After doing a bit of research on fried chicken places in the Dallas area I decided to give Mike's a try since it seemed to get very good reviews for the most part.
I got there on a Saturday morning a few minutes after they opened and was third in line. It's a simple dining area, and was very clean which is appreciated.
The service was good, at least as far as my order went. However, the two parties that were ahead of me in line had to wait forever to get their food. Not sure if it was because they had larger orders or what, but one party (three adults and two children) got their food about a half hour or so after they ordered it, and the other party (two adults and two children) still hadn't got their food when I finished eating mine and left the place about 45 minutes later. And during that 45 minutes quite a few other customers came in, ordered, and got their food. I wonder how long that first party had to wait before finally getting their meals. Puzzling ...
The 4 piece tender meal is what I ordered, with the two sides being baked beans and french fries. It also comes with one biscuit. The total (with no drink) came out to a little over $14.
About 15 minutes later my order was ready, and I picked up the food along with some ranch dressing and Mike's Sauce as the two dips for the chicken.
The fries were good. Crunchy on the outside, hot on the inside, and not overly salted like fries can be at some fast food places.
The baked beans were quite good. Very flavorful and went well with the chicken.
And the chicken? It was also quite good. Not the best I've ever had, but the quality of the meat was excellent and juicy. The breading was a little thicker than I prefer, but at least it wasn't ridiculously over battered like another fast food's chicken was that I visited recently, and the size of the tenders were reasonable.
The ranch dip was ok, pretty typical ranch dressing, and the Mike's dip had a nice flavor to it. The two cups were quite small though, and even though I used the dips sparingly on the 4 chicken tenders (and sometimes just ate the chicken with no dip) I ended up using every last drop of both dips l and wished I'd been allowed a bit more. Apparently you can order more but it's 50 cents each if you want to do that.
The biscuit was not bad. Moist enough to keep from being too crumbly, it went well with the rest of the meal.
Overall I found Mike's to be certainly a step above your typical fast food fried chicken places. At $14 for the meal with no drink I felt it was a little on the pricey side, but not overly so, especially considering the food is of good quality.
