Yelp
Miel was by far not my first choice for Dine Out Boston. They rate 3.5 stars on Yelp. They did not have a Restaurant Week menu posted. And they price their Restaurant Week lunch at $25, which is the highest of the 3 options ($15/$20/$25).
But my dc nixed a bunch of my suggestions, leaving this as the one with the shortest commute, and they open for lunch at 11am.
Once they posted their RW menu, I once again had 2nd thoughts. What?! They are only offering 2 courses for $25? What was steep became steeper. And to this sweet tooth, it was a lost opportunity to consume dessert at lunch. And second, the entrees options didn't exactly thrill me... so I would probably go with the vegetarian entree option, which generally isn't the wise choice for RW.
But my dc put a pleasant spin on it - "hopefully that means it's VERY VERY good."
Miel's is located inside the Intercontinental Hotel. What I didn't realize was that it consisted of 3 parts - the front bar area (RumBa), the back dining space, and a patio out in the back.
They started us off with slices of sour dough, which I paired with the olive oil that was already on the table.
Their Beef Tartare - capers, dijon mustard, shallots, parsley, grape seed oil, grilled sourdough - was quite good, though the grilled bread served alongside the stout tower of chopped beef was too burnt in my opinion. When I asked the server if he could do something about it, however, he willingly brought out a plate of lighter grilled slices (rather limp actually, as if the kitchen was afraid of overgrilling yet a second time).
The portions of both entrees were quite acceptable. The vegetarian option, the Bucatini alla Primavera - asparagus, broccoli, peas, tomato, zucchini, pine nuts, parmesan, cream - was tasty with firm vegetables and no longer al dente tubular spaghetti. The Pepper Crusted Salmon Pailard - artichoke & tomato panzanella, basil, lemon vinaigrette - was not as thickly covered with pepper as I had imagined it would be. Both were good and made for a satisfying lunch.

Miel posted its Dine Out Boston menu earlier this time around, and it tempted me enough to plan a return for a 3 course dinner for $38.
We started with the Duck Confit Toast appetizer (caramelized onions, goat cheese, honey roasted pears, arugula, champagne vinaigrette) and found it a shareable portion with a heap of shredded duck topping a full slice of toasted bread. I enjoyed the contrast of flavors given the sweetness of the pear and onions against the savory duck and goat cheese, and crisp crunch of the bread.
The sides listed attracted me to the Maple Brined Berkshire Pork Chop entree (bourbon glazed honey crisp apples, grilled red onions, fingerling sweet potatoes), while others at the table opted for the Four Pepper Crusted Atlantic Salmon (celery root puree, hen of the woods mushrooms, hazelnut brown butter). I sampled the fish which my friends deemed overly peppered while savoring the mushrooms, but relished the thick meaty pork chop with its sweet sauce and tender accompaniments.
Dessert, however, was a slight disappointment after our enjoyment of the preceding two courses. The Riz Au Lait (traditional French rice pudding, vanilla, canella, bruleed sugar) was as advertised, but nothing special despite the addition of the crisp sugar crust over the chilled pudding. My Flourless Almond, Orange and Coconut Cake (candied orange peel, citrus cream cheese icing) had coconut shreds too generously speckled throughout the cake which was too much texture for me. While the citrus tinged icing topping the cake was nice, the grey smear decorating the plate tasted odd to us.
