"At both of Michael McCarty’s restaurants—in Santa Monica and New York—the givens are pretty much the same: Light French seasonal cuisine that’s beautifully presented in a sleek dining room full of splashy flower arrangements and contemporary art. All this makes for a special meal, but it’s the crowd Michael’s draws that rounds out the whole experience. It’s a slice of 90’s New York, with old-school editors, agents, and big names in the business world filling its tables."

This store is a hidden gem! They have everything you could possibly need for crafts, DIY projects, and all kinds of little essentials. A huge selection, great prices, and super friendly staff. It’s the perfect place to get inspired and stock up on creative supplies. Highly recommend for all craft lovers!

This Michael's is fairly well stocked. Everything is slightly pricier than Hobby Lobby, but frequent coupons and discounts help a lot! I would like to see more felt colors and more felt in stock. Many things are sold out frequently, which makes the shopping experience insecure. I would like to see buckets of air-dry white clay, not just bags. Also, the floral section could be more varied and cheaper! I would also like to see acrylic paint fully stocked. They're always low on various paint colors. I would like to see tiny craft scissors, elastic bands of various sizes, more colors of faux fur, more types of plastic mesh, and affordable packing supplies like paper, tape, and bubble wrap. I would like to purchase everything in one place, but the prices are too high at Michael's. The store is pretty neat and tidy, and there are staff to ask. I also like that you can use the bathroom. Thank you for that. Checkout could be a little more personal and friendly. It is not a warm experience to actually shop there. Also, they don't give bags at checkout, which is such a bummer. It may be a small thing, but it really changes the shopping experience and makes the customer feel more appreciated when you get a nice bag for free. I like the order pickup option, but there should be a scan system so it could be noted when the bag is picked up. Hope this constructive feedback helps!

came looking for some specific highlighter. luckily they have it. pretty helpful staff too

Google
Best Michaels in NYC. I go for the yarn selection which is the neatest and biggest out of all the Michaels I’ve been to. Sometimes you have to wait a bit for pick-up, but they still get to you and are kind. Some of the best staff work here and are very helpful. Definitely go here almost every week. No mess, no bad attitudes, great community at this store.

Google
This Michaels is amazing! The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. One staff didn’t know the answer and called another member over to give us an in depth explanation and some tips for the specific yarn we were asking about. The yarn collection is huge! I was struggling to find a specific yarn and all the other Michaels nearby were out, but this one had multiple!

Yelp
Michaels has always been my kids' favorite store, and we visit often to stock up on supplies for our crafts and baking projects especially when we're in the mood to make cupcakes. It's clean, well-stocked, and has everything we need for arts and crafts. While the prices are reasonable, the staff could be friendlier. When I found out they hosted parties, I decided to throw my daughter's 9th birthday there and chose the jewelry-making party package. While the price was fair, the experience didn't meet my expectations. They provided only one bead package for the entire group and didn't supply bowls for the kids to pick their beads, so I had to use the plates I had brought for the party. The room was small, which I understand is why the party was capped at eight children, but the materials provided were subpar. For example, the string wasn't the best quality they offer in the store, and they only had one pair of scissors for the whole group. When I asked for additional supplies, I was told they didn't have any, which was disappointing for a craft store. The party package included drinks, but only sodas were offered. Since my kids don't drink soda, I expected at least an option for water, but there was none. Thankfully, I brought my own juice and water bottles. They also assigned just one staff member to assist, which made it challenging as she had to help each child individually. It would have been much smoother with an extra helper. Overall, while Michaels remains our go-to store for crafting, the party experience left much to be desired. With some improvements , better supplies, more staff support, and a wider selection of drinks--this could be a great option for hosting kids' parties.

Yelp
June 6, 2025 - Vineland, NJ I was with my son while he was shopping for yarn, and I needed to use the restroom which was locked (maybe to prevent bathroom crafting). I went to the cashier and asked her if the restroom was public. She informed me that she would call for someone to go to the back of the store and unlock it for me. The person who unlocked it was a man (can we say uncomfortable?). While i was using the bathroom, someone else was keyed in did what they did and left. Then, the man who let me in, keyed back in and checked to see if anyone was still in the LADIES RESTROOM! HE didn't knock or excuse himself, he just keyed in and checked. I quickly finished and went up to tell the cashier but a gnat was more concerned than she was. I told my son and we left. As soon as we got in our car, I called customer service to file a complaint. NOTHING WAS DONE. Today, June 17, 2025 Natasha called me from customer service and did not leave a clear call back number so I had to look up customer service, call and give my case number and start the quest for Natasha (with no luck). I informed the unknown worker that I will not be leaving a message and my lawyer will be in contact. Within 10 minutes, Natasha calls me back. I informed her that Michael's did/is not taking my complaint/concerns seriously and I gave them a chance...my lawyer will now represent me and my VERY serious complaint/concers. DO BETTER MICHAELS! See you in court!

Yelp
The last few times I went to this store, the shelves weren't exactly full and there weren't too many people around to assist. That seems to be the state of retail nowadays Not particular to this store, but Michaels has discontinued; without replacing, one of their yarns that become a staple in my collection. That alone almost leaves me with no reason to go anymore.

Yelp
I was here searching for picture frames. There was such a large variety of different picture frames, I had a hard time making a decision on which ones to get. The self check-out kiosks allowed me to check out quickly. I was in and out and didn't have to wait for service at check out. Because of the sales going on, I snagged some picture frames for a great price. I just had a hard time using one of scanners around the store because of the odd placement that didn't allow me to fit the object I wanted to scan.

Yelp
I needed to buy supplies for a scrapbook/photo album that I was making for my cousin to celebrate our dual 30th birthdays! I found the cutest stickers that matched the themes of our photos together. Everything was easy to find and there were plenty of decent options. The stickers weren't cheap because overall it cost me about $50 for only around 10-12 sheets, but the quality on most of them was great. The only thing I don't recommend is buying any of the plastic bubble stickers. I bought some plastic bubble dolphin stickers, but they didn't actually stick to the paper so I had to be creative. I really do like this Michaels location and they are the only location in Manhattan. I hope that they stick around because I don't love shopping for art supplies online. It's easier to see everything out there in front of you and they have great options.

Yelp
***Lots of options, Spacious, Self Check-out*** I came here to purchase a particular item. One of the people working there directed me very quickly to what I needed. I appreciated the self check out. It was quick and convenient. Make sure to sign up for their email and text to receive a 25% off for first time purchase

Yelp
Great merchandising & Assortment. Very helpful team, the online pick up staff are always pleasant, unlike Target. Always nice deals & discounts. Get there early.

Yelp
This holiday season, please add Michael's 6th Ave location to your shopping list. Have to give a special thanks to Diamond, Sasha, and Ms. Angela whom are absolutely amazing. These lovely ladies go above and beyond to make sure shoppers are able to find all of the great items in the store. Loved all the amazing pre holiday deals. My visit was a week before the official holiday shopping season. I was able to get a great deal on holiday greeting cards, gift wrap to create magical holiday gifts for friends, colleagues, and family. Thank you Michael's for an extraordinary shopping experience!!!

Yelp
I have been a customer for many years and I expect a lot better from customer service. I tried to place an order with very little success. I called customer service and was told the wait time was 71 minutes? I drove to my local store without any success. I left extremely frustrated!! Time to shop elsewhere

Yelp
Was looking for diamond art painting & Michaels had some. Not a big selection but I did purchase 2. My new hobby. So far so good.

Yelp
I'm not gonna lie, Michaels is my jam. It has everything I could 'almost' ever possibly need for the most random stuff and projects. Fabric, knitting supplies, art supplies, super glue, baking supplies, gift stuff, picture frames. Like every size picture frame you could possibly imagine which is a pretty hard feat. Sometimes the stuff is scattered around in a way that it's a bit tricky to know where to hunt for your treasure but overall I always leave pleased and with some kind of discount. Two for one on frames?! Hotdog! Winner winner chicken dinner. I pray this location never closes.

Lenore S.

Yelp
Great selections for crafters- yarn, knitting supplies, beads, art supplies, school supplies and it's basically a one-stop shopping experience at great prices. Always a great selection and the layout of the store makes shopping easy.

Yelp
Michael's is a definite hit with me. My daughter loves to shop here and I love to look around. I've been to this location several times now. It gets better and better as I learn my way around. Customer Service is always fast and friendly. There's associates on the sales floor available for assistance. The cashier is always nice and efficient. I'm raising the stars after today's visit. This is my Michael's now when I need arts supplies , crafts and more!

Nan P.

Yelp
Terrible service. Very upsetting. Placed an online order for 6 yarns received totally wrong colors and from manufacturers other than those ordered from. What is the point of ordering online when you get the wrong items.

Terry F.

Yelp
Myself and other customers needed assistance with picture frames as the shelves were not well stocked. The young women in that dept. merely told us what aisles to check (obviously we had already checked - that's why we were asking about their inventory). They were not willing to check for more and one employee even disappeared and never returned to help. Michaels, if you're going to run a sale, at least have the items available, and have workers who are familiar with the products. Extremely poor customer service.

Yelp
Love this store !!! Always the nicer people working there !!! I do lot frame orders people are amazing ! ALVI help me couple times I fell he do best costumer service on every level !! Really nice guy he know what is doing and just always happy with result ! Really great store

Linda S.

Yelp
Michaels is fairly well stocked with a good variety of merchandise at reasonable prices. Go onto their website for your local store and search for an item; you'll get the exact location of that item in that store. This, of course, makes it very easy to find out if they have what you want and to locate it immediately. On the negative side: They'll pull "oopsies" better suited to middle school April Fools' Day pranks when it comes to online orders to be picked up at a store. I bought an item (at a post-holiday sale) online and was told to wait for an email telling me when I could pick it up at a local store. The next day I got an email all right - saying that the item was in fact unavailable. Great way to DEcrease customer satisfaction, Michaels!

Yelp
After my most recent visit I couldn't miss the opportunity to say this about this Micheal's location. Absolutely horrendous customer service. Though I don't think everyone employed there is to blame the lines are always long it's a 30 plus minute wait if you aren't doing self checkout but more than that it's nothing like seeing what has to be the slowest cashier in the history of the is universe work the only register open while 5-6 employees stand around chatting and laughing. Then it's always at least 85 degrees in the store it doesn't matter the season and the manager (a middle aged African American woman) whose overall countenance screams I DON'T LOVE CRAFTS OR CRAFT LOVERS OR MY JOB!!!!! is never helpful. She stood and chatted with a friend for 15 minutes while the line was at a stand still. If this store doesn't use cash or the wait to make an exchange is at least 35 minutes please put up signs that statehouse facts. This store needs an overall new disposition the only reason they get the business they do is because they are the only Micheal's left in Manhattan but the service simply will not do. Go there if you must if not go elsewhere. PS: The single star is so I could get the privilege to post this

Roseanne P.

Yelp
gave no less than 3 because they have a nice overall selection. Other than the floral all sales seem to be buy one get 3nd half off. Big whoop. What insults my consumer sensibilities is at least in Hartsdale NY you must ring up your order yourself & pay for any bags, on top of finding precious few staff. I know certain segment of population loves to say no one wants to work. I find it's no companies want to hire & push that onto their customers. Either way this is savings that Michael's keeps for itself. As one customer said, at least give us the employee discount. If any CEO wants to know why people are leaving retail for online shopping that's a major influence for this shopper

A G.

Yelp
I sent 7 photos to be printed on 8 x 10 wooden blocks and when I received them one was zoomed in and looks bad. The company would not reprint the one photo for me. I was originally debating on having Costco (now prints through Shutterfly) print them but I chose Michaels...BIG mistake. Costco has a 100% guarantee return policy and pricing was very similar. I will be going through Costco (Shutterfly) for future photo needs.

Yelp
I ordered supplies to have delivered same day for a party I was having this evening. They delivered someone else's stuff to me, and when I called them they refused to either send me my stuff again or given me a refund. The manager directly said she is not responsible for any of it and they can't help it if deliveries get lost Do not rely on them for delivery. Or to be helpful.

Mindy C.

Yelp
Totally incompetent. Bought two $13 frame at Target, but the opening of the mat, meant for a 5X7 photo was too small for my somewhat bigger pictures. I went to Michael's to get custom mats cut. Not only did the mats cost $21 each, but they are clearly inferior to the ones that came with the Target frames--lighter weight and the bevel is not as nice. Despite the one day sign, they said it would take 2 days. On day 3 I called and was told that even though the system said they were done (but no one had contacted me), the woman couldn't find it. I asked her to redo it and I would come in the next day. When I did, they couldn't find it, but my husband did. I brought the mats home and the opening of both aren't the right size. Each is a tiny bit bigger than the Target ones, but not big enough to show the whole pictures. I don't want to ever deal with these incompetents again, so I guess I'll have to just go to a framer who knows how to make a custom mat.

Kellianne H.

Yelp
Always a wonderful experience to shop here. The associates are very kind and helpful. Although the check out line can be a little long at times, the employees are always VERY sweet and passionate about crafting. I'm often asked what project I'm up to next and it's nice to strike up a quick and warm conversation with someone who also enjoys crafting.

Charlie S.

Yelp
over all, Michael's is pretty pricy. employees are nice, but two 5 inch strings of plastic beads are usually $6-12. I recently crochet a pillow with the Michael's yarn and it was fine, until I decided to buy the supply to make another one although the yarn balls I've noticed have definitely decreased in size. still a pretty nice store and always is ready for the next holiday set up with decorations at the front. (for sale)
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
I've heard of Michaels but never had a real interest in going to Michaels--until I started crocheting and knitting. If you are into fiber arts, you know how addicting yarn is. Just like the sign says in Michaels--"there's no such thing as too much yarn." I certainly wouldn't disagree. However, I've been ordering all of my yarn online because I started crocheting and knitting during the pandemic. I needed one more skein of black acrylic worsted weight yarn for a Knitatude pattern and didn't feel like ordering it. Decided to check out Michaels and it made me so happy to see and touch the yarn. They carry quite a bit of Lion Brand yarn. It's really huge but the signage helps especially if you're not familiar. They have self-checkout but I decided to wait for a cashier because I wanted to sign up for their rewards program--I have a funny feeling that I'll be hanging out at Michaels. The cashier was very friendly and helpful. I was able to sign up for it and start using it. I definitely recommend!

Yelp
Deceptively large inside, while not as large as many of its suburban counterparts, this Michael's carries the a good selection of arts and crafts items for your DIY and decorating needs. They have everything from fabric/faux plants, vases and baskets, photo frames and wall decor, various types of paper and scrapbooking items, invitations and cards, wedding decorations, wood crafting yarns, ribbons and felts, beads and jewelry supplies, paints and canvases, assorted bakeware and door decor, and seasonal holiday items, .... the list goes on. Store presentation and layout is pretty good, they generally put all similar types of items together. but there are small pockets of areas where I wished were easier to find, for example the fine tip pens would be easier to find if placed closer to stationary, and in my mind the party supplies (bags and decorations) work better closer to the party signs and invitations. Of course there is some restriction due to how the dimensions of each area are laid out, but those are my thoughts. All in all glad this is here as it's a convenient spot to pick up craft supplies.

Devon B.

Yelp
Beware, they lost an art print that I paid to have framed and did pretty much nothing to solve the situation. I went to Michaels to have a print framed, after a few weeks I stopped by the store and they assured me that they would mail it when finished. They never contacted me again, so I stopped by a couple weeks later and they had trouble finding the print. They said they would contact me again with an update but never did. I went one additional time and again they couldn't find the print, and offered a refund. However, since I bought the print in a foreign country in cash, they did not refund ANY of the print cost. Overall, they were unhelpful to deal with and they never tried to solve the problem or contact me. Save your time and money, get your framing done elsewhere.

Susan V.

Yelp
Erin in the framing department was so wonderful and helpful. I greatly appreciated her walking me through all of my options. As for the store itself, this is the only Michael's left in Manhattan. The selection is decent and pretty well organized. You're generally going to find what you need. My one complaint is that they seem to be reorganizing the check out line as part of their conversion to self check out machines which makes no sense. You now have to enter the line from the florals section vs the entrance near the door. Not sure if they're planning to reorganize that section or not.
google avatar

Tamika P.

Yelp
This Michael's is well stocked and I was able to get everything I needed. They have a wide selection in just about every section.
google avatar

Victoria B.

Yelp
I'm writing this review specifically for the cashier, unfortunately I did not get his name, my receipt reads 4:42 pm 1/2. He was in his 20s, perhaps Indian. He was very patient with me & helpful, he helped me find a coupon online-his suggestion, which helped me save a nice amount of $. He took the time to wrap up my glass items individually. I'm giving this Michael's 4 stars out of 5 because of the store itself & some of the other staff encounters I've had. The store often is missing something I'm looking for, & this is pre pandemic as well. Additionally I've asked other staff where something is & they don't know or give me incorrect info. I acknowledge it's a large store with changing inventory. On the other hand I would think one would do their best to familiarize themselves with it & if truly did not know to make a better effort at providing assistance.
google avatar

Caroline N.

Yelp
If you love architecture, this is one building to definitely check out. After going the escalator, turn right go straight then right to the middle of the store, there is a beautiful high ceiling skylight, which showcases the structure's beauty, and cute street lamps for lighting. As for Michael's this location is not as spacious as other Michael's stores but this is Manhattan so it is decent. Great places for arts and crafts! When I arrive during lunchtime, there is no line. I pick up my item. Now there is about 8 people on the line in front of me. The line overall isn't too bad since there are 6 registers open so it was relatively quick check out (though I been on the line where it took a while to leave) so this is a good day.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
I came looking for a multi purpose fabric glue and the on-floor person help me out quick and easy. Overall its a Michael's it has everything you need for your crafting desires. It can get a lil crowed but other than that its in a good location. I also didn't have to stand in line too long to pay. Customer Service was great for me.

Nell J.

Yelp
I want to give zero stars. I wrote this email to the CEO and customer service of Michaels and didn't get a response so I posted it on their Facebook page. They removed it and called me to tell me they are sorry for the confusion. I explained to them that I am not confused. A sign is posted interior store stating one thing and they are doing another. I then posted the question "Why was my post removed and that was removed?" Micheals doesn't care about their customers and the value for the costs at the store isn't worth it since they only have 20% off coupons. This is what the email read: Once again I have a complaint about your store in cross county Yonkers New York. I made a purchase online for in store pickup. I walked into the store, did some shopping, went over to the self pick up station, found my bag then went to the counter to pay for my other items. When I approached the checkout desk the cashier asked for my name and ID. At first I didn't realize he was talking to me. I asked why Does he need that information and he said because I made a pick up of an online order. He said I had to show him I'd and sign for the package. In all the michaels stores that I have picked up online items I have never been asked for ID unless the item was brought to me from an employee from behind the counter. I told him that not required and he told me it's always required. That isn't true and I believe this is a case of racial profiling. If I didn't need additional items I would have taken the bag and walked out. If he had a customer he wouldn't know I picked up a bag and I would have walked out. Asking me for I'd unnecessarily could have gone several ways however I showed him my ID knowing that I was going to send this email of complaint. I am attaching photos of the pick up station that clearly states HELP YOURSELF TAKE YOUR ORDER FROM THE BIN AND LEAVE THIS SLIP HERE. This location is the worst Michaels I have ever shopped. The workers are young and unprofessional, no one is on the floor to help and the checkout line is always long because there only one cashier working. I will not shop here anymore because I am not valued as a customer.
google avatar

Yelp
My main issues with this place is where are the staffs? No one is working on the sales floor. And why does the security guard know more than the actual staff? The tall and slender security guard was very helpful and showed me what I was looking for since the staff didn't know. The other thing about this place is they don't hire people who are knowledgeable about crafts. In the south, I could easily find people to help me and they are very knowledgeable and suggest products to achieve my projects. Also, why is there always a long line here? If this many people are crafting in NYC, why aren't their employees? Hire people who knows their stuff and also have people on the floor.
google avatar

Esmeralda C.

Yelp
I'm not a crafty person at all but love to visit this store and check out all the great items available for creative people of this world. I especially enjoy looking and at times purchasing the holiday banners, fans and other cutesy items available for decorating any space, in my case, my office. The only negative of this particular location is there isn't always enough staff available when you have questions or need additional assistance when attempting to create something from scratch. There are always good bargains, coupons and great sales, especially when the holiday season is coming to a close. Overall cool place to shop at or gawk at, when seeking particulars for a cool creation.
google avatar

Melissa R.

Yelp
This Michaels is huge and has so many arts and crafts supplies. The reason I am only giving it 3 stars is because I have come here a dozen times looking for specific cross-stitch items (thread, thimbles, Aida fabric), and it never ceases to amaze me that they are always out of what I am looking for. They may have some colors of threads, but I have not visited one time where they had everything I need. My suggestion would be to order online so you are sure to get what you are looking for.

Yelp
Cool place to get all your crafts needs. I particularly like this location because of the size. It's very very big. I like the special room they have for private parties and other events that are open to the public. I came here with my younger sister because there was a slime event, where kids could make and play with slime. The event was able to accommodate many people, which I knew wouldn't be possible in other Michael's location. They even gave a $10 off coupon too. Anyways, besides the event, they had a big doorbuster sale where I was able to buy fake plants for like only 50 cents!

Yelp
I've recently gone to Micheals this past December for creative Christmas gift ideas but mostly to hunt for molds. Given the times I thought it would be cute to give out handmade customized soap as a favor for an event. This led me to searching up and down this store for molds to craft homemade soap. Thankfully I came to my senses and made it to Micheals. Not only did they have what I needed but they had variety and it was on sale. So homegirl got to save a dollar as well! I was able to find snowflake and snowman molds that I assume most use them for chocolates but they were perfect for making soap. They came out so gorgeous and enjoyed the craft of forming my own soap.

Yelp
I've been so impressed by Michael's framing services that it had to be said. I met with the amazing Quinn who patiently went through all the options for framing a custom canvas. Her artsy eye helped me choose a frame that made the art shine. Framed to perfection and even hand delivered to my home. After experiencing others (with bridge in the name) where my artwork came back damaged and the frame was meh, could not be more happy with this service or the staff.

Yelp
We waited on the phone to talk to the frame department for 47 min. No joke. No one ever picked up. We called the store again, they simply hung up. This place sucks.

Yelp
Massive Michaels with almost everything you need, but if you need to quickly get in and out it's probably best to shop during the weekdays. Extremely long lines that wrap around almost every weekend I've stopped by so far, but not too surprised since it's conveniently located in Chelsea. Crowded or not, you won't leave unhappy just stopping by to see what they have in store. I mean, who doesn't love arts & crafts?!

Yelp
The custom framing department is completely unreliable. They never abide by the date given, they are unorganized, and over priced. Go elsewhere to frame.

Yelp
I'm torn about this place. On one hand, it's a diy crafter's dream store - tons of bits and bobs for a Halloween costume, a sewing project, or random adventure requiring a rainbow assortment of beads, glitter or artificial flowers. It really is my happy place. However, their online pickup system needs fine tuning. The pickup location within the store is not clear (and different from what is stated in the confirmation). Often short staffed (not just this location), store pickup requires several attempts and many minutes for retrieval of the purchased product. The customer service rep lady asked my name, disappeared into the back, returned and asked me to describe the purchase, and disappeared again. It was a similar pattern with other customers. Eventually, I got my package, but i think I may go elsewhere next time.

Yelp
On Thanksgiving day, I made a stop here at 5:05PM to see if I can get my hands on one of the doorbusters. I was a little winded from my gig at a soup kitchen prior. Also, I had dinner commitment in Forest Hills at 7PM. Hence, I went to Michaels an hour early before they open the door. I was hoping to get what I came for and leave. As soon, as they opened the door at 6PM, I retrieved my 2 items and I was at the cash register at 6:05PM. I was able to make it in time to see my friend distributing the turkey. This place rocks! Their products are neatly displayed. Also, their cashiers are always upbeat. I love this place!

Yelp
I love Michael's but I can see why so many of them are closing because the service is just terrible. Now they've gone to self check out with one register open and that one register literally doesn't have change to do refunds.

Yelp
I needed some Matts cut quickly so I thought I would try Michael's. I picked them up today and they are slightly to big for my 16x20 frames. I need these for tomorrow and will have to cut them myself. Not worth the money.
