Mitch’s Fish Market And Sushi Bar - Review - Oahu - The Infatuation

"Mitch’s is a prerequisite when leaving or arriving in Honolulu—or both. It’s in a warehouse-looking location just a few blocks from the airport runways, and serves sushi with fresh seafood from around the world, like the usual ahi, hamachi, and salmon suspects, as well as specialties like engawa and kinmedai. It’s also famous for anything lobster—the Van Van that’s topped with mayo and broiled, or sashimi that comes with a miso soup made from lobster’s head. You may see locals roll in with flip-flops and a cooler of beer, but know you’re likely to spend just as much at this casual spot as any fancy sushi restaurant. The quality you’re getting is absolutely worth it, though." - Martha Cheng

This has to be the freshest sushi I have had on the island. Probably the freshest in all of USA. Only drawback was the miso soup was not served hot. We got there at 4pm so we had the best service since we were the only table. The Salmon Kama and salmon belly was really good. The best is our sushi platters. Thank you Mitch’s for an awesome food!

The freshest sushi and sashimi you can get in town. The quality is definitely worth the prices. Service is quick and friendly. Parking is very limited.

Google
May2025 Authentic and fresh sushi 🍣 and Japanese cuisine near the airport. The place has a fishmonger feel with a relaxed Japanese pub style. Food servings are ample and the variety offered shows that the ingredients are fresh. Service is standard and friendly Ideal for all types of diners but more for small groups

We visited Mitch’s on the recommendation of friends and, to be honest, weren’t really sure what to expect. Situated amongst warehouses just beyond the bounds of Honolulu Airport, they certainly offered first impressions very different to other sushi places we’ve been to on Oahu, but the welcome was warm and we were soon tucking into our toriaezu beers - an excellent Lanikai IPA. Mitch’s is BYOB so you can choose what to drink with your sushi. After beers we enjoyed a couple of wonderful sakes, selected with the help of the knowledgeable staff at The Sake Shop in Kaka’ako. Anyway, I digress. The raw oysters had unfortunately sold out but this was more than compensated for by an excellent selection of sashimi. We also ordered a large variety of nigiri, highlights including the uni, toro & hamachi. The atmosphere was friendly, service speedy and friendly and the fish just delicious. Okay, it’s a bit of a journey (~25 mins from Waikīkī) but it’s well, well worth the trip. We’ve already been back.

Great food 👍 Definitely come the first few hours they're open. Got there at around 7:15pm after work for a birthday dinner and a few things that we wanted to try were sold out. Favorites from what we ordered were the hamachi and chutoro sashimi, kinmedai sushi and tamago sushi. If you're seated near the room where they're washing dishes, it is a bit loud. Overall would come back to try the sold out items!

Google
Small fish market in what appeared to be the warehouse district. Initially appeared to be a hole in the wall but had some of the best sushi we've ever had. Service was friendly and fast. If you like sushi or sashimi, make sure to stop here during your island visit.

Google
So good! There were menu items you can’t get at most places like Monkfish liver, Tako Wasabi and Maguro Kama. Staff are so friendly and considerate. Loved every bite.

We stayed at the Airport Honolulu Hotel for one night and wanted something in walking distance. This place popped up on Google Maps, and it was amazing. Fantastic sushi- get the maguro tuna. California roll is made with real crab, the unagi is delicious, and the spicy salmon hand roll was wonderful. From the outside, this place seems odd, but it's a true hole-in-the-wall and 1000% worth every penny.

Yelp
I had a reservation I made for a few weeks. Still appears like a warehouse on the outside with about 5 parking spots in front. Had a birthday lunch here and it was absolutely stunning inside. We passed the fish market display if you want to take home and prepare your own dishes. As we were seated, it's very neat and well lit like a studio. The tables and chairs have good spacing between them. Does not feel crowded or have a tight walk space as seen in my photos. One of our 3 servers was Chloe who checked on us! They were very kind and even made sure to keep my husband's tea cup filled. I highly recommend this unique and cool spot near the airport and glad it still is after my past 2 visits.

Yelp
First stop as we head out of the airport and on our way to Waikiki. We've been here once before and we vowed to make it a priority on our next trip. Mitch's is not far from the airport, hence it makes sense to stop on the way in or the way out. In a sort of warehouse district, which makes parking easier. Had a reservation for lunch when they opened on a weekday. Probably didn't need it but better safe than sorry. The fish here is of the highest quality, as if they just plucked it from the ocean. Some of it is straight from Japan. There are many options. You can't go wrong with any. Decor is minimalist, but Japanese in feeling. Service is efficient. Prices are on the higher side, but fair for the quality. I will continue to keep Mitch's on the top of my list and make it a priority on my way in or out of Honolulu International. It's BYOB, so if that's important - make sure to bring your own.

Yelp
Mitch's is a local favorite for sushi, and I'm glad we were able to check this place out while we were in the area. Definitely make reservations in advance so that you can partake in their omakase that is subject to change due to availability - you can opt for a small or a jumbo lobster van van, which I recommend in going for the latter. The omakase includes an app, sashimi, a grilled dish, sushi, and dessert - ours included: +bluefin otoro +chutoro +hotate +a grilled ora king salmon misyaki +hamachi +ikura +and mochi ice cream (or, miso soup) Everything tasted fresh, and the vibe of the place was laid-back and super casual; definitely a place where you can get quality sushi and not worry about the ambiance! Staff were friendly, and it was a tasty experience! +go for the omakase +friendly service +reservations highly recommended

Yelp
I do not know what happened to my original review but super irritated that it's gone. Bottom line I LOVE THIS PLACE! If you are in Oahu and you don't eat here it's a huge mistake on your part. I love the whole diners, drive in and dive vibe if this place! Service is always a 5 out of 5 star and love the fact you can bring whatever you want to drink here ok your own cooler or whatever. Food amazing fresh right out of ocean that day or just hours before! Trust me if you're on Oahu and don't eat here you missed out!!

Yelp
Excellent service, super fresh seafood. We had their omakase and a couple dozen raw oysters. Started off with the spicy salmon which was nice and silky. Then the sashimi plate came out. The otoro was buttery and delicious. The nigiri plate didn't disappoint. The raw New Zealand oysters came out super cold and was really sweet. The service was superb. Our server came to check on us and made sure our waters were filled.

Yelp
Walked from the airport during my layover and didn't regret it. There was no wait at 3pm on a Saturday. I ordered the ankimo and 12 piece sashimi combo for myself. Everything was very fresh and the sashimi pieces were thick which I liked. A simple but tasty meal. Prices are reasonable for raw fish IMO!

Yelp
The ambiance was very basic and the location a bit remote, but for this former New Yorker and five year Tokyo resident the sushi was among the highest quality in Honolulu. I'm quite finicky about sushi , but I was very pleased with the high quality and freshness of the fish and the friendly service. I hope to be a regular. The prices were not inexpensive, but more than fair. I've found that the few places in Honolulu that offer quality sushi are usually noticeably more expensive.
google avatar

Yelp
It's hard to beat Mitch's for quality sushi at a good price. Plus the BYOB saves a ton of money by avoiding the marked up restaurant prices for alcohol. Service is normally good because it's a smaller place so you can always flag down a server if you need anything. Love the ten piece chef choice sushi plus unagi hand rolls and sake nigiri. That's always my core order. This time I added on some oysters for the app. The atmosphere is nice and clean and I particularly like sitting by the fish tank to observe the fish.

Yelp
Husband wanted to try this "its pricey but good" spot after friends recommended it. We wanted a nice sushi hole in the wall that wasn't all the way in town. This is right by the airport in an industrial area that hides this beautiful hole in the wall. Its actually bigger inside than you would think and very pretty. The staff are very friendly and attentive. We ordered two chirashi bowls, toro, unagi and van van. The toro was melt in the mouth! The chirashi bowls were gorgeous and fresh. A lot of radish which was disappointing as the price was $30. I think Kuni's in Waikele is better. The unagi was okay. Then vanvan was a grilled seafood and cheese mess that was to die for! Would we go back? Probably not- the value doesn't match the price in comparison to other sushi restaurants. However if you are in the area, heading to the airport etc.. they get the food out fast and it is yummy so give it some try.

Yelp
Mitch's has been around for a long time and still popular even with so many newer sushi restaurant in town. The Obamas visit when there are on island. You can either order omakase or ala carte. Everything is fresh. I would recommend ordering the lobster sashimi. Sadly the past couple of times I went, it wasn't available.
google avatar

Yelp
The quality is simply to die for! Over a $200 platter but it's worth every penny. That is my monthly place to go and have lunch.

Yelp
Another wonderful experience at Mitch's Fish Market . I brought my sister here for her birthday dinner and it was really fresh like always. Service was friendly and efficient , the thing I like about Mitch's the sushi rice is way smaller than the fish . Some places you can see the rice over powering the fish . Support local

Yelp
Great place and very unassuming. Price is ok but I was still hungry. We each had the omakase which was priced ok but I think they should've served a little more.

Yelp
If you're here on O'ahu, you'd be remiss if you didn't explore the incredible sushi and seafood scene. And as far as top quality goes, Mitch's has earned its place among the very best; for 2 decades and counting, they've garnered a reputation for serving some of the freshest fish around. My parents have a deep love for sushi, and really just seafood in general, so I could think of no better place to bring them for a nice dinner. We felt like ordering the whole menu, which is expansive and offers a good number of both raw and grilled preparations. We did try to show some restraint and went with a few of our favorites: - Toro (bluefin tuna belly): We ordered this both raw and aburi (torched). As is characteristic of toro, this was well-marbled with a clean, rich flavor. Out of all the items we had, I thought this one most clearly and definitively showcased the quality of fish here; it certainly supported Mitch's' reputation as a purveyor of some of the freshest seafood on the island. - Misoyaki salmon: I'd been particularly interested in this one since Mitch's uses Ora King Salmon for it. Ora King is a variety of salmon carefully raised in New Zealand that is genetically distinct from all other salmon in the world. The most striking feature is the intense level of marbling, which has to do with both genetics and feed; it's the equivalent of wagyu, but for salmon instead of beef. The fillet was beautifully cooked, and really showcased the trademark unctuousness of Ora King. However, I did wish the miso flavor was bolder and more intense; that would have made it a home run. - Salmon belly: once again a fatty melt-in-your-mouth experience as expected with Ora King Salmon. The skin was nice and crispy. Perhaps this could have been salted a little harder to augment/embolden the flavor of the salmon itself, but enjoyable nonetheless. - Seafood Van Van: probably the best part of the meal. Not to be confused with the Lobster Van Van, it's salmon, shrimp, avocado, and white fish enveloped in a mayo-based sauce that's broiled to finish. Creamy and indulgent, with just the right amount of brininess against the smooth flavor and texture of the avocado at the base. - Grilled sardine: We probably could have gone without this one, if I'm being honest. As a sardine enthusiast, it wasn't the most flavorful one I've ever had, and the dark meat was especially bitter. Beyond the food, the vibe is pretty relaxed here; this is a great place to enjoy good food without worrying about being too prim and proper. Service is pleasant and informative as well. Overall picture: The quality and freshness of the fish here certainly lives up to the reputation. It's tough to beat top-notch seafood in a setting where you can feel comfortable letting your hair down a bit, so to speak. Worth your visit for sure!

Yelp
Freshest sushi in town! Small, quiet, and friendly service. Not fancy, but so delish. Love their lobster miso and all the sushi and sashimi. Also best hamachi kama too! Pricey but worth the splurge. They have green tea ice cream too. Parking is limited outside of the restaurant, but there is street parking which is usually available, although you may have to walk a block

Yelp
Came here with a party of 7, my friend made the reservation about a week in advance. The front is very unassuming, looks like a car repair place from the front and the kitchen is nearly at the front door as well. Do not let the humble entryway deter you, there is a lovely, simple dining area (two rooms) towards the back. We were sat in the one with the lovely fish tank. My partner and I ordered the omakase and really enjoyed the different cuts fish available. The waitress said we were the fastest diners for omakase she has met. Each dish was delicious and went by too quickly. We also chose the grilled salmon and ended the meal with miso soup and had the shrimp head in as well. All delicious. When we are in town again, we'll be sure to return. Other notes: This place is BYOB. The bathroom is through the back most door and to the left in a separate clean, small room.

Yelp
Small place and delicious food!! Super fresh fish. It's BYOB and they are great about putting the sake on ice for you and provide cute sake cups Highly recommend it but just know ambiance is very low key and casual
google avatar

Kacy O.

Yelp
Haven't been here since before the pandemic and things definitely changed. There's way more tables now and even another sushi bar in the back. Our food came out super fast and everything was delicious. The service was excellent and waitresses were so attentive and nice. They kept coming back to check on us and take our orders for more sushi. This sushi bar is BYOB so we brought our own beer and sake. They gave us a big bucket with ice to keep all our drinks cold. The ambiance is casual and good for families or groups. Not a fancy place by any means but the food quality is what's important in my opinion.
google avatar

Iris T.

Yelp
Always enjoy coming to Mitch's for casual sushi dinners. Easy to get a reservation. Enjoy the BYOB option as they provide glasses, ice and buckets. We stick to our favorites. Toro & lobster sashimi is always great. If you order the lobster sashimi, you get lobster miso soup at the end of your meal. We didn't order as much on this last visit as our waitress did not check I with us as often, but we did leave satisfied and stuffed.

Yelp
A restaurant with an unpretentious (perhaps working class) atmosphere in an industrial area near the airport -- with amazingly good sushi. I got the following: Miso soup 10-piece sushi - chef's choice Unagi Salmon skin roll That's an expensive lunch at $73.30 plus tip, but so worth it. The unagi was divine, just scrumptious. The 10-piece sushi was great, with everything done well (though I'd do without the omelet and would prefer something else). The miso soup was amazing with a whole shrimp (or crawfish?) in it -- great!. And the salmon skin roll was good and a good value to fill out the meal without adding much to the cost. The restaurant entrance has windows, other than that, it's all interior with wood paneling, fluorescent lights, old tables and chairs. When I was there for lunch, it was clear that everyone else was local - some working people in their trade uniforms, a few businessmen out for lunch. The restaurant is a short walk from the airport terminals (less than a mile), on sidewalks through the industrial area. Such good food, so near to the airport. It's not fancy, but it is fabulous!

Yelp
Haven't been here in awhile but it never ceases to amaze me. Everything you get here is bomb! Fresh seafood, tasty, melt in your mouth deliciousness! Small restaurant, hidden gem in the Nimitz area. Parking is scarce but there is some in the front, next door or on the street. Everyone is super friendly and attentive. They'll even give you suggestions and very knowledgeable in the menu. It is BYOB. Definitely a must try!
google avatar

Nicole N.

Yelp
My family had lunch here and Mitch's did not disappoint! The freshest fish & seafood in such a cozy environment. We got the 12 piece Sashimi Set, which had generously cut portions. The Salmon, Toro & Hotate were our favorites. Then came the beautiful mixed Nigiri and Rolls. The Toro was melt in your mouth delish which was a nice contrast to the seared Toro Aburi which had a great smoky bacon quality. My favorite Uni was so creamy and fresh. And of course the Lobster Van Van is a must! Mitch's is also BYOB which is a definite plus. The staff is so nice and welcoming we're sure to be back.

Yelp
I've gone here almost a handful of times already and have been able to try a variety of items from the menu. Of all the times I've already gone, I've got to try the following: 1. 12 piece sashimi combo - Great way to try a little bit of everything. Between two people, I would get 1 sashimi combo and 1 sushi combo so you can try both. But if you had to choose one, I'd go for sashimi combo 2. 10 piece sushi combo - Great way to try a little bit of everything 3. Uni tsunami - Good but wish they gave more seaweed. I think it only comes with 4 but I guess I'd rather have more uni and less seaweed bs the other way around lol 4. Toro sashimi - So buttery it melts in your mouth. Depending on how many orders you can, it can be a bit too much. 6 pieces sashimi for 2 people was dangerous haha especially if it's left to eat last 5. Toro sushi - So buttery it melts in your mouth. Depending on how many orders you can, it can be a bit too much. If you don't want too much toro, I'd go for the sushi option over the sashimi option 6. Salmon sashimi - Great quality! Would recommend if you're a salmon lover 7. Lobster van van - There was a promo going on when I tried this where it was half off. It sounded promising but really should've just passed on this. It's too heavy and was a bit simple for the price. Definitely wouldn't have gotten this if it were the regular price 8. California roll - Tasted good and wasn't anything out of the ordinary 9. Spicy hamachi roll - I don't know what I was expecting but it definitely wasn't sriracha plopped on top of the sushi roll lol. It wasn't bad but I was expecting something similar to how spicy tuna is made 10. Salmon skin hand roll - Wouldn't recommend. The salmon skin wasn't crispy enough for me. There also wasn't too much flavor to the hand roll I feel like portions have gotten smaller and prices have either gone up or remained somewhat the same for certain items, which makes it difficult to justify coming back anytime soon. Don't expect to be full unless you're ordering a ton, which also means spending more $$$. Service is always great so no complaints there. Parking can be very limited so be prepared to find parking elsewhere if you can't park in front of the restaurant. Also, I've always made an effort to make a reservation to ensure I can get a table. I've never seen the place super booked but it can get busy quick considering there aren't many tables

Yelp
Ordered this platter to share with family. The fish is so fresh and they are very generous with the portions! It was very easy to order our platter and pay online, we literally just showed up at our designated time and it was ready. The staff is always very friendly, the location is also very easy to get to.This is one of the more expensive platters, but you get such a great variety of fish/sushi options, it is totally worth it.

Yelp
I was on vacation and searched Yelp for sushi and found this place. I stayed at a hotel in Waikiki in a very touristy area so when I pulled up to Mitch's I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to go in as it's located in an industrial area. We got there when they had just opened so the place was empty. I am so happy we decided to go in!! Some of the best quality fish I will ever eat! Everything I ordered was fresh. Service was fast and friendly. They don't have any other type of food like Ramen or other Japanese entrees, but if you're looking for good sushi this IS THE PLACE! They have some grilled options that were amazing as well. And Obama has been here.
google avatar

Cary P.

Yelp
Pretty good sushi, which I've had a hard time finding. My friend pointed out they used fatty salmon which I couldn't untaste lol. Order a little at first to make sure you like it!

Yelp
Located in the airport industrial area, this place is easy to miss if you're driving down the road. We made reservations for lunch and were seated immediately. The place is tiny and wasn't crowded at all. Once seated, we were greeted by a male and female server. I think the male server was in training. He was nice but seemed out of place like he didn't know how to build rapport with us. We weren't quite ready to check out once we finished our food but he came to our table wanting to process our payment. We thought that was odd. We ordered the chirashi and the lobster roll. The chirashi was very tiny but the fish was super fresh! The lobster roll was good but wasn't my favorite. Overall, giving it 4 stars for the fresh fish. This place is pricey but I'm looking forward to coming back to try more dishes!

Yelp
Amazing seafood! Fresh and delicious! We came here with a large group for a company party. This place is very large and could easily accommodate our group in a separate room. Service was great. Parking limited but we gad no problem finding street parking nearby. I was sooo full but could not waste great food! Needless to say, I was stuffed!

Yelp
Have I not been here before? Mitch's was the first sushi restaurant I ever took my husband back when he was my boyfriend for his birthday. It set the pace for years for us. But this is not the little hole in the wall secret spot with three guys behind a sushi counter who only spoke Japanese and one other person who spoke just enough English to take orders. Nope. This place has gotten so much bigger. I heard It has changed hands. There is an 18% gratuity for parties 8 or more sign on the wall instead of sushi posters and fishing shots of the original South African that was Mitch. It's clean and fancy now. I remember when if you had a group you were escorted to a small room by the walk in freezers in the garage that looked like a makeshift dining room. But the memory makes me smile and remember when.......... So here we are over a decade and a half later .... And everyone speaks English and the original room is a walk thru entryway. There's so much space and everything seems really clean. Exciting. But when the chirashi came out $32 for 7 very oddly cut pieces of fish, an overcooked ebi and two pieces of tamagotchi, I was stunned. And so very disappointed. The pieces were stingy and cut in all shapes and sizes, all except generous. Which is what we remembered from the last time we were here. It's clean. And fine. But what a letdown for the memory of what Mitch's was. So sad. I almost wish we didn't come back this time, maybe we could have kept the memories untouched.

Yelp
Fresh sushi, horrible customer service. Server rolled her eyes when asked to explain our ordering options. Lacked customer service and they don't like Filipinos. Genki sushi will do you better. Hamchi was good, but Keamoku seafood does the same thing, and they're super nice.
google avatar

Innsu K.

Yelp
Ordered some Uni, Sweet Shrimp (Ebi?), Salmon, Avocado roll, Miso soup, and a 10 Piece Sushi. Not enough food for me but super good. The salmon was so good... the uni too... the simple foods were for the baby and she loved it! Service was quick on a random 4:30 weekday. Parking is by the building but kind of awkward so I just street parked. Very much a formal casual feel?

Yelp
Finally tried this place after hearing great reviews. The fish is super fresh. Sushi rice doesn't taste like your typical sushi rice at Japanese restaurants. It was sour and the texture was not what I'm used to...the miso soup was delicious because they added a shrimp head and there were lots of guts oozing out. Very popular restaurant since President Obama's picture is on the wall and some celebs I don't recognize. Local spot that not a lot of tourists know about. Check it out!

Yelp
Oh my god Okay so this was our first dinner in Hawaii and we are beyond impressed.. this place is a literal hole in the wall and ofc it's Barack Obama approved and now it's Tay approved xD My bf has never had omakase before he's a suuuper picky eater when it comes to seafood and sushi but we opted to try it cus fuqqit we in Hawaii yakno?? So we both did omakase which is more than enough food imo, he chose to get the regular omakase while I upgraded my miso salmon to the lobster tan tan ( totally worth the 18$ if u like seafood btw) The starter was spicy salmon poke (?) it was so good.... loved the level of spice and the green onions add the best freshness to it The first course was the freshest mfing sashimi EVER Every single piece of fish just melted in our mouths.. like we didn't even dip our sashimi in soy sauce, we just ate it that shit up and it was incredible.. I mean the otoro, chutoro and salmon were sauuurrrr sexy and buttery The next course was the grilled miso salmon and lobster van van which great palate cleansers The sushi was the next course and we loooooooved the chutoro and tuna My favorites were the uni and amaebi because I'm a literal slut for those dishes The aji and ikura were rly yummy too To finish it off my bf got the matcha mochi while I ended the meal with amaebi miso soup The matcha mochi was incredibly delicious, just by the color of the matcha you could tell it was the real deal, that dark forest green color, absolute banger And the miso soup was a perfect way to finish the deal Service was good, they were helpful with all our questions on which fish was what I literally cannot recommend this place more, I'm so in love.. my bf who never had omakase before loved every bit of his experience as well, there wasn't a single dish that he disliked which means a lot! I wish I could live in Hawaii so I could come dine here every week but forsure I'll be back before I leave cus this place is the shiiiiii

Yelp
I have heard so many GREAT reviews about how good the sushi is here. Let me preface it first: I lived in Japan for 3 years so my bar is pretty high. The quality of the dish and the ratio of rice to fish was PERFECT! The grilled ahi belly was so fresh and is the best I've ever had! Aside from how amazing the food tasted, the service was also excellent. They gave great suggestions and were very attentive. Will definitely be back for more!

Yelp
Another great dinner with my brother and he's wife. Celebrate my birthday early. Good fresh sushi. Love it. I ate like a piggy. my favorite is ikura, maguro ,salmon nigiri. So fresh and plentiful. If you want to eat sushi go there. Located in the airport industrial area.

Yelp
Yummm. My friend told me about this place a year ago and I never can make it out towards the airport after work. Truly amazing fish - the king salmon was to die for. To be honest - I would just order the sashimi platter next time because it was my favorite part (and more than half the price!). I went in the wrong side of the building and thought I was lost - definitely an unassuming warehouse style building but nice decor inside! The sushi bar area is normally my favorite (most of the time I find they throw me extra ;)) but here, it was more like their area to prep to go food and they didn't offer the option - so I sat at a table. All in all - recommend for sure. It's BYOB so don't make the mistake I did and not bring any B!

Yelp
Celebrated my wife's birthday at Mitch's courtesy of Craig and his wife Keli. Friendly and fast service. This was my second time there, and I enjoyed everything I ordered. The baked scallop appetizer is a must buy again. They serve the freshest of seafood and all top quality. Enjoy

Yelp
How can I not visit one of Obama's go-to spots?! The reviews looked great and I was craving fresh fish so off to Mitch's we went! I highly recommend making a reservation. It was easy to make a reservation online for a 5:30 dinner on a Tuesday night. I agree with others that the location could be off putting. It's a bit industrial around. There was some designated parking but that may be due to our early dinner time. Not sure how parking would be when it gets busier. We walked inside and it did have a strong fish smell, but perhaps due to the sushi chefs right by the entrance. I didn't see any seats so I was nervous, but the hostess took us back through the doors and to be seated. There was a nice fish tank and well spaced out seating. The fish smell was much less noticeable in the seating area. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. Lots of options - but be warned that this place is NOT a place you can bring your non-fish eating friend. There is no chicken teriyaki for them to escape too. Ha! The Misoyaki Salmon was what we got our 2 year old (who can be very picky at times) and she really liked it. I also tasted it and was frankly shocked how flavorful it was. So so great. We then got the Ben Scott platter and Chutoro sushi. All the fish was so fresh, buttery, and delicious. The wasabi was a bit elevated too with actual wasabi root (not just the usual horseradish paste). It was the best raw salmon I have ever eaten. One of the fish cuts wasn't my favorite as there were some harder parts. It was a white fish. Definitely pricey - about $300 including tip. I do want to reiterate that this place is BYOB (bring your own booze) so we saw people bringing in their own champagne and wine. I'm not sure if there is additional cost for bringing in alcohol. This place has a high price tag and the ambiance isn't incredibly elevated to match the price tag. But, very fresh fish. Would definitely return as a treat and recommend to others who want raw fish.

Yelp
Tucked away in Oahu, Mitches Sushi is a hidden gem that defies first impressions. While the exterior might not catch your eye, stepping inside reveals a surprisingly nice and welcoming atmosphere. It's a testament to the saying "don't judge a book by its cover." The star of the show at Mitches is undoubtedly the sushi. The freshness of the ingredients is palpable, and every piece is a delightful burst of flavor. The menu is a treasure trove of culinary delights, offering a diverse range of options that cater to all sushi preferences. Convenience is a plus, as there is parking right in front of the restaurant. However, it's wise to make reservations in advance, as Mitches tends to get busy. The popularity is a testament to the quality of the dining experience. Service at Mitches is not just friendly; it's genuinely warm and accommodating. The sushi chefs, in particular, stand out with their friendly demeanor and inviting smiles that create a positive and enjoyable atmosphere. While the price point leans toward the more expensive side, the experience justifies it. Mitches is the kind of place you'd choose for special occasions or when you want to treat yourself to an exceptional dining experience. In conclusion, Mitches Sushi is a surprising find in Oahu, offering more than meets the eye. Fresh and flavorful sushi, friendly service, and a welcoming interior make it a worthwhile destination, despite its unassuming exterior. For those seeking a memorable dining experience, especially on special occasions, Mitches Sushi is a top-notch choice.

Yelp
Got some sashimi for my aunty and grandpa for their birthday! I ordered online and went to pick it up. Ordering online was straight forward and easy. Parking was slim, so I just parked next door real quick to pick up my order (oops) which I don't recommend doing if you'll be dining in. Don't want to risk your car getting ticketed or towed. Better safe than sorry. My order was ready when I got there at my chosen pick up time. Customer service from the host woman was lacking and could definitely be a bit warmer with a smile. But it was a cute establishment and was neat to see them prep some fish and sushi while I was waiting for her to get my order from the fridge. Now, I don't eat fish due to allergies but my aunty and grandpa enjoyed their sashimi! It was a lot for them so my uncle had a few pieces and he liked it too! They have a bit high standards when it comes to fish so their contentment spoke volumes.

Yelp
Our first time at Mitch's and sushi was very fresh. Hubby and I had the sushi omakase and daughter had a few rolls. Every piece was a treat , very flavorful and the perfect temperature. Service was great! Mahalo Toshi for the wonderful friendly service !

Yelp
WOW!!! First things first, I saw the ratings & number of $$$$ and thought it meant it was a dress up, fancy spot. DO NOT DRESS UP. It is a hole in the wall. But I tell you what, it is also the best sushi I've ever had. My husband and I both got omekase with the lobster upgrade, me with the miso soup, him with mochi ice cream. Get the omekase!!! There's an appetizer, a sashimi course, the lobster, the sushi, then the miso & ice cream. All I can say is that everything was very creamy and delicious. But remember, don't dress up.

Yelp
Great spot for really authentic Japanese Sushi and no Udon for the kids, remember that!! Location and parking is a hit hard but other than don't let the outside of the building fool you the food inside is legit! I'm not sure the food is kid friendly but if everyone likes Sushi, this is a must! Price isn't cheap but personally U get what u U pay for.

Yelp
I think it is safe to say that there are an abundance of sushi options on the island. And considering the price and the quality it is a safe bet that your sushi will be consistently good enough here at Mitch's Fish market in Sushi bar however, it's not really a bang for your buck and it's not that all that special. Wished the grilled hamachi kama was a little bit more seasoned, and I get that you might want the ingredients to stand out for itself, but for the cost of $30, kinda wish there was something a little bit more unique to it. The grilled scallops were OK, a little bit overcooked, so they were rubbery. The spicy rolls have dollops of sriracha on top to make it spicy, and that to me lacks effort. The nigiris were all good, but that's all I have to say. They were fine, nothing more to it. I paid around $200+ for my partner & i & we were still hungry for more. Also, for some reason, our server kept forgetting to get us our soft drinks so we just settled for our water & made sure we weren't charged extra. I was hopeful & I was a little excited seeing the image of Obama dining here but it's just advertisement. No wonder I was able to get a same day reservation here. xD

Yelp
My wife had been missing fresh fish since she moved to the mainland years ago. Mitch's had been on her list of the places she had wanted to try as she used to pass by the "hole-in-the-wall" place often on her way to work, but never stopped by. She was not disappointed. The fish is the freshest we've had. And she was very glad to have tried it. Price/Portion it's a bit on the spendy side. But worth it as a celebratory splurge in a low-key setting. The waitress was extremely knowledgeable of all the different types of fish. We got some things in the omakase menu we had not had before (or at least not on the mainland). I was impressed by the Bluefin Otoro. It came in a bowl and appeared to either be finely chopped, or scraped off the tuna bones and topped with chopped green onion and a pea-sized smear of fresh wasabi on the side. It made me think of Lomi Oio Poke. The sweet shrimp was also a standout. Unlike Ebi which is a cooked shrimp, the sweet shrimp was served raw. Meticulously cleaned, it had a crisp texture similar to well-presented ika, but was definitely sweet! I emphasize how clean the shrimp was, because I've had poorly cleaned shrimp, both cooked and somewhat raw in ceviche where my throat closed up after eating. There was none of that here! The rest was very simply presented, fresh sushi. No fancy flambe, excessive, squirts of colorful sauces, or gold leaf sprinkles. We also ordered some roasted oysters that were delicious and briny. I think we only had Tabasco available to dress it up. Maybe some horseradish, or even Hawaiian "peppa water" would have been nice, but not really necessary. Still a bit hungry, we ordered hand rolls to round out the meal. They were also very nice, wrapped with perfectly dry, crisp nori sheets. Dessert-wise, this is not a dessert place! You come here for the fish. My wife's friend had joined us for dinner. She and I had the mochi which was okay. Not sure if it was house-made, or came from a supermarket freezer section. My wife went for the Miso Soup (Yes, offered as dessert). She very much enjoyed that! Not a typical miso. No seaweed, or tofu chunks. Just a very smooth broth garnished with a fat shrimp head which was packed with flavor! Again, this would not be our go-to, daily sushi dinner, but perfect for a special occasion. Yelp
My sister-in-law ordered a sushi platter from here for New Year's Eve dinner and it was hands-down the best thing we ate at dinner. She went for a platter with maguro, chutoro, otoro, and salmon. The nigiri were exquisite--amazing fish to rice ratio and the fish simply melted in my mouth with minimal chewing. It was beyond just being fresh--the quality of the fish was divine. After that experience, I really want to dine in at Mitch's soon. If you are a fan and have your favorites there, please send them my way!

Yelp
No where can beat Mitch's on the island. Everything tastes very fresh. Services was good and our server was very friendly and helpful. Love their sushi/sashimi bar. I ordered their Omakase and worth it for every penny. We all enjoyed our dinner.

Yelp
First timers. My husband and I got the special which included assortment of fresh sashimi, sushi, grilled fish or lobster for $33 more and green tea mochi or miso soup for dessert. We ordered grilled oysters and assortment of salmon skin and spicy ahi rolls. Yes it's pricey but that's what you pay for fresh seafood and great service. BYOB. Next visit we'll probably order the oyster and lobster again and a sushi platter of our choice.
