Yelp
This is a hard review to write, because I don't like writing negative reviews. But far too many things went wrong in one visit not to, and for an expensive place, be forewarned. It's a long story but my husband and I are living apart for the last few months and this was our one night out during a two week stay when I visited him while recovering from surgery. I had a pretty big list of restaurants to choose from and chose Mizu based on previous positive reviews, the menu, and the rooftop option. It had rained ALL week and this was the first nice night so we jumped at the chance to sit outside.
First, valet couldn't park a manual, but didn't say anything until we were well seated and had ordered drinks and were ordering appetizers. We had to rush through the rest of our order so he could move his car. When my husband went down to move his own car, he found that they had tried to start it but couldn't even figure that out (he left it running so they stalled it trying to drive it - I don't even wanna know how that went).
When the server first came to the table, she asked if we had been there before to which we replied, no. At that point, we were told it was a tapas style restaurant, and she described the most popular dishes on the menu. She seemed to really know the menu well so I felt that we were in good hands. But what also seemed odd is that there are some big plates on the menu, which you can actually eat as an entrée which we did. So I'm not sure if they just prefer to sell a bunch of expensive appetizers or what. Also, when I ordered my drink, I told the waitress to pick a rosé for me, to which she asked flat or sparkling. I chose flat, but sparkling arrived, I didn't say anything, just drank it. Appetizers arrived, they were great, we got the tuna crisp and the lemon drop, both were excellent, so we thought we were off to a good start and just had a few bumps. In between appetizers and the entrees they brought over a few 'gifts from the chef' I believe they called it, edamame and grilled pineapple. These were beautiful and thoughtful touches but unfortunately the rest of our experience was so poor this barely makes up for it.
Then my husband's entrée arrives, or what we think is my husband's entrée because he ordered the cod and they called it something else. I don't even remember what he got but the runner simply said they were out of the cod, so this was the replacement, we were never told they were out of cod. I sat there waiting for my salmon to arrive for a good 10 minutes before it came. My husband and I do not eat separately so he waited and his food got completely cold, waiting for mine. When my food did arrive, it was so spicy I could not even eat it, there is no indication of that on the menu or else I would not have ordered it, I do not eat spicy food. My husband and I had to switch, leaving me with a dish with a mushroom taste, and I don't like mushrooms. He was even sweating at the amount of spice. We didn't get to say anything to the waitress because she never came to check on our food. We also didn't get to order another glass of wine which we would've liked with our dinner. Oh, and there was a hair in the rice on the salmon dish, we just pulled it out and kept eating. As you can see we are not complainers.
Before I even got my salmon, the waitress came and dropped off the dessert menu, which I thought was so weird. I didn't even get my entrée yet, where is my food?! We glanced at it and saw some unique options so we ended up getting the coconut dome, that ended up being the best part of the meal, it was delicious.
We got the check and couldn't wait to get out of there, but then that's all we did, wait, and wait, and wait. We finally got up to go inside to pay. My husband then asked to discuss our night with the manager, he has supervised at five star hotels and just likes to brings things like this to their attention, all he got was a bunch of apologies. I just hope they do better.
