I'd definitely categorize this place as more of a Tex-Mex restaurant than an authentic Mexican spot, though I've seen some reviews that say otherwise. When we stopped by on a Friday night it was busy but we were told to seat ourselves. Almost immediately, a server brought over chips and salsa (loved that). The chips were warm and the salsa was really good!
My boyfriend and I both ordered Tommy's Taco Dinner-one with chicken and one with beef. The plate includes three fajita tacos with sauteed onions, jalapeños and chile con queso, along with a side of rice and beans. The beef was definitely better than the chicken, though they were both just ok. The chile con queso had great flavor, but I found the chicken a little bit dry. The rice lacked flavor in my opinion but my boyfriend thought it was fine. The beans were nothing special but they were good.
Service was where things really fell short. Throughout the meal, we needed refills, hot sauce, and extra napkins, but getting our waitress or anyone else to come back to our table was a struggle. When it came time to pay, we had to go up to the counter just to get her attention which was frustrating. Because of that, I'm taking off a star.
Overall, this wasn't my favorite place. After months of driving by, I'm glad I finally tried it and it's clearly a popular spot. The food was decent, but not good enough to make me want to return.
