaics, tile work, rustic touches and cultural imagery, you definitely feel the deep Cuban heritage and history within the space. Aside from the welcoming energy of Mi Salsa Kitchen, their food is great! We started off with Yuca for the table and it was crispy on the outside but nice and soft on the inside. The sauce paired with the yuca had stronger notes of Mayo and a smoky flavor to it, which wasn’t my favorite, but could be interesting for others. Their chips and guacamole was also a nice addition to the table. This time around I ordered their steak tacos and they were the best tacos I’ve had in a while. The steak was juicy and seasoned nicely. The tacos were topped with crispy shallots which I’ve never seen done at any other locations and it really brings the dish to the next level with their extra crunch. The avacado crema that comes with the tacos is both amazing and refreshing with some good heat. You can’t go wrong with their rice and beans, rice is not dry nor soggy, but just where you want it. The black beans were flavorful. I typically opt for their coconut mojito which is always nice. I’ve come here once before on a Friday night and they had live music which was a nice intimate experience. Being it’s smaller inside it does get a little bit more packed at night but it’s worth it. Overall, I always recommend this spot. Shoutout to staff who are nothing but friendly each time!

Love everything about this place. The vibe, the view, the location. The tacos were amazing, I got pork my boyfriend got shrimp. We each tried each others to make sure they both tasted great 👍 we got the lunch special which comes with sangria for only $3, instead of $12. All around amazing place to pop in if you're in the area.

Tried their chicken and beef empanadas. The chicken could have been more flavorful, but the beef was juicy and greasy (in a good way 😂) and flavorful. The servers were a bit quiet when buying, which made the experience slightly awkward.

Finally! AUTHENTIC CUBAN FOOD! I’ve been to many restaurants throughout the city, that claim to be cuban, and as a Cuban myself, I have to say, Mi Salsa Kitchen is the winner! My first sign…. They have Jupina!!!! Wonderfully kind cuban owners, great food, great location! I’ve already been twice in less then a week!

Food here really really good! I love their "vaca frita". From drinks I love the "old cuban". The place is small butit has a great atmosphere and on Wednesdays they usually have this cuban rumba gig which gets really packed and creates very nice vibes.
