I had a great experience at Mignon Steak Vieux-Montréal, overall. The service was attentive, and the atmosphere was on point. We sat in the Negroni Room, which was cozy with low lighting and great music.
The food was enjoyable, for the most part. The onion soup was solid, and the mac and cheese stood out—it was cheesy and had a nice crunch from the breadcrumbs, which made it a little different from the usual versions I’ve had. Also had green peas. Definitely worth trying.
As for the steak frites, the sirloin cut was tasty, but I’d recommend asking for the sauce on the side. While the sauce was flavorful, it completely covered the steak and masked its natural taste. The fries were a fun surprise—they were almost identical to McDonald’s fries in both smell and taste, which I actually thought was kind of cool.
That said, the biggest letdown was the steak being served cold. It’s such a shame because steak is always best sizzling, and you’d expect that at a restaurant like this. It threw off the dish for me a bit, which was disappointing.
All in all, the service, food, and vibes made it a good spot to visit. A little more attention to the details would make it even better.
