I stopped by Franklin Social with a friend on 10/26/24, after we made reservations immediately after we heard about the soft reopening via social media. We were very excited, and upon entry we were greeted by two friendly hostesses. Seated very promptly and then things started to take a turn quickly. We ordered our cocktails from the menu which were very tasty. It took sometime to receive the drinks but figured it's ok, it's a soft opening, maybe there's sometime for improvement.
Keep in mind the restaurant was also half empty and we noticed there were 5 people behind the bar. This isn't something you normally see in Jersey City or anywhere, but ok keep it moving.
After we received our cocktails, 20 minutes went by prior to our waiter coming back for our appetizer and entrée orders. We told ourselves maybe the waiter is new, all good.
We couldn't comprehend the delay when again the restaurant is half empty, 2 managers just standing around like statues. If you notice your staff is busy or needs help, why don't you step up??
Normally anyone else would step in to ensure a smooth dining experience during a reopening timeframe especially!
For apps with ordered the chili rock shrimp which was tasty!! and the harvest salad. After receiving our apps, no one checked in to make sure the food is good, or would you like to order more cocktails. just common courtesy.
Another 20 minutes later, our entrées arrive, and still no one has offered a reorder of drinks, how was your app?, or have we seen our waiter?
Keep in mind the two managers are being statues and you can't help but laugh and wonder, what in world is going on...?
As the restaurant starts to become even busier, we know we need to leave ASAP. The burger was unfortunately a disappoint and the Orrichiette looked like someone ate half of it and served the rest.
Not once did anyone come by asking, how was your meal? how was your dining experience? Which is honestly shocking.
This isn't a new restaurant, its a reopening, you are apart of a hospitality group which normally has standards and I wished someone would've asked how this evening was to avoid writing a tragic, review as downtown JC is small and mighty and we want restaurants to thrive.
Unfortunately it's hard to see this place once again after the fundamentals seem to be aspirational.
