Even with a 4.6 at the time of this review, this place is still a little underrated. The food is authentic and represents the best of the fusion-based cuisine that Peru is world famous for. At this point, I have tasted enough of the menu to vouch for this place being a true "blindfold" spot: close your eyes and pointing at the menu is enough to guarantee you'll have an enjoyable meal, the attention to detailed execution pretty much guarantees that. This is reflected in the exquisite drink menu as well. Service also always seems to be connected and genuinely considerate.

Mikhuna is hands down my favorite restaurant in the entire Valley. I recommend it to everyone I know, and it’s become a go-to spot for many of my family and friends as well. We’ve celebrated so many special moments here, which makes this place especially meaningful to me. The staff are always friendly, attentive, and welcoming—they really help create a great experience every time. We’ve been coming here for the past two years and try to visit at least once a month. During Valley Symphony Orchestra season, it’s our tradition to stop by after each concert. We especially appreciate that Mikhuna is one of the few top-tier restaurants open after 9 PM. Their Coco Mule is my favorite drink—so refreshing, especially in this Texas heat! The calamari is fantastic, paired with a super tasty green salsa. I also love their shrimp tacos and lomo saltado. Honestly, I haven’t tried a single thing here that I didn’t enjoy. Mikhuna is a true gem and has become our special spot to relax and indulge in incredible food and drinks.

Google
I visited this restaurant with fairly high expectations, and overall, the experience was good. The food tasted fresh and well-prepared, and the service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is pleasant and inviting. That said, given the price point, I was hoping for a bit more complexity or creativity in the presentation and overall concept of the dishes. While everything tasted fine, the culinary approach felt a bit too simple and didn’t quite match the elevated pricing. It’s not about being overly fancy, but rather about aligning the value with the experience.

Google
We had a great dinning experience at Mikhuna. We are in town for business travel and a friend recommend this place. We order the seafood ceviche, yuca fritas, tostones rellenos, pulpo tacos and finished it off with the ube ice cream and churos. I highly recommend the pisco sour. Misael did an excellent job of taking care of us.

Google
What an experience! We went on Saturday afternoon, partially crowded but the service was fair. The tomatoes plantain were good. The ceviche is Peruvian with a twist I couldnt tell what's it different, but it is good different. The melon cake was a very nice surprise.

Something about the hospitality down south. Everyone is beyond friendly. If I could give more than 5 stars for their service I would! We went on an evening that it decided to storm. Only had 2 umbrellas so my sister decided that she would wait it out until the storm passed. It didn’t look like it was going to stop any time soon. Ya’ll a worker went out into the pouring rain and got her with an umbrella! Poor guy was drenched! I have never witnessed this kind of kindness. As for their food! Amazing!!!! We tried their Pulpo al Olivo (Very tender and flavorful. The only thing I would have omitted were the olives) Wistupiku Empanadas (Piping hot and delicious. The sauce that it came with was excellent) Chicharron de Calamar (Batter was crispy, calamari was tender and the flavor was on point) Sopa Criolla (Tasted like comfort. It was so good) Loma Saltado with Ribeye (This was my least favorite. Meat was tender but it was a bit on the salty side) Ropa Vieja Tacos (Very tasty and tender. My only complaint would be the portion size of the meat) Pescado a lo Macho (My absolute favorite dish. It was so delicious). Besides the downpour, we had such an amazing experience. We need this place in the DFW area. Would definitely return if I am ever back down in Mcallen.

My husband and I came for a date night on a Friday and it was truly an amazing experience. Marco provided us with great food and drink recommendations that did not disappoint! The dessert was even better to end the night with. Get the churros! We plan to return very soon.

Google
Exceptional. Christian was our server, and he was very attentive and very welcoming. The cocktails were delightful. Well made and balanced, beautiful presentation. The dishes were well seasoned. We order the shrimp stuffed avocado, which was presented very nicely, and the seasoning was perfect. We also had the Pulpo anticuchero and the Ribeye. Both cooked perfectly, the chimichurri sauce was very flavorful and complemented the meats perfectly. It was a delightful dinner!

Yelp
Parking was a bit difficult especially with the downpour rain this evening. But a lovely gentlemen came to the car with an umbrella! I totally forgot to tip him because we were so occupied with the rain! I feel so bad now! We were soaked from head to toe but managed to still enjoy our dinner and celebrated my mother's birthday! Octopus salad 8/10 Fried calamari 10/10 Empanadas 10/10 Soup 10/10 so good can't remember the name but will attach receipts Calamari, fish, shrimp dish 10/10 get this!!! Stir fried beef 7/10 Price for everything 10/10 if this was a restaurant in my home town this would've easily been over $250! I love this place! But sadly I'm just visiting! Until next time! Thank you again umbrella guy!!!

Yelp
My sister and I came here for dinner. We ordered the Ceviche Peruano and chips with avocado en rajas. We also ordered Tacu Tacu A Lo Pobre to share and three of their desserts. Ube Churros, Peruvian Choco bar, Hokkaido Melon Cheesecake. The tacu tacu was really amazing and cooked to my taste, medium. The ceviche had a bit of a kick to it but super tasty and it's great to share. Of the three desserts, I really liked the choco bar and the melon cheesecake. The choco bar would be great to someone who really likes dense and strong flavors. The cheesecake would be great to someone who prefers light and softer flavors. The churros was alright, I would skip this next time. This differently a place to have a fancy night out. It feels like you need to have a dress code but they're relaxed bout it. The room decoration is amazing. The table and chairs were stable and clean. They also have a purse pole. There is free parking out front and on the street.

Yelp
Food was great. It was fresh and made to order. Service was also great. Waiter was attentive and nice. The ambiance was soft and mellow, intimate. Great date night spot.

Yelp
This restaurant is quite a gem in McAllen. Fabulous food and ambiance with some parking at the back that makes starting the night much easier. I had the parihucla a seafood soup with a rich orange yellow broth. One of our party had the fusion ropa vieja. Nothing old about this well spiced and satisfying dish. Another folk had the aji de gallina which was a nice light white sauce and light chicken. This place is frequented by us out of towners. It is well worth it.

Yelp
This place is a must stop if y'all find y'allselves in McAllen! Bro and I wanted to try something different and he heard of this place on yolo tx. I made a reservation for 6:30 just to assure seating and as I was coming in from Harlingen didnt know what to expect. Well since my mini trip had been free from traffic assumed Id make it on time but after leaving San Juan we ran into those ugly orange sightings cones ugh. Fortunately we were only a few mins late and hostess was very kind. Parking is across street unofficially lol. Now the food. Our waiter a tall slim young man Oscar I think was his name explained whole menu for us which I really appreciated. We got the empanadas for appetizer that were perfevtly fried with flavorful chicken filling. I went with arroz chaufa since I love rice and he got pollo a number and it was plump juicy and full of flavor. I would love to go again if I find myself able to visit!

Yelp
So delightful! This was my favorite restaurant of my trip to this region. The dishes were inventive, unique, and very tasty. We asked around to see if anyone in the area had anything to say about this place before we went and locals didn't seem to know much about it. That is surely bound to change as word gets out! The original chef has returned from the east coast! We dropped in here on a Tuesday after work and were immediately impressed with the ambiance and service. The space looks like it could be part art gallery, part hip restaurant in Miami or NYC. We asked for suggestions of what to order on the menu and then ordered several dishes to share. Every bite was followed up by a smile of satisfaction on our faces. You can't go wrong with anything you order here - it was all incredible! Parking is a little tricky as they don't really have a parking lot. Look for a spot directly in front of the restaurant and parallel park.

Yelp
This spot is what you call.. Amazing! Bruh, they had it all from Brazilian beer to octopus and sushi. Fried rice in a portion large enough to feed a family was a highlight. But bruh, the fish with yucca styled "mashed potato" side was the one. Next level flavors for da kids taste buds. Definitely drop by and stay eatin! Great ambiance too fam.

Yelp
Visited Mikhuna last night with some friends. So we ordered drinks. Took a while to get. Dont know if they were under staffed last night. Ordered food and that took about 40-45 minutes. Food: I ordered the Tacu Tacu. . Delicious!!! It's a ribeye (medium) served on a bed of refried beans and rice. They top it with sauted onion, tomatos and platains on the side. Oh and a fried egg! So freakin good. The food made me forget about the wait time. It was worth it. I was so stuffed that i could not finish my steak. My buddy finished it and he was amazed in how juicy, tender and flavorful it was. Overall, i think i will return again. Next visit im going for the Ropa Vieja. Can't wait.

Yelp
I often feel guilty after going out to eat, because it seems that for most types of cuisine, it must be unhealthy to taste good. This was my first time eating at Mikhuna and I was thrilled with the experience. The place itself is lovely - warm flattering lighting (great for a date) and there is a stunning mural and several framed tapestries in bright colors; I was told they are from a Peruvian artist. I soon discovered that art is also happening in the kitchen. From the moment we arrived, the service was top notch - knowledgeable, attentive, and the server always available when we needed something. We started with Ceviche Carretillero, which was simply exquisite - boldly seasoned, without overpowering the mahi mahi. When a friend ordered the Ceviche Nikkei, I thought it would be more of the same, but I tried it to be polite and was delighted with how different it was - rich and creamy, again without being heavy. I ordered the Arroz Con Mariscos (like paella) for my main course, but the real appeal here was how moist the rice was - not just wet but loaded with the kind of intensity that you can only get by slow cooking. For dessert, I shared the Strawberry Pionono, the perfect ending to a great evening. Who knew that healthy can taste and feel so good? The next time I plan a trip to McAllen, I'll be reserving a table in advance!

Yelp
Everything here is so good. I didn't try everything though so that's a lie. But lies aside, the ones I did eat were amazing. I tried the Black Ink Paella, which has cuttle fish ink in it. Very fishy. But amazing. For non-alcohol people blueberry lemonade was fantastic. The cheesecake was good but really heavy. Mikhuna Ceviche was excellent.

Yelp
One of the best Peruvian Dishes, "Aji de Gallina" used to be on their menu but was removed after the restaurant rebranded to more of Japanese Peruvian vibe. I emailed ahead and the manager told me they would make the dish for me. I am very excited that I get to eat this classic dish once again. The restaurant has other amazing dishes too like the classic Chaufa or Lomo Saltado, but nothing beats their Aji de Gallina. If you come make sure to email and call in advance and request the Aji de Gallina. I highly recommend their Yuca Frita (Yuca fries) and Tostones Rellenos! The Wistupiku is an appetizer which closely resembles the Aji de Gallina entree. The food and atmosphere is very energizing but not crazy loud. For Desert I got the the Cheesecake. 10/10

Yelp
The service at Mikuna was good. The restaurant is clean. The food was ok, nothing exceptional or that will satisfy an actual hunger. The food is for those wanting to experiment new cuisine that will complement an alcoholic beverage to hang with friend or celebrate a special occasion. The ceviche is hands down the best item on their menu but the rest is meh. DO NOT order the Octopus it's not prepared or cooked correctly, they did not wash and remove the membrane. When the membrane is not removed the food texture is slimy and chewy.

Ren E.

Yelp
We love Peruvian food. There are basically no other options in McAllen, so this restaurant will serve to calm the itch. Flavors are mostly on point. The mix with Japanese food is certainly unnecessary, as Peruvian food has a lot to offer. on its own. I don't reject innovation except when done to cover up for shortcomings of true flavors which is the case for some dishes. They should keep trying to nail down the expected flavors of traditional dishes instead of going "fusion" with valley food. Keep the good work Mikuna, focus on your Peruvian side, which makes you unique and go conservative, you will thank us later.

Frank P.

Yelp
First, I want to thank the restaurant for reaching out to me. I am very glad they did as I went back and had the most amazing meal. I had the smoothest Pisco Sour I have ever had. Although they many tropical flavors, since this was my first time at the real, I opted for the traditional one. I started with the Ceviche Peruano. This is the first time I have had Ceviche with rocoto sauce and it is incredible the how it contributes to the dish's flavor. The contrast in texture they achieve by incorporating cancha and sweet potatoes is masterful. The reason I was dying to try this restaurant was because of their paella negra and it did not disappoint. The amount of seafood they incorporate is extremely generous and the flavor is amazing. I have had various pasta dishes with squid ink but first time in paella. The octopus was grilled to perfection. For dessert I decided to have the almendras and Lucuma tarte. The shell made of almonds and chocolate was delicious. The satsuma mandarin custard ties the flavors well. Service was amazing and meeting and being able to compliment the chef on the amazing meal was awesome.

Yelp
Been twice in a short span of time. Each time it was delicious with great staff. The desserts are amazing! Tried a few different dishes and have no complaints for any of them.
google avatar

Sandra R.

Yelp
If you want chewy steak, this is the place to come. I've had the octopus and it was wonderful. But, I get it they don't specialize in steak. Then don't offer it. I don't know if I'm coming back. :(
google avatar

Luis A.

Yelp
Phenomenal dishes and service. To start, it was the Wistupiku empanadas, Pisco Sour, and a beer. Our main entreé was our usual, Lomo Saltado - Ribeye, and dinner didn't disappoint. The delicious dinner, accompanied by excellent service and ambiance, is the reason why this is our go to place for a nice dinner or gathering with close friends. Kudos to Blas for the prompt and friendly service!

Raquel A.

Yelp
Awesome service! I went during happy hour and had some great wine, edamame and ceviche. Yummm! For dinner I had fish and rice. Everything was delicious and I hope to be back.

Yelp
Great date night spot! I'm recently move down to the Valley from Houston, and this spot takes me back to midtown/heights fine dine event. The cocktails were great! Jaime our server was awesome, and recommended the best ceviche we ever had. Shrimp, fish, and octopus were fresh and perfect of sour for ceviche. My husband got the steak plate and it were delicious. I got their new Toro sushi nigiri and it was good as well. Though, to me I think the rice was a bit too wet/sticky. Overall the flavor was great! Oh and that strawberry dessert, a must try! We were so full but I wanted to try the cake base on the picture was showing on the table. Thinking that we probably have room to take a bite. I ended up ate the whole thing Definitely recommended and will come back with more friends next visit.
google avatar

Vincent M.

Yelp
10/10- the best restaurant in the valley. This establishment is world class. You could go to any big city and not find a finer fusion concept. If I could eat here every Saturday I would. Every day you waste not trying out the tacu tacu, the mango sangria, the sushi, and the platanos maduros you're life is poorer for it! Go!
google avatar

Analisa C.

Yelp
Second time at Mikhuna and it didn't disappoint. The food was amazing from ceviche peruano to my tallarin Saltado and dessert. Drinks are always on point. Misael who took care of us was absolutely amazing with his recommendations and service. Will be back again.

Yelp
Cool and clean place with an upbeat Latin music ( typical for Colombia).. Went in for the Peruvian Ceviche and really enjoyed their Pisco. Pricing was good and the atmosphere very pleasant. Looking forward to going back and try the rest of their menu. FYI went in a Monday when most places are not at their best. This place was cool.

Yelp
Oh my new favorite place in McAllen. Walked in on a busy night and we were WOWed from the time we were seated. Followed all the recommendations from our waiter from drinks to dessert. We can't wait to return with family and friends.
google avatar

Yelp
It is a great restaurant we liked the octopus and the salmon ceviche our food came out quick I liked how they brought it out as soon as it was ready and didn't bring everything to the table at the same time like some restaurants do We definitely will return

Mindy F.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in McAllen. The food tastes amazing and the service is really good.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! First of all the drinks are so good! I recommend the Rocotito! It's so delicious! Our waiter was Christian and he was so attentive and treated us amazing! For appetizers we tried the empanadas, and the ceviche peruano. Both were so good! For dinner I had the Lomo Saltado and my husband had the Tacu Tacu. Both dishes were very delicious! Service and management were very attentive and mkept checking up on us. Definitely recommend it! You guys must try it!!!

Yelp
It should be a sin to eat this good. Second time here. Everything I ordered was completely different than the last time. My favorite dish was the ceviche! Wow that elevated my taste buds to a whole other level I did not know existed. Each plate costs between 8-13 dollars. These imported beers were 5$. You don't have to break the bank to eat like a king. The staff is incredibly friendly. This has become my new favorite place to eat in the valley. Do yourself the favor and come enjoy this restaurant soon.
google avatar

Lizzy C.

Yelp
LOVED this cozy place! My friend and I were cruising down main one day after eating at another place and stumbled upon it. We thought it would be a hibachi vibe; however; after taking a mental note to return and once we did, it was not hibachi at all. There is a welcoming atmosphere, with the waiters quick to make the customers happy. My friend and I wrapped up our Christmas shopping outing with a glass of wine, excellent food, and SUPERB waiting staff. I ordered the "Anticucho de Pulpo" and I was full but wanting more, it was that good. We also ordered the flan, and the only thing I wish I would've had to accompany it would be a cup of coffee. Recommend this establishment to anyone seeking to bring something new to their pallet

Yelp
Love Mikhuna, good food, great ambiance, good service. Been here twice this week with friends and family. Ceviche, Tostones rellenos de camarones, fried Yuca are great appetizers. The Ribeye Lomo and Ropa Vieja are our fav dishes. This is now our fav Friday night place to go.
google avatar

Nathan H.

Yelp
Amazing service; immediately assisted with recommendations and was extremely polite. I enjoyed the food a lot for sushi. I've never been a bit sushi guy, but this place made it enjoyable. The atmosphere here was stellar, with amazing music and fun vibes. I would recommend it for a date!
google avatar

Lisa Kay S.

Yelp
Great food and informative and friendly staff. My sister and I went for lunch. I got ceviche Peruano. Yum!
google avatar

Matthew T.

Yelp
This place is fine. That is really what it is. It's fine. Not bad , not memorable. So it makes you wonder if it's worth the prices. "Sushi" is not sushi. If you actually know sushi, you'll know what I mean. Peruvian dishes are all in line with traditional Peruvian food, just not amazing. I respect their idea, the concept and the atmosphere of the place.
google avatar

Christian E.

Yelp
I've gone here multiple times already and I'm finally getting around to making a review for this amazing restaurant! It's always nice to see new fusion restaurants here in the valley and Mikhuna is a new favorite of mine. I recommend going to their happy hour which is Monday-Friday from 5-7pm since you definitely get the most bang for your buck. Appetizers are insanely cheap and great for sharing, my favorites are the mini tuna tacus and their gyoza. Some of their sushi rolls are also a few dollars cheaper and the one you ABSOLUTELY have to get is the kraki maki roll, which is a fried roll with shrimp, avocado, and spicy salmon on top. The service here is always great and very attentive! Highly recommend this restaurant :)
google avatar

Anyssa A.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! When we went it happened to be all day happy hour. The servings were very generous. We got some sushi, empanadas, yucca, and edamame - each item was $5...such a steal. The sangria, both red and white, was really refreshing. The star of the meal though was the black ink paella, which was an off the menu feature. It was phenomenal! The octopus was cooked just right, not too chewy, and had a touch of teriyaki flavoring. It also had clams, mussels, shrimp, and calamari. For dessert we had the platanos, which was ok. Honestly, I may have just been way too full to enjoy it. The restaurant was empty, only one other table thanks to stupid covid. It did seem like there were quite a few to go orders though. Hopefully they will get plenty of business. This is a killer restaurant that I hope will garner lots of attention, they deserve it!
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
This is a must eat place in the RGV! The mix of Japanese and Peruvian food is amazing. From something as simple as the lime soy to the pescado a lo macho. The service is excellent! I'd recommend this place to anyone in the RGV.
google avatar

Efrain R.

Yelp
Amazing food, every single time! No other place that I know of in the area has food similar to this. It is a must try, but beware, once you try it you will be hooked.
google avatar

Megan Marie M.

Yelp
It was my first time dining at this restaurant and it was a nice experience. I highly commend my server, Zoe. I asked for recommendations and the dishes she mentioned were really good. I got the Mikhuna Ceviche to start with; it was a refreshing dish. The tacu tacu steak was very delectable and I paired that with a cabernet sauvignon. I finished the meal off with the matcha brownie, each bite was heavenly. Also, the apple-mango sake rita is a must try! Zoe was really attentive, friendly and accommodating. The rest of the staff are too. The ambiance and decor is really good as well. Will definitely come back.

Sherida S.

Yelp
Mikhuna was great! the food, ambiance and service was excellent . Misael our waiter was exceptional and made our order experience wonderful!

Yelp
I recently went on a date to this restaurant. I got there about 15 mins before she did to get us a table. I was seated right away and the staff checked on me multiple times while I waited for her. She arrived and we ordered drinks. The Mescalito was fantastic. I forget what her drink was called but it had fresh fruit in it and looked amazing. The food was served quickly and it was to die for. Sushi rolls were on point and then sashimi was incredibly fresh. The staff was attentive and took care of our bill quickly. I'd give it six stars if I could.

Kathleen E.

Yelp
Service was less than stellar ( the sauce for the plantains was left of the platter and we had to ask twice for it), but that said, the server's recommendation of mahi-mahi ceviche was dead on - it was WOW delicious - the flavors literally danced in my mouth! My husband's dinner was good, but it is the ceviche we BOTH will be going back for!
google avatar

Saida P.

Yelp
Wonderful experience with great food. Waiter was very kind and knowledgable on food from the menu. The tacos were delicious with the salsa, totally recommend buying. The sashimi slice on the nigiri was so fresh and soft. The crunch on the fried sushi was perfect, it wasn't soggy or too oily. The Akami dish was too plain and a let down, it wasn't as good as I was expecting. The only thing that actually elevated the dish with flavor was the sauce in the plate. Overall, wonderful place, good atmosphere to enjoy with friends or on a date.

Danny S.

Yelp
This restaurant has great vibes, good service and truly delicious food! Options for everyone. Straightforward, and honest.

Yelp
Amazing food. The paella was literally the best I've ever had. This is a must stop in McAllen.

Yelp
Great food! Awesome ceviche, ropa vieja, and desserts. We had fried plantains and maracuya mousse. Really good!

Katheryn B.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing, it reminded me of home (Peru). This was our third time here and we are always happy to come back. I would highly recommend the ceviche

Carlos H.

Yelp
Not real Peruvian taste, a little expensive for food quality. However, good service and confortable ambiance

Mally A.

Yelp
Went to celebrate a friend's Birthday and all was well. The restaurant sits in an older building and therefore there is split dining rooms, and yet there is patio sitting as well. We were a party of 6, 3 in chairs and 3 on a booth, it was a bit uncomfortable though as it was close to other patrons on both sides. Our waitstaff was on top of everything even though it was a busy evening, and his recommendations were welcomed. The food was very good, but portions are not really shareable due to their size. Some items are priced high, but others are quite affordable and all was delicious. I'm taking a star away because of the cramped quarters and the restaurant is not very handicapped accessible, not even the restrooms, and for the small portions served. Other than that, this place is worth visiting, even once!
