The Best Viet-Cajun Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"This local chain, which is owned by a family of immigrants (the eponymous Mike is from Vietnam), has been running for over 20 years. The low-key locations, including this one on Highway 6, offers chargrilled oysters, fried alligator tail, crawfish tail rice, and boiled dungeon crab. Plus fried rice, hush puppies, and all manner of fried fish." - Brittany Britto Garley

The fried catfish at Mike's Seafood is so delicious! Perfectly seasoned and crispy, it pairs so well with the flavorful rice. But the real game-changer? The tater and Mike sauce. You have to try it. It ties everything together and takes the meal to another level. Comfort food done right!

Mike's Seafood - Highway 6 Crawfish season never disappoints here! They always deliver on fresh, flavorful seafood, keeping me coming back time and time again. Definitely a go-to spot for a seafood fix!

Google
The food was great. The chargrilled oysters were the highlight of the show. On a 1-10 rating I give this place a 9 only because the catfish could have used a little more seasoning but was still good. It’s not fancy but the atmospheres was good. The frozen drink were also good and strong. I highly recommend and I will be visiting again.

Google
The food was amazing! Service was a little too slow, and you have to go get your food when your name is called out. It's very busy but worth it.

Google
If you’re a seafood fan, this place is an absolute must-visit. Every dish we tried was exceptional, starting with the fried alligator and boudin balls. They were so delicious that we were too busy enjoying them to even snap a picture! The alligator was perfectly crispy, while the boudin balls had the perfect balance of spice and flavor. For the main course, the crawfish was bursting with flavor (I got the spicy) and the fried catfish was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside—honestly, it might just be the best I’ve ever had. The oysters were also outstanding, oh-so-delicious. This place is a seafood lover’s dream, and everything was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend!

Google
First time trying Mikes after hearing so many people rave about it on Facebook. The shrimp fried rice is delicious and the garlic seafood platter has ok flavor and more on the salty side for me.

Google
Took my dad to his favorite spot, Mike’s Seafood, to celebrate his 78th birthday. As always, everything was perfect—the food was hot, crispy, and absolutely delicious. Mike, the owner, was incredibly kind and even gave my dad some adorable shot glasses as a gift.

Yelp
Loved my catfish n fries. I normally go with a 3 piece catfish with fried rice, but for some reason l I was given French fries instead. They were pretty good I've had them before. Fish was crunchy, nicely coated and seasoned. Their tartar is the best in the state. Hands down!!! I also ordered BBQ wings, which were delicious. I was given 8 wings, which I thought was the order, but afterwards Saw in their menu that wings are 10 pieces. I guess I'll let management know next time in person. Service is counter and there is plenty of seating inside. Great jams that are always playing. I also noticed that Pepsi products are now in their fountain. I remember they used to be Coke products.

Yelp
Finally got to try their crawfish after finding out about Mike's last year. Honestly it wasn't that good. Don't get me wrong,Spicy is good but when it's just spicy but no flavor that not even the side of butter helps that's not good. I think we paid 7.99-8.99 per lb. We also got the house fried rice and that was bland. We also got their Micheladas also not that great and they're served in plastic mugs not chilled or no ice.

Yelp
This is my go to spot for fried seafood. The price is right, flavor is on point and the portions are above average. I see alot of people eating crawfish here but I haven't tried any of their boiled seafood options yet. My favorite is their fried shrimp. Their tartar sauce is different, good but different. There is a hint of something like cinnamon or maybe even some type of Indian spice in it. I can't put my finger on it but there is definitely a unique ingredient that I haven't tasted in other tartar sauces. I guess I'll have to keep eating their fried shrimp until I get to the bottom of it... For research purposes only. I also recommend their fried rice over their french fries as a side.

Yelp
Crawfish are good and hot. Not too spicy if that's what you want. I usually get medium garlic butter. Being from New Orleans; It is either spicy or not too spicy. lol! Restaurant also offer typical fried plates. I haven't tried it as of now. But the shrimp fried rice is good and not salty! But the hidden gem I would say are the chargrilled oysters! You order your food and find your own seat so service is what you make of it. Ambiance is typical picnic seating with good music and air conditioning! Boiled seafood is not cheap at all. 5 lbs of crawfish, 2 corn and 2 sausages! 1 dozen of chargrilled oysters will set you back $85.

Yelp
They played the haliburton injury in the finals months after it happened and i still have severe trauma from that event

Yelp
Food is good and economical, but service is lack-luster. Phoned in an order only to be told that I had dialed the wrong number. Not possible, but if they don't appreciate my business, I will find another local business to patronize. Disappointed. Need to train service personnel before they begin losing business.

Yelp
I've been seeing so many talks about this place on TikTok, so I finally made my way out there to try them out. I went during lunchtime, there was quite a few people in there already. It wasn't crowded but more than what I was expecting. I ordered my food to go since they did not have public Wi-Fi. This isn't a deal breaker but it would have been nice to have my work computer on while I devour crawfish. lol I ordered 4 pounds of crawfish . They had a special buy 3 pounds of crawfish get two potatoes one corn. I asked for my crawfish to have no garlic, just plain Cajun crawfish. However, when I receive my order, they still had garlic in the crawfish. I did order a side of the garlic butter. I wasn't expecting the garlic butter to look how it did, but it wasn't terrible. Overall, the food was great and I would order from them again and hopefully get my true order . I would opt out of the garlic butter and probably get the regular butter. The corn and potatoes were great. I definitely will put them on my list of crawfish places to go !

Yelp
The food was great. I got the chargrilled oysters and seafood soup. And the group also got some fried fish and crawfish tails which I think they enjoyed. The micheladas were good too. It was in the evening when we went and there were tv screens and lighted signs but it felt pretty dim inside. Maybe that is how the atmosphere was suppose to be like. My boyfriend kept getting drops of water on him I think from the AC vent. He had to move a couple times but it was okay afterwards.

Yelp
Still phenomenal!! And Mike still has two catfish and fried rice and a piece of bread for $8.95! Great service, reasonable prices during these hard times and excellent food as always.

Yelp
New year. Same seafood craving same spot same satisfying experience. If your styrofoam box is. Not bending as you carry it your local seafood fry is ripping you off. I always get the 3 fish 3 shrimp 3 oyster combo with fries or rice and I never leave disappointed. Their tartar sauce and cocktail sauce idk if it's homemade but it's always in sauce cups and no other retail tartar sauce has come close to it. My go to seafood fry spot!

Yelp

Yelp
Countless dollars... countless pounds... wasted... relentlessly searching for the best of the best this crawfish season. Only to finally discover Mike's Seafood at the very TAIL end. I'm chuckling and crying at the same time. Typical Viet-Cajun style will always hold a place in my heart, but sometimes you need more than messy sauce on the outside of unseasoned crawfish. The flavor of Mike's crawfish is seasoned through and through into the meat. Instead of a million sauce options, you select your spice level, with/without garlic butter - proving that sometimes less is more. At $6.99/lb, their prices are the nearly half of their competitors' but with twice the flavor. They're also not nickel-and-diming on the butter/limes/Cajun seasoning. The staff is very nice. The food comes out piping hot and fast. After enjoying both takeout and dining in, I would opt to eat Mike's incredible crawfish at the house since the restaurant is a bit warmer than I like. Aside from the food being stupid good, I love supporting Mike's Seafood because I respect the owner. Mike is a local legend - putting in hard work since 2003, he started in a food truck and now has 3 brick-and-mortar locations. 2024 was the saddest crawfish season I've seen in a long time. Low supplies and high prices hurt hungry pockets and even shuttered some businesses... but Mike's thrived (and for good reason)! It's gonna be a long year between now and the 2025 crawfish season, but until then, I'll hold a spot in my stomach for Mike's Seafood.

Yelp
This is my number one crawfish place during crawfish season! You can get other stuff on the menu like shrimp, fish, fried rice, etc but during crawfish season I recommend the crawfish! Flavorful, giant size, affordable, juicy, and they give you all the fixings you need! Service is quick and efficient! They likely have most of the sports on any of the tvs in the building and the music is a local station which is also cool. On the weekend it's definitely packed but they have an awesome to go service too!

Yelp
Great food, got that spicy kick that I love. We work across the street from them at Smoke station and we eat here often, and we get customers from Mike seafood all the time and everyone has great feedback. 10/10 would recommend! Mike seafood www.smokestationhtx.com

Yelp
Crawfish absolutely had no flavor, all you can taste is the garlic. They (manager, I guess) don't care which is why there is a "no refund" rule. I literally ate 8 of them (trying to give it a chance) NOPE! 3 pounds & $26.97 wasted.

Sheryl T.

Yelp
They have trout!! Yummy! Been going there way over a decade and I keep seeming to forget how much food they give u! One order of shrimp fried rice is enough for 3 people!! Casual, u can bring the entire family!!

Shibi F.

Yelp
The place is dark and quiet, but the food was amazing! We got a bucket of crawfish and we couldn't stop eating them. The juice flavoring was delicious! The fried rice with crawfish was even better! Kids tried the alligator tail and said it tasted like chicken! We got a tray of the seafood platter that had mussels, shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes. We walked away feeling full and happy!

Yelp
The best crawfish I have had anywhere. They were huge and delicious. The spicy may be too spicy for some but I thought they were perfect. They are also served with melted butter. The corn and potatoes are an extra charge which is very affordable. You order at the counter and pick them up when they are done. They are cooked fresh so there is a little wait but it is well worth the wait.

Yelp
Ate there first time a few weeks ago. Food was very good. Will be back to try out their crawfish next Visit

Yelp
I've heard many good things about Mikes Seafood so was excited to check them out. When we first arrived it was a little confusing as we waited to be seated however, they operate as order/pay at the counter first and then open seating. They then call your name when the food is ready and you go back up to get it yourself. While we waited, I was searching around for your typical condiment bar, but didn't really see one. There was a station with hot sauce, but that was about it. I love that they have happy hour specials and their liquid marijuana daiquiri is fantastic in flavor and in price. 5/5 Spicy Boiled Crawfish 2/5 well I'll start with it wasn't spicy at all and it really lacked flavor. The corn I ordered with it tasted weird... like it had been soaking in sink water so I wasn't really a fan. Raw oysters 3.5/5 I don't think you can really go wrong with raw oysters except they did not have the hot sauce that I prefer available. I tried the hot sauce they did have and it was weird and sweet. Not a fan at all. Also another point taken away because they took very long to come out. The table by us ordered after us, and got their plate of oysters first. Overall I probably won't visit again anytime soon but would be willing to give them another shot (during happy hour times)!

Yelp
First, I want start off by saying Mike's was always my go to place a good seafood and a good margarita, but I don't know who are the new people in the kitchen or new owners or whatever everything has went downhill. It does not taste the same. I've been going there for 10+ years. Today was my last day.

Nishat J.

Yelp
Crawfish was not very fresh and small in size even they we were told large. Other food looked good but we only went for crawfish and were disappointed

Yelp
Fresh from the sea the fried shrimp Poboy is awesome and Mike don't skimp on the shrimp!!

Yelp
AHHH I love this place. I did underestimate it at first, because of the way it looks. Corner place, crowded, kind of dirty inside, BUT THE FOOD IS SO GOOD. Like it's nothing that I expected at all. My brother got 12 raw oysters (I think it was $12-15 for that) and 12 grilled oysters for $30. My boyfriend got combo fried rice which was $15 for a large. And I got 3 pounds of mild crawfish with garlic for $25. (At $7.99/pound) Raw oysters-7/10 normal oysters Grilled oysters- 9.7/10 best I ever had tbh! Combo fried rice- 8.6/10 very flavorful! Crawfish -9/10 best affordable tasty crawfish in town! I used to go to crawfish cafe, but after they changed their prices to $18/pound...mikes seafood is my new crawfish/seafood spot! Very affordable, very tasty, very convenient, very much perfect! Don't judge a book by it's cover type of moment, because this place is delicious! Recommend? ABSOLUTELY Note: spice is more spicier than you think.

Yelp
My husband purchased a container of gumbo yesterday. There is absolutely too much salt in the gumbo. The staff is polite. Atmosphere is very welcoming.

Yelp
First time here. Chose this place based off the reviews. I ordered raw oysters. They were very fresh and very good. The restaurant was clean, quiet during the lunch hours. What's intereating is I dined in. I had to pay for my food before it was served. This was extremely odd. I've never dined in a restaurant and paid for the food before, it arrived, or ate it. How do I determined a tip, on service, food etc, if I'm pre paying? (hypothetical question) It's like blind trust.
google avatar

Alexis C.

Yelp
I come frequently since 2016, especially for their crawfish when in season and the fried rice!! Recently I've discovered the seafood platters that come with a little bit of everything boiled. My go to! Also for great prices like $36 They also have grilled fish options that are perfectly cooked each visit
google avatar

Lakisha W.

Yelp
The food was gone before I thought to take a pic but just know you won't be disappointed. I was sold on the reviews but OMG! I had the broiled shrimp with spicy garlic sauce. Service was great and food was fresh. If you're looking for some fresh and I mean fresh seafood I highly recommend.

Yelp
Been going to this place for years. Always loved coming here for crawfish season. Everything was always absolutely good and had to abruptly stop coming here cause I found hair in my Boudin balls

Yelp
Excelente food. Great place to hang out. The owner himself was there to make sure everything was perfect and it was. I really recommend you to try their oysters.

Yelp
Mike's is in an unassuming plaza off of Hwy 6. We came in around 11:40am on a Sunday, surprisingly no line. Ordered 3 lbs of crawfish, combination plate of 3 fish and 6 shrimp, sausage & shrimp fried rice, and fried alligator. Fried fish & shrimp: fish was nicely fried with cornmeal, decent amount of seasoning. The shrimp was good but needed more salt. Sausage & shrimp fried rice: pretty comparable to a fried rice you'd get at a Chinese restaurant. You can see the scallions & egg, and taste the soy sauce in the rice. Crawfish: I think the price was 7.99/lb? Spicy and plenty of garlic, so taste was on point. In our 3 lbs, there were like 4-5 that we had to toss out. A good number of crawfish were tinyyy which feels bad. I think the price point at Mike's is decent and they have a good selection of other stuff. We got lucky that there wasn't a line when we arrived, then as we were eating, the (what seems to be the church) crowd came in. I would say a big reason for the rating is how long it took to get our crawfish, we ordered around 11:45am and didn't get crawfish until 1:01pm (based on my photo timestamp), which is wild because there were only two couples ahead of us that were waiting for food. Seems like they didn't start boiling until after we ordered, or even another they batched up a couple folks' orders after us. Not sure if they're trying to batch/time it to be more economical, but getting crawfish more than an hour later is a terrible experience, especially if different people in your group are getting their food much earlier (20 minutes to get fried rice, 40 minutes to get fried fish & shrimp, 70 minutes to get crawfish). I give Mike's Seafood 3 fruits of the sea, out of 5.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. My favorite things are the fried catfish, boudin balls, fries, and gumbo. My sons love the seafood boils. Mike's never miss!

Atira H.

Yelp
Maannnnn what would've a 4 star review lacking 1 star because we didn't get the full experience dropped to a 2 star review. My boyfriend and I had got the 2 piece fish(got blessed with3) + 6 wings platter , along with the 10 LIME PEPPER wings and a side of rice. The fish tasted flat as if it was old but it was still great I was starving but prefer not to get the fish again (maybe that's why we got an extra piece) but anyway my baby get to bussing his wings downnnn. KILT THEM wingsss , he love him some lemon pepper, these were close too but not better.....get to bussin the rice down and mannnn he asking me what is that?! I'm confusion cuz I'm in my plate tryna get to my fries...... he done got some hair in his shrimp fried rice... it all ended there. Since we came close to closing we had to get things to go and couldn't come back to get this issue fixed

Yelp
This place doesn't disappointment the crawfish is packing with flavor, great crawfish

Yelp
Stopped into Mike's today, I do wish they would put a location on the SW side, even a small one. Tho I have been here many times for the Fish & Shrimp . Once again I ordered the same. Tho always good, I tried the Trout for the first time. Tho good I would have liked it even more if Seasoned with Tony's Spicy Creole Season. I prefer that the Shrimp be kept whole instead of butterflied or given a choice of either or. I don't know if there are any other locations, but SW side would love to have you.

Yelp
Food is good for the cost. Not terribly expensive. Been there twice, always get my food in a timely manner

Yelp
For my 33rd birthday all I want to do is eat eat eat, I had an awesome lunch & wanted to try Mike's for dinner. I have to stay that I thoroughly enjoyed my food & the service was pretty good. The owner Mike was accommodating & hands on with getting the food out. I decided to order some crawfish with 1 corn, 1 sausage & 1 potato. I also got their 10 piece chicken wings. So I thought that flavors on the crawfish tasted amazing to where I ordered two more pounds. The house flavor was garlicky & kind of taste like some sort of Viet cajun inspired. The wings were awesome as it came out fresh & hot. It was crispy, juicy & flavorful. I was disappointed that I didn't get my potato that I ordered but they did give me an egg so I wasn't tripping. They also gave me 2 extra wings so that's winning. There were several amounts of dead crawfish & some of them were mushy but I can't expect perfection when the place is extremely packed. Overall good food & service, thanks Mike for being a great host.

Yelp
So the manger for today said we couldn't do the 5 for $25 deal bc it's only on Mon-thurs and then also didn't want to fulfill the 5 for $30 bc he said, verbatim, that on the board it says Monday thru Thursday...... please tell me where you see "5 for $30 crawfish from Monday thru Thursdays" on the board. Yeah, we don't. The "manager" on duty (Hispanic, with curly hair and glasses) said that it states on the board that it's only Monday thru Thursday (which it doesn't). Oh! He also gave our friend the 5/$25 special & didn't want to give us the 5/$30 special :))) he definitely does not need to be a manager!

Tammy H.

Yelp
We went to Mike seafood matter of fact still here had to reorder tilapia 2 times it was fried so hard couldn't eat it them the over weight helper had an attitude about redoing it I think if you work all day and spend your hard earned money it should be worth eating at the end of the day so I was disappointed cause we always come here well the food is very tasty but service sucks not to mention the fries where also over cooked I believe they need to change the grease regularly so this don't happen again no to mention I've been sitting here 2 hrs waiting on my husbands fish I just ate mine although it was not good

Yelp
It's New Year's Day and my daughter wanted some crab legs and crawfish. I remember seeing a post about Mike's in this Facebook group I'm in so I decided to try. We came and were able to find seating for 6 people. There was a short wait to order the food. Crawfish was $8.99 a pound and they have one flavor which is garlic butter (mild, medium or hot). Below is what I ordered and their rating: A platter that came with mussels, shrimp, crab legs, two boiled eggs, sausage, potatoes and corn. My rating is 10/10. It came with two sauces that I assume were Mike's sauces and reminded me of Lotus Seafood crack sauce. 5lbs of crawfish- my rating 10/10. They were on the smaller size side which was to be expected during this time but I had no complaints. We devoured it! Gumbo- 8/10 I ordered lime pepper wings and bbq wings. I didn't like that I could order six wings as they only had one set amount of wings you could order which was 10 I believe. So I ordered twenty wings. They were for my kids and judging by their empty plates and empty chicken bones, I'd say it was 10/10. Hurricane daiquiri- 7/10 And then we got six fountain drinks. My total was $150 which wasn't bad, to me, at all. I will definitely return here during crawfish season. My family enjoyed our first meal of the new year as a family. Parking is plenty as the restaurant is at the end of a shopping center.

Yelp
Nice restaurant when you are cravings for seafoods. Calamari is not crunchy though still good

Donita B.

Yelp
So, let's get into it. I have been going to Mike's for years. Over the years, I have noticed that they have made some changes to their snow crab orders, which is what I always order. I used to love the juices from ordering the crabs, potatoes, and corn. I sometimes just went in for the corn and potatoes with spicy garlic seasoning. I recently visited the location in Rosharon, since it is closer to me. I ordered the snow crabs, potatoes, corn, and eggs in spicy garlic. They no longer give you any juice in the bag. If you request some, now they want to charge you for it. You mean, you want me to buy some seasoned water? Secondly, the crabs were overcooked. I spent $47 on a dry, overcooked meal. I am so disappointed. I had no juice to dip my potatoes nor my corn in. It was just horrible and I ended up throwing my meal in the trash. Yeah, until Mike's go back to the way it use to be, I won't be spending my money here.

Yelp
Decide to try this place after many recommendations. Ordered the gumbo to go, had great flavor. Staff was friendly and place was clean. Will have to go back.

Yelp
First time we hit Mike's was to review the crawfish because it was in Yelp's top 10 list. The crawfish was overcooked and heavy on the garlic but low on Cajun flavors. We loved the busy ambiance though, with the loudness of the crowd, good music and a small patio for outdoor eating. We went back because we liked the ambience, and every time since the crawfish have been on point! The wife even got snow crabs once and loved it. We're about to head back for the daughter's birthday and I realized I hadn't reviewed it. Let's go Mike's!!!

Yelp
Mike's Seafood never fails! Been coming here for at least 10 years now! Place is always clean and packed especially during the weekends. Price for live crawfish currently is 7.99 pp.
