The Best Chinese Restaurants in and Around New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Shirley and Tang Lee, the original proprietors of Royal China in Metairie, brought Miss Shirley’s famed cuisine to the former home of Jung’s Golden Dragon II in late 2022, a happy new life for the space. Serving a new, smaller menu than at Royal China, Miss Shirley’s focuses on dim sum, as well as rich, brothy soups and a few Chinese-American staples. The recent refresh adds comforting blues, festive lights, and bigger tables, as dim sum is best enjoyed with a group." - Beth D’Addono

The Best Restaurants in New Orleans’s Garden District | Eater New Orleans

"Miss Shirley’s is what happens when the diminutive chef Shirley Lee can’t retire. Much loved from the many decades she spent in Metairie, she and her daughter collaborated on the city location. There’s almost always a wait so plan to arrive when the doors open or later, past the rush. Dim sum is a specialty and the crabmeat udon noodles are divine. Be warned: The acoustics are ear-splitting." - Beth D’Addono

Traveling to New Orleans, I never expected to eat Chinese food, but we were encouraged to visit by the owner of our B&B. Miss Shirley's was the BEST Chinese food we have ever had, and will be a repeat experience the next time we are in town. Our server was knowledgeable and happy to offer suggestions for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike, and Miss Shirley herself stopped by our table to make sure we were enjoying our dinner. Every single thing we tried was phenomenal - dumplings, salt and pepper tofu, Singapore noodles, and several other dishes. Even the egg rolls were a notch above all other egg rolls in my life. Several draft beers were available (in addition to wine and cocktails) and were a nice compliment to the food.

Miss Shirley’s Located in the same spot as the old Golden Dragon, this place has been completely reimagined. The vibe is more polished, cozy yet modern—perfect for a casual date night, business lunch, or upscale dinner with friends. The food? Absolutely delicious. Every dish we tried tasted fresh, well-balanced, and thoughtfully prepared. It’s not your typical takeout spot—this is Chinese cuisine with a refined twist. The flavors are bold but clean, and you can tell the ingredients are top-notch. What really sets Miss Shirley’s apart is the impressive selection of wine, beer, and liqueur. The beverage list rivals some of the trendiest restaurants uptown, making it a great place to pair your dumplings or duck with a curated drink. Prices are a bit higher than a standard Chinese restaurant, but it’s clear you’re paying for quality and ambiance. It’s more of a business casual or special occasion spot rather than a quick bite—but totally worth it. Highly recommend everyone check it out for themselves. Whether you're a longtime fan of Chinese food or just exploring new dining spots, Miss Shirley’s is a fresh, flavorful experience you won’t want to miss.

I’ve been here more times than I can count and I’ve NEVER had a bad experience. There’s almost always a wait so I usually sit at the bar. They always serve complimentary dumplings as like an amuse-bouche. They have seasonal cocktails in addition to the regular menu. My favorites include the yuzu collins and the vesper. My favorite menu items are the beef short ribs, the crab dumplings, the EGG ROLLS!, and the crab udon noodles. They always have specials as well which never disappoint. They bring complimentary beignets at the end of the meal with your fortune cookie. The food is hot, fresh, fast, and homey. Always feels like a home cooked meal. And it’s not uncommon for Ms Shirley to stop by your table or clear your plates. The vibes, the food, the service…never disappoint. Easily one of my favorite places.

Been wanting to come here for a while and finally was able to make it. There was a bit of a wait but is to be expected on a Saturday night. We were seated and immediately provided with complimentary pork dumplings which were very good. I Ordered the Orange Ginger Chicken and Combination fried rice. We also had the Tong Chow chicken. Our food didnt all come out at the same time, but everything was hot and fresh when it did arrive. The rice had peas and bran sprouts which was a very welcome surprise. The atmosphere was a bit loud but its not a very big place and they were very busy. The server was attentive and kept my tea glass full. A++ for that. We were full so we didnt get desert, but were once again treated with complimentary beignets fresh from the fryer.... a very nice touch. 💯 We will be back real soon to try some more of the menu...

Went here on June 13, 2025 at noon-ish, food was great! I sat at the bar, and the guy holding down the bar gave me a complimentary dumpling. I got the pork lo mein and a special appetizer they had, the watermelon and pork belly. Would definitely come here again to try their udon dishes! As an extra note, I along with two others were sitting at the bar and a stranger who sat further down finished paying for his meal...and also covered everyone else who was at the bar at that time. He left before our server told us what happened. Too that kind stranger, thank you. I wish I got to thank you in person.

This place is so amazing! The owner and staff are so wonderful! We had Erisa as our server and she was so quick and efficient and friendly! The owner is so personable and even gave us complimentary fried dumplings while we were waiting outside. Once we got in the food was impeccable, fresh and hot. The eggs rolls and pork dumplings are amazing! The food runner Valeska can’t forget my girl made us feel at home and sparked a conversation with us. We will be back and visit Erisa, Her mom, Miss Shirley and Valeska! We love yall!

Google
Funky little place with very tightly packed tables and loud music, disco at the time we were here. The food is relative and the prices are not bad but definitely not cheap but the portions are good. If you don't mind the little noise and congestion the food will make up for it.

I went for dinner and had a lovely time. The food was delicious and the spice so on point. I recommend this place big time. I had the tofu with black bean sauce and the curry noodles. 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Yelp
One of my favorite spots back home. Excellent service, amazing food, great vibes. 10/10. Dumplings are amazing, great Lo-Mein, INCREDIBLE Sesame chicken, just a great place to be. Staff is excellent and Miss Shirley is there serving and bringing her signature warmth to the establishment.

Yelp
A very popular Chinese Food restaurant in the Garden District, we found it to be all that was described. We did have a short wait for a table, but the service is prompt and facilitates rapid turnaround, without giving a rushed feeling. We ordered from both the entree and Dim Sum selections. Everything was excellent! They do a robust business, both in store and take out. Miss Shirley is a vibrant presence and highly regarded by her guests. She makes sure to visit each table during your meal. This is an excellent choice for Chinese cuisine when in NOLA.

Yelp
Great food and service We had chicken fried rice, veggie egg rolls, Orange chicken Lo mein Food was really good and freshly prepared

Yelp
Came here with a friend for a late lunch and we tried the beef chow fun, sesame chicken, hot and sour soup, and soup dumplings. The hostess was friendly and our server was attentive and kind! The best items were the sesame chicken and hot and sour soup. I wouldn't recommend the chow fun and the Xiao long bao had a thicker skin than I'm used to. If this were in NY or CA it might be closer to 2 stars, but Ik authentic asian food isn't very common in LA so this could help satisfy a craving!

Yelp
Parked on a neighborhood street that wasn't too far. Was seated right away. Friendly staff and very modern menu. Loved the beautiful fish tank upon entering. We came for the dim sum and loved how they offered non-traditional menu items. Especially since I like to try new things. I really enjoyed the bbq ribs the most. Place was cozy but just enough space to handle walk-in's like ourselves. Overall the food was good, just a tad pricey.

Yelp
Was here visiting Nola and really needed my asian food fix. I am from California where asian food is extremely accessible and very authentic. Decided to make our way to the garden district. We were greeted and seated right away and everyone was so friendly! It has such a cute little asian vibe on the inside. A huge plus for me was HOT MUSTARD on the table. We ordered: Crab sui mai 8/10 Shrimp Har gow 10/10 beef ribs 10/10 gai lan 8/10 hot and sour soup 8/10 salt and pepper chicken 9.5/10 chow fun 8/10 I will say that everything we had was SO TASTY. Everything tasted great. I only docked a star because the chow fun noodles were a little too chewy, and i felt that the flavors weren't as "authentic" as I have had at other dimsum places I have had in california. But i would honestly come back here :) 4.5/5 :)

Yelp
The culinary offerings are exceptional; every dish sampled has proven to be delectable, with the dim sum being particularly outstanding. We highly recommend experiencing this establishment, as the quality of the cuisine is truly remarkable.

Yelp
The food was really good, especially the shrimp fried rice. I also had the popular chicken dish. We went in the first Saturday on February about 12ish. The hostesses were AMAZING. While our waitress was okay, she was differently overwhelmed and it just made the experience not so pleasant. Maybe get your order to go. The inside is nice and the bathrooms were surprisingly really clean to say the restaurant was crowded.
google avatar

Yelp
Very homey with delicious food! The service is pretty good and the food comes out quick. All of the dumplings are so good! There's a round of complementary chicken dumplings and beignets which are so good. The short ribs are flavorful and the fried rice hits every time!

Yelp
Now this place has been recommended for quite a while, but every time I'm in New Orleans im wanting Cajun food. I finally had a want some Chinese and this place did NOT disappoint. We stopped in for lunch and man were the portions a perfect size. Mama Shirley comes by and checks on all the tables to make sure everyone is having a great meal. When we left, we heard that she will come by and offer different dishes to everyone in the restaurant, so we will have to make sure we stay for dinner so we can get that experience. Amazing place and fantastic food!
google avatar

Yelp
The waits can be long, but totally worth it! I love the food and love freshness and taste of the dim sum.

Yelp
Miss Shirley's is such a delight every time I visit. It's cozy and very popular so it's always busy but the service is attentive and friendly. My friends and I ordered sooo much food because the menu has so many options and we wanted a taste of almost everything. We ordered the eggs rolls, shrimp fried rice, crab meat Shui Mai, shrimp dumplings, beef short ribs and sesame chicken. Everything was absolutely delicious and leftovers were great for lunch the next day. I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Well I'm not sure where to begin. We ordered hot and sour soup and steamed dumplings to begin our meal. The dumplings were the last thing delivered to the table. We received our entree's first. Kinda out of order. Our entrees were ok, nothing spectacular. In fact the shrimp were cold and the sesame chicken was tough. The service was ok, nothing great. And the place was packed with patrons so maybe it was just too busy. I might go back again, the hot and sour soup was Very good so I'd go back for that.
google avatar

Jake T.

Yelp
The food here is absolutely incredible. I had almost every variation of the shrimp dumplings as well as the soup dumplings, which were all delicious. The service is also great. I will be back.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Miss Shirley's on Magazine St! When I heard that they had soup dumplings, I knew I had to try it as soon as I could. I came on my own one afternoon and snagged a spot at the bar. It was still early when I got there, but it was very busy with people waiting outside when I left. The place itself isn't very big and the tables are fairly close together. But I liked the ambience of it. Miss Shirley's isn't just a restaurant it's an experience. As soon as you sit down they give you a sampling of one of their dumplings as well as a salad and a dipping tray with 3 different sauces. I ordered more dumplings on top of this, the Xiao Long bao (soup dumplings) and the shrimp snow pea leaf dumplings. Both were very good and super filling! The presentation of the soup dumplings was unique as each dumpling was placed on it's own little holder. There were more dumpling options which I will have to try next time. At the end they provided complimentary beignets which taste like Chinese donuts with powdered sugar. I will most definitely be back try more items off of their menu. Drinks: I only had water, but they had a full menu of drink options. Happy Hour: NA Service: Great service! Especially since I was sitting at the bar. Parking: Street Parking. This is right off of Magazine St so parking may have some challenges. But it's not paid parking. Reservations: They only take reservations for parties of 10 or more.

Yelp
I needed some good Chinese since my last outing in NOLA was a bit of a disappointment. Let me tell you, Miss Shirley's got it on lockdown. After shuttering her last restaurant after an astonishing 40 years in business, she's back Uptown on the famed Magazine Street and serving delicious dishes once again. My bartender/server, Tim, is amazing. The kitchen is fast and creating not just delectable food but it's pretty. A little bit noisy inside but once you begin eating, you will drown out the din of everyone around you and be in your own world. I can't wait to return and try everything on the menu. They have plenty of veggie options and offer many gluten free options as well.

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend went to Miss Shirley's for his birthday and what a special experience! The ambiance was super cool and relaxed. Our server Jonathan was super great despite it being Super Bowl busy & the food was super delicious with great portion sizes. We got shrimp dumplings, steamed soup dumplings and Singapore noodles (with complimentary dumplings & beignets!) Miss Shirley happened to be sitting next to us and she was super sweet! Took a couple pictures with him and wished him a happy birthday. We had a really great time. I cannot wait to go back!

Yelp
We visited Royal China frequently when we lived in New Orleans, so visiting Miss Shirley's new restaurant was a must when we were in town for a long weekend. We got there at 5 when they opened and the place was full in minutes. The space has been remodeled nicely with blue walls and gold accents. The vibe is classy Asian, and a large fish tank in the entry is reminiscent of Royal China. The cocktail menu was extensive and offered fun twists on classics. We ordered drinks and way too much food - soup, dumplings, chicken, pork belly, lo mein, and more. All of it was delicious and served with genuine hospitality. We had a great meal and will return when in town.

Yelp
Came a little after 5 on Saturday and were sitting right away. The staff was cheerful and attentive. We enjoyed the lagniappe appetizers. Everything was delicious and we saw Miss Shirley busing tables. We loved the neighborhood around the restaurant. Highly recommend Miss Shirleys.

Yelp
Came in simply due to the rain... but it was divine intervention!! This place is amazing!! "Mrs. Shirley" actually is there and provided new drying towels for us. On top of amazing service "THE FOOD!!!" Oh my goodness, the best!! Delicious, hot, fast, authentic, and delicious... Did I say delicious Stop reading and eat!! Please open up a place in Mississippi!!

Yelp
Came here for the first time on my birthday last month and it was perfect. The food was SO yummy. The service was great. They made me feel so special on my day, and even offered some beignets as a treat! Definitely recommend. (We went on a Thursday at around 11 am and it wasn't too packed!)

Yelp
Wow. Just wow. If you want THE BEST Chinese restaurant in the area, please come here. I have been to many in the past, Trey Yuen, China Rose, Five Happiness, none compare! We ordered just about everything on the menu, I wish I had more pics, but I ate it all too fast. The service was fantastic. The ambience is great. And I absolutely love that Miss. Shirley - as adorable as she is - stops and greets the customers as they dine. The pineapple rice in a pineapple was one of my favorite dishes. I am pretty sure we ordered one order of each of the dumplings for apps and there were none that I did not like. Parking is off street since it is Magazine. And the restaurant can handle fairly large groups. I am so happy to have a great Chinese Restaurant in the city. Thank you, Miss. Shirley!

Jakia N.

Yelp
Amazing!! The food was so good. Even though they were extremely busy the service was still good. I tried a little bit of everything. Everything I had was amazing. My favorites were the pork dumpling and the soup dumpling. It reminded me of the amazing food I had in China town in New York. Who knew I could get Chinese food that taste this good in New Orleans. The only thing that has kept me from going back is the wait to get seated. They always seem to be extremely busy. I hope that means they'll open a 2nd location soon.

Yelp
We like Miss Shirleys, Magazine St has so many little gems. It's hard to find decent Chinese Food outside of the big cities so manage your expectations. We had Shrimp Snow Pea Dumplings, Salt and Pepper Squid and Crispy Duck Wraps. All were delicious and filled us up. Miss Shirley is a delight and spends her time working the room making sure everyone is happy and they were. Did I mention I Love Dim Sum. The room s not too large and not too small and has a nice warm atmosphere.

Yelp
First time at Miss Shirley's in her uptown location. We never thought the one in Metairie was all that fantastic, but have heard people say this one was good. So we tried it. We also understand that there really is no excellent Chinese food in New Orleans, eg compared to other cities like New York, San Francisco, etc. Plus, we have so many other good types of food, including good Vietnamese and Indian and Thai other asian cuisines, so, a Chinese restaurant has a high bar to reach. And it didn't. It was quite average. First of all, I was struck at how few dishes are offered as vegetarian/with tofu. That's pretty unusual. We don't eat pork or shrimp, so our options are substantially limited compared to others. Secondly, the prices are really high. Another review said something like 'average Chinese food plus $10 a plate to cover their rent on magazine Street.' I think that's right. $50 for two dishes and no sides or appetizers - one of which was vegetarian moo shu with no protein, no tofu, no shrimp, etc.- it's really quite pricey even in these days of food inflation Food was tasty, but not fantastic. Nothing special and not so different from Other places in town. However, the major disappointment besides the price was the rice. We ordered our meal to takeout and picked it up. It included brown rice with the orange chicken. And when we got home and dished it out, we found that the rice was less than half cooked. It was still crunchy. So it needed to go in the microwave to try and soften it up, but that never works once it's already had its cooking interrupted. Will we go again? Maybe. I understand there's often a long wait, but we won't go and wait. Maybe if we go right when they open and we can be seated right away, maybe; or maybe if friends wanted to go and this was where they chose. But it doesn't offer any advantage compared to our other usual place where we've been going for over 20 years August Moon. And certainly the pricing is much more reasonable elsewhere. Too bad.
google avatar

Yelp
Possibly the best Chinese I've ever had!!!!! The soup dumplings were phenomenal. The egg rolls were the perfect size with a crispy exterior and v tasty filling. We'd prob pass ln the fun gow, but you HAVE to try the beef short ribs. We went on Valentine's Day, and it was popppping. The wait was absolutely worth it and we've been dying to go back!! We did get an assortment of other dumplings (no pics, sorry) and all were great. Definitely wanting to try a soup or noodle dish next tim

Yelp
This place has been here for so many years, but it never had a great reputation. It does seem to have one now. A lot of people go sometimes you have to wait in line to get in. I enjoyed it. Here's the problem I went for lunch had wonton soup and Kung pow chicken with rice and my bill was $36 And that's for lunch? So you were forewarned but if you love good Chinese food you really need to check it out.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was amazing. We only had a few dim sum items, but they were all delicious. The best eggrolls. Ever. Same for the soup dumplingsService was pretty good and I loved the laid back fun atmosphere. Highly recommend

Yelp
Wow wow wow. I saw this place driving into town and immediately knew I needed to try. I arrived 20 minutes after opening and I had to wait about 5 minutes for a table, so I knew I was in for a treat! As soon as we sat, we were offered complementary chicken dumplings which were delicious! We ended up ordering a full portion! Pork soup dumplings were 10/10. Soft, tender, and full of flavor! Also ordered Chicken Udon noodles which were also so flavorful. Ended the meal with complimentary cookies and paid for around $40. So simple yet delicious. Honestly one of the best meals I've had in a really long time. I will for sure be back!

Ngoc-Tuyet T.

Yelp
Let me start by saying: don't bring your Asian parents here. The food is mid at best -- definitely tailored more toward a Western (mostly white) audience than folks who actually grew up eating Chinese food. I brought my dad here for his birthday because he loves Chinese cuisine and I thought it would be a fun, new spot to try. Big mistake. From the moment we walked in and realized we were the only Asian family there, my parents started flaming me -- and honestly, I deserved it. There was only one waiter working the entire restaurant. He was doing his best (shoutout to him), but he was understandably swamped and didn't check on us much. The ambiance was chaotic and noisy -- the space is cute, but not relaxing or enjoyable. Overall, the experience felt more stressful than special. For the price and hype, I just don't think it's worth it. There are plenty of better, more authentic, and cheaper options in the area like August Moon or Nine Roses. I'm disappointed and a little embarrassed -- my family didn't have a great time, and I don't think I'll be back. Lesson learned: stick to the classics.
google avatar

Susan M.

Yelp
The food is ok but the ambiance left me wanting to get out of there even before finishing my dinner. We were a party of 4, arrived at 5:30 on a Wednesday and they were full. We waited 30 minutes for a table. Ok, no problem; it is popular. However, the noise level in this small restaurant is deafening. Ok. That also would have been understandable. We raised our voices so we could hear each other. This was topped off with music muffled by pounding bass levels that never stopped. It was as uncomfortable as an MRI. Too bad, Miss Shirley is a delight, the food is good. Maybe lunch time will be better. Bring your earplugs.

Thomas B.

Yelp
Have always enjoyed Miss Shirley's Soups are delicious, as are the entrees Plus our waitress was very nice.
google avatar

Eryn B.

Yelp
Service was quick even when full. Food was super fresh and always steaming hot. As someone with a gluten sensitivity, they had a lot of options including the delicious egg rolls. Portion sizes are large so I recommend sharing and they are on the pricey side but very filling. Also got a complementary wonton and beignets Resturant is a bit small and tight, so I recommend getting there early because there was a wait when we left. Would go again!
google avatar

Yelp
Outstanding Asian American fusion restaurant. One cannot beat fried rice in a hollowed out pineapple or the pork specials. However, the real attraction of this lovely place is Miss Shirley herself who make sure that everyone is welcomed and satisfied at the end of their dinner..

Yelp
We went to Miss Shirley's to celebrate my friend's birthday. The restaurant is one I'm not sure how I've missed after frequently Magazine St for so long. The service was amazing. Who doesn't love a server who gives recommendations? The decor inside wasn't anything to brag about. The business went from quiet to booming within a short period of time, but that's a good sign. The dim sum was good. We ordered the tuna titake, The soup dumplings were really good. The pork buns were good. We also had the Singapore noodles and the pork moo shu. Each entrée was ok but felt like something was missing. The mini beignets were good and the lychee sake was delicious. I'd give this restaurant another try to try other menu options.
google avatar

Alexandra E.

Yelp
We had a great experience here. The service was really good and we had some tasty food. It's a small spot but good size and we didn't have to wait on a Wednesday night at least. There's a good vibe all around. My faves were the steamed dragon dumplings, the beef short ribs, singapore noodles, and the shrimp toast. For drinks, definitely recommend the lychee sake and the specialty old fashioned from the cocktail menu. Only thing I didn't like was the hot and sour soup. Besides that we really enjoyed everything!

Yelp
Been coming to Miss Shirley's on a regular basis since she opened on Magazine. Our last visit was a huge disappointment. The service was perfunctory and the staff not welcoming (Shirley was not there). We ate at the bar, and the bartender, Charlie, acted like he was doing us a favor. We have always understood that the kitchen sends dishes out as ready, but we have never had the appetizer come out 15 minutes after the main course was delivered. Charlie basically told us "tough"-if you don't want it now, you can take it home in a doggie bag, but you are paying for it. There are many other dining options in NOLA. Signed, former regulars.

Yelp
At the end of my trip after eating all the creole food, I was craving some Asian food. So, off I went to this Chinese restaurant. I was pretty satisfied with the food I ordered. The dumplings were juicy and delicious. The atmosphere and service were great as well.

Yelp
I've been eating Miss Shirley's food for about 10 years. I was a regular at her last restaurant and would go weekly for the Dim Sum. So when she opened a restaurant on Magazine Street I was immediately sold. You can't find fresher Chinese food in New Orleans. Don't go in there hungry. You'll be too tempted to order most of the menu.

Jeff L.

Yelp
Phenomenal experience! Gabrielle served awesome drinks and guided us through the menu. Everything we ate was great. Perfect for a date night or family dinner out. Miss Shirley gave us a hug on our way out. We'll definitely be back the next time we're visiting NOLA.
google avatar

Gail C.

Yelp
Fabulous is an understatement. Great service and very fresh food with great Chinese mustard makes my heart sing. Everything I had, from the Oolong tea, fresh egg rolls, beef ribs and sautéed eggplant was simply great. If I lived here, I would be a regular.
google avatar

Immanuel L.

Yelp
Miss Shirley's was great. I loved that Miss Shirley comes out and greet her customers. Her God is amazing and delicious. We had a lot of the dishes from her menu so it's kind of hard to describe them all. But I just want to say I need to go with other people that eat everything. So you can have a wide selection of the dishes. The amicable is nice and oriental, dim lighting and family style sitting. I recommend and will be back.

Yelp
Everything about this experience was wonderful. Street parking only, so plan ahead especially if you're going on a busy Saturday. Don't remember if they take reservations, but we waited about 30 minutes as walk-ins. Not bad. The hostess was really nice. The place is snug, so be prepared to make friends with the table bext to you. There are larger tables for larger parties. Our server was great, made great recommendations. We even got to see Miss Shirley as she stopped and talked with us like we were friends from way back. We were treated to a sampling of chicken dumplings while we overlooked the menu (so good, they made my husband's eyes roll back lol). We ordered the Fried beef dumplings to start. Both were prepared perfectly, nice crisp, not too hard. My husband said the chicken was better. We then tried the infamous beef short ribs. So tender they melt in your mouth, and full of flavor. We added some egg rolls, which were fried lightly and stuffed, not too greasy. Per our server, we tried the special pineapple fried rice. It was delicious. Hit, freshly prepared. The pineapple bits were a sweet treat but didn't take over the rice. It was filled with shrimp and chicken as well. We then tried a seasonal/special item a watermelon pork belly. This dish was so refreshing to the palette. The pork was tender with a bold flavor. Paired with the sweet watermelon, this was the hit of the evening. We were stuffed...and the two of us shared every dish. Our drink was also good, not to strong but we only needed one lol. While we were finishing our drinks, we were treated again to the beignets. Nice and hot! We were full but made a little room for this New Orleans staple. Overall, GREAT VISIT!! We absolutely will be back. And we're bringing family!!

Yelp
Very good food and service. Busy at lunch but had no trouble getting seated. The hot and sour soup was great as was the chicken and vegetables and chicken lo mein. The crab Rangoons were hot and crispy but could use more crab. Egg rolls were great but not as crispy as they should be. Big portions and yummy!

Yelp
Miss Shirley's 3009 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70115 I heard everyone mentioned this place is worth visiting; so I had to find out myself if words on the street are true. In my own personal opinion, it is good for what it is, if you're ever visiting/touring magazine street in New Orleans. I would definitely recommend the Beef Dumpling, Shrimp Toast and Crispy Duck Wraps. 1. Beef Dumplings 8 Fried beef dumpling with house made chili sauce 2. Egg Drop Soup 6 Eggs, pepper, green onions (GFA) 3. Hot and Sour Soup 15 Pork, tofu, bamboo shoots, egg, green onions (GFA) 4. Pork Dumplings 8 Pan-fried pork dumplings 5. Shrimp Toast 8 Fried bread filled with shrimp 6. Steamed Dragon Dumplings 12 Steamed pork soup dumplings 7. Crispy Duck Wraps 20 Fried duck breast with sweet hoisin sauce, cilantro, scallions, Chinese pancakes 8. Lo Mein Noodles 20 Choice of shrimp, pork, chicken, beef, or combination stir-fried with cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, baby corn, red bell peppers #Tonylameats #missshirleyschineserestaurant #chinesefood #dimsum #neworleansla #magazinestreet

Yelp
Miss Shirley's Chinese Restaurant, Magazine Street. I should know better than to come to New Orleans, Food Capitol of the South, and go out to dinner at a Chinese Restaurant. Yelp, it is one of the few times you steered me wrong. Our party of seven met at the restaurant at 5:00 pm, when Miss Shirley's opens, to find people already waiting and several names already on the list for tables. This bodes well, popularity often means an excellent dining experience. And this restaurant was Packed, every seat at the bar was taken, and it was SRO outside, waiting for a table. I would describe the crowd as cheerfully noisy, bordering on boisterous. The service was excellent (Thank You, Maggie W., Great Job!). Unfortunately, the food we received was middling to mediocre. Here's an example: the Moo Shu Pork ($21.00). The wraps were cemented together, you couldn't separate them without tearing holes. The dish was served with a minuscule amount of hoisin sauce. And the Moo Shu was an amalgamated mess, difficult to tell where the vegetables ended and the pork began. Miss Shirley's Chinese Restaurant, Three Stars.

Yelp
Here's the thing... we were so excited to try this place. We knew a new Chinese restaurant moved to this location, a restaurant that used to be in Metairie and that it was really popular there. Tonight we go... PACKED!! Totally get it, 7:30 on a Sat night, gonna happen. Well when I tell you it was loud.... IT WAS LOUD AF in there!!!! There's nothing to absorb sound. No foam under the tables or chairs or in the ceiling or walls. We had to YELL at each other across the table to hear each other. Was very uncomfortable. Honestly we won't be back because of this. Might order take out but it was kinda pricy for that. Now... for the good! The food was sooooo good. Very fresh!! Not heavy. Filling but not overwhelming, if that makes sense. We had good service and that's always a Good thing. Everyone seemed to be having fun... but us lol. Listen if you wanna go have good food and be in a loud place and also be loud... this is for you! But if you want a date night or just to be able to have a conversation without yelling... I would say order takeout.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. The food is great and Shirley is always there to say hello. Absolutely love all their dumplings. Wish you could make reservations cause the wait is long. But all you need to do is put your name in the list and go to the next door bar, have a drink while you wait.
