Here Are San Diego’s Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings of Spring 2024 | Eater San Diego

"Operating from a Bankers Hill storefront, Michi Michi is a community-minded bakery created by Split Bakehouse founder Vanessa Corrales that will provide counter and kitchen space to guest bakers and up-and-comers and be overseen by pastry chef Arely Chavez (alum of Born & Raised and the Fishery); the bakery will rotate offerings from fresh bread to vegan baked goods and produce pastries, specialty desserts, and whole cakes that spotlight growers like Chino Farm and JR Organics." - Candice Woo

The pastries are just okay. I’ve given this spot several tries, but overall they’re pretty mid. 3 stars for the creative flavor profiles, also the mango sticky rice pastry hits every time. Not really worth the wait though and there are better options out there.

If you are looking for something new in the area with breakfast pastries options, sweet or savory, then you have found your spot. They have great, unique pastries inspired by international cuisines, particularly Mexican. Nothing was absolutely wrong with this place, however, I didn’t think it was wow-worthy or that it deserved a 5-star rating. In other words, it’s not something that I’d wake up in the morning and say “damn, I wish I could go back and have one of those pastries”. The biggest issue I had is that none of the puff pastries had the freshness, flakiness, and buttery flavor that a good puff pastry should have. As of now, it is a happening spot, so you should expect a 20-30 min line, be there very early, or later when they are out of most of their pastries. Most of the pastries are $6-8, which, for what you get, might be on the higher side, but not too out of range. Definitely worth trying so you can be the judge. And please let me know if you have a different opinion.

Love the concept of this place...different bakers are featured at certain times! Ideas are always new and fresh and they still managed to bring back the really good pastries. I've been here 3-4 times and have always loved the pastries. As with any popular place that has gone 'viral " it's good to get here early. They have so many choices but so far my favorites have been huevos rancheros croissant, chocoflan and this fig twisty thing that I loved!

Our favorite bakery!!! We have visited Michi Michi several times and every time we have gone we have tried about 5 pastries. Every single item we have purchased has been phenomenal from the fresh squeezed orange juice to all the pastries offered. Just a few of our favorites include the conchas, guava cream cheese Danish, and the persimmon butter one. The textures are so perfect you will not be disappointed. Staff is super friendly and cheerful and the atmosphere is very welcoming. Extremely kid friendly!!! Such a nice family outing.

These pastries are very good, however there are better spots to adventure to in San Diego. There are unique flavors at Michi Michi, which is a huge plus. The line was outrageously long for a Saturday morning (approx. 20-25 mins). Every pastry was cold so the ones that had egg just didn’t hit the same. Would recommend but would seek it out.

So many fun and delicious pastries from different bakers throughout San Diego! Expect a line and get there early or they might run out of your favorite pastry. The line was only about 5 to 10 people long when I was there at 8:15-8:30 AM on a Friday.

I’ve been here twice now, and the pastries have been wonderful! We’ve tried an assortment of different types - from sweet to savory - and they have all been so well-made. You can see the lamination quite nicely inside the pastries which is the best part for me, and all their flavors are right on point - nothing too overwhelmingly sweet or dense.

This place is cute and their stuff is so good! They have a great selection of pastries. Love that it is made by different local bakers and the fact that their matcha is made with oat milk just put them over the top! Apart from pastries, I ended up with the veggie sandwich on focaccia… wow! The pickled carrots and shishito hummus made it really tasty.
