Handmade noodles & red oil dumplings, modern Sichuan eatery

"Mian is one of many Sichuan spots in Chinatown, but the handmade noodles and comforting peppercorn tingle set it apart. This spot is laid back, if not hands-off because you order everything from your phone. The noodle soups have an ideal beefiness and thick, chewy handmade noodles. The soup and the red oil-drenched dumplings are best paired with a rainy day or any day you feel like pouring your feelings into a giant boil of semi-spicy soup." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas
"Another California import, Mian is one of many Sichuan spots in Chinatown, but the handmade noodles and comforting peppercorn-tingle set it apart. Service is quick, as you order everything from your phone at the table. The beef noodles soups are deeply comforting, as are the red oil drenched dumplings—especially on a rainy day, or any day you feel like pouring your feelings into a giant boil of semi-spicy soup that won’t give you any attitude back. What to order: house beef noodles, chili oil chaoshou dumplings, Chengdu zajiang noodles" - chelsea thomas, gianni greene
"The Chinatown ramen spot NM Noodle is home to some of our favorite ramen in the city. NM Noodle feels laid-back, with a few intricate light fixtures, spacious wooden booths, and a focus on ramen. Bowls of tonkotsu come zipping to the table as if there’s no place they would rather be. The best iteration of these are the hokkaido tsukemen, with a rich pork and fish broth, seasoned slices of bamboo, and soft-boiled egg. Sit in one of the wooden dividers, slurp unabashedly, and be sure to order the extra broth. And if you have a need for heat, the curry tonkotsu will clear away your worries and your sinuses. Add as much menma, sweet corn, or extra noodles that you want on the side, and remember that a little pain is worth the price of the ramen." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas
"Another California import, Mian is one of many Sichuan spots in Chinatown, but the handmade noodles and comforting peppercorn-tingle set it apart. Although the cafe feels modern with wallpaper murals and funky lamps, the overall vibe is laid back, if not hands-off, mostly because you order everything from your phone at the table. Mian’s noodle soups have a textbook beefiness and thick, chewy handmade noodles meant for slurping. "I noted Mian as one of a crop of restaurants that has recently opened or reopened in West Adams amid the neighborhood's redevelopment." - Mona Holmes
