Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House Houston - Review - Chinatown - Houston - The Infatuation

"Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House is the perfect spot for a hot pot. This Chinatown restaurant provides unlimited wagyu cuts like chuck ribeye and wagyu brisket for 90 uninterrupted minutes. Four AYCE levels—the cheapest starts at $45— give you increased access to different cuts of meat and special perks. Our favorite one is the seafood platter covered in enough crustaceans to qualify as a buffet. Selecting an upper tier gives you access to a “specialty dish” like rich wagyu nigiri that arrives with a crisp sear. No matter which level you choose, you can dunk the marbled shoulder cuts of meat into a subtly sweet sukiyaki broth and let it cook with veggies like napa cabbage from the unlimited salad bar. And if future trips to Mikiya Shabu are on your calendar, you can get a $28 annual membership for cheaper buffet prices. This spot is ideal for wagyu enthusiasts, so come here with the most serious beef eaters you know. Food Rundown Seafood Platter The seafood platter could constitute its own meal. The crab legs, scallops, and jumbo shrimp absorb the flavor of the hot pot broth in minutes. photo credit: Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House Wagyu Tartare The finely chopped wagyu cubes are on par with the rest of the meat. But there’s an excess of raw egg, which makes the entire dish too mushy to enjoy. Opt for the wagyu nigiri as your specialty dish. photo credit: Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House Wagyu Nigiri Two pieces of buttery wagyu rest on slightly warmed rice. The result is a tender piece of nigiri with rich flavors, foreshadowing the high-quality wagyu to come. photo credit: Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House Premium Australian Wagyu Brisket While brisket is on the basic buffet tier, the premium cut is worth a few extra bucks. The slender strips soak up the broth’s flavors as if it were second nature, making the meat taste rich without being too fatty. American Chuck Ribeye The dense, beefy flavor of the chuck ribeye is balanced by enough marbling to earn a Southern Living cover story. Grab as many plates of this cut as you can handle." - Gianni Greene

Google
This place honestly delivered one of the best hotpot meals I’ve had in a while. I went with the Silver set ($55), and the amount and quality of food really stood out, fresh seafood, high quality meat, and unlimited Australian beef if you’re hungry enough (plus one plate of your choice of A5). The veggies were fresh, the side dishes were solid, and the sashimi was clean and well plated. What made the whole experience even better was our server, Audrey. She was super efficient, explained the menu clearly, and kept everything running smoothly without being over the top. Overall, a great spot to bring friends or family if you want something that feels a little more special.

Google
The first few times, we chose the Silver option. Everything was great — the meat and seafood were fresh and tasty. We actually prefer this place over Haidilao. On our most recent visit, we went with the Diamond option, and the unlimited special dishes and sushi were excellent and well worth the price. However, the soup was a bit too salty this time, which took away the flavor of the meat and seafood. Service from Server Christian was also disappointing. It’s important for servers to check on guests regularly — we found ourselves having to look around for assistance most of the time. The best service we’ve had so far was from Daniel. We’ll probably request him specifically whenever we return

Mikiya is a Wagyu Shabu-Shabu buffet chain founded by Chubby Group, offering a wide variety of broths and ingredients for an exceptional hot pot experience. They have four buffet tiers — the higher the tier, the more premium the selection. The top tier includes unlimited A5 Wagyu, stunning sashimi appetizers, and some of the sweetest, crunchiest sweet shrimp and Norwegian lobster I’ve ever had. The only limited item is the lobster tail; everything else is all-you-can-eat. Their broths are rich and flavorful — the spicy mala broth is authentically fiery, while the kombu broth is mild and perfect for kids. The service is another highlight. Every staff member is full of energy and warmth, which is a signature of this restaurant and something customers rave about. Ingredients are fresh and of premium quality — only the freshest, highest-grade seafood can be served as sashimi here. Although it’s a hot pot buffet, their other dishes are surprisingly diverse and impressive — each one beautifully presented, making it a true visual feast. This is a fantastic spot for dates, gatherings, and hosting friends from out of town — it’s sure to leave a wonderful impression and lasting memories. Special thanks to our server Iris today. She was attentive, served us in fluent Chinese, introduced the dishes professionally, and was warm and enthusiastic. She answered all our questions and fulfilled our requests promptly, making us feel truly respected. We’re very grateful to her!

Google
We had Robert as our server and he was fast, attentive, and super motivated. He really made the dining experience smooth and enjoyable. The quality of the Wagyu makes the price decent. The only downside was the snow crab legs. They were really small, I expected better quality. But overall, service from Robert was top-notch!!!!

We’re visiting from VA & saw this place during our restaurant research, knew it was something we didn’t have here so it was a must to eat here! The atmosphere and vibes were great. Danton was our server, he took such good care of us from start to finish. He was super helpful, even spoke Vietnamese to my parents which left a memorable experience for them! The food was AMAZING! Our family of 6 went with the Diamond set & all agree it was completely worth it, especially with the sukiyaki broth… soo GOOD! We wish Mikiya was closer, definitely would become frequent customers!

I came in around noon with my grandma and got the gold set, everything was incredible. The A5 wagyu cuts were rich and buttery, and the lobster tail was a nice touch. Super fresh, high-quality ingredients all around. Audrey was our server and made the experience even better. She was friendly, attentive, and really knew the menu. Definitely coming back!

Wagyu is always great. I recommend the rib eye! Nice atmosphere. Took a moment for someone to greet you at the front. Awesome milk teas between House and Green tea. Update: went back the following day and was greeted at the front right away. Great service by server Kendrick/Kenji!

Google
This is by far the best premium shabu hotpot experience I have had. We went with the silver combo 55$ and we were shocked at how much food that comes with it. My other friends went with the diamond combo 95$ so I am not sure how they would eat all the good stuff. The seafood were fresh , the meat is tender and flavorful. No limits on refill on Australian beef as long as you can eat. Veggies are fresh . Side dishes and fries dishes were well done. Sashimi is fresh and beautifully plated. The a5 brisket is beautifully marbled. I would say forget Hai Di Lao and go here instead. Great place to take friends and family for a treat that they will impress. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This time, the set meal ordered at this restaurant has been upgraded a lot compared to the last time. It now includes A5 wagyu beef and lobster. The food is exquisite and the taste is authentic. My daughter had a great time eating here on her birthday. Here I recommend kelp and bonito soup base and shabu-shabu soup base.

Yelp
Gosh, came back a week later to celebrate my friend's birthday and it was completely different. I don't know if they were short staffed but the service was atrocious. We were promptly sat by the hostess but then left on our own for more than 10 min. No one came to say who our waiter was and no one stopped by. We finally waved someone down and they took our initial order. We thought everything was fine at that point but it just got worse. After returning from the sauce / veggie bar, we had plates of meat but no broth. We waited another 10-15 min staring at our meat because there was no soup to cook it in. Mind you, with a 90 min timer, we were at least 20 min in. After we finally got the soup, we dug in but still no waiter. Just before the 1 hr mark we again flagged someone down just to get our second round of meat. Can I also add that at this point I still hadn't received my yellowtail appetizer? Additionally, the sauce / veggie bar was almost always missing something - they couldn't keep up with the traffic. I couldn't even get the wagyu curry for a span of 20 min. Towards the end of the meal we finally flagged another person to ask who our waiter was and turns out he was new and never figured out we were his table? Needless to say, this was a disappointing visit and an embarrassing birthday dinner and I think a 3 is gracious for an absolute fail on service when they have a shorter time limit on most places and charge more. Maybe the learning is to not dine in the evening at peak times (6-8). It may be a while before I'm willing to try eating here again.

Yelp
Such a great experience here besides the 45 minute wait on a Friday evening. The silver set includes a seafood platter which was very fresh. I chose the wagyu tartare and would recommend it for the flavor/tenderness of the meat. There is a small sauce bar that also has fruits, veggies, fishballs, and some sides. I will say that the selection of sides like carbs/veggies are very limited compared to other AYCE shabu places in the area. The meats, sides were delicious nonetheless, and the servers/waitstaff were very attentive to make sure your table was not cluttered.

Yelp
Really yummy and glad I could get to try! I think I would come here for special occasions but it is a bit pricey. The meats were really good and fatty which I enjoyed but my boyfriend prefers leaner meats so he didn't enjoy it as much. I enjoyed the bone marrow and the wagyu nigiri but the tartare and sweet shrimp I thought was just alright. The workers were nice and the food came out fast. The inside is cute and nice for a date.

Yelp
First time trying hot pot, and we were blown away! Our server Andrew did an amazing job at explaining everything to us, he was also very attentive and friendly. We had the house and mala broths both were full of flavor and delicious. All the meats were tender and fresh, sides were also all really good. Overall our experience was amazing and we enjoyed everything.

Yelp
My family and I had a great dinner at Mikiya. Walking in, it's a beautiful restaurant and I'm really impressed how modern and clean it looks in the middle of an older shopping center. There was no wait during the weeknight for dinner and we were seated immensely. We opted for the silver wagyu set ($45/person with the membership) and really enjoyed the Australian wagyu. They have certificates of authenticity at the front of the restaurant which is nice. Each person also gets to select a specialty wagyu item, and our favorite was the wagyu nigiri. The sauce bar is fairly small, but we also enjoyed their fruit selection, ice cream, and milk teas. The service was very quick and the staff was very knowledgeable of their offerings. Would return!

Yelp
Came here for my husband birthday. I took advantage and made a Yelp reservation for a Saturday night @ 6:30pm for party of 3. We were greeted and seated right away. Sophia was our waitress and she was AMAZING. She had great customer service and very attentive taking our order and cleaning our table when we were done. We order the Diamond Wagyu Set (Membership $88 or Non membership $98). We had the double broth (house special & tom yum). We order the 3 Waygu A5 Japanese 1. Ribeye, 2. Brisket, & 3. Shoulder cut (this is the order o like it). The quality of meat was absolutely DELICIOUS. Appetizer was very yummy as well. We tried everything except Waygu Tartare. 1. Bone Marrow 2. Norway Lobster (very sweet, the shell was hard to peel "shrimp size" but very good). 3. Sweet shrimp & 4. Waygu Nigiri. We also order the seafood platter. I prefer the meat and appetizer. At the end of our meal we had green tea ice cream & fried mini bun. Definitely will come back. Yes, it's pretty pricey but you pay what you get.

Yelp
First off, the interior is a little dark, but very clean and has that nice modern look! We ordered the Silver AYCE set which comes with a seafood platter and a seafood platter. We ordered the Bone Marrow, Wagyu Nigiri, and their Wagyu Tatare. All of them tasted equally as good, so if possible I'd try them all! Also note to anyone who has any seafood preferences, you can swap out one seafood for more of another option! The meats of course tasted the same, but there are evident differences in texture for each one! I preferred the fattier cuts since they were smaller cuts. For broths, we ordered the Spicy Miso and Mala. The Mala wasn't too overpowering, but still had that nice kick! Same goes for the Miso. One thing I do wish is that they would have a larger variety of choices for their sauce bar. All of our sauces ended up tasting the same. If there was one specific thing I could eat for the entirety of the meal it would be their Wagyu Curry! It's so flavorful. I also want to thank Kendrick for an amazing experience and for giving us some recommendations!

Yelp
Mikiya was a bucket list restaurant that I am very glad I bit the bullet to try it. At first glance, I was intimidated by the tier options and the pricing, but after settling for the second tier, I'm glad I got an upgrade from the basic first tier. The broths were spicy and flavorful, the seafood was very fresh, and the meats were perfectly thin cuts. The bone marrow was one of the best I've ever had. There is an unlimited side bar which honestly was lacking compared to other shabu places I've been that had more vegetable options. At the counter, there's also curry ground beef with rice that honestly was not too impressed with. All in all, I would come back here for special occasions, but I wouldn't make this place my go to regular for shabu. The entire meal was well worth the first time experience.

Yelp
From start to finish, this place was bomb. Shout out to the best server, Brandon, and all the other servers who came by constantly to take things away, bring more meat, etc. They were able to handle my group of 10, which turned to 9, then 8, then we couldn't decide if we could all squeeze in 1 table or 2, etc. and they handled it with grace, patience, and friendliness. Everyone had a great time; I don't think I had a single item that I didn't like. The area where the sauces/sides was maintained really well, the broths were delicious, and the meats were amazing (get the fancy stuff!) This place was a highlight of my trip and fam reunion--officially obssessed!

Yelp
This was my first time at Mikiya, and it probably won't be my last! I had a great experience here -- came on a Wednesday night around 7pm and it was lively, but not super packed. We opted for the Diamond set, since it was our first time and we were also celebrating a birthday. Our waitress was very nice and patient with explaining the menu, and also checked up on us fairly often. The service was also VERY fast, especially compared to other AYCE places, I felt like it took less than a minute for something we ordered to come to the table. In terms of the food/Diamond set, I thought everything was very yummy and fresh, as it should be for a $100/person meal. I think if it is your first time and you are a big seafood fan, the diamond set is worth it because you can get unlimited specialty dishes, which included norwegian lobster (which was more similar to shrimp than the lobster I'm used to), sweet shrimp sashimi, and king crab. I personally loved all of the seafood, and also the wagyu bone marrow the best. We also got to try their new tom yum and mala broths -- I have no complaints on either, but as a big tom yum fan, I think it could've have used more lemongrass flavor (I prefer haidilao's tom yum broth). We only tried the Japanese wagyus as part of the diamond set, and the beef is very nicely marbled and thinly sliced. I wish I tried the Australian/US wagyu too to compare. They also had plenty of veggies/fish balls/sauces and a wagyu curry on the self serve side. Everything was delicious and I was STUFFED leaving. Ambience/decoration was also very nice -- I loved the lighting and it felt very luxurious as if I was in Vegas.

Nice service. Our server Ethan was awesome. Fresh seafood Great meat quality Very clean and nice ambiance I highly recommend the membership- I would definitely come back

Yelp
Came as a skeptic, left with a fan membership. This is probably one of the most expensive restaurants in Chinatown, but I think it's worth the money due to the high food quality, service and decor. Highly recommend getting the gold menu. The A5 Japanese wagyu is amazing. There isn't any grassy or beefy taste, just melt in your mouth protein. The M9 Australian cuts are equally good, but have a more distinct beefy taste. To truly appreciate the meat, personally I think you need to have it pretty rare and not add any sauce, so I only dipped each piece twice in the broth, literally in and out so that some of the meat was still red. Other favorites include the beef marrow, abalone, scallop, clam appetizer and milk teas. I'm usually not a beef marrow fan but here the marrow has no iron taste and the toast they pair it with helps break down the richness of the marrow. The abalone and scallops are a good size and really fresh. The clam appetizer was fresh with no fishiness and had good flavor. The milk teas seemed to be more like Japanese Royal black/green tea style which I thought paired well with the shabu. We had the sukiyaki and mala soup bases which we really enjoyed. The mala had the spicy and numbness of the peppercorn but in a more mild and subtle Japanese way. The sukiyaki wasn't too sweet or salty. Tommy was really knowledgeable about the menu and attentive. I appreciate how he wasn't pushy about the membership even though I bought it anyway. For $28 the membership pays for itself in 2 visits, so it felt like a no brainer. There's a buffet bar with additional shabu ingredients like sauce condiments, veggies, fruit, and the appetizers but the ice cream and milk teas are not self serve. Only minor complaints are that it would be nice to have wet wipes available because of the crab and shrimp peeling and the ice cream quality should be better at this price point. Overall though, a great place to come celebrate special occasions or bring out of town guests to.

Yelp
Blown away by how amazing this place is. Amazing service, amazing food, and an amazing experience in general. Also love the interior. Me and my husband were back and forth about which set to order, but in the end we ordered the diamond set. Yes, it's the most expensive, but it gives you access to EVERYTHING UNLIMITED!! The amount of bone marrow and other delicious things I ate I lost count. I physically couldn't eat anymore yet I still wanted to eat anymore. I made sure to not eat any noodles (and I love noodles with my hotpot) cause I wanted room to eat more. I highly recommend the spicy miso broth and sukiyaki. Couldn't stop drinking the broth! 10/10 will come back one day.

Yelp
Perfect weather for some fancy Hot Pot! Made reservations via Yelp ahead of time and when we arrived we were able to get seated right away. Tuesdays night weren't as busy, so the service was excellent. Kenji was attentive and made great suggestions as it was our first time at the restaurant. Ordered 2 of the Diamond Wagyu set which was the highest tier and included everything. I loved the fact that I could order unlimited Wagyu Bone Marrow (MUST GET, so buttery) and Wagyu Nigiri (also MUST re-order, very tender and melt in your mouth). For broths, we got the house broth and Sukiyaki (on the sweeter note). Both broths were very light. They have their own make your sauce station with all the necessary condiments for hot pot (sesame, ponzu, spicy soy sauce, green onions, garlic, etc.). Also in the same area is where you can grab your own eggs, fish cakes/balls, tofu, veggies, enoki mushrooms, seaweed salad and more. For meats, my favorite cut was the Japanese A5 Brisket. The marbling on it was crazy good and high quality. I also enjoyed the assorted seafood (also unlimited order) that was included in the set which had crab, scallops , fish and more. The holiday special was the Norway lobster (a little hard to peel and pointy). The sweet shrimp was pretty good though. For desserts, there was an assortment of ice cream and fruits (pink pineapple, grapes and honey dew). Plenty of seating and Japanese styled decor. Restrooms - Clean Parking - free within the Hmart plaza I thought it was quite worth it to try!

Yelp
Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House 90 minute all you can eat experience. There are 4 different levels, we did the Diamond Wagyu Set for $88 per person for unlimited Specialty Dish with a 90 minute time limit. Meat quality was definitely very good, Japanese A5 Wagyu Chuck Ribeye, Japanese A5 Wagyu Brisket, Japanese A5 Shoulder Cut, Full Blood M9+ Australian Wagyu Shoulder Cut, Premium Australian Wagyu, American Wagyu, Jidori Organic Chicken, Kurobuta Pork, Seafood Platter & Seafood Vegetable Platter. I lost count of how may orders of wagyu we had, but we did pretty well and we walked out feeling very full and a little miserable because of how much we ate. Very nice restaurant, staff was very good and attentive, upon request the food came out quickly. Would recommend giving this restaurant a try, not cheap monetary wise. Was a very good experience! Do it!

David N.

Yelp
Is it delicious? Yes. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth it? Depends on how much you can eat. As far as I was concerned it was worth it for me. I opted for the Gold level. It lets you sample the 1 A5 shoulder and Ribeye. And unlimited of the full blood Australian. The a5 was delicious but the full blood Australian was not much of a drop off. I actually enjoyed the Australian shoulder more than the a5. The diamond allows for ayce of any of the a5, the gold gives you ayce of a5 brisket but honestly that was a drop off compared to the other two cuts. They also have a serve yourself sauce bar and veggies. I just stuck with the meat but the gold also comes with a seafood platter that my wife ate. I might try the level below next time just to see if there is a drop off from the full blood to the regular Australian. Service was wonderful and the interior was beautiful.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant and excellent meat quality. We did the Gold and I'd say it was worth it. My only complaint is the spicy miso broth I ordered really wasn't very spicy nor was the miso flavor that noticeable. Service was timely and friendly. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Patrick L.

Yelp
The ambiance is nice but the for the price it was just ok. We chose the diamond wagyu menu. Make sure you pay attention to the menu as the regular and member price was tricky. It also said it was unlimited but it really wasn't. There's better hot pot places out there for the price.

Yelp
Mikiya offers a unique AYCE experience and is a wonderful high-end addition to the Houston shabu scene. I highly recommend... that is... if you can get a table. The food is top tier - high quality meat and seafood, savory deep broth simmering at the table, and an extremely fresh veggie / side dish buffet. We opted for the Gold Wagyu Set. The staff was also kind enough to sub out the fish in our seafood selections with more scallops. If you don't know what to order or what to do, the staff will happily guide you. It's no secret that Mikiya has amazing food... but getting a reservation seems nearly impossible if you're not a member of their insanely expensive Chubby Group... however, there are ways... Yelp allows you to get on the waiting list within a short distance of the restaurant. Unfortunately, I live 25 minutes away from the restaurant. Google allows you to get on the waiting list from any distance. Oddly enough, it still seems powered by Yelp. I got on the waiting list and was quoted a 90-120 minute wait! Hubby and I were able to get ready and arrive just as we received the text that our party neared the top of the wait list. We got there a few minutes past the end of our window and still waited about 10 minutes. I'm a huge fan of Shabu, with Mikiya being #1 for AYCE, and nearby Shabu2 being #1 for table service. If you're a fan of AYCE snd making your own sauce, you will love Mikiya. If you prefer a more straightforward a la carte approach where sauces are made for you, I would stick to Shabu2.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible experience! We ordered the Diamond Selection and were blown away. The wagyu was melt-in-your-mouth perfection, the king crab legs were ultra-fresh, and every ingredient was top quality. The broths were rich and flavorful, and the service was attentive and knowledgeable. Worth every dollar--this is hot pot at its finest!

Yelp
If a meal were to be served in heaven, this is what I think it would be like. Every aspect of this experience was just amazing. I love Kobe A5 beef and have more than my fair share. I've had it shipped to me from various meat purveyors every few months. It's one of my favorite things to enjoy and Mikiya does an exceptional job of sourcing the world's best beef and you can have as much as you want. The sauces were great, the service was impeccable, it was clean, the meat was bright red with tons of marbling - I honestly can't say enough things about not only the meal but the experience in general. I will look back on it often. When I left, I even got to participate in a promotion and caught a fish that gave me a $30 coupon on my next meal - a really cool touch to the most memorable dining experience that I have had in years.

Yelp
Definitely pricey so come for a celebratory meal. 3.5 - 4 stars. I think the silver set would have been just fine. AYCE. I want to start off with saying that my preference is personal pots and this place was the more traditional shared pot. But, it's divided in the middle so you can choose two broths. Ours boiled over so it ended up both being a mix of the two. Was it good, sure. Was it $78 per person (Gold) pre tax and tip good, meh. Also everyone in your party has to get the same set. You could join their annual membership for $28 and get around a $10 discount each time but not sure if that's really worth it either. We tried the Gold set with a group of 4, so I got to try all of the specialty dishes. They were all alright. Just small side dishes with around 2 pieces. Obviously the one per person Wagyu rib eye and shoulder tasted the best. The other ones were also good like other shabu places but nothing noticeably special. We barely touched the seafood platter that came with gold. There is a bar on the side where you can get your veggies, noodles, fruits, and sauces. It's a bit smaller than some of the other all you can eat shabu places. For dessert, I tried their matcha ice cream. It was pretty bad haha. I rather have the shaved ice dessert that you can get at Shabu En. Service was very friendly. Table felt really small with all the stuff and we had to keep tetris-ing our plates until they picked up our finished dishes. And while we were eating a pipe bust or something as water poured from a portion of the ceiling. Luckily it didn't get any customers wet.

Yelp
I went went there again on Friday dinner. The service was still on point:fast and very attractive. I always order diamond because I love A5 which I still cannot find any place better than this restaurant Since the restaurant opened, I saw a lot improvement such as selection on seafood, condiment for saucese.

Yelp
I came here for a celebratory lunch this past Wednesday around 1:30pm, and this place did not disappoint! Top tier service and top tier quality. Walking in, this place has very cool vibes and they are immediately showcasing their A5 Japanese wagyu in a refrigerated case at the entrance. This place is a premium beef lover's guilty pleasure. Just beware, don't come here if you're vegetarian or vegan. They have some vegetables and seafood options available, but to be honest, the steep price is not worth it if you don't eat/enjoy wagyu. Otherwise, dig in!! I went with their sukiyaki and spicy miso broths, made my sauce bowl, and grabbed a few vegetables. By the time, I came back from the self serve bar, my first orders of wagyu were waiting for me. You can't beat certified A5 Japanese wagyu, but I honestly really liked the M9 Australian wagyu just as much if you want to go with the gold tier instead of the diamond tier to save a little money. I loved the rendered down wagyu bits they have available to put on top of your rice, and they offer a wagyu Japanese curry option as well. Once you've eaten to your wagyu heart's content, don't forget to get their matcha and strawberry ice cream as well! Lastly, what's cool about this place is that they offer a yearly membership. It costs $28 upfront, but on every visit it saves you $10 for you and 1 other person. It also gives you a free meal on your birthday! The membership basically pays for itself so I'd highly recommend it! Enjoy!!

Yelp
The food and service was exceptional, but I don't want to go again for a very long time because I tend to overdo it at any AYCE. I think I'll be sweating beef for months after this. We came here on a week day lunch at 1:30 pm, where there was no wait or crowds. We were seated by our waiter, Danton, who was very friendly and made the ordering process easy and the experience pleasant. The menu is partitioned into four categories, each offering higher quality of beef selections - the more you pay, the more premium the beef. It's not until you step up to the 3rd tier where you can get Japanese Wagyu. If you come here, it's worth selecting their 3rd tier option at least once because you can learn about the difference in quality. Although they limit you one serving per person of the good stuff before transitioning you down to the 2nd tier (Australian Wagyu) and 1st tier, you'll be satisfied. By the time we were done with the 3rd course, we were at position of "should we try to eat more to get our moneys worth?", but we opt to not hurt ourselves... too much. There are different broths to choose from. We chose the spicy miso and tomatoes based one. After a while, they all start tasting the same to me. The atmosphere is trendy and feels high end. I was impressed! You can become a member by paying a yearly fee. This gives the member a discount from each tier. It'll be worth it after about three visits, but we don't expect to come often.

Yelp
Of course when I heard there was a new AYCE hot pot spot serving premium A5 wagyu and seafood, I had to try it out. They have different tiers ranging from $45-$98. For my first time I went with the $98 option but can see myself either getting that one of the $78 option in the future. I would recommend going earlier than planned and joining the online Yelp waitlist. We were about 18 in line and it took around 30-45 min to get seated on a weekend. With the highest tier you're able to get unlimited specialty dishes (wagyu tartar, bone marrow, wagyu nigiri, and sweet shrimp). My favorites were the nigiri and sweet shrimp which we definitely ordered repeats of. You also then get unlimited orders of a5 wagyu as well and seafood (snow crab, abalone, scallop, fish, shrimp). Of course with this tier we pretty much only ordered the a5, we had one order of pork but it tasted tough so we didn't order any additional. The a5 was very fatty but also tender, however, I probably ate less than I usually do at AYCE since it's quite heavy. They have 4 broths to choose from so we went with the sukiyaki and house. They have a vegetable bar that you can also get curry rice along with fruit and these really good tofu shrimp balls. Service was also great and they brought out food very quickly for us, shoutout to our waiter Andrew! Overall, Mikiya is a nice spot to splurge on if you're wanting high quality beef and seafood to celebrate a special occasion. However, I personally don't think it's necessary to have such high quality beef typically in hot pot. Their lowest tier starts at $45 which is a little more than other ayce spots in Houston so I'd be more likely to go to the other spots on a regular basis.

Yelp
素晴らしい経験 Subarashī keiken Amazing experience! Dinner with the bestie and she suggested this new shabu house. Weekend dinner time = waiting. There are no reservations on weekends, only available M-F from 1 pm to 5 pm. We got there around 7:30pm-ish on a Friday night and got seated around 8:45pm. They close at 11 pm and we were still there The interior is gorgeous. Very nice and clean and organized. The staff (all of them) were super friendly and helpful. We lucked out and Jay was our server. She was amazing. Her suggestions were great and made the process painless. They have various levels based on meat cuts, seafood, etc. We went with the silver level ($55). Choice of two soup bases, variety of wagyu, seafood platter, small tapa side for each person and a list of items that come complimentary (gyoza, shrimp tempura, etc). There is a small veggie section that is self serve (tofu good luck packs a must). As well as a sauce bar. They have rice (self serve) and two sides (marinated ground beef, curry). Desserts is fruit or ice cream. The meat cuts were marbled, tasty and tender. For us, we had no regrets about the wait, it was worth it. We chose the spicy miso and the soy sauce broths. And Jay just brought us 2 packs of each wagyu to start us off. The meat was nicely cut and delicious. Please make sure to make a good dipping sauce. That makes a huge difference. The seafood. Fresh and so good. Eat it all. The shrimp and scallops were so fresh and delicious. Abalone - say what? Yum, yum! Don't overdue it with the free sides or the veggies, focus on the meat. Although, the "good luck" tofu bags are filled with shrimp and fish roe and we could not get enough). Their check in system is efficient. Check in on the waitlist (iPad), enter phone number and they text a link that shows you the queue and they also use it to communicate. So you don't have to wait inside. There is a small waiting area but it was not ventilated well and got hot. We saw people with shopping bags from Hmart inside This is definitely a spot I'd come back too and make sure to wear elastic pants.

Yelp
A hot new shabu spot in town. It's located by Hmart- Bellaire. On a weekend night, the wait was a bit long given it's currently popular. We couldn't check in online because the waitlist was closed around peak time. When we got seated, our waitress explained to us the different options and show us how to order. We went with the Gold Wagyu set which came with the Japanese A5 Wagyu. The gold set has a limit of one order per person on the ribeye and shoulder cut while the Diamond set does not. The A5 Wagyu brisket was unlimited order. I think it was worth it to try the gold set if it's your first time here. In addition, there were a few specialty dish that came with the set: Wagyu nigiri, Wagyu tartare, Wagyu bone marrow, and sweet shrimp sashimi. We also got the seafood platter with scallops, shrimp, crab, fish etc. There were also appetizers but we opted out because it would have been too filling. These items were brought out by the waiter. At the buffet station, you can get your veggies: tong ho, napa cabbage, mushroom, corn, pumpkin, etc. There were a few cold dishes and the spicy clams were my favorite. They also had curry you could try. I would recommend eating only a little bit because it's very filling. There's also a sauce station but you can also order it with your waiter. We ended up getting half and half on the broth of tomato and house special. I liked the tomato broth because it had more flavor. The cut on the meat was very thin and be sure to not over cook it. Hands down the Japanese Wagyu was the best over the Australian and American Wagyu. Our server did a great job with the service and everything was brought out quickly. Very attentive. There's a 90 minute limit and it wasn't a problem for us as we finished eating in time. Overall, definitely worth it to check out. A great addition to the Houston food scene.

Yelp
Super high quality food options and flavors of the broth were all tasty. We didnt get the most expensive tier but it was still very impressive cuts of meat and seafood options available. The side bar options were plentiful and sauce bar had everything I normally need. Def a little pricier than what I normally get, but I think its worth trying at least once

Yelp
Came here for lunch and my stomach was satisfied. I had the Silver Wagyu set which was good enough for me and my friend. The set came with one specialty dish, which we chose the Wagyu nigiri and the Wagyu bone marrow. The nigiri didn't have a good texture but, the bone marrow was fatty and oily, in a good way. The meats were sliced thinly like what it was supposed to be. They were very fresh too. As for the broth, we had the sukiyaki (highly recommend) and the spicy miso (mild spicy). Loved both soup bases. The set came with unlimited dishes (another menu), and we had the shrimp tempura, fried mini bun, and gyozas. They were ok. A seafood platter which consisted of scallops, crab legs, shrimps, tilapia, and abalone was also included in the set. The seafood was fresh. The vegetable area is at the back of the restaurant. There is a condiment area too. I love the simple decor in Mikiya. The staff were super friendly too. They offer membership at the price of $28 for a year. The membership is valid for the member and a guest. They have rewards program (Chubby Club) where a $1 spend gets 1 point. This is free to join. However, to get the points, you have to scan the receipt in the restaurant only. If you are coming in a group, it is advisable to wait for the whole group to arrive before sitting as the time limit of 90 minutes start once the first person sits. I would recommend making reservation as the restaurant isn't big.

Yelp
After years of watching people in the east and west coast experience the delight of having AYCE wagyu places, it was such a treat to hear that the trend was finally coming to Houston! Walking into Mikiya, you're transported to a beautifully decorated restaurant made to feel like you're sitting at a nice restaurant outside on a terrace in Japan. We were greeted by our waiter, Danton, immediately and he thoroughly explained the menu. There are 4 different tiers you can choose from, all with member and non-member pricing. Members pay $10 less for whenever tier you choose. Membership is $28/yr so if you can imagine yourself coming at least 3 times a year, it's worth it. The cheapest tier is the basic $45 ($35 for members) and it goes up by $10-$15 per tier. Keep in mind you don't get Japanese A5 Wagyu until the Gold tier - the tiers below Gold offer American and Australian wagyu. We opted for the Gold tier ($78) mainly to try the A5, and it was definitely worth it. Though you only get one order per person of all the cuts of Japanese A5 wagyu they have, the marbled fattiness of the thinly sliced meat is more than enough. Each platter came with 2-4 thin slices of the wagyu. For the soup base, we ordered half tomato and half spicy miso, after reading that the house broth was bland. The miso was my favorite and the tomato had great flavor as well. They hit you with the A5 wagyu first and then slowly progressed us to the cheaper cuts of the American rib eye cut and some of the Australian wagyu. Don't get me wrong, these were good in flavor too! But after eating the A5, you could definitely tell there was a lot less marbling and it was a little more gamey. Overall, I would definitely recommend trying this place out!! The service was awesome (thanks Danton!), there was always someone coming around to pick up your empty plates of meat. The ambiance is great for a date night/day but I also saw some families with young kids enjoy their lunch! With the silver tier and beyond, you can order one specialty plate per person. I ordered the wagyu tartare and it was extremely bland. I would recommend the bone marrow instead, and will try the wagyu nigiri next time. Hoping Mikiya has plenty of customers to stick around for a long time to come.

Yelp
Let me start with the "Would I come back here?" Would I come back here? No. Meats are already tender at Shabu/hot pot places. The Wagyu doesn't add any value. Honestly, Mikiya just feels like a place for people to show off how much money they make. So we ordered the $88/per person AYCE option. Service was really good but the kitchen had a tough time keeping up with everyone. The tomato based broth is a pass. I really like the tomato broth at other places but this one wasn't all that for me. Service and atmosphere were top notch (and at that price, I would expect it to be). There is a bottle neck at the self serve area but I'm not going to tell the little old Asian grandma to get a move on. My mom would hit me. Overall, good for a one time visit. Come hungry.

Yelp
Overall good experience coming to the first wagyu shabu house. Upon entering, the inner decor was nice with fridge racks of wagyu beef and the waiting room has a certificate of authenticity for their Kagoshima wagyu. They have both American and Japanese wagyu. Restaurant was pristine clean and plenty of servers and staff. We were sat down almost immediately at our reservation time after our entire party of 4 arrived. Our server was friendly and quick to take our order but not all the staff were thoroughly knowledgeable on all the slices of meat that was delivered to the table. We each got the gold wagyu set which is nearly the same as the diamond set except you get one specialty appetizer dish per person, as well as 1 dish of the Japanese A5 wagyu ribeye and shoulder per person. The diamond allows you to get unlimited everything. We got one of each appetizer since there was 4 of us. That was plenty for all of us to share. Popcorn chicken 4.5/5 good seasoned crispy breading Bone marrow 5/5 Beef nigiri 5/5 Beef tartare 5/5 the egg adds an extra creamy texture Then things start to go downhill. The sauce bar is pretty lacking compared to other shabu spots and the selection of noodles is limited to ramen noodles only. The broth is bland to fair and needed a lot of extra chili sauce to make it spicy for the spicy miso. And just not a lot of flavor to the sukiyaki. The cuts of meat are HUUGE! Which makes cooking the meat a bit longer but also a giant mouthful when you attempt to eat it. We needed to cut each piece multiple times to make the sizes manageable. It would be better if the slices were thinner and smaller to allow for more appropriate cooking time. It's unlimited, they don't need to give us such large thick cuts. The wagyu was ultimately okay. When you're cooking it shabu style, you don't get to truly appreciate the marbling of the wagyu as if it was pan seared. The Australian wagyu was pretty gamey so we weren't a fan of it. You also get unlimited seafood for the hotpot and the fish and scallops were great. But I mainly came here for the wagyu tbh. Unfortunately this wagyu shabu wasn't our style so I rated it 3.5/5 but rounded up to 4/5 for the overall experience. Unlikely we will be back again bc the price doesn't quite match the quality.

Yelp
Overall we had a great experience at Mikiya! The meat quality was excellent and we went for the Gold Wagyu set ($78/person or $68 for members). This let us try all the A5 Japanese Wagyu cuts and came with unlimited A5 brisket. Would highly recommend the Australian Wagyu Ribeye vs the A5 brisket in my honest opinion. The meat melts in your mouth and the ribeye cut for both the A5 and Australian Wagyu were top notch. The A5 Japanese Wagyu is nice to try once but probably not worth it every time as the Australian Wagyu is excellent. The veggie selection was fairly limited with the standard choices at most shabu restaurants (cabbage, enoki mushrooms, pumpkin squash, tofu, chrysanthemum and corn) . I do wish they cut their veggies into smaller pieces so things like cabbage leaves wouldn't be so large. The seafood platter came with a variety of options and I enjoyed the scallops the most. Cooking everything in the seafood platter for 3-5 minutes should suffice. The crab meat was unfortunately a little lacking for me and a bit small. Couldn't tell if it was just not as fresh as the other meats but didn't enjoy the crab as much as I thought I would. There are also four broths to choose from and we had the dashi and spicy miso broths. They were both okay but nothing to rave about. There are some side dishes of white rice and curry (with wagyu). Nice small appetizer. There's also three ice cream flavors to choose from for dessert (vanilla, strawberry and matcha). Ice cream is not self serve so ask your server! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. 5 out of 5 for the staff. Bathrooms were somewhat unkept for the cost/level of restaurant but were fine.

Yelp
Lunch during SOFT OPENING for AYCE shabu. The interior was beautiful. It felt very spacious with high ceilings and different types of lights everywhere. Very clean & luxuriously. The service was very attentive. The quality of the meat was also top-notch, thinly sliced & tender. The menu is limited but allows you to focus on their wagyu meat. If you subscribe to their ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP ($28) you get $10 off the price of the set you choose. That membership perk works for 1+ guest & you do have to be present at the table. We opted to try the SILVER WAGYU SET because it let us try 1 SPECIALTY DISH per person. We did the WAGYU TARTARE & WAGYU BONE MARROW. Both were delicious & looked exactly like the picture. We opted for the SPICY MISO & HOUSE BROTH. I recommended getting the SUKIYAKI rather than the House because it was bland. The cooked appetizers you order with the server but the cold appetizers you grab from the buffet. Veggies, udon, rice, & sauce is self-serve. I enjoyed that they also had MINCED WAGYU & CURRY to go with the rice. It's a sneaky tactic cause it'll make you full but it was too good not to try. The seafood platter tasted fresh with varieties of SCALLOP, FISH, CRAB, SHRIMP, & ABALONE. There may be a limit to how many platters you can get. They have ice cream for dessert.

Yelp
Mikiya Wagyu is worth all the hype, for sure! It's definitely one of the best Shabu restaurants in Houston! The interior has a cool and luxurious ambiance. I highly recommend going for the House Broth and Spicy Miso- both are packed full of flavor. All the Wagyu meats have the most perfect marbling and were so tender. They even provide several tasty house sauces, such as Ponzu Sauce and Sesame Sauce. I thoroughly enjoyed the hot and cold appetizers such as the shrimp tempura and spicy clam. Plenty of options to choose between! Overall, I had an exceptional experience at this restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was so friendly and quick. I can't wait to go back and try the Diamond Wagyu Set!

Yelp
I tried the gold set and it was pretty good but not worth the $78 price point since they limit u for the Japanese Wagyu and specialty dishes. The place was really busy since they just opened so it felt uncomfortable asking questions about which cut was what, etc. bc the servers were in such a rush (they were fast at bringing more meat though!) The Wagyu bone marrow specialty dish was firee and probably the best thing I had. The tartare was underwhelming and room-temperature. The "seasonal vegetable platter" is literally just the veggie bar that everyone can get up to get, which is very limited--no enoki, crab sticks, etc. just basic stuff like cabbage and seafood mushrooms. And I didn't receive my seafood platter and certain specialty dishes until an hour+ into eating. I could see the silver being worth every once in a while, but if you go silver/basic menu I think I'd rather go to Shabu Squared if u want wagyu bc they have slightly more selection in meat cuts and veggies for the same price.

Yelp
We had an amazing hot pot experience! We came in early on the weekend and we're able to be seated once the whole party arrived. We ordered the silver tier with the seafood platter. We got to order 1 special side dish also. I got the wagyu nigiri which was pretty good. I actually really liked the side dishes, the tempura was perfectly fried and gyoza was crispy. The curry was delicious! Meats were very yummy. They even had some pink pineapples there when we went! Staff were super courteous and were patient in explaining the menu. It is pricey for this but if you're celebrating I think it might be worth while. Interior was very cool and modern. Ample parking as it's in a plaza.

Yelp
love this place's aesthetics very fancy shabu house, we walked in to fridges full of premium beef staff made sure we understand the menus and we went for the gold wagyu set that comes with this deluxe seafood platter service was quick, despite it was very packed on a weekday plenty of parking available (is located in hmart plaza)

Yelp
Ben's services were excellent, prompt, and he always followed up with us. The hot pot was delicious our 2 choice broth is spicy miso and sukiyaki broth with high-quality meat and extremely fresh seafood. This is like our 4th time here and not once we are disappointed. We will definitely come back again. Thank you Ben for taking care of us!!

Yelp
Mikiya has joined the Shabu Shabu battle in Houston. With so many great Shabu places in Houston, it manages to hold its own. The restaurant was crowded on a Saturday night, but we were able to be seated quickly by making a reservation on Yelp, which you can't make until you're 5 minutes away. The best thing is that Mikiya offers a lot of options. They have four different menu set tiers. We opted for the silver tier, which came with one very large seafood platter and non-Japanese wagyu. It also came with one special dish per person, so we opted for all 4 options, which were wagyu bone marrow (delicious, nice crispy bread, meat bits added in so it wasn't fat alone), wagyu nigiri (nice and simple, not super memorable), wagyu tartare (also delicious, probably would have preferred that the crackers were not sitting in the juices), and sweet shrimp sushi (I didn't have this as I don't like raw shrimp). They immediately ordered two each of their top sellers, for a total of 6 trays of meat, which were both good but also very filling. They have tons of vegetables and sides available, an option for wagyu Japanese curry which was nice and spicy, and fruits including rambutan and watermelon. They also have fried foods like karaage and katsu but we opted to not go for those to save space for the meat. Overall, this is $$$. It's a lot of food, high quality, with good service. This is the Shabu place if you're feeling really hungry and wanting something extra. A very elevated AYCE hot pot experience. I don't think I'd be able to make a membership worth the cost, but I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
In this review, I am reviewing Mikiya with consideration of the competition like Shabu En and Shabu Zone. To preface, I prefer shabu zone over mikiya because the quality is on par with more variety and for a cheaper price. Food: Basic set ($45) With the basic set you get 3 cuts of wagyu beef. 1. Chuck Ribeye: A big cut of meat, so you do get a lot of beef per tray. It's not exceptionally tender. It is good, but still a chew. 2. Brisket: Another big cut of meat that was not too tender. This one is fattier than the ribeye. I liked this cut the least, personally. 3. Shoulder: I liked this one the best because it is a smaller cut of meat that is quite tender. However, this one does have the strongest meat (gaminess) smell out of all of them. Soup bases (you get 2): 1. Sukiyaki: This was great! A sweet soup base and slightly salty/savory. It infused the meat very well and helped with the flavor. I really enjoyed this one and would recommend 2. Spicy Miso: I wouldn't recommend this one. It was spicy and peppery but no distinct flavor profile that I can quite pinpoint. It was just peppery. I'd try something else. They also had chicken and pork which I did not try. They offer side items and a self serve bar. - Chicken bits: This was good. It was crispy on the outside and tender juicy chicken on the inside. Did need sauce though. - Wagyu build your own curry: This was standard, I wouldn't waste stomach space on it. - Veggie Bar: Very limited options. Not that many different vegetables (in comparison to other shabu spots). - Ice Cream: Green tea ice cream was pretty good! Sauce Bar: Pretty easy and self explanatory. There are helpful guided recipes for making recommended sauces. I liked the sauce I made. Service: Excellent service. The staff were super attentive and everything came out quickly. Ambiance: Excellent ambiance. A great upscale feel with good lighting, noise, and decor. Perfect for entertaining guests, hanging out with friends and family, celebrations, anything really. Overall, for shabu shabu, I would rather go to Shabu Zone. It was fun to try and I am glad we are getting more spots like this in Houston! Of course, I encourage you all to try it for yourself, but for me personally I wouldn't go back just because we have other good options in the area.

Yelp
Compared to shabu zone down the street this is not good. The vegetable bar/options are so minimal. I would not be going back. Even the quality of meat was not amazing to me.

Yelp
3.5 stars for the food but I'll round it up to a 4 because the ambiance is cozy and the service from Daniel was fantastic. He was kind, accommodating, knows the menu & took care of us with a smile. We arrived about 1:30pm on Saturday & it was busy but we didn't have to go on the waiting list and was seated right away. Soon after Daniel came and introduced himself and gave us the run down on the menu & sauce/veggie station. We decided to go for the silver wagyu set which is probably the best option since it comes with seafood platter & a specialty dish (one per person). I went ahead and picked the sweet shrimp sashimi & wagyu bone marrow. I ordered 2 sets of Australian wagyu chuck ribeye, brisket & shoulder cut. My broth of choice was the house broth & spicy miso. While we were waiting on our meats & seafood platter. There is a station where they serve minced wagyu/wagyu curry & rice to go with it. This is definitely a great starter, the curry had decent flavor and wasn't too strong & it paired well with white rice. I think the meat they use for the wagyu beef curry is on the lower end but good nonetheless. The shrimp sashimi was fresh and had a sweetness to it & the bone marrow was savory & fatty. Just wished the bread was toasted a little more. The seafood platter was well presented & fresh except for the snow crab. The fish was low quality but not bad. The shrimp was jumbo size & the scallops are fresh. The meat cuts were tendered especially the shoulder, tasty & marbled. The veggie station offers a variety of vegetables, noodles & fruits. The sauce station needs a lot of work because it's very limited, I'll say that they only have 8 sauces to choose from. The house broth was not tasty at all & needs to be doctored up. Something simple as at least salt/pepper/sesame oil/fish or soy sauce would make the broth taste better. The spicy miso was good enough though. The one thing from the veggie station that I did not like was the money bag, it was stuffed with shrimp on the inside but flavor wise it was terrible & the texture was off. At the end we were stuffed and Daniel came by and offer us dessert (which comes with the set). We opted for a scoop of green tea ice cream. I know it's not made in house but whoever their vendor is, don't make any changes. The ice cream was creamy, sweet but not too sweet & tea flavor was strong. Overall, it was a decent experience but the service from everybody especially Daniel made it a two thumbs up. The only improvement that is really needed is to expand your sauce station because what they have is just not enough. Will I come back? Yes, next time I'll choose their Gold Wagyu set which has the Japanese A5 wagyu cuts. You can't go wrong with Japanese beef because it's one of the best qualities out there.

Yelp
Food was delicious and service was amazing! Highly recommend this place if you are craving hot pot in the Bellaire area!
