New Furama Review - Armour Square - Chicago - The Infatuation

"New Furama is a solid option if you’re in need of dim sum at 3pm on a Wednesday (or anytime really, since it’s open seven days a week). This two-story Chinese restaurant is located in a strip mall on the border of Chinatown and Bridgeport, and is the sister restaurant of Furama in Uptown. The first floor functions as a large waiting area—perfect for congregating groups saying lengthy hellos and/or Midwestern goodbyes. Upstairs, you’ll find an expansive dining room serving an all-day dim sum menu that also includes Cantonese-style BBQ and other shareable dishes. Some staples, like the shumai, beef fun rolls, and fluffy-not-too-sweet pork buns are pretty good, while others, (we’re looking at you, egg yolk bun that tastes like a Jewel-brand sugar cookie), are not. Since New Furama isn’t as busy as popular Chinatown dim sum spots Triple Crown and Phoenix, keep it in mind as a viable alternative." - Veda Kilaru

We came to Mifan for dinner before going to a show across the street at the Phoemix Theater. It was popping, and the server was very accommodating to our walk-in (no reservation). The kitchen was a little behind but the staff were very friendly and communicative. Would definitely go back. The food was amazing. We shared a number of dishes that all came out great.

Google
First time going and the vegan options were clearly labeled and very good. The eggplant was beautiful, fresh and tasty. Spinach bao was unique and good. The food was worth the wait. They appear short staff but they are really trying. I saw a sign they are trying to hire additional help. The 2 gentleman provided excellent service : Samson, and our amazing waiter whose name I didn’t catch, were very hardworking and very nice. It was just the 2 of them on a busy Saturday night.

Both vegan and non vegan items are amazing and delicious. Mifan never disappoints on flavor. They have a great beer selection and some tasty cocktails. Free validation for parking and walking distance from light rail.

Unfortunately, we had a disappointing experience here during our dinner date on Friday evening (07/11). Despite a promising first impression with the menu, it took the host 10 minutes just to seat us, and the food took another 40 minutes to arrive. When it finally did, it didn’t live up to our expectations. Really hope the team can work on improving both the service and food quality. Wishing you the best going forward.

Second time I’ve been to this place, and I’m already craving to go back. We ordered the Veggie Gyoza, Spicy Udon Mein and HK Typhoon Style Claypot. These dishes were cooked and flavored flawlessly. I find that many restaurants don’t cook tofu well but Mifan has the best tofu I’ve ever had. I also enjoy the chill atmosphere, staff was nice and their food is very affordable. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Phoenix!

We happen to come across Mifan while driving by one night and added it to the list. We went early and did not have a reservation, but I suggest making a reservation if you are going later. Greater by Jimi who ended up being our server. The other waiter working was friendly as well as he brought some of our dishes to our table. They were really attentive to guests and did an amazing job. I started with the Miss Saigon cocktail. It’s shaken and poured table side into a chilled glass. The bright flavors were perfect, the only thing that could have brought it to the next level would have been some garnish in the glass - but that said it was only $13 when other places are more and sometimes not as good. Started with the Crispy Tofu and the Hon Bao. The Crispy Tofu was amazing, prob one of the best I’ve had. Flavorful, crunchy yet still soft on the inside. The sauce was really good too - not the typical peanut sauce and it’s made in house as these flavors aren’t something from a bottle. The Hon Bao came in a steamy, cloud like bun. The shrimp was crispy fried and tender. It had good flavor where the sauce was on top, but felt like it needed some salt as it just didn’t explode in flavor. Next up was the Bo Zai Fan and HK Typhoon Style. The Bo Zai Fan takes a bit longer to cook that we were told when ordering. Trust me it’s worth the wait! Flavorful Sausage and vegetables perfectly cooked with rice that developed the perfectly browned, crunchy layer against the clay pot. I’d say this was a must have. The HK Typhoon had a deeply flavored sauce that mixed well with the Thai shallots, onion, ginger and Sichuan peppercorns. You got a lot of tender chicken, tender broccoli and steamed rice - which was slightly overcooked this night. Mifan is a great place if you are looking for some really good Asian food in Phoenix. The restaurant is clean in a modern-hip environment decorated with local art and some beautiful cooking vessels. Service was great, thanks Jimi. We will be back to try the other mouth watering items on menu.

Google
My friend and I visited for lunch and the food was really excellent. I ordered Cantonese Black Dragon with shrimp. The presentation was great…the claypot was a new experience and one worth doing! Lots of shrimp, moist and delicious. My friend ordered House Dynamite with chicken. She enjoyed an excellent meal with plenty to take home for a light dinner. We will be going back and highly recommend this dining experience. The service was also excellent with a personable and attentive waiter!! Well worth the visit!

Google
The food was amazing . Crispy Gyoza Bao Hot and Sour Soup with Tofu All of the flavors were such a treat. The place was clean and very calm. To access parking is a bit of a headache, and you have to make sure you scan the QR code found the the MuSe garage.

Yelp
Foodies!!! You must try this absolutely ridiculously wonderful! This is a small quaint spot. Very cozy seating and vibes. We enjoyed black widow cider from original sin. The soup gyoza was the perfect appetizer full of lemongrass bursts. The sizzling shrimp was a real treat. It literally comes out sizzling. Bursting with pineapple and spices. I also ordered a side of chicken that was so delicious. The lemongrass noodle soup was wonderful, I added tofu! Chef Jonny is absolutely incredible! Our server Jimi was an absolute doll! You must go asap! Wonderful experience!

Yelp
Okay flavor, but overly salty/flavorful and tiny portions. Bo zai fan clay pot dish is mainly aesthetic and minimal feature of the actual clay pot (minimal crispy rice at the bottom, no smoky flavor). The shrimp bao was a bit interesting since it basically was a fish taco with the white crema in a soft bun. Tiny portions though. Eggplant was tasty but overly flavorful, likely MSG. Favorite was the flat rice tofu dish since flavors were slightly less than salty, though still so, and rice cake was soft. Service is slow for weekend lunch time two tables and cooking time is pretty slow too.

Yelp
My husband had just finished a routine outpatient diagnostic procedure. I will spare you the details, but the area of his body rhymes with stolen. He was starving after fasting for a day. We were in the mood for Asian and, given that his doctor asked him to avoid spicy foods, this establishment seemed gentle enough. Especially for one so groggy. I rolled us over and it was empty; we'd gotten there just before they closed for the afternoon. The server seemed delighted to help us settle into a comfy spot and order. It was just what we needed. We ordered two clay pot meals. I do not remember their names, but one of them had a Polynesian sweet-and-sour bent. The other was more savory. They were both comforting. We felt so pampered, having the place all to ourselves and we found the furnishings and just the overall atmosphere appealing.

Yelp
We went to Mifan yesterday and it was great! Johnny Chu is an amazing chef and we had a spectacular meal. Ambiance was fun and interesting and very neat and clean. Jimmy our waiter was attentive and helpful and very try personable. The food food was delicious and very enjoyable and so different and cool. We will definitely go again and try some new items but everything we had was great and vegan and delectable Thank you Mifan / Johnny Chu for a great experience

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite to eat at lunchtime before a visit to the Phoenix Art Museum (directly across Central). Food was delightful and the server was so friendly and welcoming. It was our first visit but definitely won't be our last! Flavors in the Chicken bao tacos were bright, fresh and had just the right amount of spice.

Yelp
We have been on the hunt of peppercorn noodles in phoenix for a very long time and finally came across Mifan! We had the spicy udon as well as the garlic sizzling tofu. The spicy udon was absolutely delicious and I wish we just ordered multiple of those because the garlic sizzling tofu was not as fulfilling. The service was pretty good, they were attentive throughout. I felt that they were not fully able to answer questions about the menu though. Lastly, I loved the ambiance, we came pretty early but it became crowded later in the evening even on a weekday. It was open airy with great decor, definitely my type of vibe. Will be back for the udon noodles!

Yelp
Americanized randomization of Asian ish foods. Not claypots except 1 dish It was ok, if you want authentic, go elsewhere. Waiter was friendly. None of the food is authentic, they took some really authentic food and Americanized it while making weird changes. For instance, they use celery carrots and purple onion in the black dragon. My black bean sauce was just random sauce from chop suey, no black bean or garlic taste. No clay pot rice here, it's just regular rice on the side. Also they gave me broccoli, it was decent. Bo zai fan, the most authentic dish had broccoli, the American kind, and the rice was not very crispy. Hk typhoon is supposed to be claypot but was just rice on the side w deep fried chicken in seasonings, which were decent but why is it in a claypot at all, it could have just been in a dish. Don't use the sauce, it makes it worse. Place is hipster vibes and serves cucumber spa water. Park in muse apartments, go inside and get the promo code for 2 free hours. Know your license plate.

Yelp
The food was really good here!! My friends and I ordered a couple of items for the table to share and we were excited about how much vegetarian/vegan items were available on the menu. The bao buns were nice and crispy and came with a tangy dipping sauce. The tofu in the main dishes also had a battered layer that was pretty good. The restaurant is smaller but it was a nice space and didn't feel over crowded.

Yelp
I've been to like at least 20 to 30 restaurants in the downtown area and this is the best by far. Please go here and no I don't know anybody there and don't own the place lol but it's really freaking good trust me. I haven't had one thing bad on the menu everything has been good and really tasty and totally different than anything you can get anywhere else because of the way they cook it and the chef knows what ingredients to add. Literally everything is good on the menu
google avatar

Jace D.

Yelp
They were out of multiple things on the menu as in almost everything we tried to order they didn't have. Chicken bao, shrimp bao, every red wine we wanted. Gyoza and fried cauliflower were ones you can get anywhere. Tasted like they came from a frozen bag. The clay pot meal we had was almost inedible. Unfortunate but this place was so bad. Also, parking is awful.

Yelp
Haven't been here in awhile but looking forward to going back. The food was delicious and service was friendly. It's dog friendly so we sat outside which we enjoyed the space there too.

Yelp
Interesting concept: Asian fusion centred around claypot dishes, along with soups and appetizers, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. I was hungry, so I started with the hot & sour soup with tofu ($10), and got the Mala Spices claypot ($15) for my main. The soup came out after about 20 minutes. It was quite sour, moderately sweet, was not like any authentic hot & soup I've had, but was tasty enough. I wish it had more substance, as the veggies and tofu were pretty sparse. 3/5 The claypot came shortly after with a side of steamed broccoli and steamed rice. The claypot included deep fried tofu, onions, carrot, and celery, and was smothered in a sweet, savoury sauce that was slightly too sweet for me but otherwise tasty. 3/5 Service was friendly but slow. The restaurant itself is very comfortable, feeling slightly upscale despite the moderate prices. Decent spot.

Yelp
What a wonderful place to go for some really tasty food. My main dish was the sweet basil clay pot with chicken. It was incredible. We had a selection of appetizers so we could experience a number of different flavors. The cauliflower was delicious. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable. Parking was an experience as we missed the turn the first time around. There are quite a few spaces but it could be a challenge on Friday and Saturday night. The drinks were all good. Although the restaurant is quite brightly lit, it is still inviting and you can definitely see what you are eating. Try this restaurant, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
This is an interesting Asian fusion restaurant on the ground floor of Muse Apartments. It's located next to Forno 301 and can be a bit difficult to see from the street. Parking is primarily available through Muse's parking lot. There are a few outdoor uncovered parking spots available for retail customers (which can make things tricky if there are a lot of people trying to get to Forno as well), and you have to validate your parking by scanning a QR code near the front of the restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is upscale and modern, and service was very attentive. I was seated pretty quickly on a weekday evening. I got the sweet basil claypot as well as the spinach bao. The claypot was tasty and flavorful, though I do wish the portion size was slightly bigger. The spinach bao was disappointing, as it seemed to be frozen bao you could get from the supermarket that was just fried. Overall, I feel like the quality of the food does not match the price. If you have a craving for Asian food, this is a decent spot, but I personally prefer other places in Midtown/Uptown over Mifan.

Yelp
So, so tasty! Everything that I tasted was so yummy. I decided that I had to eat a Claypot of something (after all it's in the name), but there's a lot of good option on the menu if you want a soup too or something else. My HK claypot of chicken seemed to kick up in spicy as I ate to the bottom! Very good flavor. I also enjoyed the cauliflower dish. I could also totally get hooked on the blueberry cider (I love blueberries) and this was so tasty!! Waitstaff members were wonderful!

Yelp
I had the sweet basil Claypot with tofu and it was so delicious! Everything was cooked perfectly. I love that they have so many great vegan options. My server was awesome and I really like the cool, modern vibe inside. I'm definitely coming back to try more of the vegan dishes.

Yelp
Mifan has been on my long list of places I want to try for quite some time. I am glad that I finally was able to! Let me preface with, the parking situation is decent. I noticed some reviews mentioned that was a disadvantage, however there are some designated areas in the garage. We had no issue finding a pot for a little later than usual dinner hour (7PM or so). The space itself offers modern and trendy ambiance, atypical, but appreciated for Chinese cuisine. There is a variety of art displayed throughout the restaurant. Service was friendly and attentive. We started with the Spinach Bao. It was crispy and very different, unique in the glaze. The filling was quite plain, and the dipping sauce was complementary, however nothing too special. Moving on to the Lemongrass noodle soup...flavor was good, a bit spicier than I expected, but it hit the spot. Again though, it was not something that I felt was too special. Lastly, we got the sweet basil claypot. By far the best dish we had that evening. I love basil and this combo was perfect! Flavors meshed well. I love that so many options can be made vegan/vegetarian. A good first experience. Will be back for sure!

Yelp
Plenty spicy, even the drinks. I had the pad thai martini and the spicy mama martini and both were delicious and refreshing but both came with some heat in the back of your mouth. Neither were a full martini though. We tried the crispy goyza and it was very good and the dipping sauce (also spicy) was very good. We also had the truffle edamame and loved it. The truffle game the edamame a nice velvety texture in your mouth. Main course, we split the sizzling shrimp - again, some really nice heat and very flavorful. Red bean donut for dessert and it was a sweet ending to our meal, but I probably wouldn't order again. We parked at Phoenix Theatre and walked over, otherwise I have no idea where you'd park and we went on a Wednesday around 5:30 and got right in.

Yelp
Food: 3 | Service: 2 | Ambiance: 5 It was okay. The atomosphere is cool, but that's about it. The portions are quite small and the service was rather slow and unfriendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Not terrible not great. I live close by but not close enough where I wanted to walk. The parking is small and limited as it's shared with Muse apartments guest parking so we ended up parking behind the apartments on the street.... Not ideal. After making a walk into the building, they were busy, but we were seated rather quickly. It was very loud inside, therefore, making it not an intimate environment, but more of a place to gather with friends and acquaintances. Our server was amazing. Very very friendly. I was attracted to mifan, because it has so many vegan options. Sadly, I was not impressed with the dishes or options. It would appear that they have a rotating menu or they have made changes to it many of times over the last several years. Things that I saw on their website and yelp, we're not being offered the evening that I showed up. It could be because it wasn't a weekend, who knows?! I got the spinach boa, which the exterior and the dipping sauce really good, but the inside spinach was rather bland. I ordered the healthy vegan or healthy vegetarian as my entrée. It was OK. I wish it was a lot bigger especially for the price. as for the other dishes, my dates enjoyed the pork Gyoza dumplings, but other than that no one really loved the dishes. If they revamp their menu again I may consider giving them another try.

Yelp
Located on the first floor of the Muse building at the corner. There's about 4 spots reserved for Mifan on the left. If you pass this and go inside the Muse structure then park on the first floor that says Retail only or go to the very top floor where it's marked visitors on the floor. Then take the elevator down and walk towards the street. You'll see the red umbrella for the outdoor patio. I love that this place has mostly vegetarian items and you can customize to add protein of tofu/chicken/shrimp. There are five claypot options but three of them are spicy and my mom cant't handle spice so we got the House Dynamite and Cantonese Black Dragon. The server said the Mala Spice claypot and Spicy udon noodle are the spiciest dish. I got both with tofu and it came out sizzling hot and both came with a side of rice and broccoli. The tofu is lightly deep fried. So good! The house dynamite was a sweet and sour sauce and the Black Dragon was a black bean sauce. Both came with the same vegetables except the house dynamite came with pineapple and one cherry tomato cut in half while the black dragon came with white mushrooms. Whenever I see clay pot, I think of egg plant. I hope they add egg plant to their menu in the future. Their clay pots are mostly the same vegetables in all 5 just with different sauce.
google avatar

Kelly V.

Yelp
Lovely experience! The fried tofu app was delicious as was the spinach bao. My clay pot with tofu and mala spices was wonderful. Service was good. My friend's drink was too spicy so they remade it for her. The only hiccup was that my friend offered shrimp and got chicken. Great Central Phoenix restaurant and the location is super convenient for seeing a show at Playhouse on the Park.
google avatar

Dolores D.

Yelp
Really good food. Expanded our palette's today. We got crispy chicken dumplings and soup gyoza to start off with. For our main dishes we got Ma Jiang Mein, also got chicken in it. Also got house dynamite, it was delicious as well. For dessert we got beignets. Super delicious! We parked by the muse apartments.

Yelp
I was thrilled to finally try Mifan Claypot as it's been on my radar since inception. The interior of the restaurant was cool and I liked the way they designed and incorporated colorful and dull tile to create an eclectic environment. We ordered cauliflower lollipops and crispy tofu for appetizers. Both were delicious and came with the same special sauce. The special sauce was good but I would have preferred a different taste for each. Not a fan of a one trick pony. I ordered the Thai basal Claypot which was excellent. The tofu was tasty and broth was flavourful and rich. Portion size was generous. I would have brought have home if I had better self control. We ordered 2 beniegs for desert as we overheard our waiter hyping them up to the adjacent table. They tasted a little artificially to me, exactly like my strawberry protein powder. When I come back I'd definitely try a different Claypot as the menu is extensive and creative.

Yelp
Delicious place to eat - always hits the spot and every dish has been a hit. Anyone I take there leaves a fan.

Yelp
"Delicious" is a word that barely describes the level of experience I had with the food at Mifan. I can whole heartedly say, hands down, without a doubt that this is the best crispy tofu I have had, EVER. The entire menu base at Mifan is vegan; sauces, spices, ingredients and if you stick to the OMFG Amazing tofu (at least that's what I'm calling it), your whole meal can be vegan here. I had the crispy tofu appetizer and the Cantonese Black Dragon as the main. Is it presumptuous to declare the Cantonese Black Dragon as the best item on the menu without eating anything else on the menu? Who knows, but I'm here to declare the Cantonese Black Dragon is the best thing on the menu anyways, it was so so delicious - that sauce is on fire! Not fire because it's spicy, it just has; to quote all those people who know more about food than I do, umami! with a bit of sweet and a touch of spice. I live about 2 miles from this spot, which is close enough to go whenever I want, but far enough that I won't be tempted to eat here for breakfast, lunch AND dinner, every single day of the week. This has quickly surpassed most everything on my list of favorite spots to dine vegan and I'm certain that it will keep top billing for a very long time!

Yelp
Mifan Claypot Kitchen serves Asian Claypot cookery in Midtown Phoenix. The menu isn't all vegan but many vegan dishes are offered. They are located across from the Art Museum and parking is easy because they are next to a parking garage. It's modern beautiful and sleek inside. I did notice that they also have a small patio for when the weather is nice. We started with a few appetizers the cauliflower lollipops and the hand made soup gyoza. The cauliflower lollipops were light, tender crisp and tasty. They sure didn't even seem like they were fried. My husband enjoyed the soup gyoza. He said that they were the best ones that he has tried. For our mains we had the clay pots called, sweet basil (w/chicken), and mala spice (w/chicken). The chicken in both dishes was MAGICALLY tender and was delicious. Even the steamed broccoli on the side was tender and sweet. Both dishes were very good but I did prefer the sweet basil with the fresh basil in it. I had to squeeze in an Asian strawberry beignet. I've had beignets from New Orleans but these are very different but also a sweet ending. Everyone there was engaging, attentive and welcoming. Dining here is really a great value. Prices are very low for such good quality masterfully prepared food. I highly recommend Mifan Claypot Kitchen.

Yelp
Food was incredible! I absolutely loved the cauliflower lollipops, soy broccoli and the Truffle butter edemame Highly recommend the Saigon kiss cocktail, 2 made the night perfect. Service by Patrick rocked!!! He was bartending, serving and hosting this entire restaurant on his own! Give this man a raise!!! Thank you for making our friend's Birthday special!

Yelp
We were debating between sushi or this spot, and I am SO glad we chose to visit Mifan. The soup dumplings???? My god... I think about them still. Were I to take up celibacy from hereon out, the soup dumplings would satisfy me for life. A DELIGHT. I cannot wax poetic enough about them. Both my man and I decided that - as edamame connoisseurs - these were some of the best edamame we've had in the city. The crispy white fish wasn't particularly impressive, but I'm also not an avid fried fish gal. We ordered the HK Typhoon-style clay pot which rounded out the whole meal. It's a great location; the ambiance inside was very modernistic - slightly in contrast with the traditional nature of the food, but there were touches of the south-Asian influence throughout. Our server was perfectly attentive and friendly. Overall, we will be coming back to try everything else.

Yelp
New place here and they are so great! Went here for a friend's birthday. They don't have their liquor license yet, but the food experience rocked! I enjoyed the soup dumplings and we've tried several dishes which were great! Vegan friendly too! There's a parking garage to the side which is also a parking garage for the apartments that's there, but we had no issue parking.

Yelp
As we sat down at Mifan today, we told the server we didn't really need the menus because "we're Johnny stalkers." He totally understood what we meant, having worked with Chef Johnny Chu since Fate (which is where we first tasted the Chef's amazing sauces. We are beyond happy to say, Mifan may very well be the best of the Chu restaurant adventures so far! The most exciting upgrade is that the menu has clearly marked vegan items! And, our server said each item is prepared individually in its own claypot, so there's no longer a cross contamination concern with the fried tofu! Yeay for being totally vegan friendly! Happily, the fried tofu appetizer is still a Chef Chu staple. The updated version is much more bountiful (a full bowl of fried tofu) and is served with peanut dipping sauce that reminds me of the old "Sochu" dipping sauce. For the entrees, we went with an old favorite, sweet basil claypot with tofu; and tried a new item, mala spices claypot with tofu. The entrees arrived sizzling hot, with the sauce/veggies on the bottom, tofu on top. It's too hard for me to describe the sauces with much detail other than the basil dish was sweeter and the mala dish was more savory and a bit saltier - probably the celery. Both were delicious. The portions were also generous enough for us to take home leftovers. The restaurant space is similar to some prior locations - a long, thin room with modern furnishings. There is also patio dining. It looks like there's a private dining room but I didn't explore the area on my first visit. They don't have a liquor license yet, but it's in process. Parking warning: Mifan is at the bottom of an apartment complex along with other restaurants, and the retail parking spaces are limited. They only have a couple of dedicated spaces for Mifan, but may have better tips for where to park if you contact them. At least it's close to the light rail. My mouth is so happy!

Yelp
I 10/10 LOVE this place. Personally as a single girlie who lives alone and works full-time I don't always have the energy to cook. I LOVE swinging by Mifan Claypot Kitchen for a comfort food meal on stressful work days. They are so quick for to-go orders and the prices are so reasonable for the quality and taste it is altogether just PERFECT & SO DELICIOUS! Call ahead and park in the Muse lot with your hazards on to run in and pick up your order! (Of course dining in is lovely as well) but I personally love getting Mifan TO-GO! 10/10 try Mifan for a delicious and filling flavorful meal!

Yelp
I have wanted to try this place since they opened, and it was so good. Everything was delicious and you order all at once, but they bring it out one thing at a time so you don't feel rushed at all. The flavors were amazing. The service was excellent. Jon and Parker took care of us and they were awesome. We ordered 1 million different things, and it was still pretty reasonable. We will absolutely be back a LOT. I highly recommend the shrimp bao buns, the buns were soooo soft and fluffy, my husband loved the soup gyoza, and we tried two clay pot dishes and both were incredible. Everything is so flavorful. When you walk in, the smell alone lets you know its going to be great. I'm guessing you can't go wrong with anything on the menu

Yelp
Mifan is an awesome little restaurant! I've been several times with groups of friends. They're great because they offer vegan and vegetarian options along with meat, so no matter who is in the group, there's something for them to eat. They have my favorite tofu in town, they fry their tofu perfectly every time. Additionally, they offer many different tasty sauce options. They also have xiao long bao, which I love! The only downside is it's a bit pricey, but I think it's worth it. If you haven't tried them yet, definitely do so!

John L.

Yelp
Excellent food. Unique. Delicious. Healthy, a true chef. Great location, you can always get in to eat. Of you tired of fighting the town crowd and want excellent food, you need to check this out. Thank you guys at Mifan, great restaurant

Yelp
[3.8/5.0] Comfort food spot for sure. I got the 煲仔飯 (Bo Zai Fan). The rice was perfect, it added so much texture to the dish. The crispy rice that i had to scrape off the side of the pot was delicious. Chinese cured sausage was fire as well. It's inauthentic, but that's not a bad thing because the technique to making this dish is there. I feel like this dish could've had more. It was underwhelming and looked a bit sad in the picture. Maybe I'm just a bad photographer as well haha. Flavors were there though but I likely would not come back again.

Yelp
Absolute hidden gem. I first found out about this place through Groupon. I am so glad I did. I liked it so much that I went twice within one week with my boyfriend. For appetizers we tried lollipop cauliflower, crispy tofu and edamame. They were all delicious. I especially liked the truffle butter on the edamame. For entries I tried the udon noodles my first time and the second time I tried the Thai basil. The Thai basil was by far the winner. Served in a claypot it was sizzling hot. The sauce was so flavorful. They only have one dessert option which are beignet with a strawberry sauce, I wasn't a fan. Service was good. On both days it wasn't too busy so I really hope more people come and support this local business. I will surely be coming back.

Yelp
My wife and I really enjoyed our lunch at Mifan Claypot Kitchen, a wonderful little Asian Bistro featuring claypot cooking a traditional cooking method used throughout Southeast Asia, which circulates steam and moisture through the claypot as a healthy way to cook using less oil. The interior is cute, featuring hand painted animation artwork. The menu is simple but packed with flavor. We tried the French pate toast Bao for an appetizer, a buttery toasted rice bao bun served with a side of French pate. We both had the Cantonese Black Dragon style shrimp stir-fried in a garlic black bean sauce with white mushrooms, carrots, baby corn, celery, and red onions served with a side of broccoli and steamed white rice which was delicious. They offer vegan/vegetarian options with tofu and shrimp and chicken as proteins. Well worth the visit, we will be back soon they also have a Groupon available for extra savings. Be careful when parking they have a very confusing parking situation that you must download a QR code to validate. Just know if you receive a parking ticket, it is not from the city of Phoenix, so you can probably ignore it !

Yelp
Johnny Chu's still got it! Delicious food, great presentation, fairly priced and perfectly portioned. You won't find a better restaurant in Phoenix for Asian fusion. Soup dumplings on par with Din Tai Fung. House Dynamite still perfect. Best fried tofu dish the world over. Great atmosphere, highly recommend!

Yelp
Good food but the parking is a pain in the ass and the staff have zero hustle in their game. I arrived at 11:30 AM and while he was very nice, the only person working in the dining room at the time was *way* too chill, as in, I just smoked an entire gram of flower by myself chill. I was the second person in the restaurant for lunch and he didn't even approach me with a menu and water until eight other groups had been seated (22 minutes once I started paying attention). At that point he finally went and got some help but it was still incredibly slow service. Luckily I wasn't in a hurry, I had the soup dumplings and a completely unmemorable main entrée. I literally couldn't tell you what I ate three days ago it was so generic. The food tasted fine, the soup dumplings were actually very very good, but for the price and level of service, it's just a miss for me. If I lived local I definitely would not be back sadly.

Yelp
I have heard many good things about this place and was excited to try it. Luckily it did not disappoint. We tried the soup gyoza, crispy pork gyoza, Cantonese black dragon with chicken, house dynamite with tofu and the beignets. Everything was full of flavor and delicious. I loved the hint of lemongrass in the soup gyoza sauce. It was a nice surprise. The interior of the restaurant was hip and fit with the downtown aesthetic. The only downfall is that they do not have alcohol. Hopefully that will be an option after they have been open for a little longer. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Found this place on a whim actually walking by heading to a "different" restaurant! So glad we changed our mind and walked in here! Service was great! Sat at the bar and waiter/bartender was great, manager checked on us and the Chef even came out to see how we liked everything!! Will definitely return next time I'm back in Phoenix!

Yelp
Alright, so, my hopes were HIGH that I would no longer have to drive to Scottsdale for a delicious, hot claypot of rice, protein and veggies. Don't get me wrong, everything I ate at Mifan was great, but, a few too many things were off to substitute my favorite place across town. The Good: - the atmosphere - I was feeling the decor, the music, the temperature setting. I 100% felt like I was at a chic Asian fusion restaurant in Copenhagen. - everything we were served tasted awesome. - cooling cucumber water was a thoughtful touch to offset spicy food. - service was nice, could tell they were really making an effort to make a good first impression. The Disappointing - only one dish on the menu included CRISPY rice in a clay pot, and it was a Chinese sausage dish. Other claypots are served with the rice on the side. - two of us ordered the sweet basil claypot because the first veggie listed was white beech mushroom. I had just a few of these skinny mushrooms in my tofu pot. We were not able to identify ANY mushrooms in our chicken pot, just a whole lot of onions. - "sweet basil" was much more spicy than expected. Spice was noted on the menu, just wasn't expecting that level of heat in a sweet sauce. - sizzling shrimp dish was served with tails on the shrimp - imagine the awkwardness if you were on a date or at a business lunch or dinner. - a vegetarian- and even vegan-friendly menu but with limited veggie appetizers (tofu before your tofu, anyone? or the ubiquitous cauliflower). Please, we want gyoza!! - no liquor license yet (April 2022) - not really an issue for me but for others in my party. But how about a couple mocktails or a homemade flavored lemonade on the menu in the meantime? So, this place is just really unique from anywhere I have been in Phoenix. I hope its vibe and food will be appealing enough to this market and that it's here in the long-term. Also hope I can update to a 5 star review one day.

Yelp
I really hate to have witnessed this tonight but the chef (not sure if he is also the owner) was completely out of line for how he was speaking to and berating the ONLY server for the night ! I heard him yell the servers name multiple times, put him down, cuss at him and tell him to hurry up, basically yelling everything he did wrong and 'he doesn't listen to him' to say I was shocked is an understatement. I sat there almost in tears, I felt so bad. I plan to call tomorrow to see if I can speak to a manager or the owner and tell them about this because it isn't right and now I no longer want to support this restaurant. This review has nothing to do with their food because it is really good but the treatment of the employees!!! I hate that that happened, people don't deserve that while trying to do their job while also being the ONLY server.

Yelp
Tried this place for lunch today. Amazing! Everything we had was good, but the Healthy Asian was one of the best sauces I've ever had on a dish. Crazy good. I already want to go back. The cauliflower lollipop was also particularly good. The server was incredibly friendly and helpful. He's also the one who suggested the Healthy Asian dish. Just a great experience all the way around. My wife and I loved it and will definitely return with friends.

Yelp
This is the best restaurant! Hands down my favorite restaurant. The flavors are so fresh and unique, also the tofu is WAY to good. I actually hate tofu and the chef makes it so special. You will not regret coming to this place. The eggplant is phenomenal as well !!!

Yelp
We went there with high expectations and wished I could give it more stars..... We ordered the hot and sour soup and it was not great. The soup was way too sour with boring flavor. The authentic hot and sour should be thick with egg flowers. I went to many different Asian restaurants in the valley and honestly this one was the worst. We ended up replace it with lemongrass soup after first sip, however, it was no better, compared with the lemongrass soup we had in Thai restaurants. As for the buns and gyozas, they were not homemade...big disappointment. I used to buy the same buns in the grocery store and steam them at home and they were much cheaper. The main point was not the price. Homemade buns would tasted much better and authentic than the ones sold in groceries store. I could tell the dramatic difference since I was growing up eating a variety of buns. Bozaifan is ok, but I could tell the sausage is not homemade by the chef (as far as I could tell) neither. I bought this kind of sausage in Asian groceries(Hmart in Mesa or 99 Ranch in Chandler) frequently and steamed them at home. It was pretty simple to cook, just steam the processed sausage with rice and mixed them. Well, the whole point was to have authentic Asian food turned out many items were "reprocessed" from the grocery store. The only thing I would compliment is that the restaurant looked chic and clean. However, for me it's like to put the cart before the horse. Without authentic food, anything else was just for show. I had a pleasant conversation with the waiter however, I simple could not give the food more stars. Huge disappointment and will not come back. Not recommended in my opinion.
