"All hail the giant gold burrito! Marked with the words “wrapped for your protection” this monster of a meal along with family style tacos is what makes this menu a favorite. While the eatin’ is good, don’t forget to explore the drink menu. Some say their frozen Satanico cocktail is just what you need to get you through that after lunch lull... but we really can’t speak to that." - Fuzzco

"The wings at Mexican restaurant Minero are grilled over charcoal and then shaken up at your tableside with a liberal dousing of Valentina hot sauce. It’s smoky, tangy, and a little messy." - Erin Perkins, Parker Milner

"A Mexican-meets-Southern restaurant returned to Johns Island by a chef known for work at a local oyster house; the menu mixes favorites like charcoal-grilled wings with Valentina hot sauce and benne salsa and a super-stuffed burrito smothered in Oaxaca cheese with additions such as fajitas, Yucatán-style fish with pibil sauce, shrimp and snapper ceviche, and a weekend breakfast burrito." - Erin Perkins

"Reopening more than two years after its downtown Charleston closure, this Mexican restaurant at 3140 Maybank Highway relaunches on Thursday, June 9 under Neighborhood Dining Group with chef Shamil Velazquez (also of Delaney Oyster House) leading the kitchen. Velazquez restores classics from the original 2014 menu—charcoal-grilled wings dressed in Valentina hot sauce and benne salsa and the super-stuffed burrito topped with Oaxaca cheese—while introducing new items like fajitas, Yucatan-style fish with pibil sauce, shrimp and snapper ceviche, and a weekend breakfast burrito. The bar brings back the frozen El Satanico and adds a frosé sangria. The light, airy dining room is decorated with Oaxacan alebrijes and opens onto a climate-controlled patio with neon orange and green seating and plenty of plants. Service is first-come, first-served; hours are 4–9 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday, and 4–11 p.m. Friday and Saturday." - Erin Perkins

"With chef Shamil Velazquez assuming executive chef duties, the Johns Island Minero will lean into larger, dinner-style entrées and more seafood while retaining fan favorites — including the massive burrito, Valentina-soaked wings, and fried catfish tacos — that customers already love." - Erin Perkins
