Amazing bakery! The croissants are flaky and crunchy and soft on the inside. Simply irresistible! Easy to miss from the outside. A couple counter seats inside and benches outside. Super delicious though. The plain croissants, chocolate croissants and spicy cheese sticks were our favourites!

We stopped in for breakfast and ordered a Danish cheese and chocolate croissant. They were both airy and flaky and so delicious with just the right amount of filling. The service was fast and friendly and the store was clean. It was a little tight with our stroller, but I would let that stop you. We were able to get in and out pretty easily.

Had no idea this French bakery was in the neighborhood until just recently. When you walk in, you’ll see trays and trays of freshly baked pastries. This time I just tried the croissants. The plain croissants were flaky I have to wear a little more on the salty side rather than the subtle sweetness, you could get from other places. The almond croissant was delicious.

Small bakery but everything is really tasty and fresh. I had plain croissant, chai latte, a cinnamon rugelach and a spinach rugelach. It was super yummy!!!

Let’s be honest here. Micheali Bakery makes delicious baked goods, but the prices are absolutely absurd. You pay $7 - not a typo - $7, for a pastry that’s typically less than 3 inches in diameter. I’m surprised not many of the reviews have commented on the prices. I was astonished to find that the total came to nearly $20 in paying for 2 normal pastries and 2 “mini” pastries. If you are a price conscious customer in this economy, would recommend staying away from here. Perhaps the bakery knows they can charge these prices with the wealthier UES demographic.

Wonderful place! A gem in the city. High quality baked goods. I very much enjoy savory pastries so feta and cheese roll was something else. I came in early enough to get it warm freshly out of the oven. Coffee is great too!

This bakery is on 90th Street, just off of 1st Avenue. There is a blackboard outside with the bakery's name on the sidewalk. It is a very popular bakery, and is open every day except on Saturdays. I tried their cherry-pistachio croissant which I felt had little flavor of those two ingredients. Its main flavor, I felt, was that of sugar. It was good, but I expected to taste more cherries, and recognize its flavor of pistachio when I ate it, which I did not. This review's three star food rating is based on that croissant only.

Made it far enough east that I got to try this place. It was definitely worth it. Now I know why my coworkers rave about it and those I brought treats back for loved it too! I tried 2 of their top 5, the pistachio cherry croissant and the rocher cookie, and the Nutella cookie. I bought the Nutella cookie mainly because it's a gluten free option. I'm not a huge Nutella fan yet I really enjoyed this cookie. I also would normally start away from cherry flavored sweets but I couldn't resist the pistachio cherry croissant. There wasn't a lot of cherry so it too was perfect! The bakery is very long and narrow but they do have some stools along the window if you wanted to sit there.

All of the pastries looked beautiful and there were some really interesting ones, like the halvah rugelah. It was totally delicious! Perfectly crisp pastry and sweet, nutty filling. The coffee, on the other hand, was pretty awful. I was given almond milk instead of oat milk in my latte and it was burned pretty bad, so a real waste of a cup of coffee....

Incredible bakery in the UES! I tried the pistachio cherry croissant and I haven't been able to stop thinking of it all day! I can't wait to try more of their items soon - the babka looks incredible.

I got the halva and chocolate rugalach, and both were good although I wish the halva one had more halva in it. I had my eye on the halva croissant but they weren't making it today (Sunday) for whatever reason. I'll have to come back.

Just got my sufganiyot here and they're very tasty. Also picked up a cinnamon babka which is very good. My favorite item is the cinnamon rugelach. Everything is made fresh daily and service is quick and kind.

I wanted to update after going here to pick up treats regularly. Their burekas and ragalachs are putting a dent in my wallet and adding inches to my waistline. But, oh my, so worth it. We usually get a combination of mushroom and feta burekas and chocolate, cinnamon and Hawaiian raglachs. Simply delicious. There is usually a line in the weekends but it moves fairly quickly.

Heard their savory pastries are available on Sundays only. Made my way here on a Sunday afternoon and was worried things would be sold out. They still had a number of pastries available- both sweet and savory. I got the Spicy Cheese Stick and Mushroom Bureka. The cheese stick was actually quite spicy. It was crispy on the outside and chewy and fluffy on the inside. Their burekas are larger than normal. It was the perfect snack.

I literally travel the world and constantly look for the best baked goods. I was walking around NYC when I spotted the pastries inside. I could mot keep walking.... My daughter and I went in just to grab a few things to bring back to Denver with us. I only got 2 pastries, and 2 cookies and it was the biggest mistake. I truly believe this is my new favorite bakery. Everything was incredible (Nutella cookie, Rocher, Pistachio and Cherry and Halva croissant) The staff was so kind, gave me their honest feedback on what I should get but I wish they told me one of everything. The choices are unique and the level of perfection is unmatched. I'm planning how I can get my hands on more ASAP! I'd do anything for a shipping option (please please) Thank you Michaeli!

Michaeli Bakery is so good! It's clean with friendly employees. They open early and I always get a seat. The food is so delicious I can't put it into words. I'm highly recommending!

As always they produce some of the most delicious pastries in the area. Baked fresh every day. Nice variety of donuts when I dropped in today and the coffee is also tasty. Great way to start off a cold rainy Sunday morning.

OMG Instagram didn't lie! All this place needs is a few tables outside and it would be perfect! The pastries are unique and delicious. The staff is really friendly and the bakery is super clean. We had the pistachio cherry croissant and the poppy hazelnut croissant. Both were amazing. The coffees were also very good. We will be coming back to sample more of Michaeli's treats.

Very delicious baked goods! I like the burekas - cheese, potato. One of the best, if not the best. The pastry is light and fluffy. It's so good, can't just eat one. They also have the best babka. Seasonally, amazing strawberry sufganiyot (donuts). The staff are very friendly. This location on E90th St and 1st Ave has a ledge table against the windows and there are a few chairs to sit and eat by the windows. Closed on Saturdays. They also have a location downtown on Division St.

There isn't a sign for this place but I'm sure glad we stopped by. I tried the almond croissant and it might be the best one I've had in NY. I didn't want to share it with my nieces. It was that good lol. I'll be back to try more deliciousness.

My go to are the burekas. They have so many different flavors - cheese, potato, spinach, pizza, etc. they pastry is crunchy and flaky. The filling very moist and savory. Yummy. The only downside is that they are a little pricey. All around around $3-$4. I am not much of a sweets person, but I can't help myself from devouring any of the sweet pastries my husband gets. Almond croissant is on point! Rugelach has perfectly made flavors. Definitely a highlight in the neighborhood. They don't have much seating, so more of a to go place.

love this bakery on the ues - we tried the pistachio croissant, spicy cheese stick, spinach feta bureka, and apple turnover. the pistachio croissant was super unique and the spicy cheese stick was also a fave. got a latte as well which was okay def stick to the pastries. it was pretty quick and quiet when we came around 11am on a weekday. the inside was small but clean and cozy would definitely come back to try more.

Michaeli Bakery has some of the best babka I've had in a while in addition to, of course, Bread's Bakery. The babka is great, reasonably priced, and very tasty. Their burekas are great too, a little bit on the pricier end but worth every penny. The spinach and feta bureka is especially great and had the right amounts of both spinach and feta. All in all, I can see why Michaeli Bakery has I believe 2 successful locations and more to come!

I personally am not a big fan of the dried spice flavor, but the savory pastries (Sunday only) offer a great texture between the cheese and the flaky dough.

Good babka. The chocolate is great and I like the proportions of chocolate to dough. However, this dough tastes to me more like a croissant dough (buttery, flakey, laminated) than a babka - perhaps this is intentional. It's very tasty and good quality but not exactly what I was looking for. Not exactly a traditional babka - just keep that in mind while also knowing this is still a tasty pastry.

By far my favorite bakery on the UES! They have incredible pastries and breads. I've never had anything from them that didn't taste great, but my absolute go-to's are the Almond Croissant and their Challah bread. Their service is always great, too. You can tell they care and their staff is always very helpful. They do sellout of items often, especially on Fridays, so it's worth going earlier if you can.

The bourekas are very very good -- but the cheese danish is divine! A welcome addition to the Upper East Side.

10 stars for this bakery!I recall biking all the way to their LES locations during the pandemic to pick up babka and rugelach and other savory burekas. Ever since I moved to the UES, this bakery has been a staple. Thank you for opening a store merely 5 mins walk from me. I can now savor fresh baked goods in all seasons. All I can tell you is the other chain name pales in comparison. Michaeli's babka is chocolately, soft and buttery, literally melts in your mouth. Only managed one photos as I ate the rest on the way home. Staff is always friendly and a pleasure to interact with. Clean store with tables mounted to the window and they have added outdoor seating. Great way to people watch and devour the pastries.

I'm always searching for new bakeries in the city that will deliver to my office in Rock Center. Adventures of a NY Foodie, an Instagram account/blogger I follow, recommended this Israeli bakery to me. They have two locations; I ordered from the UES via Grub Hub. Prior to placing my order the day of, I corresponded with Melissa from the bakery - she was so helpful in answering my questions about their menu and she also helped ensure that the items I wanted would be available the day of my event. I ordered an assortment of sweet and savory items - burekas, cheesy sticks, cookies, croissants, and babka. Everything was delicious and so fresh. I sampled the Peanut Butter Cookie and the Rocher Cookie and they were both incredible. The spicy cheese stick was also so good - the spiciness gets you at the very end! People raved about the croissants and burekas. I was happy they even have a couple gluten free items. I would definitely ordered baked goods from this establishment again.

Cute hidden grab and go bakery nestled in the Upper East Side! Came at 9am on a Tuesday morning and there was no one. Got a chocolate croissant and latte to go and they were delicious! Only regular, almond and oat milk available. No decaf here! Will have to come back to try more of their beautiful pastries!

Stopped in on a weekend to grab a few treats. The chocolate rugelach and apple and date hamentashen were both great, but the star of the show was the almond croissant. Definitely get one of those! There was a line when I visited around 1 PM, but it moved quickly.

One of the best in the biz, Michaeli just opened their second location, this one on the Upper East Side. Already mostly sold out by noon, you already knew this would be a perfect location. Try any of the croissants or bourekas or babkas, which are all among the best in NYC.

I got their chocolate Nutella babka for the Jewish holidays and it was delicious. They also have this banana walnut croissant and IT WAS SO GOOD! It was expensive (around $6) but as a special treat it was worth it. The women behind the counter were helpful and answered any questions I had about the different offering they have.

One of the best bakeries in NYC. Great variety of sweet as well as savory pastries. We shared the spinach bureka, cheese bureka, chocolate rugelach, halva croissant, and the rocher cookie. Every single item was fantastic and amongst the best that I've had. I appreciated the savory options. Many times we'll go to a bakery and there are so many cookies and croissants. I loved the burekas. Both were flakey and savory. Perfect morning bite alongside a cup of tea (or coffee). Service was quick, patient, and helpful. They have a counter with four seats.

Welcome to the neighborhood Michaeli Bakery! I've visited the bakery twice in the past week and I'm thrilled that it's here. This is also dangerous because this location is pretty convenient for me. I've had baked goods from their LES location and what I tried at their UES location was just as good, if not better! Here's what I've tried so far, in order of my most favorite to least favorite. Feta bureka ($3)- the outside was perfectly flaky and the inside filled with delicious salty feta cheese. I only wished it was much larger! Halvah hamantashen ($3.50)- oh my goodness was this good! At first I wasn't sure how this less traditional flavor would be but I'm a fan. The outside is more like a butter cookie than others that have a more cake like texture. Plum hamantashen ($3.50)- another unique hamantashen done extremely well. This was like a miniature triangle shaped plum galette. It had a few thin slices of plum, a shiny sweet glaze and a powdered sugar dusting. Chocolate rugelach ($2.75)- this reminded me of the rugelach I had in Jerusalem. Very good! The texture isn't like a butter cookie, it's more bread like. Chocolate hamantashen ($3.50)- this was pretty good. It had a rich chocolate flavor. Cheese bureka ($3.50)- this one was larger than the feta bureka and I probably should have eaten this one first. Since I didn't, it was hard not to compare it to the feta one. The filling was creamy and much more mild than the feta bureka. Pizza bureka ($3.50)- an interesting concept for sure! This bureka had a good flaky exterior but I found the tomato and cheese filling to be a little too plain. I think if it was more spiced I would have liked it better. Potato bureka ($3.50)- my least favorite of the bureka I tried, this one was small and I felt the flavor was a little bland compared to the others. I enjoyed the items I tried at Michaeli Bakery! I found it to be expensive so this will be a special occasion treat for me.

Fresh bourekas!!! You can't go wrong.... Salty and flakey. I highly recommend all of them, can't go wrong with either. The almond croissant is amazing! Quick take away and bring home type of bakery.

Perfect almond croissants! Best since Maison Kayser closed. Lightly sweet, buttery. Soft and crunchy in the right places, delicious. Chocolate croissant is good too. Burekas are good too. Their options keep me coming back. Cappuccino was ok. I wish it was served in a slightly bigger cup for what they charge. Will return

This morning I wasn't greeted nor asked what I would like to order. The lady who came in minutes after me was received much differently. I purchased three different burekas. The mushroom one is very salty, in a sort of cream sauce. Hoping the spinach and cheese ones fair better for lunch today. I'm surprised at the reviews complaining of costs, this place seems reasonably priced for the location and fact these are fresh handmade goods. $3-$3.50 for each bureka is reasonable.

I ordered 3 cookies. The chocolate chip was very rich and tasty. I had 2 of the double chocolate type cookies, those were not good to me at all. They were boring and were not a good value. I would definitely go back for the chocolate chip.

Truly delectable Israeli bakery! Pricey, yes, but you get what you pay for in the quality and artistry. Been perusing the menu and the pastry dough is amazing. Flakey, buttery, the fillings range from sweet to savory. The aroma in the shop is intoxicating. So far have tried the apple danish, cheese danish, almond croissant, potato bureka, and spinach bureka. All delicious.

Amazing cookies- try the PB and Chocolate with a coffee or tea on the side. But if you want savory, they have that also.

I popped in here unexpectedly during a Sunday morning stroll and was so pleasantly surprised! Lovely array of pastries; staff was wonderful. One of my favorite almond croissants I've had in the city (and I've had plenty): perfectly flaky, great almond paste that is not overly sweet, and affordable prices. Will definitely be coming back!

"Omg, wow" is really all I have to say. But I'll elaborate because every bite threw me to the moon. The babka? Crispy outside and soft inside. A dream. The rugelach? Buttery, rich and chocolatey, melts on the tongue. The almond croissant blew my Italian ass off the face of the planet. Shame on every other almond croissant I've had, ever. The space is small but bright and clean; service was fast and friendly; prices were fair and worth every cent. I would post photos but I ate literally everything on the walk home. Such a shame, I guess I'll have to go back.

Everything that I have tried is a hit. The spicy cheese sticks, Halvah croissant and the Rugelach are some of the best pastries I have had. The place is a little out of the way but once you try it, you will be back for more. Nice and clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend.

The halva croissants are so good and the burekas are like fluffy savory clouds. I have eaten a spinach bureka for lunch and another pastry for dessert on multiple days and have not gotten tired of it. The staff always greets me and are quick and efficient. This is the sort of place where you walk in intending to order one thing and then they bring out a tray of the fluffiest, powdery strawberry donuts that you have to add. It smells amazing and is always offers amazing treats.

This place is amazing! Everything that I have bought there over the past year has been delicious! Babka, almond croissants and the cookies - all are the best that I have ever had!

So glad I found this place! It's on a side street so it's a bit hidden, but definitely worth seeking out. I was super excited to see that they had multiple vegan options, which is really rare for a non-vegan bakery. Not only did they have multiple vegan pastries, but they were all creative and unique (not the standard banana bread that so many places offer now) which I especially appreciated. I recently brought the vegan chocolate babka and samosa bureka to a picnic with a mix of vegans and non-vegans and everybody loved them- they're both so delicious! The bakery itself felt very clean and you can see into the kitchen where they're making everything, so you know the food is super fresh. Definitely a hidden gem!

I could try to describe the halva croissant to you... but it's better if you just go taste it yourself. Tender, buttery croissant, plus caramelized halva on top, plus the halva filling inside, and... imagine my surprise when I reached into the bag, and found out that the top of this croissant also has chocolate on it? Made it even better. Not too much chocolate to be overpowering. Each bite of this pastry is different, with new textures and flavors each time. Hands down one of the top pastries I've ever had, and trust me, I've had a lot. Besides that, the za'atar swirl with goat cheese and honey is out of this world. So much so, that, I was the next in line, they had just brought out a fresh tray of them, and in two blinks, before I had ordered, the servers had already bagged them up and set them aside? Not sure if they had already been reserved or something, but these things go fast. They also said they were bringing out different pastries at different times of the day. It's been notoriously difficult for me to come here, because their hours are so scarce (8-1) and they're closed on shabbat. It's too bad they don't stay open later, because from what I hear they basically have a cult following.

Not only is the food delicious, but the service inside the bakery is considerate of the purchasers. The staff will take the time to explain each danish carefully. The flavors are chosen with much deliberation. Never miss the pistachio bakery items. I, who don't care for donuts, thoroughly enjoyed the fresh raspberry ones especially prepared for Chanukah. The bakery is designed so that the moment you enter, you know that thought was given to the clean exposed shelving and back room. When the door is open, the most exquisite aromas draws people in, even if just to scope out the items available. If you're not a "sweets" fan, try the savory items.

Very cool bakery which has opened on the upper east side. It's about time as we need a place like this. All the great pastries that we haven't seen the likes of since Glaser's closed. Cheese Danishes, Cinnamon Buns, oh my!!! You just made my day! Now if only we could get you to sell bread!!! We really do need a good bread bakery in the area. Also - the place is not open on Saturdays which is a shame (i think it is for religious reasons) as I really would love to be able to pick up these goodies on a Saturday morning to enjoy! The place is small and they need to figure out their circulation pattern as they've got two doors but only one which is open for some unknown reason. One of those doors should be the entrance and the other one the exit. Hopefully this is in their plans. I really am glad to have this in the neighborhood and I'll definitely be back for more!

The smell is intoxicating when you walk in. The cheese danish are unlike any I've ever had, light, airy and addictive. The babka is delicious as well as the rugelach. You really can't go wrong here. Coffee is top notch as well. Go earlier as thing do tend to sell out. Amazing addition to the neighborhood.

This might be my new favorite bakery in the area. I've tried several of those pastries by now and all of them are delicious. My favorite ones include the cheese danish, cinnamon roll, and rugelach. The savory pastries are delicious as well and I have tried the spicy cheese stick, the mushroom bureka, potato bureka, and the feta bureka. The pastries are great not only fresh, but also after I take them home and reheat them the next day. Plus the staff were very friendly.

This is a cute café and feels like a hidden gem since it's on a less busy street. The pastries are good and quite creative, though sometimes a bit raw inside. The staff varies from adorable to hostile depending on what day you go, which is fine. Coffee is mid but nobody seems to make good coffee anymore, so that's a city-wide trend.
