Montreal’s Best Steakhouses and Grill Restaurants for Surf and Turf | Eater Montreal

"This Little Burgundy restaurant’s small menu specializes in one thing: steak frites made with grilled entrecôte, fries, and their own secret sauce. Coming from Montreal restaurateur Thomas Vernis and chef Patrick Marion, the sleek spot picks up where L’Entrecôte Saint-Jean — a popular steak frites spot in downtown Montreal — left off after it shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic." - JP Karwacki

Great mignon steak, very soft and tender, great sauce, surprisingly the fries were much better then I thought. Very flavourful. The machine and cheese is very nice to try. Would recommend to come with a group. The basement is the Negroni lounge. Very comfortable seating, nice atmosphere 👌 no photo of the steak cause it's too good to leave anything left 😀 ordered a martini too. Very nicely done.

Popped in for some buck a shuck oysters, grilled shrimp and some drinks. Food was amazing and very reasonably priced. Atmosphere is super welcoming but the thing that stood out the most was the service. Montreal restaurants aren’t really known for great service but this place is an anomaly. If you want great food and genuine GREAT service Mignon is the place!

Absolutely amazing time at this place. Our waiter was lively and informative, the atmosphere was welcoming but not boring, and the food was delicious. The sweet potato soup is definitely on my top 5 list of best soups. Real cream was used, and that's a sign of a good soup. The cream puff for dessert was was like creamy air covered in decadent chocolate. Worth the table d'hote just for this. Now for the one negative thing I have to say about here. While my steak was cooked to perfection and flavourful, I am not used to having McCain style fries with a higher end steak frites. Especially in Montreal of all places, you would expect fresh fries? But maybe that's just me. Worth a visit, and I will definitely go back. Especially after trying my friend's rack of lamb.

cozy atmosphere & warm decor Delicious i loved the pepper sauce that arrived with my filet mignon. I am very satisfied and thrilled to have found this gem. I highly recommend Mignon Stake to anyone looking for a great dining experience. I can't wait to return!

We came in off the street for some apps and drinks before heading elsewhere for dinner, so we didn't get a chance to try their steak (which is their signature) so please keep that in mind with this review. Our review: The cocktails were good, the oysters were fresh, and it is a very cute place, with nice interiors and a cozy vibe. Why only three stars? The service wasn't great. It wasn't busy or anything but our server seemed to forget about us. We would go back though to try the steak because the other reviews seem to say good things!

I had a great experience at Mignon Steak Vieux-Montréal, overall. The service was attentive, and the atmosphere was on point. We sat in the Negroni Room, which was cozy with low lighting and great music. The food was enjoyable, for the most part. The onion soup was solid, and the mac and cheese stood out—it was cheesy and had a nice crunch from the breadcrumbs, which made it a little different from the usual versions I’ve had. Also had green peas. Definitely worth trying. As for the steak frites, the sirloin cut was tasty, but I’d recommend asking for the sauce on the side. While the sauce was flavorful, it completely covered the steak and masked its natural taste. The fries were a fun surprise—they were almost identical to McDonald’s fries in both smell and taste, which I actually thought was kind of cool. That said, the biggest letdown was the steak being served cold. It’s such a shame because steak is always best sizzling, and you’d expect that at a restaurant like this. It threw off the dish for me a bit, which was disappointing. All in all, the service, food, and vibes made it a good spot to visit. A little more attention to the details would make it even better.

Walked into the place off the street and was greeted by our server. Right from the start he made us feel like it was a choir or service us. Didn’t like when we said we didn’t like the wine and asked for an alternative which he reluctantly provided. Ordered the food which was extremely good, when presented with the bill we were charged for their premium steak which we didn’t ask for. He was quite rude and said he would charge us for one of the original steaks. His comments were you ate it so you should pay. But anyway food was great service not so.

I have been there about 4 times now, it's often a hit or miss, depends on the day. The food is tasty enough however the fries air on the salty side but are crispy and thin if you like that, steak came out burnt on the outside 2 out 4 times however the sauce is heavenly, the profiterole was also burnt once on the bottom, oysters are very small compared to other restaurants so not really worth the price. Service is quite slow. It took three and half hours with a reservation for the 3 course host table, yet there were not busy as there was only 2 people at a table that already had their dishes when I came and one person at the bar.
