Michaels has always been my kids' favorite store, and we visit often to stock up on supplies for our crafts and baking projects especially when we're in the mood to make cupcakes. It's clean, well-stocked, and has everything we need for arts and crafts. While the prices are reasonable, the staff could be friendlier.
When I found out they hosted parties, I decided to throw my daughter's 9th birthday there and chose the jewelry-making party package. While the price was fair, the experience didn't meet my expectations. They provided only one bead package for the entire group and didn't supply bowls for the kids to pick their beads, so I had to use the plates I had brought for the party. The room was small, which I understand is why the party was capped at eight children, but the materials provided were subpar. For example, the string wasn't the best quality they offer in the store, and they only had one pair of scissors for the whole group. When I asked for additional supplies, I was told they didn't have any, which was disappointing for a craft store.
The party package included drinks, but only sodas were offered. Since my kids don't drink soda, I expected at least an option for water, but there was none. Thankfully, I brought my own juice and water bottles. They also assigned just one staff member to assist, which made it challenging as she had to help each child individually. It would have been much smoother with an extra helper.
Overall, while Michaels remains our go-to store for crafting, the party experience left much to be desired. With some improvements , better supplies, more staff support, and a wider selection of drinks--this could be a great option for hosting kids' parties.
