Where To Dine Along The District Line

"There are few things as comforting in the restaurant world as a good French bistro . The simplicity of their offering, from the warm, unglitzy décor to the pared-back cooking, makes them feel homely and accessible. Mignonette is the perfect example, ideal for Francophones with its hearty classical cuisine, and great value too – with the set lunch menu an absolute steal. Even better, it’s just a short walk from the renowned Kew Gardens, a must-visit for anyone travelling to London." - Andrew Young

"How lucky are the residents of Kew? Not only do they have the world-famous gardens on their doorstep, but they’re also the beneficiaries of this terrific little restaurant. Simple, homely and French to its core, this is the epitome of a neighbourhood bistro. The cooking is uncomplicated, hearty fare; bookend your meal with the homemade bread and the pear tarte Tatin, which is well worth the 20-minute wait. Come in the day for the exceptionally well-priced lunch menu, where the dishes are just as delicious and generous." - Michelin Inspector

London’s New Restaurant Openings

"Richmond locals are getting a neighbourhood bistro—Mignonette. Expect butcher’s plates piled with stuffed pig’s trotters, calves sweetbreads, and ox cheek bordelaise, as well as shallot tatins with vegan blue cheese. There’ll also be a very reasonable £19 three-course set lunch on weekdays, and a three-course Sunday lunch for £25. We recently checked out Mignonette. Read our first thoughts here.   " - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Mignonette Bistro - Review - Richmond - London - The Infatuation

"For a well-priced meal in a charming location (on a leafy, village-like street in Richmond), Mignonette Bistro is a good option. Well-dressed locals and couples fill up the French restaurant, but we were left wanting the odd linen napkin here and some sexier lighting there to create a bit of a mood. But that’s Mignonette. It’s not a ‘pick me’ kind of restaurant. The leather seats and stripped-back space match the food, which is elegant and classic. There are some thoughtful and tasty vegan options too, like the courgette flower filled with vegan goat cheese and the shallot tatin. While meals here won’t blow you away, Mignonette is a solid choice for a Richmond date night, or for the person in your life who appreciates a perfectly rolled rabbit roulade. photo credit: Jamie Jignovese photo credit: Jamie Jignovese Food Rundown Duck Fat Brioche With Selection Of Pâté And Terrines, Plum Confit Five different pâtés are presented and explained to you. Which, if you’re anything like us, you’ll forget after a few mouthfuls. From then on, it’s a game of meaty roulette. Which is OK because they’re all delicious. We liked the coarser ham hock and the duck studded with orange best. But the bread was bland. photo credit: Jamie Jignovese Courgette Flower, Goats Cheese, Asparagus, Peas, Basil Aioli We swore to never eat vegan cheese again after a cauliflower pizza incident. But this redeems the entire genre of vegan cheese. It's tangy and creamy, and works well with the fresh, crisp asparagus and rich basil aioli. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Grilled Rabbit, Roast Garlic, Peas A La Francaise, Sauce Cassoulet Savoury bits of salty bacon and sweet onion mixed with buttery peas are always going to be a winner when done well—and this one is. The rest of the dish is a mix of comforting beige things—bean stew, mash, gravy, rabbit. While nothing is bad, it’s not particularly exciting or memorable. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Crêpe Soufflé The inside of this soufflé is almost like candy floss: it’s so light and fluffy that it melts away to nothing with just a few bites. The outside is pleasingly slightly crispier in contrast. We just wished the flavour had been as memorable as the texture—sadly it was a bit bland. PlayMute video credit: Sinéad Cranna Complimentary Canelé With White Chocolate And Olives This free dessert was the best sweet treat. The micro canelés have a spongy centre and crystallised, sugary crust. The addition of white chocolate shards with bits of olive running through was inspired—the tangy, salty olives tempering the sweetness. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna" - Sinéad Cranna

Fantastic cooking and fantastic value at £32 for three courses for deservedly Michelin rated cooked. I’d struggle to find a better priced and quality Sunday lunch anywhere. Given the price, I’d expected small portions but they were generous and delicious.

The food was absolutely delicious, I’d recommend to everyone!! The staff were wonderful. Really friendly, attentive, and incredibly helpful. The location is also fantastic as it’s just a few minutes from the station. I also really appreciated the use of quality ingredients sourced from across the UK, like Cornish lamb and Hereford steak. Absolutely lovely restaurant!!

A hidden gem! Lovely food, excellent service — such a great restaurant. The quail starter was exceptional. And their Sunday roast was equally excellent. The best part is it’s such great value for money! Our server was Nepalese and so so lovely.

One of the best meals I’ve ever had - every dish was mouthwatering. We ordered the sashimi and crab to start and the sea bass and chicken for main and can’t wait to be back to try their regular menu. The service was also perfect and they were great about my gluten allergy, bringing gluten free bread and telling me what was suitable on the menu (most of it). It was very reasonably priced too!

Absolutely everything you could want from a neighbourhood bistro. And if you’re not lucky enough to live round the corner from Mignonette, well worth travelling for. After four meals here, I can safely say this is a restaurant that is consistently good. The lunch menu is probably the best bargain in London. I’d mention a quail/duck confit terrine, marinated sardines, calves liver, pork loin and apple sauce, the burnt orange basque cheesecake, the madeleine…. Except that everything on the short, seasonal menu is first rate. The bread is perfect and the marmite butter just divine. There’s a good list of wine by the glass, which like the food menu, has lots that you actually want to drink. We even had dessert wine. It’s that sort of place. You feel happy and relaxed. The service is warm, unpretentious and genuine. Mignonette is bound to be busy over the festive period and deservedly so. But I’ll be making sure to eat here as often as possible in the dog days of January.

Fantastic food! Delicious food that is well-presented. I took my husband for a birthday meal. Recommend the white crab meat salad to start! Loved the complementary canelés and black olive white chocolate shards that came with our desserts - first time I have tried both things and they were delicious. The restaurant is cosy but service was attentive and quick. Recommended and will definitely return... I feel lucky to live only 15 mins walk away :)

This place is rather cute looking from the outside and is on quite a busy road. We sat by the open window so there was some background noise from the traffic which wasn’t ideal as one of our party was a little deaf in one ear. The bread was delicious but we were divided on the ‘cultured’ butter. I just love butter so I was happy… The menu is interesting. Interesting in that it gently pushes you to probably eat things you don’t usually encounter. For example, the steak came with a snail. There was also rabbit and pigeon on the menu. I played it relatively safe and went for the scallops to start (I could have eat several plates of this!) and the halibut which was perfectly cooked. We had a tough decision with the desserts - it’s rare that there’s so many things on the menu I’m tempted by. So I went halves and tried the madeleines with sea salted hot chocolate sauce and the orange basque cheesecake. The madeleines marginally pipped the cheesecake to the post! Staff were attentive and professional and inside it’s cosy.

Taste good, cook with heart, busy lunch time. Booking will help. Nose is noticible. Can I give 2 suggestions: 1. If the main come with some carbohydrate will make the meal prefect. e.g. rice, noodle, chip etc 2. When the plate is serve, can I know what are those?
