I was in the North End, not exactly finding any place I wanted to eat lunch at. So I did some research and found Milano's up in East Boston. My advice? Skip anything in the North End, and just come here.
I had the Italian Sub Grande with six, count 'em, six layers of toppings. More imported cold cuts than I can name, provolone and mozzarella cheese, herbs, peppers, onions... So much that it doesn't fit in the ciabatta roll it's served on. Which brings me to the ingredients of the sandwich. Every ingredient on that sandwich was the absolute best you can find. The meats, cheeses, and vegetables were all flavorful and fresh. The bread was incredible, chewy and soft. I ordered the Italian style fries which were, like the sandwich, delicious. They're covered with flavorful herbs, garlic, and parmesan. Hot, crispy, great flavors.
The service was friendly and fast. Prices are a bit on the high side (about $11 for the small sandwich, about $6 for the fries) but hey, first of all -- it's some of the best food I've had in a long time, and second, that was enough food that I couldn't even eat dinner after having this for lunch, and I am a three meal a day kind of guy.
Bottom line, this deli is more than worth it. If I am ever in this area hungry again -- which I probably will be -- you can bet I'll be stopping here again, and I couldn't recommend strongly enough that you do too.
