Mirage Diner

Compared to other restaurants the food quality isn’t great, things taste frozen and processed. However, given their massive menu this is to be expected. Where this diner shines is its friendly staff, late operating hours, parking and massive portion sizes. If you’re on a night out with some friends and need a cheap place to sober up this place hits the spot.

The diner is located in the Gravesend section of Brooklyn. It was formerly called the Townhouse diner. I have dined in or ordered takeout for many years. The diner offers various breakfast options, lunch and dinner specials. The food is prepared consistently and quickly. I like the various omelettes and pancakes for breakfast. The burger deluxe combination are always a good choice. Friendly staff that remember me and my family.

This was a great experience. The food was really good. The lunch specials are reasonably priced, and the portions are perfect. The staff was great. I was there for lunch. I heard the staff going back and forth while working hard, and it brought fond memories for me as I first started serving in a Greek diner in my home town lol the manager was a great guy firm but fair. I was all nosey today. Great spot, great food, great prices, and PARKING !!!!!!!

The service provided by the waitress was excellent. The grilled chicken sandwich was decent, while all the other breakfast items were fantastic. The atmosphere was quiet and enjoyable. The cappuccino was particularly delightful.

We're here finishing up as I write this. Party of 3 for Thanksgiving. Super busy. The food was delicious, the service was fast and attentive. Our waiter, George, has done an absolutely fantastic job all the way around. This place has always been great, but this goes above and beyond. Highly recommend, a great experience. 😁😁

Ordered from Uber Eats. The food was so fresh and delicious! Seriously, it’s some of the best diner food in the area and I’m glad I ordered. I can’t wait to order from there again. Tuna sandwich was good, cheese fries and gravy were great—they add a pinch of nutmeg to the gravy and it really takes it to a new level! Burger was tasty, curly fries were curly as heck, soup was delicious. Wish they gave more than 2 balls for a large size. Rainbow cake was too moist for me, but the roomie loved it. Thanks!

I wasn’t a bit impressed with this place. Has a parking lot so that’s a bonus, but the parking lot is right off a busy road so it feels a bit unsafe to me at times. The food is nothing special and the service is not that great. The front counter manager was watching a live sporting event with his staff on tv and was loud and unprofessional during breakfast. Typical Brooklyn. This place has no class.

Ordered a lemon meringue pie for my buddy's birthday and it was great. They had it ready for me 30 mins after I called. They are very friendly & amicable. Their prices are reasonable. Great place!

My fiancé and I come to this spot a lot on and off for breakfast and dinner. I'm always happy. It's diner food with a little nostalgia.

great !! everything ! went there with my friend , friday night and we wated to grab a bite - and it came out as a great dinner and diner ! the waiter was great , nice smiling , a real people person and knew the menu so well and detailed ! been a while since i saw a waiter that took it so pro . food was fresh, good , well made ,big portions and very large selection and options. the music was in a volume that we can hear it and still have a nice talk ( all places now days blast the music as if its a club - cant enjoy the company nor the food ) so hi five for that too mirage highly recomended in all aspects !! see you soon and thank you !

Old school diners which in the 80s and 90s were everywhere have become a dying breed in nyc as more and more close up shop so Ive been looking for a decent diner burger. A basic no frills big cheeseburger with all the usual fixins. Mirage makes a solid burger. I get mine with sauteed mushrooms and swiss. Cooked exactly as i request its a very satisfying burger and comes with good,crispy fries,a couple of onion rings,a pickle and cole slaw. I have also tried that Brooklyn diner fave that you probably couldnt get anywhere else the Chinese Roast Pork sandwich. Roast pork on garlic bread with Chinese mustard and duck sauce. The pork was flavorful if a bit dry. Recently also had the Turkey dinner and for the price (22.95) you got plenty of carved turkey,stuffing,gravy, potato side,veggie side,salad,choice of soup,2 onion rolls and a handful of breadsticks. I kept pulling more out of the bag but....they forgot the cranberry! How can i eat turkey without cranberry??? Well I mean i did and it was good but it couldve been great! The Linzer tart is huge and the Blueberry crumb cake was also really good. This is my new diner go to.

Pretty good food I've explored more items on the menu. The chicken sandwiches are great. We love those. The pasta dishes are also very nice. Solid place that has really gotten better with time

The staffs are friendly. Ordered chicken parm on hero to go. It came with pickle and coleslaw. The chick parm sandwich was good but it didn't come with fries. Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Ambience: 3/5

The Mirage Diner has been around many years. I've passed it for many years and never stopped! We decided to come for dinner because my husband's aunt orders from here and always says how good everything is and she said they have a great lime Ricky. Well they do and the food was excellent! The diner is spotless too. Our waiter came over and introduced himself, which I haven't seen in a while. My husband got his usual pizza burger deluxe. It was done perfectly medium, juicy and delicious! The fries were good not greasy at all. There were two good sized onion rings and your tomato which looked nice not mealy and lettuce. Now I've been dying for pastrami for weeks but too darn cheap to go get one. The Mirage has pastrami and corned beef, also brisket which I'll try next time. I took a shot and got the open faced pastrami sandwich. I'm thinking ugh you idiot...IT WAS DELICIOUS! Just as good as any kosher deli if not better. It smelled heavenly and it had just enough fat to keep it from being dry and not where you have to constantly cut fat off. I found out they won an award for their pastrami! The hot open faced sandwiches comes with soup or salad, I opted for salad which was fresh and crisp, potato of choice and a veg. We will be going back and I suggest you all do too! Definitely get a pastrami sandwich!

Mediocre food; I did not order anything complicated. I ordered the French Toast breakfast special and it is largely a disappointment. After getting it wrong the first time (they gave me scrambled eggs when I asked for over medium), I gave it a go. Two hefty pieces of Challah bread which have a weird, oily taste to them, very bland eggs, and a particularly salty piece of ham. For $19, it is too expensive to justify the Sunday morning breakfast indulgence. I like going out for breakfast on the weekends, and this one is not to be remembered. I also tried their chocolate chip cookie and it is also a disappointment, even though I ate it, largely because I was just too hungry to leave it alone. The sketchy characters I saw when I walked in did not help my cause. There are other options that are better than this one. Go find them.

First time I went there it was one of the best diners I have been to. Service and food were spectacular. However, when I returned with my family the second time the service had several hiccups and the food could have been better for sure. Not sure which time was a better representation but I feel 3/5 stars is accurate for this diner.

so I ordered my dinner for my family from seamless , long story short the driver said delivery is here I went out no food. I called Mirage and before anything else they apologized and began making my food again . I called seamless they were nice and understood the problem. Mirage has amazing customer service I have been eating their food forever and before I knew it the food was at my door. thank you Pete !!! you guys are amazing best burgers ever!! ! forever a costumer at mirage Diner !! My friend was racially discriminated against at Mirage Diner, 717 Kings Highway, Brooklyn, NY 11223. On Saturday 20 April, 2024 at approximately 9am, I visited the Mirage Diner for breakfast with a friend. We are both black. The maitre d, an older white male, perhaps in his 50s-60s, seated me first because my friend went to move his vehicle to an open space in the Diner's carpark. Upon his return, my friend assisted an older gentleman who was also white, through the first door to access the Diner. The gentleman's son or caretaker who is also white, in turn thanked my friend for his earlier assistance and opened the second door to allow his father and my friend to enter the waiting area at the diner. The maitre d's station is directly in front the second door. As the three men gathered, my friend told the maitre d, that I was already seated inside. In response, the maitre d said to my friend, "You do not belong here!". Both gentlemen who came in with my friend, heard this exchange. I motioned to my friend to let him know where I was seated. As he entered the booth, the maitre d came by and to him "I''m sorry, I was joking." Before my friend could tell me what occurred, the maitre d came by again and said "I was joking, I did not mean what I said." At this point, I knew something happened. My friend then told me about the encounter. Coffee was served but we were not going to stay where we are not welcomed. My friend, left the diner and I went to the maitre d to pay for the coffee which was worth $4.68 and said to him, "my friend did not think what you said was funny." The maitre d then indicated that I did not need to pay for the coffee. I did not say anything further and left. As we exited the car park in the vehicle, the maitre d came outside and clasped his hands like he was praying as if to apologise again. There was no further interaction and we left. To the server, who brought us the coffee, Sir, please know that you did nothing wrong. We left quickly because we assessed that we were not safe or comfortable. To the maitre d, you showed your true self on Saturday morning. You missed the point of the earlier interaction between my friend and the two gentlemen when they entered the diner. Being human, courteous, exhibiting mutual respect comes naturally for some people. Clearly, you did not receive that memo. There is no reason why we will accept the disrespectful behaviour you exhibited. I will exercise my right not to patronise any establishment that endorses or exhibits racist attitudes. My friend and I subsequently went to Parkview Diner, 2939 Cropsey Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11214. We were warmly welcomed, looked after by the serving staff and had amazing food - the California omelette and the gyro platter along with the international coffees were so good.

Terrible. Hair in food, tasteless omelette. Toast and drinks come separate despite making it seem included in the menu. Worst part is half cash and some tip on the card was left. Lady at counter rudely asks how much tip do you want to leave (you should allow the customer to write it on the receipt not put them on the spot) I go on and in her language she talks secretly about the tip left to her colleague. Never going back again

Great food good service! I had veal with mushrooms and it was delicious! They treat you nicely! This place is a gem!

Monday, October 30, 2023 around 1 pm ish. Party of 2. Warmly greeted and taken to a booth toward the back. We had plenty of time to look over the menu and order. Open face roast beef sandwhich with broccoli ad Cream of Turkey soup. Mirage Salad with Salmon Coffee was hot and fresh. Unsweetened Iced Tea with lemon was also good. Water, Cole Slaw, and Pickles along with some onion bread and breadsticks while we waited for our meals. Food was good Staff and Service was amazing. I love the fact that they all worked together checking in on all the tables. Would return again.

A great diner to go to if you live in the Coney Island/Sheepshead Bay/Gravesend areas. Service - Quite good, better than what I expected from a diner. I've only come here after dinner rush hours, close to closing and the service was still good. Waiters and busboys are attentive and helpful and quick to assist you. Food - It is decent here, for what you would expect from diner-quality food at least. I ordered the roma panini during my last visit and it was just okay. The bread wasn't really grilled long enough and it was just lukewarm almost cold and not hot enough like I expected it to be. There wasn't enough dressing/sauce on the inside which made it taste a little dry apart from the peppers. When you order, they bring a complimentary bread basket, pickles, and coleslaw - which is very typical of diners. I will say that the coleslaw at Mirage is by far one of the best tasting coleslaws I've had out of all establishments I've been to. Normally, you don't look for that sort of thing when reviewing a diner or restaurant but I think it stands out when you're waiting for your food to come out. Cleanliness and Ambiance - Overall I didn't find anything unruly or out of order, it feels pretty warm and comfortable in here with the lighting, the seating, and the decor inside. It definitely has the diner feel inside and out. Price - I do think that post-pandemic, the prices have gotten pretty inflated but it's not like super-overpriced. It is a bit too expensive for what I believe diner food should cost but at least it's not bad quality for what you pay for. I paid $11 for the roma panini which isn't too unreasonable but definitely wouldn't consider going to a diner too often at the prices they charge for most of their menu. Parking - They have a small parking lot but parking has never been a concern when I typically come here at night. Overall, it's a good diner with no frills and you won't leave hungry with the portion sizes they offer.

What a gem! If you're looking for an old school Brooklyn diner that serves the community, this is it. The friendly environment, warm ambience, and delicious LARGE portions were exactly spot on. My family and I went for an early breakfast on Saturday morning. The waitstaff, owner/greeter, busboy/person were so welcoming and attentive. Coffee (caffeinated and decaf): hot and fresh. We had the Leo omelette (smoked salmon), corn beef hash and omelette, and one self-created with lots of veggies. It was impressive how many veggie options they had! And selecting egg whites wasn't an extra charge - that is unusual. They all came with coffee/tea, white or wheat toast pre-buttered (old school, yes), and home fries or hashed potatoes. We all got the hashed which were perfectly crispy and browned! Did I mention the large portions?? We also requested some mashed potatoes with gravy. It was not on the menu and 7:30 am! But they had it and it was perfect too. They had a private parking lot, and very convenient seating options: booths and tables that seat 4 (that could be moved together, I presume). Can't wait to try their lunch and dinner menu, and the dessert!!

I tried their food the first time last week -it was lunch ordered by the office . The best delicious Spanish omelet with fresh delicious tomatoes and zucchini, ideal balance of salt and spices, and very delicious home style fried potatoes . Highly recommend, will order again in the future

I've ordered from this establishment numerous times and I can honestly say this is the one time where I felt really let down and disappointed by them. They've always gotten my order right and close to perfection but this is just unforgiving. I asked for no carrots but I wanted extra chicken and extra noodles and less broth and I received a container of broth with little pieces of chicken a carrot or two and no noodles. What's the point in chicken noodle if there's no noodle

I went to the mirage diner a couple days ago and it was NOT good me and my bud got the same thing and while we waited we got our drinks. I got Dr Pepper he got Diet Coke my Dr Pepper was all water it was just carbonated water it was not good. Our server didn't ask us how we wanted our food so it was overcooked and very dry. I also got wings they were ok and that was really the only good part about my meal. After we got our food not once did our sever come back to see how our food was and we were the only people in the place. Do not recommend.

Went here with two friends after a Yelp event (museum of icecream event). The food was so so, but big portions. The waitress did get my order wrong and forgot to give me my dessert and charged me for my drink which should had been included in my meal. I didn't notice until after we left. I couldn't blame her entirely because one of my friend whom has lots of dietary requests probably confused the heck out of her. Requesting for soy free, dairy free, gluten free and then many other customer service requests. Either case, we closed out the diner. It was not 24 hrs and they did have a closing time. But they didn't really rush us out so I did appreciate that. Otherwise, nothing special about the place.

I got their roma panini (mozzarella, roasted peppers, tomatoes, and mixed greens) and prune juice. The prune juice was the only good tasting thing here. On the price side, it's questionable though. I expected it to be in a big prepackaged bottle since it was over $5. But it was basically in a grande sized cup. This isn't starbucks and the juice wasn't anything out of the ordinary so I definitely felt cheated there. The panini was terrible. I ordered from here wanting to try a panini from a new place that's not panini rustico. It seems that i'll have to stick to the latter. The panini here had three panini marks on top. The bread and mozzarella were tasty despite it not tasting like a panini. But, the red peppers and tomatoes took up majority of the panini. The tomatoes should not be there and both that and the red peppers should not be treated like a meat(overpacked). It made everything soggy. I took them out and just ate the panini as is.

Went with some friends for something quick to eat after a wake last night. I havent been to this diner probably in 15 years. Used to be a frequent customer when i lived in brooklyn. Ordered a cheddar bacon burger with fries. The bun was fresh and toasted and burger and cheese were perfect. The fries were good as well. Sorry no pics. If im back around this way i will come back for another meal.

Update to my previous reviews: Several months ago (April or May) I went back with a friend late at night because there was nothing else opened. I had a turkey sandwich and he had a veggie burger. Both (including sides) were very good! And he (never having been there before) had nothing but praise for the place and the food. So I'm giving it an extra star and holding off until I go back to see if this new-found quality is for real or just a flash in the pan.

I had placed my order and waited 3 hours. I had called several time to find out where my order is: I was told "there is alot of traffic" to give it time. I only live 9 blocks. I had called a second time, They NEVER checked my order, name, or phone #... I was then told they never received my order! Attitude was Nasty, Don't waste your time!

My go to is the Chicken Cesar Salad Wrap, comes with your choice of fries,...love the complimentary pickles and coleslaw, Service is always nice and helpful. Breakfast is also a go to, comes with a lot of food

Huge diner with parking and something for everyone - from old fashioned breakfast plates, triple decker sandwiches to burgers. A bit on the pricier side but well liked in the neighborhood - accommodating owner and friendly staff.

Was a bit skeptical about this diner- I'm used to only one diner because of my love for homefries (not every diner does home fries) however I ordered frenchfries, scrambled eggs with cheese, pork sausages and toast with a glass of orange juice. Let me just say everything tasted so good!! Would definitely come back again but this time I'll get the Turkey sausages instead. The pork sausages need a little bit more seasoning but nonetheless the food was so good! The atmosphere was amazing, friendly and helpful staff, we were able to listen to music of our choice at our table with our own jukebox (how cool is that?!) my family brought me here for my first time and it was lovely. Once again I LOVED my order! So delicious and the toast? Yummy

This 4/5 rating is only for what we ordered since the menu is so big. We got the pastrami sandwich which was very good! The pancakes and Belgian waffle was also pretty decent. Loved the sausages. Definitely would order from here again and try out the other items on the menu.

This is for food delivery. Bagel and lox came with dry burned bagels with the lox thrown across the open faced bagels and cream cheese PACKETS THROWN IN. They couldn't put cream cheese on a bagel!!!! Pancakes were cooked without toppings into them and came in separate plastic containers!!!! What a joke!!! Never ordering from here again.

Here's my homage to the Mirage. Sometimes the best things are right in front of you. It just takes some time to see them. I believe this is a quote from the amazing and wonderful Gladys Knight. I think this quote aptly applies to the Mirage Diner as when we were living close by, we would go there frequently and I never fully appreciated the food. What was I thinking? So tonight we ordered a cheeseburger deluxe and fish and chips for delivery and it's just as good as we remembered. The chips are sliced paper thin and just add a different dimension to the dish in a very positive way. The burger was cooked and seasoned to perfection and immensely enjoyed by my mom. She also noted that the quality of meat was excellent and she is a burger connoisseur. If I had one recommendation, it would be to provide a bit more coleslaw and tartar sauce, but that's on me for not adding it to the notes. All in all, the best darn diner around in my opinion and the menu is massive. Delivery was quick and polite. Will definitely be ordering or may pop in for dinner again.

Burger was yummy. Pecan pie A+ Wish all meals came with bread sticks and butter. Definitely recommend.

This review is for their delivery! I ordered the 2 eggs combo (comes with 2 eggs, toast, and your choice of potatoes) - I got the eggs scrambled and French fries ($7.5) Also ordered the pancakes. ($6.75) They have pretty cheap food even for delivery! I ordered off grubhub and they had a $5 off first order deal on there. My total came out to only $10 after the coupon and before tip!! Delivery times vary of course depending on how far you are and how busy they are but it was pretty fast for me and the delivery guy was super nice ! From what I could tell from our short interaction. The eggs combo was good- fries were kind of soggy unfortunately but it was delivered so kind of expected. Toast was a little too burnt. Overall good though! Pancakes were yum. Wish they provided more butter- only had enough for like half the pancakes ;( but they did give a LOTT of syrup. Only used 1 of the 3 containers they gave ! Overall , good experience and would order again!

Among the many diners in Brooklyn, yet still one of few remaining, this diner stands tall retaining its very old school flair and serving style. It may sound cliche or dated, but in terms if what my grandparents speak on as to whats precious in a diner can be found here. They start you off with a delicious mayo base coleslaw that is still fresh enough to have a bite in the veggies present. Alongside this is a bread basket, and two of my favorite pickles, sour and kirbys. Unfortunately for this trip, I wasnt as hungry as I usually am, getting a full meal to review - so heres the 1st if perhaps two reviews. I actually started at a milkshake. You're typical run of the mill, honestly nothing too special about it. This was followed up by a BLT.. or maybe I had that after it.. either way, good sandwich, but again, there wasnt any flair. Going again recently though and running into some of the desserts, the molten lava cake was actually amazing and thats coming from me(sweets arent my thing). All in all for quick eats in that part of BK, I am good to check out this spot again.

There's less diners these days because most of them closed. I usually go to diners for their sausages, I get the breakfast platter with eggs and home fries. Some places that serve some diner food uses the flat sausage patties or skinny link sausage which I don't really like so I always go to the diners if I feel like some sausages. I like the fact that they never really rush you to get out of there, my friends and I use to go and just have some food and chat, of course that's before covid. I do mostly take out now. They do have a parking lot, Staff is nice. If you like diner food, I recommend them!

Misleading pictures. I ordered a cheeseburger, got buns with cheese, beef and bacon. How come can you call it a cheeseburger? Also didn't get any fries

I go to the Mirage Diner regularly. I went a few days ago. There were two dead flies in my seltzer. I went right over to a person who is in charge and brought him over to my table. He patted me on the back and said that these things happen. He thought it was kind of funny. I most certainly don't. He wanted to know if I wanted another glass of seltzer. Of course not. Instead I got a glass of water of which I drank very little. I'm very disappointed in them.

Love this diner. Nice food especially the spinach pie. Wait staff and bussers r great. Only thing is that the coffee is very bitter and I could not drink it. Hoping they look into this. Thanks UPDATE...I changed it to four stars today on Friday.

Visiting there today Order salad ate a little bit and then realize it was something inside was a big bug almost threw up left the place will not recommend it

I stop here for a quick bite on my way to school every Sunday. Good soup and great bagels what more can I ask for!

I came here last night and I was shocked how empty it was at 6:45pm. Again, my scrabble meetup group met at 7pm. I ordered an order of fries and a fountain drink. The waitress was very nice; however, the woman I was playing with, told me she was the first one here, and we were the last to be served. I did enjoy my orders. In the end of the night, I asked for a plate of onion rings to go with the free refill of sprite. I upped my rating from 2 to 3 stars because my orders were piping hot.

This is a large diner and has been around for a very long time. There is a full bar as well. They definitely need to redecorate and modernize it a bit because nothings changed and it's an old and when they first built it. But actually that can be very charming and at times I like that kind of ambience. Many of the staff that work there have been there 10/15 years. I like there's not a big turnover. UPDATE: Came here for Breakfast. Good Grief what a Hot mess! NEVER AGAIN! First the hosted who sat us had a dirty shirt on and looked unkempt and sloppy. I Ordered an omelet with Pepper, onion & tomato and the guy brought it out with the Plate Dirty and finger prints on it and what looked like hard food crumbs. I ate around it. The Peppers were crunchy undercooked. Not happy because I could make better at home. The home fries were over cooked and tasted old. The 7 grain roast was good and the waiter never came back after giving me my plate. Bad Service! Bad food! It seems like the kitchen does not care and that actually made me Really nervous! I actually am shocked they have an A rating.

After all the years the Mirage Diner has opened even in the most brutal snow storms. They even had their parking lot cleared of the snow. Because they wanted to serve their community. We now have a chance to thank them by ordering for pick up or delivery through their web site www.miragediner.com. A friend and I went into their parking lot (that was empty). I called and ordered 2 Chicken Rice soups and 2 Burger Delux, one with cheese. And 1 coffee. The manager, Nathan made sure we had everything we needed; soup spoons, forks and condiments. We sat in my car, in their lot, to eat them. :'-(

This place used to be very good I have been here since I was a little girl and food was always good However during this Covid pandemic and actually even before This place started slipping up Before pandemic the food was good except for some occasions where my food came out very dry During the pandemic I went to pick up my order and the staff and manager were sitting smoking cigars When I brought my food home it stunk of cigars and my steak was very dry Placing my order I had a very rude person on the phone This man sounded as if he didn't even wanna be there I wish they would return their old cooks and good behavior

The staff is always friendly I feel like they are my family! I Have been a patron of the Mirage diner for years and years and years and many friends have come and go like Robert Feinstein the blind man that we used to always take for dinner there. He must've ordered the turkey club sandwich hold the club and the sandwich (He just wanted the cold cuts) 1000 times. And it was delicious every time.

Just awful. I wish I could give no stars. Spent close to $20 on a Caesar salad. I got maybe 5 croutons and not a single slither of Parmesan cheese. It was a bed of lettuce with some chicken slices and bottled dressing. Chicken was bland without seasoning as well. l had to add pinches of salt and pepper and squeeze a half lemon into it so I could eat it. Never again. Also, the delivery man called 3 times and I gave him instructions all times and when he finally showed up he still had an attitude.
