Mian is a sleek minimalist haven for Chongqing cuisine, serving up delectable, spice-forward noodle dishes that consistently impress diners.
"Dish: House Beef Noodles Mian is a noodle shop from the chef behind Chengdu Taste, and that fact alone gets our attention. But more importantly, Mian lives up to expectations. The Chongqing-style noodles they serve are fantastic and chewy, with a spiciness that creeps up on you. We could point to numerous outstanding dishes on the menu here, but it’s the house beef noodle soup that remains the star of the show for us. Tender strips of beef submerged in a broth so spicy and flavorful, you’ll wonder if you can just order it as its own side. We haven’t asked yet, but honestly, it’s worth a shot. Order a plate of peppery pork dumplings to round out your meal." - brant cox, kat hong, nikko duren, sylvio martins
"In addition to an order Mian’s exceedingly spicy Sichuan-style noodles, add on a serving of the boiled chao shou dumplings. The herby chile oil with a healthy punch of ma la takes the already-solid wontons to the next level." - Mona Holmes, Eater Staff
"Sitting in an infrared sauna with a jug of water is one of the best ways to detox after a night of drinking, but sometimes we don’t have access to said sauna. Instead, we go for spicy noodle soup: an equally sweat-inducing form of therapy. The soups at Mian in San Gabriel do just the trick and come in varying levels of tingling Sichuan spice. The spicy beef rib noodle is our remedy of choice with its tender meat, perfectly chewy noodles, and crimson red broth that has us sweating out last night’s tequila. Maybe leave an extra t-shirt in the car if things get messy. " - kat hong, brant cox, sylvio martins, garrett snyder
"Brace yourself, Angelenos. Tony Xu (of Chengdu Taste fame) has a veritable hit on his hands with this young'un (and its queues attest to that). The menu is dedicated to noodle soups and a smattering of appetizers, but trust us when we say there is beauty in that restraint. Prepare to dig in to these sinus-clearing broths filled with endless tangles of noodles. The zing of peppercorn and the one-two punch of ma la enhance every dish. Sichuan cold noodles hit the mouth with a sweet heat, while the ziwei beef featuring a red broth flecked with those same peppercorns and chili flakes has a sweet-and-sour bitterness that is positively addictive. One bowl is plenty but order more to allow your palate to oscillate between various tastes." - Michelin Inspector
"Our Favorite Dishes: House Beef Noodles, Zhiang Jian Noodles Mian is a modern noodle place from the chef behind Chengdu Taste, and that fact alone gets our attention. But more importantly: Mian lives up to expectations. The Chongqing-style noodles they serve are fantastic and chewy, with a spiciness that creeps up on you. And we love the mung bean drink they pour for you when you arrive, because the sweetness helps to cool the spice down when you need it. Get a plate of dumplings to start - the pork ones are juicy and peppery - and the zhiang jian noodles with a crispy egg, minced pork, and chickpea-like Chongqing peas are a must-order." - jess basser sanders, amy clark, brant cox, brett keating
