The Best Sonoran Hot Dogs in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"One of the East Valley’s longest-running spots, Micky’s has served Mesa, Arizona since 1995, tucked beside the towering, long-abandoned flour mills. A quirky hand-painted logo of a grinning hot dog with cartoon eyes beckons from the front. The menu is simple: Sonoran dogs and taquería staples on flour tortillas made in house daily. Fewer than 10 seats wrap the counter inside, with picnic tables out front. The bacon wrap runs a little thinner here, letting the dog’s char and smoky salsa stand out — though those craving more bacon may want to look elsewhere. Add a taco when the dog disappears too fast." - McConnell Quinn

Google
Down & dirty Mexican joint in Mesa, AZ. I’m in that area several times a month so it’s convenient. Good Mexican food where meat is king… serve Mexican Hot Dogs too. Today I had 1-Carne Asada & 1-Pastor Street Tacos, and a Caramelo Quesadilla… corn tortilla, cheese, & Cabeza. Good salsa bar… red & green salsas… love the guacamole salsa! Good place… I’ll keep going back for more!

Overpriced as all get out. $7 for a regular hot dog with just ketchup on it. $13 for a gross carne asada burrito. It did not taste good. It had nothing in it, no onions, cilantro,…it was literally carne asada and a little cabbage. Like what? The salsa wasn’t good either

Google
I found myself looking for some late night eats on Broadway again. Stumbled upon this place based on the good reviews. Mickey's hot dogs is a pretty small limited menu mexican restaurant with limited space for parking. I ended up getting 2 hot dogs, cheese fries with sausage, a Percheron Burro (carne asada burrito, with cheese, beans, onion wrapped in bacon) and bean w/ cheese burrito for a total of $41 after taxes. 1. The hot dogs were basic Sonoran dogs. For $7 this was a little overpriced for the area. There are multiple other hot dog stands around here where you get more flavor. 2. I ordered the cheese fries with hot dog sausages, as I was told it was a favorite. It was decent, but fries and cheese sauce had absolutely no seasoning. would recommend you skip this. 3 The bean burrito was a good size and had plenty of cheese definitely one of the better options. 4. The Burro Percheron was decent. A little salty due to the bacon, but overall pretty good. Albeit, for $15 just go for the regular Carne asada burrito, you're not going to miss out on anything. The salsa bar offering was decent, and salsas we're nice and spicy! Overall, this place is decent if you're in the area and nothing else is open. But definitely recommend you try some of the other similar places that are around here even if they're just the small food stalls/ trucks. Usually you will find tastier food options at a more competitive price.

Been coming here since I was 6 years old I’m 27 now and still absolutely love the hotdogs so many great memories here with my family thank you! Gracias😄

Google
Mickey's Hot Dogs are the best! I've tried Sonoran hot dogs elsewhere and nothing is as good as theirs! A small salsa bar with an assortment of toppings. I usually get the pickled onions and avocado sauce to put on mine. They a $5 for one

Google
Mickey's hot dogs is a downtown Mesa staple. They have Sonoran style Mexican food. They are best known for their Sonoran hot dogs (al Todo- with everything). Their quesadillas are HUGE and so good. We also suggest their tacos pastor or asada on flour tortillas are our favorite. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and the salsa bar is great (fair warning the red salsa is HOT).

Google
Micky's Sonoran hot dogs are my favorites here in the valley. Always so good, the bun is soft and maybe even slightly sweet... so awesome!

Google
Finally found a place in Mesa that reminds me of Guello Canello or El Nene’s from Tucson! Great flavor and decent prices! It’s tucked away off of Broadway & Macdonald on the north side, parking seems to be limited, but it is worth coming to try the famous Sonoran Dog!

Yelp
Tried the Sonoran Hot Dog for the first time here. It's pretty good, I like how the ingredients go together, definitely enjoyed it. Also had a Carne Asada Taco, which was also great. One thing that stood out is the quality of the meat, seemed on the higher end, especially for a taco. The service was very quick and friendly, and the peripherals (salsas, pickled stuff, etc) were also pretty good. Being from California the prices were steep ($3.5 a taco at the time of writing this) but maybe it's the norm for Arizona?

Yelp
Quick service, amazing food, and an amazing kick it spot with the squad! I highly recommend the hot dogs! They were so good and definitely a must try. It's perfect hotdog fusion! Grab a couple of hot dogs and an horchata. Skip the tacos, and just keep the hot dogs in the bag! Remember there's a .50¢ charge if you use a card.

Yelp
Family owned, friendly service even to the gringo walking in 8 pm on a Sunday night The quality and care in preparation is excellent These people care about putting out a consistent top notch product Must try in person

Yelp
If you want authentic Sonoran dogs; this is it. You don't have to speak Spanish. You can get all the food for 30 dollars. Feels so mom and pop and everyone is so friendly. Not much to say for service but everyone is nice. Not a bad thing to say. Take the food to go would be my recommendation. Small space.

Yelp
such an insanely good unique hot dog. I love it. can't even describe the flavor pallet. so great

Brian G.

Yelp
Best sonoran dogs in the state! Do not forget the roasted pepper! It the perfect side for a hot dog! The Quac sauce is very good as well! ORDER EXTRA EVERYTHING! you will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Yelp
Muy rico el vampiro que ordene pero las salchipapas dejan mucho que desear.. me las diero todas quemadas, para que chequen sus ordenes antes de dejar el lugar

Yelp
This place is a good pit stop if ur feeling hungry it's never too busy and you get your food pretty fast and the taste of the food is good I usually come here for the Sonoran hot dogs the place offers a outdoor seating patio which is nice

Yelp
First time trying a Sonoran Hotdog. Delicious! I especially liked the pinto beans in the hotdog Affordable, quick, and tasty!
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
I came for the hot dogs but left with a misunderstanding! I was disappointed that the hotdogs only came with mixed meat, because I don't eat pork. Despite the name, all the customers were eating Mexican food, also with a limited menu. They have only pork and beef for meats (no chicken or shrimp), and there is no rice. So I ordered a burrito with steak, beans and cheese and a vampiro tostada with similar ingredients. They charged me $13 and then gave me just one burrito. Something was lost in translation, and I couldn't eat any of it. Too much meat and nothing else to balance it. My div Zeke really enjoyed every bite!

Yelp
This is my first time having a Sonoran Hot Dog. The location has plenty of parking, outdoor seating and a few tables inside. The staff are super friendly and explained to me what was included on a Sonoran Hot Dog. The hot dog is wrapped in bacon with beans, tomato, onions, ketchup, mustard and mayo on a soft hot dog bun. It seemed priced reasonably at $5 for a loaded hot dog.
google avatar

Yelp
I went to AZ recently, learned what Sonoran hot dogs were, and really wanted to try one. This spot is small and unassuming from the outside, but staff is very is kind. Sonoran hot dogs with everything on top will run you about $5, but a little extra if you pay with card. They will write your order down and you take to a staff member outside who hooks it up with the toppings. These dogs were tasty and quite filling. First Sonoran hot dog experience was a success!

Jamilex Z.

Yelp
Hands down the best hot dogs you'll ever have -- authentic, fresh, and absolutely delicious. 10/10, a must-try! This place has been a local favorite in my area since I was a kid -- I'm pretty sure they were around before I could even walk! The fact that they're still standing strong today, especially with how tough the economy has been, just goes to show how amazing they are. Quality like this keeps people coming back for decades.

Yelp
I love the Carne o Sada Tacos here. Came here for lunch one day, and I love the menu selections. Kind of a crazy combo with tacos and hot dogs lol. Ordered one hot dog with french fries, and some Carne O Sada Tacos. Food is good here tho. Nothing is expensive. Cant wait to visit again.

Rachelle G.

Yelp
I ordered a Sonoran dog and a Carne asada burrito. The Sonoran was good just got soggy. I asked for beans and cheese in my burrito, it in fact came with just meat. Horrible first time +I tipped before hand. I will not be going back. Customer satisfaction should mean something.
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
Hot dogs from Mickey's are very good! Made fresh as you order them. Price is also reasonable they also sell Mexican bottled sodas which pairs really well with this type of food. It's also both indoor/outdoor seating. Parking is kind of tight so just be aware of peak times. When in Mesa I'd highly recommend coming here if you crave soñoran hot dogs.
google avatar

Maddy L.

Yelp
I see a lot of old reviews here from years ago talking about the terrible service and the food not tasting good and I don't think those could be any farther from the truth. Every time I go to mickeys the Sonoran dogs are amazing the fries are fresh and the tacos are delicious. The horchata is perfect, I hate when it's too grainy. It's a small shop with an outdoor patio and they do grill outside for the hot dogs. A lot of small business take cash only but mickeys has recently gotten a card reader for those who don't carry cash. If you're searching for a good Sonoran dog and street food joint with fair prices this is it. If you're looking for a "hot dog" and can't be patient with someone who's first language isn't English than I would say it's not for you.
google avatar

Graham S.

Yelp
Great little place, indoor and outdoor seating available. Food is priced fairly for the freshly made delicious food. Staff are wonderful and even when they run out of beans/horchata - still a great time
google avatar

Ron F.

Yelp
I ordered some carne asada taco. Great taste, perfectly prepared. Now , this is the best part the salsas! They have a red hot sauce, that is actually hot! I loved it and guacamole salsa is freshly made and delicious! It's in an older part of downtown mesa, next to the old feed store. Small inside for cozy seating. But they also have a patio. It's great food and reasonably priced. Owner is friendly, with a great fun personality. I'll continue to recommend and support this business!! Try it out!!

Tara K.

Yelp
We stopped here when in town and my friend wanted a Sonoran dog. While standing in line a customer told us to get the hot dogs. We wound up getting a Sonoran dog, a small beef caramelo, a chicken taco and 2 birria tacos. The caramelo was really yummy, the birria tacos were not what I expected, but were good. There is a salsa and condiment bar to finish off your meal). The Sonoran dog was sloppy here (she compared it to the one she got at El Guero Canelo, which she liked better). Not a fancy place, but I find some of the best places are just simple Mom and Pop type places.
google avatar

Debra D.

Yelp
They use to serve got dogs out of a hot dog cart. Now they don't. You can't see the toppings and if you are not fluent in Spanish I guarantee you won't get the toppings you want. We use to come here 3 or 4 times a month then they stopped using the cart and we cut back to 2 times then the wait staff stopped speaking any English and we had to look for new hot dog place. With the cart we could point to toppings we want. Now we just have to eat what they put on. That is not the American way. We hold the pickle add lettuce at burger King. Other places still use a cart.

Yelp
First time having real Sonoran hot dogs and I'm sold. Bacon-wrapped and deep-fried with a bit of spice. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Darrel A.

Yelp
Real deal Sonoran dogs and other tasty authentic Mexican fare. Cost effective and tasty! Hit it!
google avatar

Crystal O.

Yelp
Old school and yummy only wish tacos were a little bigger for the price. Love the salsa bar and fixings too. I remember when I was a teenager we were go and except the cash they take all different types of payment now even Apple Pay.
google avatar

Sierra V.

Yelp
They have bottled mexican dr.pepper and fresca! We got the salchipapas and a hot dog with everything on it, and tacos with carne asada. Everything was so delicious we scarfed down out hotdogs before I was able to even think about taking a picture it was just so good I had to eat it without putting it down lol
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
Interesting concept, hot dog wrapped in bacon with beans and other toppings. It was good but nothing special.
google avatar

Betsy A.

Yelp
This place was absolutely amazing honestly the hotdogs were so good the only Mexican hotdogs I've ever had have been from Los Angeles and this was the first time me having them here in Arizona and I can honestly say they were amazing! The food came quick and super hot which was great everything is made fresh which I also love and we came in a big group and everybody was served quickly which was even better
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
Absolutely outstanding! I can only vaguely remember having a Sonoran hot dog once before, and when lunch rolled around today, I felt the drive to have a very "Arizona" lunch. Some of the most flavorful chili pepper sauce and verde sauce as well. I wish I had gotten more than one hot dog, but it was excellent while it Update: Still stands up. Great stuff, great people
google avatar

Michelle I.

Yelp
Friendly service! Small and delicious! Traveled all the way from chicago and enjoyed this delicious Sonora Dog! A must have before leaving this dessert!!!! I traveled out of my way to come here because it was highly recommended by the staff at my hotel. All topics is a must!!!! At least for the first time

Vanessa M.

Yelp
The hot dogs were delicious !!! The service was also very good! Highly recommend! Sonoran Hotdog

John F.

Yelp
Truly amazing place! The buns they use are other worldly! Great condiment bar. Sonoran dogs here are a game changer for my gringo pallet!!
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
Pretty good place overall, a little down and dirty, but not "bad" dirty. I didn't have any problems ordering. The lady could understand what I wanted. They actually give you a ticket for the hot dog and you go outside to get it. The dog is good and filling. Some people here talked about the other things on the menu being small, and they're right. See the picture and the pen for reference. You can eat the taco in 2 big bites. The caramelo might take a couple more, but not much. The flavor was excellent, especially the caramelo. Very strong in all the right ways. It made me forget about the price. The taco was good overall and the salsa bar is what I like. The hot dog itself could have had more flavor, but it comes together well. Despite the smallish size of the taco and caramelo it was still a filling meal with the hot dog and the total, with a can of soda, was around $8.50. I left satisfied.

Jeff F.

Yelp
Qué rico! ¡Muy sabroso! WOWOWZA! Just finished TWO of the best hot dogs I've had in a looooooong time (with the works)
google avatar

Joyce W.

Yelp
"Give me some head please." I requested politely. Wait, what? Clearly I'm talking about cabeza tacos. Gosh, you Yelpers are perverts! So we came here today for the Sonoran Dog but got a bunch of other stuff on the side just to try everything. We'll get back to the hot dogs in a second but to put it short for their tacos and burrito, it was okay. The cabeza tacos ($1.75ea) were greasy, the al pastor tacos ($1.75ea) were better and had good flavor, and the carne asada burrito ($6.00) was basic and on the smaller side given the price point. The real star is the $3.00 Sonoran dog. I actually have a different place I go to that charges $3.09 for each dog and I thought they served the best Sonoran dog. I even went back to my old place the same day to try it side by side and the difference was startling. After coming here, I gotta transfer the crown to Micky's. Micky's does it right! Sweet fluffy roll, thick charred wiener (that's what she said), and a heaping of toppings. Top it with their avocado crema and it's bliss! $15.50 for two Sonoran dogs, two tacos, and a burrito. I wouldn't come here for anything besides the Sonoran dog. Micky's is located in the industrial area of Mesa. Cash only, seating is limited, and don't forget to visit the salsa bar!
google avatar

Alexa R.

Yelp
A place worth stopping at giving a try. Went in the middle of the day, but can definitely see this place busy at night. Pretty small menu but makes it pretty easy to order. Great salsas!
google avatar

Iveth H.

Yelp
Love the hotdogs and overall food here...looks small but delicious best food are usually at small places like mickeys

Josh R.

Yelp
I've been looking for a Sonoran hot dog in Phoenix area and I finally found it, and my God was it delicious!!! Thanks for fulfilling my craving Micky's! You make delicious food and the staff were so welcoming and kind

Chris R.

Yelp
I swear by these Sonoran Dogs! They are like candy in my mouse. When I have family visiting from out of state, I make it a point to take them all there too because they all love it so much and can't get anything like these dogs where they live. Two dogs and a glass bottle of cold Coke..... HEAVENLY!

Jessica M.

Yelp
Great hidden spot! Amazing food, definitely coming back here! The wait was a little long but they had a decent size crowd but worth the wait!
google avatar

Dinora D.

Yelp
Came here for the Sonora Dog. Was not disappointed. Ordering to go might not be a good idea if you have a bit of a drive cuz the bread gets soggy. The bacon wrapped hot dog is really good, the toppings were a good addition too. Maybe a little less tomato but still worth the drive. If you've never had a Sonoran dog, go with an open mind cuz it's a lot of flavor in one bite!
google avatar

Gabriel M.

Yelp
Best Sonoran dogs in east Phoenix. This place isn't the fanciest place, but their Sonoran dogs are absolutely amazing. Their bread for the buns are what really set them apart from other Sonoran dogs. Not a bad price either.
google avatar

Josh C.

Yelp
FOOD CONTAMINATION! First, this place is very over priced. The tacos are $2.50 and aren't even that great. Now, it wasn't until after had finished our food we went to grab our horchata. The man in the back was handling raw meat then went to get us a drink. With out washing his hands, he grabbed the cups and got ice out of a cooler with a scoop. Then put the scoop back into the ice and closed the lid. Then, touched all the lids and straws. This probably happens often. The meat was sitting out and it was so hot in the area we were eating. He contaminated so many things. Also, the chopped cabbage that was in our food tasted old and was not good. I won't be going here again. I would advise people not go to here. Not sure how often the health inspector comes around, but Micky's sure needs to clean up their act quick!
google avatar

Steven M.

Yelp
I came here looking for a good "street style" Sonoran hotdog. Do you know which brand of hotdogs they use? Bar S--the cheapest, most bland brand of hotdog you can possibly get. Wrapping those cheap franks in bacon is like putting lipstick on a pig. They probably have a price markup if 400-500% instead of the traditional 200-250%. I don't like that business model at all. I gave an extra star (up from 1-star) because the buns were good. I also got a quesadilla with meat, which were ok. I didn't think it was possible to mess up carne asada, but their carne asada has way too much char flavor to the point where all you can taste is smoke-flavor. On the other hand, their al pastor was actually pretty decent. If you have to give this place a try, I recommend the carne al pastor on a quesadilla.

Tony T.

Yelp
Their Sonoran hot dogs are awesome. Friendly quick service. I'll be back when I'm in the area.
google avatar

Kat T.

Yelp
We always have to stop here when we go to Arizona! We've tried another place for the Sonoran dog that was way busier but this hole in the wall is way better! I got mine not spicy and he got his spicy. He loved it so much he went in for a second one.
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Service with a smile and AMAZING food! It's exactly what I want when I order a Sonoran dog
google avatar

Brian L.

Yelp
Pretty damn good Sonoran dogs here in Mesa. Yes some (non-ers) might call it a hole in the wall Mexican place ... but if you know anything about good food, a hole in the wall place is where you are going to get it! And this place did not disappoint. The dogs were so good I went back in just to try the tacos ... had a carne asada one, which was good. The toppings bar definitely added to the experience - pickled red onions, pico, green salsa and (some sought of) avocado salsa, made it all the more tasty. Will definitely be going back
google avatar

J P.

Yelp
Very good Sonora dog. Small place for eat in but quick service so you can get in and out quickly. Just a commentary on Sonora dogs in general...there tends to be a lot of ingredients on the dog and this place is no exception. You're going to need a fork and a fair amount of napkins because stuff gets everywhere
google avatar

Rainboe D.

Yelp
B E S T place for hot dogs! Their buns are always so soft, and their ingredients are always so tasty. Today we tried their carne asada burrito, and it was also just as tasty. Their salsas are delicious, and I love their lime pickled (?) red onions. We're definitely coming back to get their $10.00 burrito, quesadilla, 3 taco special..... WHAT A DEAL!
