Great experience. The quality of the fish was incredible. We gave our server the reins and everything was amazing. Would definitely dine here again when in Wicker Park!

Fantastic food that's really a cut above. Everything that we ordered was incredibly flavorful and delicious. Only real downside is the price, but for what you are getting its quite worth it.

Would recommend the special salmon roll and the shrimp togarashi in particular, but all the sushi options were solid. My only gripes were that it wasn't a very good value/price ratio (especially with ACYE Sushi Taku nearby), and it took forever to get our food.

This is mine and my wife's go to spot for sushi. The ingredients they use are always super fresh. The service is on point. The main waiter, think his name is John, is always fun to talk to and very knowledgeable. Great recommendations every time. Would suggest a reservation. But in a pinch we've always been able to get a table within 45 minutes or so. Which in my opinion is very reasonable, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. If you're in the area definitely check them out.

Overpriced and racist treatment for food that is mediocre at best. Front of the house was a white man who treated us with contempt as soon as he heard our table speaking in Spanish and passed us on to an inattentive Spanish-speaking server. The food was the worst sushi I’ve had in Chicago. $24 for their special salmon roll that only tasted like horseradish. Their sashimi chef trio did not taste fresh -they seem to use soy and wasabi sauces to mask poor quality fish. You’re better off going anywhere else for better treatment, ambiance and food.

Good quality food and a simple menu. Items came out slowly and the server forgot what we ordered... Somehow my order of one bottle of sake was interpreted as three bottles??? Server gave us not so subtle lip service for free and rushed us out the door!!

The maki spicy tuna roll was okay, it didn’t seem to have mayo but did have green onion inside. The shishito peppers we spicy and more on the raw side lightly battered. I wish they came with a sauce but I used soy sauce which was good. They give you a lot of peppers so that was nice. The maki sweet potato roll was only good because I asked for eel sauce other than that is was tough to eat. The miso soup was great! I don’t think I would come here again as I did not enjoy the maki rolls with seaweed on the outside.

One of the best sushi places you can go and definitely the best in Chicago. It's expensive but well worth the cost. From friendly service to amazing fish this place truly satisfies the soul.

TINIEST Restaurant I have ever been in! Dark and super cramped, felt like we were dining with the table next to us. Was this a coat check room converted to a sushi bar? The food was ok, nothing special for the STUPIDLY high prices they charge. Portions were small. Servers seemed not interested in any customer service. Hostess just downright rude....Skip this spot! We won't go back.

Nestled in a corner of the Hilton Suites off the Magnificent Mile - is a cozy Japanese restaurant - very welcoming and inviting. It is fairly small but not what you would consider cramped - we were greeted by our server and a hearty greeting from the Itamae or sushi chef! The drink menu was pretty spectacular - plenty of quality sake's to choose from - I'd go with the cold sake - the mixed drinks are pretty epic - the Tokyo Mule is a must! I was happy with the sushi offerings - my dinner was Chef's Choice - my selection of sushi was excellent and offered some amazingly tasty blue fin tuna! If you desire a quiet evening with a loved one or friend you might want to consider Mirai - the menu is a la carte - soup, salad are extra - all in all, a great experience!!

I've gone to the Division location for over 20 years so I was quite surprised it closed but so happy to be able to get Kani Nigiri, and a spicy mono! These are my favorite sushi dishes anywhere I have ever been in the entire world! There's only a few seats in the new location but as long as I can get a chair I will continue to go! The service was a little slow considering how few tables there were but overall the vibe was really good and I would highly recommend if you are a true sushi lover.

I live within walking distance and have been wanting to try Mirai. The food was good but expensive and portions are small. Tiny dining room and service is dismissive. Would not go back.

Mirai is fantastic, this is a Gold coast classic spot, 20+ years in business. I love the low key vibe, quite intimate. It is small Enough that the staff gets to know you well after a few visits. The fish is very fresh and the sushi chef is a pro. The owner is generally working on the front end and provides great customer service. I am a regular and intend to stay one!

What's with all the good reviews? I'm not sure if I'd even consider this place a restaurant. My friend and I should have known better when we were rudely told by the person at the front door that if we were to eat at this restaurant, we would only have strictly one hour to finish our meal. We asked them why and they said it was because there was a big reservation an hour from the time we entered the restaurant. Since there was only two of us, my friend and I, without asking, the person led us to the sushi bar. We saw there was an empty table which we would have preferred to sit at, but the person aggressively told us that we needed to sit at the bar. Since we were hungry and just needed something to eat, we figured it wasn't worth arguing. Therefore, we decided to go ahead and give this place a try despite the one hour time limit. Let me start off by saying this has got to be one of the smallest restaurants I have ever dined in - it felt super cramped and the place did not seem very clean. I would not recommend dining here with a big group (e.g. 5+ people). Prices are absurdly high. I get it - it's Downtown Chicago and this restaurant is in the Magnificent Mile. Also, with current times and inflation, I get it - stuff happens where prices may need to be higher. But this restaurant seems to be taking advantage of their location, scamming customers. How are they scamming? By giving some of the tiniest portions I have ever seen from a sushi restaurant. How is this restaurant able to charge $26 for a small portion of fried rice? While the fried rice itself was delicious I still left feeling hungry. Yikes. Even with a $6 miso soup that didn't seem to help. To make matters funnier, we ended up spending over an hour here because our food took longer than expected to come out. Awesome service if you ask me. Skip this place and look for a better sushi place in Downtown Chicago, that is, if you can find one...

We have enjoyed Mirai Sushi over the past 15 years. However, over the past 2 years, the service at Mirai on Meis Van Der Rohe Way has diminished and their prices have gone through the roof. Now the restaurant charges a non-refundable $20 fee for booking the reservation (which they say will be deducted from the bill but in our case it was not). My wife and I ate there last evening and enjoyed our meal of Chef's selection sashimi, the himachi appetizer, and a soft shell crab roll. We ordered martini cocktails for starters. One of the drinks spilled, so we ordered a third martini and shared the cocktail. When the bill came, we were charged the $17 charge for each cocktail as advertised on the menu and then an additional $15 was charged for "filling the cocktail glass up to the rim". I complained after the explanation and called this policy "horse s...t". The "owner" became outraged and told me to never come back again. She seemed very distraught and stressed out and her reaction was totally out of context to the complaint. In business, the old cliche "the customer is always right" seems to have been forgotten by this establishment. So sad.

I arrived here at 5pm and explained to the hostess/server that I'm dining alone this evening and immediately she led me to their sushi bar not even asking me where I would prefer to sit down. There was one small group hidden away in a corner enjoying private conversation and the restaurant was completely empty. She seemed concerned when I requested one tiny table meant for one. She said she needed to double check for Reservations and reserved tables. I get it! I hadn't made any reservations. I felt awkward as she made a point of telling me that during weekdays they aren't busy and seating isn't an issue. She said weekends they tend to get busy so I assured her I wouldn't take long to order and leave within the hour. She seemed concerned and said she didn't want me to be rushed but I only wanted maki and wasn't there for alcoholic beverages because I'm not a drinker. She let me pick the comfortable corner table and asked if I wanted bottled water or tap. I asked for tap because I knew bottled water would obviously be pricey. She seemed disappointed with my answer and I said I'm ready to order. I chose coca cola with Grenadine syrup, a side of white rice one order of asparagus maki and one salmon maki. She asked if I'd like any beverages besides my coke and I declined. I said I'd probably order more maki later so she left the menu on my table. It didn't take long before my maki came out. Everything tasted extremely delicious but the portions were miniscule and underwhelming. I'm not used to paying such an exorbitant fee for extremely tiny portions. Thr asparagus maki was $8 and the salmon similarly priced high but the portion sizes were extremely small. Rice and miso soup is sold separately and not as a maki set here. Every item on the menu is a la carte. I was still hungry so against my better judgment I caved in and ordered a spicy octopus maki. I believe this time the owner/manager came to my table with the order and announced that my spicy tuna was ready. I was worried she gave me someone else's order so I told her I had ordered octopus but she stated she meant to say octopus. My bill was exorbitant...close to $50 not including the tip and the coke doesn't include a refill. My server did ask if I'd like another cola but since it's an additional $5 and consists of a small glass full of ice it didn't seem reasonable. After I finished paying my bill I overheard another customer ask for green tea. I had no idea it was an option here or I would have loved a cup. I asked the manager for a future date if green tea is complimentary and she gave me an angry look and asked me why would it be free?! I wasn't trying to be impolite i was simply inquiring about their policies. In Schaumburg all the authentic style Japanese restaurants served little cups of green tea to all their customers so naturally I grew accustomed to the tea being offered. She was so mean-spirited to me that I told her she was acting rude just from my inquiry. She called me rude and so I'm simply sharing my dining experience this evening that went sour. Small portions, extremely expensive food, everything is sold separately from rice to green tea to miso soup. I just wanted a nice self treat this evening this wasn't a good experience and no need to say more. I love dining alone but I hate when restaurants treat women dining solo like unwelcomed guests. I'm not a drinker-- I'm a foodie. I rate restaurants based on dining experiences such as the way I was treated, food quality and portions and presentation. I also review restaurants based on how they treat their customers. Mirai deserves two out of five stars based on the abrupt service.

Like the Beatles said in Sgt. Peppers "It's getting better all the time"! Our first Chicago experience with sushi was Okay; but we left hungry and $175 poorer. So, like riding a horse, you jump right back on and try another restaurant. Mirai Sushi was way better than are first experience, less money and we left sated. The atmosphere was quite, subdued and the sushi chefs don't really engage with you. The ruckus we're used to on Ventura Blvd (in L.A.) doesn't exist in Chicago. But, our dinner was excellent. We had: * Jalepeno Hamachi Crudup - Excellent * Spicy Tuna Maki - really delicious * Spicy Mono - Great * Orsen Fried Rice - Who woulda thunk I would be having the best fried rice in a Japanese restaurant. I wouldn't have thought so, but, it was! With two super dry Asai Beers, we were good; Everything was really great!!!!! So, I guess, I've gotta let go of my SoCal roots and just immerse myself in where I am at the time. I get it. Sushi wise, Chicago walks to a different drummer than I'm used to. I'm finding that out. I could easily make Mairi Sushi my go to "Sushi Spot"; And I most likely will. I've just got to try one more place, to see what's up. Im close. I'll keep you posted.

Not sure why this place is only 3.7 at time of review. Food was amazing. Service was great. While intimate, the ambiance was pleasing. Read a few of the one star reviews, all seem to have minor grievances. Memorable meal, we will be back!

This place is EXQUISITE!!! The sushi is so fresh and tender, it literally has your tastes buds going crazy with all the delicious flavors. HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you're in the Michigan district.

I was really excited to visit this restaurant since it was close to my hotel. Upon entering I was greeted and offered a seat immediately. I looked at the menu, and then took a call to which the waitress walked over lean into me and said, are you going to order. So I put my client on hold to rushingly order which I was not prepared for but felt like I had to considering the way she asked me if I was going to order. Got my food, the sushi was okay. I finish eating and sat there...the waitress came to the people to the left, asked them how their food was, if they wanted to order more, then came to the person on the right, walked him through the menu clicked up his plate when he was done, picked the plate from the couple to the left. Ignored me and all my empty plates. Went about the other tables, ignored me, with my empty plates and empty cup of water. Came back to the right, took his second plate, ignored me, cashed out the left, ignored me. 35 minutes later. She comes back to the guy on my right elbow because we are sitting that close to each other at the sushi bar, gets his plate and finally looks over at me to ask how my food and if I wanted something else. Yep, I did..about 35 minutes ago. Now, I'm just done. The restaurant is a tiny place so there are not a lot of tables in here. I am the only black person sitting in here and feeling completely ignored. I'm also not usually conscious of this fact but the service was so horrible that I couldn't help but notice it. I'll pass on this next month and pass on ever recommending them to anyone. I visit Chicago every month. They won't have to worry about me coming back.

Felt like having some omakase last-minute, so it's incredibly convenient that Mirai Sushi just so happened to be right down the street from my apartment! I went ahead and made a quick reservation on Tock (which required a $10 deposit that was refunded upon check-in) for around opening time, and was promptly seated at the sushi bar/counter. Though omakase is not a specific listing on the menu, you can still request it, and you will be offered two different options- one being a more traditional omakase serving (featuring various sashimi cuts and nigiri) or a more specialized omakase (featuring the special rolls specific to Mirai's menu). I opted for the traditional omakase (10 pieces) just to play it safe, but I wouldn't mind coming back to try the specialized omakase in the future. The traditional omakase I received consisted of: 1) tako (octopus slices, flavored with sea salt and lemon - so no soy was recommended), 2) thinly sliced hirame sashimi (fluke with ponzu and chili), 3) madai nigiri with lemon wedge (japanese snapper, soy recommended), 4) kanpachi nigri (japanese amberjack), 5) akami nigiri (lean bluefin tuna), 6) negi toro nigri (crushed fatty otoro with green onion), 7) ikura nigiri (salmon roe), 8) botan ebi nigiri (sweet shrimp), 9) shiro anago nigiri (sea water eel), and 10) unagi hand roll. The real standouts for me were the two eel pieces (anago and unagi), as well as the fried shrimp head that came with the ikura/botan ebi pieces. (The juiciness combined with the crispiness of the shrimp head was fantastic!) While the rest of the sashimi/nigiri was not bad in terms of freshness and/or flavor, the temperature of the fish was just too cold - it sometimes felt like it came right out of the freezer. The accompanying ginger was excellent, but no fresh wasabi was provided (costs extra on the menu). Unfortunately, they didn't have any uni available that night, so I also ordered an extra piece of otoro nigiri, but wasn't wowed like I usually am with otoro. I would still come back as the location is super convenient, and I'm sure their specialty sushi rolls probably taste pretty good - though for traditional omakase, I would still opt for some of the more renowned omakase restaurants in Chicago (Omakase Yume, for example).

The wicker park location is much better. John always takes care of me there, but this location feels much less welcoming.

It's a beautifully intimate spot with an elegant interior. The food came out quickly and the waifstaff very attentive. The portions in general are quite small. That being said, I found the seaweed salad to be delicious & refreshing. I loved how the salad incorporated 2 different types of seaweed; 1 of which was slightly saltier and more robust. The regular sushi rolls were slightly disappointing. The flavor was simply mediocre overall. Next time I will try the chefs rolls as they looked much more aesthetically impressive.

Quaint restaurant right by the Hilton. Great service. Fresh tasting food with very little wait once ordered. Loved the rice. Also had the chicken togarashi--very good. Going back for dinner again tonight.

This is a high end place so don't look for any California rolls or cream cheese stuff. The prices are on the high end but the food is delicious. Well made sushi. Good service. It's tiny so request as reservation. We had to wait a few minutes despite our reservation so they brought some complimentary edame. I always appreciate when a place goes out of its way to be accommodating. The spicy mono is great as is the Mirai sampler. The chicken toragashi is excellent. The rice is good. Full bar with a nice well-curated saki collection. Beautiful decor.

This is a little gem of a place with a beautifully warm ambiance and stylish seating. The sushi was absolutely fresh and beautifully presented. The Hirame Ponzu was delicate and melt in your mouth delicious and even the side dishes were yummy! Highly recommend the experience!!

Small, intimate location near the Hancock Tower and The Drake. Stopped in for a quick dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the non-typical sushi menu that was thankfully missing such pedestrian and boring fare like California rolls. I put together my own little omakase menu with the Nigiri Trio (salmon was fantastic), Sakana Carpacccio, Yuke Toro (which was my favorite), Hirame Ponzu and Ike Uni. All were artfully prepared and presented with wonderful, crisp flavors. Service was excellent and while the prices may not be cheap to some I thought they were in line for the style and quality of what I received.

The sushi was nice but way overpriced. I am not getting what makes them charging such a high price.

I don't know if the sushi chef was the main guy or if they pulled in a dishwasher to cut their fish last night, but it was clear that whoever cut the fish last night had no idea how to do it. I ordered the $89 sashimi plate, which is supposed to have 12 pieces. Sashimi is typically and most properly cut thicker than fish for nigiri. The fish served last night was so thin, and clearly not as it was supposed to be, because I got several extra pieces and half pieces - not because the chef was being generous, but rather because the slices were almost certainly for nigiri. Perhaps this would be ok if it was a $29 plate, but it was an $89 plate. If you are going to charge top dollar, you had better have a top preparation. The Blue fin tuna was the weirdest texture I have ever had. It was spongy, and not in a good way. Further, I ordered a piece of Uni, and it was horrible. Tiny pieces that tasted like old uni - not creamy, not sweet, not briny. When I mentioned the piece was terrible, the response was "It's from Hokkaido." I can't even count how much Hokkaido Uni I have had in my life, but again, this drek was worse than what you would expect at a supermarket take away. To their credit, they removed the Uni from the bill. Finally, I had one of their specialty rolls - the Summer Roll - a substantial dish. While it was generally good, it had a very weird texture, likely from the avocado, that kind of made the mouth feel like it was old slimy fish. I got past that and ate the roll, because its positives outweighed the weird mouthfeel, but they should really reconsider using components that together make one question if they are eating bad fish. If the meal of sashimi, a roll and tea had cost under $50, I probably would have given the place three stars. It cost $150. Unacceptable. They need to step it up, or stop trying to pass themselves off as a top line sushi joint.

No dine in, overpriced sushi with subpar ingredients and quality. I got the eel and it was ok but the raw fish sushi rolls tasted like food just for sustenance, not the type of taste you usually get from sushi this expensive. Would not visit again even if I had a sushi craving in Chicago.

I was super impressed by Mirai Sushi's Gold Coast location. Just around the corner from my home, it is nice to know that a quality sushi establishment is within arms reach. I absolutely love the design of the dining room here. Yes, it is quite small. However, I believe intimate would be a more appropriate descriptor of the space. It is somewhat dimly lit, and the ambience is quaint, trendy, chic. I was greeted by a warm hostess and sat at the bar along the preparation station as I was dining alone. As this was right at the beginning of dinner rush on a Friday evening, I was lucky to be one of the first persons sat at the bar (within 20 minutes others started filing in). Make a reservation on Opentable to secure your spot! I thought the service here was great. My waiter followed up with me the perfect amount of times throughout my meal, as did the hostess. Given the size of the restaurant, I was secretly demanding great customer service as it's less people to cater to. Mirai did not disappoint on that front. They also didn't disappoint on the cuisine. The spicy mono was incredibly delicious. The tuna tartare was fresh, sweet, and spicy and complimented the savory, spicy octopus. The fried rice was great, however, it would've been perfect if it had more bacon and/or bits of chicken added to the rice as well. My only small complaint overall is that the two sushi masters did not interact with the diners at the bar. This isn't mandatory nor is there a sanction that requires this. However, imagine how esteemed we would've felt had the chefs mingled with the guests that were directly in front of them, watching as they prepared all of the yummies. As other reviewers have mentioned, this is not your commercial style sushi restaurant. You have to really enjoy and know about sushi to appreciate this place for what it is.

We went here to celebrate a special occasion and had a pleasant, but not mind blowing experience. We had a bunch of nigiri sushi, rolls and fried rice. The service was good and the dishes were prepared promptly. The quality of the fish was much better than most of the other places we have been in the city, but being from Hawaii we have high standards for our sushi. The downside was the expensive prices, which resulted in us leaving not quite full. Overall, Mirai sushi was great quality, but probably overpriced for what you get.

I can't believe I've lived within a few blocks of this place for the past 5 years without trying it! Two things always put me off about the place: the 3 dollar signs and the exclusive-looking, curtained exterior (the latter of which I always took to mean "move along peasant!"). It's now my favorite sushi spot downtown! First thing you notice is the cozy size of this place - it's the size of a studio. On a busy night it can get pretty full, but the longest I've ever had to wait for a table was 5 mins. There is a small private room in one corner that can fit a small group. They have a full bar too, but it's hidden in the back somewhere due to lack of space. I'd recommend this place for a date or for catching up with a good friend. As for food: go with the "menu favorites" that have hearts next to them in the menu. Some standouts are the Bin Cho, Spicy Mono, Special Salmon, and the Mirai Combination. I've yet to try something that I didn't like!

Definitely recommend this restaurant for the hardcore sushi lovers. My husband loves raw fish and trying new sushi, so he naturally liked the restaurant and would've given it 5 stars. The presentation is beautiful and, according to my husband, the fish is top-notch and worth the price. However, I myself do not like raw fish (I went for him), so I was not as big of a fan since my options were limited and the portions are small. If you are the kind of person who likes Americanized cooked sushi rolls at a decent price, this place is NOT for you. But if you appreciate authentic sushi and are willing to pay for presentation and quality (vs quantity), this place is for you! The restaurant is very small so I would not recommend it for groups larger than 4-6.

I've only had takeout from Mirai, but it is hands down the best quality sushi I've had in Chicago.

I am a chef and rarely write reviews. If you truly know sushi; this place will blow your mind. This is the best sushi I ever had. If you are a California roll, cream cheese, jalapeño roll type of person; this is not for you. Julio runs the front of the house. He is passionate and knowledgeable. My advice to you is to let him guide you through the menu and follow his recommendations. The phenomenal chefs will do the rest! Get ready for a very special epicurean experience!

I apologize for saying this (its just very true), but I don't write many reviews. I only write when I feel something truly needs to be said. I ordered carry out over the weekend. A spicy mono roll and a mirai sushi combo. 65 dollars total which if the sushi quality would have been amazing, I wouldn't say a thing about the price which could be perceived as high given it's 1 roll plus 6 very small pieces of sushi. Anyway, I got the food home and the spicy mono roll wasn't edible. I have had it so many times over the years at their prior locations (mirai wicker park and japonais). I called immediately before I even tried the sushi pieces to let them know that something was very off with the roll. The same woman who took my order was very apologetic and immediately offered to refund me 22 dollars which was the cost of the roll. Great. It didn't seem like a big deal as I was happy because I didn't want to have to head back to the restaurant and they knew that the food wasn't edible. In the garbage it went... I was hungry so I ate the 6 sushi pieces. I can say that the quality that I have been used to just wasn't there. It was average at best. I will give credit where credit is due and say that the chutoro piece was amazing. The otoro was very very fishy and not very soft. The other 4 were forgettable. Fast forward, an hour or so passes by and I get a call from the same woman who took my order. She told me that "they were not going to give me the 22 dollar refund" and that "she was only an employee who had no authority to do that". WHAT???? She then tells me that all I can do is email the owner. I, of course, asked if I could speak to a manager to which she responded "there is no manager here and I can tell them to call, but I can't control if they will call you back, and they probably won't" WHAT AGAIN? I basically told her that I would like a call back from a manager or the owner and was reluctant to email someone. Nobody called me back. I did send a email which of course had zero response. I did let the owner know in the email that I would be contesting the charge. I'm also writing because when I called to dispute the 22 dollars of this bill, I was told by the CC company that since the food wasn't "returned", that they would not be able to get a refund from the restaurant. This makes NO sense as MIRAI sushi told me to throw it out and that they would give me a refund. I guess the owner of Mirai must be aware of this policy. Last, even if I would have walked it back to "return it", they would have not been able to take it from me due to COVID. Just saying. Bottom line, COVID or no COVID, what restaurant owner would treat a customer this way? It's not like I called and said i didn't like my food. I had food that was inedible, could have even made me sick, and was willing to accept a refund for that roll only. Even though the rest of my order was NOT great, I wasn't contesting that. Good work ruining a long standing, happy customer over 22 bucks especially given that you served inedible food. It happens to all of us sometimes, but it's how you handle it that truly matters.

Looked up the closest sushi place with good rating and was very pleased with the food, the service and the ambience. Highly recommend! PS: Daniel is the best!

Terrific sushi. In the middle of Chicago in the middle of the Midwest, that's awesome. Akami, kanpachi, and unagi were outstanding. Madai and Uni were very good. Salmon was lame. Miso soup was as good as it gets. Service was excellent, which isn't always the case in sushi restaurants.

Most sushi restaurants today focus on serving what the market demands and completely leave behind the tradition and art that this amazing cuisine was built on. Here's a place that knows exactly how to react when a customer says the words "Sushi Omakase". Chef immediately signaled to wait staff to remove the menu. Chef dedicated his full attention to just me for the duration of the meal. Only two questions from the chef and we were rolling: How many pieces? Any restrictions? Pace was perfect. Everything was traditional (Nothing was spicy, nothing was fried, nothing was over flavored). Delicate and beautiful meal served in a very traditional order covering pretty much all basis. As a self-proclaimed sushi connoisseur that has experienced amazing Sushi meals at many of the words best sushi spots (and many of Chicago's), I'm confident in saying this is Chicago's best.

I've been a regular at this hidden gem sushi spot for years. The quality of the seafood is excellent. Must try the spicy mono roll and special salmon roll, they are amazing!

Very, very bad restaurant!! I have been eating Sushi since the 70's and have spent a great deal of time in Japan, this place wouldn't last a week there. Small menu with half the items inexplicably not available, unfriendly and clueless staff and servers, they asked us to repeat the order three times and then screwed it up. Sake served in Champagne flutes.....overpriced entrees without the fancy cache of Momotaro or Naoki. Really felt ripped off and treated poorly. I am doing my utmost to tell everybody I know who eats Sushi on a regular basis to not go to Mirai. What a horrible experience. Avoid this place at all costs....

My boyfriend and I were in Chicago to celebrate our anniversary and since this place is was so close to our hotel and had good reviews on here, we decided to check it out. If I had to summarize my experience in one word: underwhelming. Perhaps, it was my fault because I had high expectations but I felt that Mirai did not fully deliver. We ordered a variety of things: a couple of specialty rolls, nigiri, chawan mushi, and maki rolls. Here's the breakdown of the food: 1) Chawan mushi was delicious, a very small portion for the price but it did have crab and shrimp in it, overall I did enjoy this dish. 2) Chef's special rolls (special salmon and special hirame): I would skip these. I felt that they were very overpriced, and that the tempura flavor overpowered the flavor of the raw fish, which I did not care for. 3) I think the nigiri trio was the highlight of this meal for me. The fatty tuna was decadent to the nth degree, the marinated salmon was super amazing (I got another order of it bc of how good it was), and the fresh salmon melted in my mouth. I do think it was a great deal for the price. 4) The maki rolls were good, though I felt they were slightly overpriced, since they were very small (most of them were 6 pieces with the nori on the outside). 5) I did enjoy the nigiri that I ordered (madai, zuke, aka anago) with the exception of the ikura. Not sure why they chose to dip and soak the rice into soy sauce and then place salty salmon roe on top but I felt it ruined the taste. I prefer when it is just sushi rice with a little bit of wasabi, wrapped in nori with ikura on top, that way the briny taste of the roe is highlighted. I did feel that the nigiri was overpriced as well. 6) I got a lychee martini and my boyfriend got a Sapporo. My martini was good but once again it was overpriced but I kind of expected that. Now a few words about the restaurant/service: 1) It's a very small place, the bathroom is not even in the restaurant but in the adjacent hotel. If you want to come here, make a reservation and don't expect a lot of leg or elbow room. 2) The service was good, but not exceptional. At one point they forgot a part of my order. There were 2 people who were helping the customers, so I do feel that they might have been overwhelmed since they place filled up quickly, we never had to wait too long for anything so I do appreciate their promptness. If I would come here again, I would do things a bit differently: skip the drinks; order a few maki rolls but not the specialty rolls; get the nigiri trio and other nigiri. Overall, I felt the experience was overpriced, and I have had better sushi, I could have spend my money better elsewhere.

The sushi is very good and the creative selections incredibly tasty. Love the very small atmosphere. It's intimate and the host and server really make you feel special.

This small yesterday attached to the Hilton is amazing. I had the crab roll and their butterflied shrimp. Each dish was delicious! I will definitely return again. The staff is friendly and it's sort of one of those places locals love and talk about, but off the general radar. If I had a complaint, it's their wine menu is small and quite pricey. I believe my glass of Chardonnay was $15.00. I feel they should have a better range of price points and not charge the cost of an entire bottle for a half glass of wine. However, I will return again and probably skip the wine!

I've always had an excellent experience here. The sushi at Mirai has changed my standards for sushi, so many of the rolls just melt in your mouth. The hostess makes the best recommendations. I discovered I love yellowtail ("hamachi") and I recommend it to everyone reading this review. The take out is just as good. I'm always looking forward to my next visit!

Best sushi ever! Order the tuna tuna salmon and thank me later. This is my new favorite sushi spot.

As good as it gets in Chicago for an impulsive night of omakase. Is it the freshest fish ever? No, but for the price and a neighborhood location, it's hard to beat Mirai. Can't wait to come back.

Meh. Really really over priced sushi of very small portions. Honestly cannot believe what they are charging for what they provide. The fish is fresh but I would never spend that kind of money on such small portions of sushi.

Tried them out. Tried several rolls and sashimi. We had one roll that was a huge success, and others that were blah. At the price leaned towards disappointed, but the food was good. Won't try again, but glad I did. Service was excellent, and the restroom was spotless.
