"Milo Butterfingers has long been an iconic dive bar in this town, perhaps best known as the bar where Born on the Fourth of July starring Tom Cruise shot scenes, although it has also been in episodes of Walker, Texas Ranger plenty — er, the Chuck Norris years. It got a big remodel that made its public debut late in November and it remains hot as ever for the SMU party crowd. Head here for beers and straight-up cocktails. No fancy stuff. But the couches are clean now." - Courtney E. Smith

"The newly revamped and reopened Milo Butterfingers is a little cleaner and newer than the O.G. but the vibes are still right. You just won’t stick to anything now. All the beers and screens everyone loves are still there. And they kept the twinkle lights." - Courtney E. Smith, Kevin Gray

"Many cinephiles might remember Milo Butterfingers as Arthur’s Bar in Born on the Fourth of July, where Tom Cruise’s character gets into an intense fistfight. This grungy dive bar has also appeared as a watering hole for Chuck Norris’ character on Walker, Texas Ranger. But on weekends, you can expect Milo’s to be packed with passionate sports fans and debauched college students. Now that’s a movie-worthy setting itself." - Alex Gonzalez

I highly recommend paying by cash. I had a beer last week and had to leave urgent so missed to sign my transaction. since then my card was charge 2 times in different days even though I didn’t visit the place. It is weird here, I’m scared of identity theft or data privacy with my credit cards. It’s strange as it sounds, I highly doubt waiters/bar tenders work here. Especially, be careful with J guy who served me beer, added his own tip, added 2 more beers later in the week.

Milo’s is hands-down one of the best spots around, and the bartender Jill makes it truly exceptional. From the moment you walk in, she makes you feel like family. Her warm, welcoming demeanor and genuine interest in her customers turn a casual outing into a memorable experience. The recent renovations have transformed Milo’s into a cool and welcoming space. The vibe is modern yet cozy, with plenty of pool tables for a fun night out. While the tables are a bit more expensive at $2 per game, the experience is totally worth it when paired with the fantastic service, cheap drinks, and the relaxed yet lively atmosphere. Milo’s has become my go-to place for great times, great drinks, and great people. If you’re looking for a spot where you’ll feel right at home while enjoying top-notch service and a fun ambiance, Milo’s is it—and Jill is a big part of what makes it so special. Highly recommend!

**Milo Butterfingers – A Dallas Icon with a Fresh New Look!** Milo Butterfingers has always been a classic Dallas staple, and after the recent renovations, it’s better than ever while still holding onto that nostalgic charm we all love. The updates have given the place a fresh new vibe, but walking in still feels like stepping back into the old Milo’s—where good times, cold drinks, and great company are guaranteed. One of the best additions? The new patio! It’s the perfect spot to kick back with friends, enjoy a beer, and take in the laid-back atmosphere that has made Milo’s a go-to spot for generations. Whether you're a longtime regular or a first-timer, you’ll appreciate the way they’ve managed to upgrade without losing the soul of what makes Milo Butterfingers a true Dallas icon. If you haven’t been since the renovations, do yourself a favor and check it out—you won’t be disappointed! 🍻

Another Dallas staple refreshed! Wow! This place hadn’t changed since my high school days (not so much in a good way). Great to see SMU blvd getting with the times. What an amazing transformation while keeping the nostalgia and respecting the name. Well done!

Google
This place lived up to the hype as the best dive bar in the area. College age kids take over around 10 or 11, although the place is big enough to handle larger crowds. This is a good place to watch games. New ownership has done a good job.

Google
I'd been wanting to play Darts and I recalled I use to play Dart Tournaments here in the late '80's, so We went to see if they still had some Dart boards and they did. They have about 5 in different parts of the place. They get occupied pretty quickly. The bartenders are very nice and attentive. The drinks are good. I've never eaten there, but the food smells so good. It's a huge SMU College crowd, but I still had fun! The place is very laid back. They even have outdoor sitting. I most definitely will be going back to play darts and try their food. 8-30-2023 I was in the mood for more Darts and also hungry, so I tried their beef nachos and Wings. They were both so good. Mindee was so Nice, Friendly and Very Attentive to our needs. Milo's will most definitely be our hang out spot. Can't wait to go back!🎯🍺🍔🍗

Google
Still wrapping my head around the renovations. Came back home for the holidays and hadn’t been to Milo’s in years. Almost had a heart attack seeing the updates ha! But they made it look like Ron Burgundy’s basement which fits Milo’s. The bar is longer and seats more comfortable, drinks still strong , still can’t tell how the weather is outside which I just how I like it. A couple of the faces are now gone/retired but it still hit

Google
The renovation of one of Dallas greatest dive bars (inside is finished; patio is almost complete) is a great service to the community. Friendly service in a neighborhood bar. The famous patty melt on marble rye is better than ever. That griddle cook team is the best. Good cole slaw, too. Prices are still reasonable.

Yelp
Holy Glow Up Milo's! Did you go through a divorce and get all the money and get all the things done because damn girl you look GOOOOOOD, but you're still the same bad ass wholesome b*tch. The food is better, the smell is WAY better, the bar (OH THE BAR!), the back area, the pool table area is somehow greater, even the ceiling is better!!! And please spend some time looking at the pictures on the walls, they managed to keep the fun of Milo's and add some pop culture necessities (watch out for that next step, it's a doozy). For a timely staple in Dallas that needed a much needed facelift, I know we were all worried that this was going to be changed too much with the new owners but that is NOT what happened here, they put so much life back into it to keep it alive for more generations to enjoy what generations before have loved about it without losing the charm. Oh and the bathrooms!!!! Chef kiss!

Grayson W.

Yelp
What a place. Upon entry you're greeted by a large room, littered with Christmas lights. Immaculate vibe. Just when you think, "man this place can't get any better" you look behind the bar and they have peroni on ice. At this point I'm already sold, but the beers only being $5 really knocked it out of the park. I don't know Milo, but I'd let him date my unborn daughter. Take notes, Stans

Yelp
Service has gone way down hill. Been going here for over 25 years. Went last night, got our initial drinks, food. Then was ignored while other tables got 2 rounds of drinks, food, over 30 minutes with no one coming to get our order. Will not go back.

Lexi B.

Yelp
Fries were the best, new construction was nice, food better than expected. Thank you Milos for the experience and crispy fries.

Alicia V.

Yelp
Went the other day with my husband. The place is gloomy dusty and dingy feeling. The door guy seemed drunk himself, checking IDs. Ordered a drink and went to the booths to watch the game and enjoy conversation. The booths were worn and old. We finished up one drink and got another. We were half way finished and the drunk door guy was going around trying to take drinks from people. He stumbled over to us and said drink up or I'm taking them, very rude and aggressive. My husband asked what the problem was it's not even closing time, about 1:30. He calmed down and said the bartender made me. So we told him the bartender can come get the drinks she just poured us or she should have let us know before pouring we are going to have to down the drinks asap. Bartenders were rude nasty people. Thank you for the treatment. Will never step foot in this poop hole ever again.

Cole S.

Yelp
Fun cheap dive bar. Four pool tables. No more buck hunter. Quesadillas are great. Christmas lights are fun. One darts board.

Brady S.

Yelp
New ownership as of December 2024 is OUT OF THEIR MIND. Who tf wants to pay $2 per game of pool? Are you high???? Renovations looks fine but we go there strictly for pool. Will be going to other bars where they don't nickel and dime for a simple game of billiards lol

John D.

Yelp
One of the the best consistent experiences I've been too. Daily food specials to keep it interesting, consistent attentive service across the board. Throughout the course of a day have 3 or 4 different crowd types and cater to all of them excellent

Dr M.

Yelp
Exactly what you expect. Dive bar with heavy pours and friendly service. Will be going back.

Rachel A.

Yelp
Still the best dive in bar in Dallas! Great food & service! Arcade games, pool, other games!

J Z.

Yelp
Best I bar around, you can't beat the prices, and you absolutely cannot beat the staff been going there for 15 years. Will be for the next 15 more period. They good people and you just can't fake that.

Ken D.

Yelp
After reading a few reviews and seeing the article in D magazine, I had to check this place out now that it's got new ownership and a remodel. I was sad to see how they gutted it but boy, it really looks good. There are some things they need to finish, like the patio and I hope they do something to the entry because it feels anemic and missing something. Also, the place seems smaller. I really like the color scheme they went with and all the corny pop culture decor they added(love the Burt Reynolds). I'm happy to see that most of the staff is still there(I won't shed any tears they got rid of that rude night bartender). The owner seems like most bar owners, protective of his investment and uses the place to chase women once his wife goes home for the night. No surprises here, just exactly what you'd expect from a bar owner. I'd heard stories and judging by the last review, they are probably true, but as long as you keep your date away from him, you'll probably be good. Aside from the new owner, the place looks great and I hope the staff is treat well and does great, especially with the new clientele. The 44 farms burger is ground and formed into patties in house, so you know it's good, BUT is it as good as the Milo's burger of olde, nah. P.S. They need to bring back the mozzarella sticks and keep the kitchen open past 10p. This was the place to go get drunk bar food on weekends. Also, they now have a DJ on weekends and I'm not a fan of having a DJ in such a small space, but hey, No more of those impossible to wash off stamps on my hand anymore!

Mark O.

Yelp
After looking for a place to go eat, we looked at their website and it said "all people are served". Showed up with my family and were told to go away.......21 and older only. FIX YOUR WEBSITE MILOS!!! VERY MISLEADING! N

Eric W.

Yelp
The staff are unbelievably rude since the new ownership took over and the food somehow got worse. It's still a gross bar with dirty bathrooms - that much did stay the same. They wouldn't even put the SMU vs. Florida State game on the TV on a college football Saturday which is mind-bogglingly absurd because it's an SMU bar across the street from the University. Don't waste your time dealing with the mean/nasty staff and bad food. The security are huge jerks for no reason too. There are dozens of other better dive bars and restaurants nearby. As someone who went to SMU and spent years of fun nights at Milo's, it's sad what this place has become and I won't be going back. Save yourself the bad experience and just go to Barley House across the street.

Ryan P.

Yelp
Bouncer has some sort of personal vendetta against me. He didn't let me in because my ID had "no wiggle", even though I'm 23 and my two friends who are 22 & 23 got let in with the same Texas ids. Last time I tried to get in he didn't let me because I was "too drunk". Will be speaking with the manager tomorrow. Very unfortunate because I've had some good experiences there when I've been able to get inside in the past

Priscilla S.

Yelp
rude bartenders, smells, looks like a lot of people in here but not a really nice place. In general just rude service.

Richard D.

Yelp
Cheap bar with good vibes. Biggest downside is the balding bartender with a mega attitude. He will look you over and decide whether you're "worthy" to be served. Go get a new job bozo

Hyun P.

Yelp
We were here on a Saturday night, it had a college bar atmosphere, there were some older people as well. Very laid back. I got wings and beer and everything was good. The outside patio is smoking, and full of smokers, so if you prefer non smoking you would probably want to stay inside.

Kristi S.

Yelp
just don't ... i can't underscore it more as a server myself I've never seen worse service from the bar staff and waitresses in my life... on a new level so low that words escape me. how is this place still open with this kind of service... oh wait... underage 20 yr olds make a great cash flow... ick... so much ick....

Troy P.

Yelp
I've passed this place so many times without even noticing it. It's a small unassuming front with a tiny patio. But after walking in you notice how big it actually is. There are lots of diversions such as bar games and TVs to keep you drinking there long with your mates. The drinks were cheap and strong, but don't expect anything too fancy. The food though was a bit disappointing. Just cheap greasy food to soak up the alcohol. I would suggest dinner across the street and drinks here to finish up the night.

Bud R.

Yelp
If you're thinking lunch, Scotty will seriously hook you up. I always get the special. My favorite daytime pitstop. Service is great, after you've been here about three times everybody knows your name. Can't speak about the evening atmosphere because I don't spend evenings at college bars, but when the sun is out and bright, this is some nice shade.

Davis F.

Yelp
if you're ever looking to start your night fun with some drinks this place COULD be a good spot... but if you plan on staying for more than 1 or 2 drinks this isn't your place. Mr. Brooks, who works at the bar loves to make sure of that. after 1 pitcher... don't even worry about it! Your eyes "don't look right" Don't worry, he's gonna kick you out! Super fun place and worker! I just love it!

Beau B.

Yelp
Wow. The staff could not be more disrespectful. Please, I beg you, find somewhere else to spend your money. No more words needed.

Anthony B.

Yelp
If I could give 0 stars it would be. The most trash bar to ever go to. Very discriminative, bartender took one glance at me (Hispanic) and was told I wouldn't be served because of the smell of marijuana. Don't even smoke. It was a Tuesday night. Guy was a dick. Drink elsewhere for a nice night

Elijah C.

Yelp
Good drinks cold beer friendly environment but my mozzarella sticks always come out cold

Hunter L.

Yelp
The guy working on Friday evenings at the bar seems to have a chip on his shoulder, very unfriendly and deliberately disrespectful on both occasions I've met him. Other occasions when I've visited have been mostly fine, but I'm not really comfortable with an establishment that employs a guy like that in the service industry. Seems they also have a habit of talking poorly about customers in front of their face with the other bar staff, I've not experienced anything like that before. I'd much prefer a place where the bar staff talks negatively about a person when they walk away as opposed to standing right in front of them, thanks Rebecca. Perhaps it's the vibe the place wants to put out, not sure. Seems to be pretty successful though, so perhaps there's a profiling problem. It doesn't seem like customer feedback is really welcomed, nor does it really make a difference, so expect to be funneled in and out while the college students get the preferred treatment. Will not be returning.

Melissa C.

Yelp
A fun bar obviously a SMU bar. Tons of people late at night good drinks. Sat at the bar had fun.

Parris T.

Yelp
Invited here for a friends Dirty 30th Birthday party! How wonderful! It was incredibly busy however, the service was awesome! Good food, good drinks and great people! How could a girl ask for more?! Will be back!

Frederick R.

Yelp
Great bar! Cheap beers, clean taps, tasty burger! Candace was our server and she was great!! The yuengling was delicious!!

David M.

Yelp
Worst place I've ever been to! The Friday night manager was rude to customers and im surprised they keep him. Flies constantly in your drink! Im going to check the health department reports! Don't go there! Worst management in Dallas!

Nahiyan K.

Yelp
The archetypal Dallas sports bar. This place has been around in several iterations around Dallas, and old regulars indicate that it's kept the same spirit. It's mostly college kids on any given night, which makes sense since it's on SMU Blvd and Greenville. Plenty of TVs to watch the game and plenty of bar games for those less inclined. There's a decent patio up front as well. I count on running into several buddies whenever i walk in. These walls have seen a lot and Milo's is a sure stop whenever I'm back in Dallas.

Bryan T.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to go. Cheap drinks and quality bar food with one of the best atmospheres in Dallas.

Sydney B.

Yelp
Love Milos! Go to dive bar, service is great! Fun games like pool tables and darts, always have the games on as well!

Jake G.

Yelp
They let in underage kids all the time Security at the front is a complete joke. Take bribes. Avoid this bar. I've been a long term visitor of the bar and will no longer be visiting . Manager and leadership are rude, just take the comment below for an example.

Allison F.

Yelp
Came here for the first time and the drinks and food were good! Love all of the tv's and dart boards and the environment! Definitely will be back to watch a game or have a burger!

Anna Grace M.

Yelp
This is my ideal dive bar in every single way. Friendly bartenders, cheap drinks that are 99.9% alcohol with a splash of mixer, pool tables, darts, dark and lots of tv's! Definitely an SMU staple

Jim W.

Yelp
If you notice the so called General manager always replies with "we take comments very seriously". He wasn't there when I had 4 SMU student witnesses when a manger kept punching me in the face with his nose as he talked. Then he has the balls to say that's why you are "exterminated"! Really? I'm probably going to pursue defamation charges against them now! Get ready!

Aaron B.

Yelp
Great service, strong drinks. Friendly crowd. Great little college bar near SMU. Mix of students and older patrons. Would definitely go there again.

Jesse B.

Yelp
Told me I was to drunk and my eyes were "glazed". Wouldn't serve me a beer. I had one drink?

Noelle C.

Yelp
5 star bar. It's not fancy by any means but it is super clean inside and out. However the environment is immaculate, we sat down to watch some Sunday football, have a couple beers and a snack. The carnitas soft tacos were phenomenal; whoever made these put their whole heart and soul on the line. The staff was super friendly and we honestly felt the most welcomed here out of any bar we've visited yet. They also offer pool tables, foosball, a few electronic games and darts.

Tate H.

Yelp
Milo's has fantastic service and food. The atmosphere is relaxing yet inviting. The bar tenders are all kind and friendly and always have a sense of humor.

Jordan W.

Yelp
Great place to watch sports, play pool, hang out with friends, and just enjoy a day off or evening right across from the SMU campus! Everyone should know by now I'm a big advocate for finding the best sports bars and hangout spots, but I think this one spikes whenever school is back in and college football, as well as NFL football, is in full swing. There isn't really a lot of seating at the bar, so make sure to get there early if you have a game to watch around noon or so. I just stopped in for lunch, and it was pretty good. I had the special which was chicken fried steak with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans. There was one chef in the kitchen, and he knows how to cook great food. I even gave him a compliment. The steak itself was nice and tasted great, especially with the breaded outer layer. The meat was not too overdone, and I would keep going back for a lunch if I lived here. There are other things such as burgers, sandwiches, and other good bar food. But this special was the bomb! Pool tables and other TV's are located in the back, so some people might come here for a night of fun or just to kill some time. I think it might be more busy at night as everyone is off work and students might be on break from classes. But I think a playoff NFL game would be exciting here, or March Madness. If I ever make another trip to the Metroplex, this is for sure going to be a stop to try again. The service is also top notch! The bartender I had, Mrs. Sue, was the most friendly person I've encountered in my years of going to restaurants. She welcomed me to the city, and recommended any good spots before heading to Arlington for a Rangers game. Good food, good service, and a fun time is what you're going to find here!

Diane G.

Yelp
Great local spot for drinks! We were in Dallas sightseeing and stopped in for some beverages. The bartenders, Mindy and Sue were so much fun! Friendly and historic, definitely a must see.

Rosalynda L.

Yelp
I would come here before the COVID-19 shutdown. So happy they opened back up!!!! I would come here at night but decided to switch things up and go during the day & I was not disappointed! The bartenders were these two ladies who were hilarious and super attentive. My fiancé and I had the whole pool tables to ourselves and the food we ordered was amazing! So glad y'all are back up for business!!

Anthony G.

Yelp
Great place for some sports, local food and drinks. Friendly staff and the owner is on point even if he is a saints fan lol Has the cheese, jalapeño and bacon frys It will fill you up so don't try to tackle this alone Tons of TVs and even pool tables for half time

Mike H.

Yelp
Great place to go. Try to get in there a couple times every time I'm in Dallas visiting my daughter. Great staff cold beer an excellent excellent food. Scotty rocks the flat top grill . Sue and the rest of the girls always make me feel welcome Sue's always got a smile on her face. I'm not from around here but I feel like I'm a regular when I'm in the bar. I love to play Golden tee off and there's never a problem seeing how they have three machines. Also for pool tables, darts and a patio. I love the place and plan on a few more visits before I leave at the end of the month

Nick T.

Yelp
Worst bartenders I've ever met... a woman had a conflicting issue with my wife for being in tears with the result of a game and tried to start an issue. We tried to resolve the issue but we're kicked out by a half baled bartender since he had a crush on the lady starting the issue. Please do not come to this establishment as the bartenders are more worried about being laid than they are about serving their customers

Nina B.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible establishment!! My friends and I were just now kicked out for having a "fake license" ... are you joking? It's the brand new Texas license with the black and white photo.. the blonde bartender tonight is not only STUPID for thinking this is a fake license, but her demeanor and attitude could definitely use an ethics class or two. Maybe before making claims and accusing people of doing something illegal like carrying a fake license... you should probably know a thing or two about what our state licenses LOOK LIKE??? Dumb ass.... First and last time at this shit hole.

rc b.

Yelp
People that know me know I love great food. But sometimes the basics right here in Dallas can top the best restaurants in the world. I slipped into Milo's late today fearing that their soulful home cookin' chef, Scotty, might leave before I caught the daily special. I lucked out. On a cold day foreshadowing an upcoming winter wonderland, Scottycooked up a full plate of Chicken Fried Steak, mashed potatoes and bacon and butter laced green beans with more soul than Marvin Gay. The delicious grill cooked Texas Toast helped me soak up every bit of flavor on my plate. Living in this wild world, sometimes a meal cooked by the likes of Scotty can make all problems seem trivial... and I didn't even have a drink.
