🚇Shoreditch High Street 🍺 £6.90 Market Helles The Mikkeller Bar is located on the border between Shoreditch, Hoxton, and Bethnal Green in East London. As part of my visit, I popped around the corner to see the marvellous Leopold Buildings on Columbia Road. The nearest station is Shoreditch High Street, Old Street tube is also close by. There’s been a pub on this site since 1789, originally known as The George & Dragon. The pub closed in 1996 and was converted into a shop, but after ten years it returned to life as a pub in 2006. In 2015, the pub closed again, this time due to a dramatic rent increase. The building then sat dormant for a while before being refurbished and reopening in 2018 as Mikkeller Bar, a partnership between Danish brewer Mikkeller and legendary 1980s pop star Rick Astley. This is a bright, airy and modern one-bar pub/bar with a minimalist feel. The servery sits on the right-hand side, with the taps and an easy-to-navigate tap list at the back. Decor-wise, there’s a boarded floor, pale green walls, pendant lighting, plus some unique artworks and mirrors, plus plenty of low level seating. The beer selection is excellent, with a broad range of 20 ales, lagers and stouts to choose from. After a bit of browsing, I settled on a Market Helles, one of Mikkeller’s own-brewed beers. My pint was very agreeable, price point was a bit punchy. This is a wet-led pub, so no food is served. I arrived around 2.30pm on a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon in October. The pub was busy, with a good mix of punters from all walks of life. The atmosphere was upbeat and buzzy, with a friendly, inviting feel. Service was great — the chap on duty was welcoming and laid-back, with everything under control. Even though this place has a minimalist look, it still has a distinctly “pubby” atmosphere. Beer lovers will definitely be pleased with the variety on offer. This is a clean, fresh and hipster craft beer pub experience in East London. I’ve been a couple of times and enjoyed the atmosphere. Of the 14+ beers on tap, you can request a sip or two to try, or ask for recommendations from the bar staff, but you’re mostly gambling on what pint to go for. 🍺 Some sour, some bitter, some smooth, some incredible and some exceedingly strong!! All part of the fun. The wine selection is good, and spicy margs on tap can never be a bad thing (I have not tried them yet). 🌶️ I have only attended for drinks, I haven’t tried the pizza that is delivered from a kitchen up the road. Tip: While I would usually hesitate to try a craft stout the one here is actually highly palatable - strong coffee notes.

Fantastic hidden away locale off the busy boulevard, but not so far. Great beer selection, clean, comfortable and easy to enjoy your pint. They also offer pizza.

Wow what an excellent pub with a great selection of craft beers, with excellent staff that allowed sampling before purchasing. Ordered a pizza from Yard Sale Pizza and ate it in the pub! Had a wonderful evening with the family. Song lyrics on the tables to hint at the owner. Sadly he was not serving when we visited! A must visit whilst in the area.

Great Shoreditch bar and pub with 20+ craft beers on tap. Wide ranging and interesting choices from dark beers to raspberry sours. Pizza place next door if you need something to go with the beer. There are a lot of seats inside and some outside. It's usually quite packed in the evenings so do be prepared to stand.

Great beers but that's it. The place was packed with loads of chatting and laughing people so why have music on that you can only hear a far?ing bass thump. Seats are uncomfortable but I guess they aren't expecting people to spend hours in there.

Great spot ! Very open space and good vibe. Will be back ! Update June 2024 I've been coming here for the last three years. It's my favorite bar in London. Great for people watching and have a great beer. They always have a wide variety of beers that they change permanently.

I’ve visited so many Mikkeller pubs and they never disappoint. Great selection of beers as always, paired with an awesome food offering (you can order pizzas delivered with a code for free delivery), plus the beautiful Mikkeller merchandise. 👍👍

Mikkeller makes great beers. My favorite is New England IPA. Offering a fun space to drink their fantastic beers is the perfection you need any night of the week. Prices are competitive, no mark up. The staff and patrons are super friendly. The atmosphere is laid back where everyone can enjoy themselves. There's even a bit of merch available, should you like some. Being Mikkeller fans, my fiance and I always make an effort to visit a country's Mikkeller bar, if it's ever available. We found ourselves walking distance from London's Mikkeller Bar, so it was fate - even though we had already visited the Mikkeller Brewpub the day before! Staff at all Mikkeller's seem to be just as inviting and friendly as the next! We had a few of the Mikkeller London beers, and also ended up buying a glass and two shirts. Their merch is so adorable, with the guard's hat and attire! Definitely ask if they have additional sizes in the back. They were also nice enough to grab a brand new glass for us! It seems to be busy here as well as the brewpub, no matter what day of the week it is!

Came here last night with a friend. The place has recently opened but it feels like an old watering hole already. In fact, all the animals were lined up to slake their thirst: the illusive artist all in black, the mustachioed hipster, the longhair plaid shirted type who would look more natural with a PBR in hand. The place was packed. There was barely any room to even lean against a wall. We were planning to try several beers, but only stayed for one round. Though Mikkeller has surged in popularity recently, polarising popular opinion somewhat due to its hype and rather high prices, we were pleased with our selections. However. The menu differed substantially from what was listed online, and the beer I was most excited about wasn't on tap. Furthermore, prices are high. I paid for 2/3 of a pint what I might pay for two pints elsewhere. Finally, those aforementioned animals flocking to the watering hole sure were making a squawking, hawing, hullabaloo. That, coupled with the way-too-loud music (management: just turn it down! You're not a club!), meant one had to practice one's best actor/singer training to project the voice and be heard by one's conversation partner sitting so close our knees were touching. I've been a fan of Mikkeller since around 2012, and was happy to try their Pale and their Oregon Hazy with Strawberry. The staff were friendly too. And like any good craft beer bar, they offer tasters so you can try-before-you-buy. But I don't think I'll be back. It was just so loud and crowded that even quality beer couldn't make up for it.

I swear I'm not making this up - Mikkeller opened this bar with Rick Astley. Yes, *that* Rick Astley. There are his song lyrics on little plaques on every table. His photo is on the wall. Anyway, Mikkeller beers are... fine. I'm not their biggest fan, but at least they've got quantity. Lots of special beers you can only get in the shop. Lots of styles. Most of them just fine. The place can get crowded, but there's a lot of standing room.
