Mitsos Greek Food & Coffee

First time here and absolutely in love! Got the traditional Greek gyro (pork) and it's superb! Giant, fresh, juicy and delicious. Tons of flavor. Tzatziki is on point. The iced coffee is 🤤. Gigante beans are tender and full of flavor yet not oversalted. Owners are super sweet. Will be back!!!

I went on a weekday around noon. They were very busy. It's a food stand more than a restaurant. I got the traditional gyro (pork). I found the meat fairly flavorless. The sauce was good and the veggies seemed fresh. My main issue is the size. It's too big to get a full bite so you can't get a good taste of the sandwich as a whole. I think it may be traditional but they char the pita. Next time I'll try the "american" which I'm guessing will have more flavor.

The best gyro I’ve ever had by far. This place never ceases to amaze me with how absolutely delicious the food is. The pita is so soft and fresh. The meat is out of this world. Mitsos is where gyro dreams come true! Tried the fried feta for the first time and I’ve never had anything like it. Seriously bomb food consistently.

Hands down, best gyro we've ever had! We paid a visit to Mitsos and were blown away. As two Greek Torontonians who've had our fair share of Greek food, we were shockingly surprised by how tasty everything was. Fresh ingredients, perfectly seasoned meat, and that homemade tzatziki? Absolutely incredible. Mitsos nailed it. We'll definitely be stopping by again on our trip back to Detroit!

I got a traditional gyro sandwich and it was so good! Fresh tomatoes and onions, flavorful pork and the sauce and pita were good too. Everyone was friendly and the restaurant was very clean.

If this is the best gyro in Detroit, I'm curious how bad the worst one will be. As a Greek, this gyro was terrible. I even found a piece of a skewer in my pita! The pita was greasy and the pork was dry.

Limited seating with barstools and counter made it hard to find a spot to devour. There was one picnic table outside but it only held 6 people at a time and there was already 2-3 groups occupying. Inside was also taken. We are on a bench outside of the restaurant but it was hard to not drop and spill my food (it was super windy today too). HOWEVER— probably the best traditional and chicken gyro I’ve tried. It’s hard to find chicken gyros where I live I can only ever seem to find lamb and beef. The gyros come with fries but the fries or on top of the gyro and there’s like 6 fries so it’s not really like a side of fries fyi. Glad we ordered a side of fries. The avgolemono soup was very good, I prefer it made with orzo instead of the rice which gets a little too soggy. However I’ve definitely had worse from restaurants. This place was pretty busy so be prepared to think about what you want to order, and where you want to eat it if there’s no tables around.

Mitsos Greek Food catered our daughter’s graduation party, and all the food was delicious! We received so many compliments!!!! We ordered the chicken, pork and lamb gyros with rice and butter beans!! We also ordered the village Greek salad and spinach pie!!!! In addition we served the honey bite size donuts! 🍩 Those were a huge hit!!!! We had some left overs to share and keep! It’s definitely going to be our go to for future parties!🎊 Mitsos did a fabulous job making sure we had the best food to serve 60 guests!!!👏😃

Everyone is always in the best mood and so friendly here! Both breakfast and lunch are great. This is also a cute spot to sit outside at in the summer.

Mitsos is our go-to when we're at Eastern Market! It's obviously a family owned restaurant and they seem to really care about all their customers. Eating outside was wonderful this past summer, as they have outdoor picnic tables. The food is delicious and always fresh, and everyone working there seems so kind. Don't forget an iced coffee, they're consistently tasty. The portions are HUGE. My husband and I easily could've split a single meal and been happy with the mountain of fries they gave us.

Stopped by Mitsos during a recent trip to Detroit and was blown away by the quality of the fresh Gyros that they offer here. I decided to go with the Hercules and a side of fries. The Hercules was maybe the best gyro I've had in several years, easily. The big stack of meat, with beautiful sauce, and fresh pita was absolutely perfect. It's been a few months and I am still dreaming of the gyro. The fries were also delicious - freshly fried and crispy. Absolutely a great meal and they have some super cool soda options. The place has a few bar seats to sit at as well as some outdoor seating, but just a handful of tables. You order at the front and they'll call out your number when the food is ready so there is no table service. That being said, the staff are incredibly friendly. The only drawback and unfortunately for me, was a massive drawback as I have some stomach issues is that they have no bathroom at all. I had to wander around nearby stores and ask for someone to let me in which is so unfortunate. Definitely brings this down a star for me as I was worrying the whole time of where I'd be able to go.

Salt of the Earth people live and work in Detroit ... Jimmy runs this joint with his wife Irene and it's a family affair... Walked my way from the Wyndham Pontchatrain to the Eastern Market in like less than an hour... a beautiful walk... Cabrera is playing his last home game for the Tigers and the fans are sending THEIR love with a sold out Ford Stadium... you hear their yells and screams as you walk down these ancient Detroit streets... I got one thing on my mind ... the pork meat slabs on an original gyro... w exemplary Greek style fries laid inside the gyro... yum Then try the lemon soup... its gorgeously delicious... like something my NONA made when I was a kid BUT BETTER... the fries are outstanding...on the side too .. why not... it's hard to find fries that taste like this... The rice pilaf YOU CAN TASTE THE SAFFRON! And it's light airiness and texture ... I finished the whole little cup...in a gulp... excuse me... I was hungry Then the Greek donuts with cinnamon and honey had the bees flying in thinking THEY WERE HOME! a Fredo to wash it all down which is like a cappuccino tasting iced latte with milky frothy cream on top... All of it... delicious No man is an island here... We're all FAM!!! Ps Sorry guys... no fotos OF THE FOOD What matters is what's inside here! PEOPLE CARRY CABRERA AND DETROIT IN THEIR HEARTS... I'm thinking about only GYROS now... The spinach and cheese doughy turnovers with their cheesy filling and special Greek cheeses like Feta and other I forgot how to pronounce ... will melt in your mouth ... the dough crisps off like snowflakes in winter.. leaving all these snowflakes of dough everywhere ... so brush yourself off why don't you... you're a mess kid... We forget ourselves here... Glad to see they didn't forget how to make that original Greek fare here...like they do it in GREECE!!! Peace! PS Andy Milonakis would be proud of this place

Fresh, delicious food that hits the spot. Coffee was good too! It's nice to eat outside right by the market as well.

Delicious! Obsessed with the tzatziki, very garlicky and they put so much on the pita. The meat was flavorful and fresh. Plenty of tomatoes and onions. Love that they put fries on the pita. And the pita was grilled to perfection. I really enjoyed the soup. It was thick and flavorful. I do wish there was a little more lemon flavor, but I would still get it again. It came with pita and crackers. I was greeted the second I walked into the place. The woman at the register was very kind and the food came out in minutes. Prices are fair! Although small, they have indoor counter seating for a few people and plenty outdoor seating.

Delicious food and coffee, plus quick and friendly service! We stopped in with our two kids under 5 and everyone had a great meal, with leftovers for later. Our kids loved the burger and handcut fries, and my husband and I loved the Greek salad, gyro and super fresh pita. We chatted with the owners who were incredibly helpful with keeping our kids happy and entertained too. We'll be back!

Wow! What an incredible little spot! The ambiance makes you feel like you are in Mykonos! The food is authentic and truly delicious! The service was quick and they talk to you like your family! HIGHLY recommend the Greek salad with chicken! The lamb was good too! And the pita is to die for!

Mitsos by far has the BEST gyro downtown and in the metro area. Don't waste your time in Greektown for some fake Greek food. Their traditional pork gyro and souvlaki gyro are a must try, spanakopita as well!

The food here is delicious! They offer counter service and the man at the counter is very nice and helpful. The offer limited indoor seating and have outdoor seating as well. Conveniently located on the corner, this quaint little restaurant is a must if you're near Eastern Market. I will be back.

I've tried a lot of gyros, but the one they have is by far the best I've ever had! It was super fresh and tasted even better! The atmosphere is amazing, everyone there was so friendly. I even tried their famous iced coffee. Hands down the best iced coffee in Detroit; I'll even say it was the best coffee I've ever had. If you're craving good Greek food, please try them out! 10/10

Loved my lunch from Mitsos. I ordered the spanakopita and it was delicious. I love that the combo came with a small Greek and cannellini. I didn't get my drink when I picked up, but I will definitely return. Good food and service. Love the location in the heart of Eastern Market.

First off, the food is decent. They give a good sized portion. Not many complaints about that. Mainly my issue was the rudeness and demeanor of one of the family members ( noticeably big fellow ). It outweighs the food IMO, for example. One customer I witness asked if they could have ketchup as a side. The 'rude' guy had an unnecessary attitude to the customer saying "why do you want ketchup the sauce here takes days to make and you want that? " I can tell when someone is joking or not but this guy was serious. While dining inside. Another customer accidentally dropped some water on the floor and I heard the 'rude' guy once again say "this fking guy is dropping water on the floor idiot" It's not that serious I thought, the customer even cleaned it off the floor. Yeah just my experience with the place. It's not a friendly environment to eat, it felt hostile. My opinion just do carry out and try not to stay around. They will hound you! 1 star! Happy eating

One of the best authentic gyro spots in Detroit! Amongst many things, they make their delicious tzatziki sauce in house. Their meat is well prepared, fresh, and tender. The portion sizes are large. Each order is made fresh. I've been here many times and the quality is consistent every time. The owner is often present and is a gem to speak to. There is a small counter top area for seating in the winter and they open outdoor seating in the summer. Highly recommend this place!!

The food was delicious! The service was nice and friendly! The area is very nice with a cute seating area outside. We got 2 greek sandwiches. amazing! the charred meat, the tzatziki.. best gyro we've had hands down. We also got the iced coffee (SO YUM) and lemonade. also got the dozen donuts. so good. The food is divine and the portions are massive. I watched how freshly the meal was made. The family that runs this restaurant is so kind and uplifting. Truly the best gyros I've ever had. I love seeing local folks succeed!

This place is authentic and excellent! The gyro was filling and full of flavor, plus there was no fat to be found in the meat. The freddo coffee surprised me and was even better than I expected--super smooth and creamy! I ordered for pick up and it was ready on time. I was also excited to see they had outdoor seating out front.

Amazing place! It is The Best place in town for Gyros . Fresh,Huge portions, Excellent customer service. I drove 36 miles to get here and have no regrets whatsoever! Will come again ! It's a great community place , with outdoor seating ! Food was soooo delicious! Reasonably priced I would say even kinda low priced for the amount of food You get . We have eaten at MITSOS multiple times and it's the BEST AUTHENTIC GREEK food we've ever had!!! My favorite is the vegetarian & we've also had the chicken and beef gyros too! It's our family's "go to" place to dine! THANK YOU Chefs!

Ok folks....finally made it here! We drove all the way from the Irish Hills (Brooklyn) to get a gyro! We had heard about all the great reviews and had to give it a try. Reviews are true...FABULOUS! I had the traditional gyro...the meat was tender and perfectly spiced. Veggies were fresh and crisp..something you don't normally get at a generic Coney Island. The place has a fresh feel...new...clean. We sat outside and loved the atmosphere of vibrant Detroit...wish we didn't live so far away...would Uber eats deliver 80 miles? We will try

Went to a party which had mitsos catered. They got gyro, pita, chicken, green salad, tzatziki. I have never heard of mitsos before, but it was some of the best Greek food. The pita is fluffy and soft, everything is flavorful to the max. The rice is outstanding. I can't wait to check out the storefront!

The food is fresh and delicious! The staff is friendly and welcoming and has knowledge about the market area.. The owners are hard working and have long been in the restaurant business. They strive hard to make your visit pleasant. The salads are freshly made and the gyro was delicious. They make their own donuts and they are amazing!! Order some to go!! Happy National Gyro Day 2023 tomorrow 9-1-23, this place is on fire OMG. Jimmy da Greek got mad skills, marinading the Meat overnight then placed on cone for slicing. Open 6 months in the heart of Eastern Market it's a must visit. Sliced Pork n Chicken and Gyro piled high on the platter we got. With Greek Butter Beans n Greek Salad Wonderful . I got the traditional Greek Gyro on house made pita bread and topped with shoestring Fries WOWED. A pleasant surprise order of Greek Donuts Loukoumades drenched in Honey outstanding Delicious . Very good, great enthusiastic owners. Sitting on a corner is this gem. You walk up to counter, order and take your food out to eat at the small wrought iron tables. It was suggested that I try the grilled veggie wrap. I did. Huge, plentiful, tasty, messy, delish. The homemade hand cut fries very good. After shopping at the market, def walk across parking lit for some delish greek.

This was the best gyro I've ever had. It was huge! I had the American (the beef/lamb we're all familiar with) and my husband had the traditional with pork. The woman at the counter said pork is what you'd actually get in Greece. They both were SO good- juicy and flavorful. My hubs said he'd pick the pork over the lamb/beef if he ever had the chance again. Also had the beans which were in a delicious, thick tomato-y sauce. So good. Workers were friendly and knowledgeable too!

Got American gyro and wow it was huge even for being the"smaller" gyro! Absolutely loved and the tzatiki sauce had a great flavor, not bland. Highly recommend!!

This is the most amazing gyro you will ever eat. I can not talk up this restaurant enough. The food is so delicious and the staff is beyond welcoming and friendly. If you want to support a family run establishment and fill your belly with wonderful food this is the place to go. The space is small but it's the perfect spot to grab a sandwich or two and head to Eastern Market Brewery across the street. The traditional greek is the best thing on the menu.

Food was filling. The quantity was quite big but I'm giving 2 star review because they were extremely rude. As my party of 4 finished eating and were getting ready to leave, the woman, presumingly owner, shouted at us to make sure we clean up our mess and proceeded to point to where the trash bin was. That was very very rude of her, she was insinuating that we were going to leave a mess uncleaned. As If we were going to leave without cleaning. She shouted and made it known she was upset. Everyone looked because it was so abrupt. A store owner should never behave in that manner.

So glad that my bf and I decided to go here. It did not disappoint! The food and vibes were amazing and the outdoor seating is the cutest! I recommend getting the "American" gyro solely because it has lamb instead of chicken. The meat was seasoned to perfection! If you're near eastern market, you need to stop here! Grab a Greek coffee while you're at it too!

Stumbled upon this new restaurant in Eastern Market a month back. I've only had the breakfast pita sandwich and a cold brew but if the other food is as good as the sandwich I'm sure you'll be satisfied! Jimmy the owner is worth going there just to his passion for his restaurant, he genuinely makes you feel right at home too. There's not a lot of seating inside but they were putting tables and chairs outside when I was there so if it's nice out it'll be a great spot to enjoy some food and hang out in Eastern Market.

I stopped by Mitsos on Tigers opening day because parking is cheaper. They had their music on and the big door open so I decided to stop in, and I'm glad I did. I ordered a traditional gyro and it was just like the ones I had in Athens. It took me back to 2004 when I was there for the Olympics. The pita was clearly fresh made, not like the "coney pitas" and the meat was spiced just right. I didn't have much time for trying other stuff so I grabbed a hot coffee to go to keep me warm on the walk to the stadium. I WILL be back here soon to try more of their food. The service was prompt and friendly and I look forward to seeing them again soon.

Food was hot fresh and delicious. A real find in the Eastern Market area. The service was fast friendly and entertaining. The concept of the restaurant is a walk up counter inside but open air when the weather is nice. The owner greeted us and treated us to some Greek Doughnuts soaked in honey to sample his product and get our opinion- the owner really Ostend to the customer experience and wanted to know our thoughts. Just a great afternoon lunch experience - what a joy.

I have had almost everything on the menu here and it is all great. Whichever way you like it, the gyros are delicious. The chicken sandwich and the burger are both very solid options, with their own individual delights. Chicken lemon soup? Delish. Fries? Delish. The donuts? DO NOT SLEEP ON THEM! The tons of coffee options from a magic machine? Muah! Don't sleep on this place, it is a gem. ;

Absolutely delicious Greek food! I had a coffee and the Traditional Greek gyro, both which were tremendous. The homemade pita, pork, tzatziki, onions, tomatoes and fries were perfect. This family owned restaurant is so welcoming and brings a touch of Greece to Eastern Market. We will definitely be frequent customers and are so excited to have Mitsos nearby!
