"Standing at the foot of the bridge that leads to Sandy Hook and the Jersey Shore beyond, Moby’s (and its nearby sibling Bahr’s Landing) is a restaurant and marina, with this less formal dockside eatery that’s open during the season (which ends sometime in October). Both restaurants offer steamers — softshell clams steamed in their shells (and, in this case, in a net), presented with clam broth and drawn butter for your dipping pleasure. The flavor is sweet, chewy, and ultra-briny." - Robert Sietsema

Last summer the first time I visited this restaurant , it was delicious and also affordable. Now I don't know what happened , the taste was a frozen potato, fish and also very expensive, one lunch plate was 22 per person and a beer was 10 dollars . I thought OMG this is still NJ no NYC ! I won't come back here.

Google
I have been going to Moby’s for years. We had a date night and we enjoyed everything. The food the ambiance and the view.

Google
Loved this old school seafood casual restaurant! Located in the Highlands NJ . We had the cod sandwich’s with fries , cold slaw and an ear of corn . The sandwich is a huge piece of fish . I feel it’s a bargain at $11.00’. Definitely get a side of fries . We loved it so much we came back and brought the kids ! They loved the French fries and the view of the water . The service is terrific , friendly and fast . Also This place is great also for ice cream . The ice cream is creamy and lots of terrific flavors are available. I had camp fire S mores . They have a frozen chocolate banana that I will have to try . Next time for sure .

After a beach day Moby's is a must. I recommend the Sea Dog, with an ice cold beer. They do have a wide variety of beer and a great seafood menu. The food comes out quickly and the staff is very friendly. They'll answer all your questions. Anytime I've gone there was a nice breeze flowing through the deck/dining area, which is nice on a hot day. Stop in, I recommend it, there's an ice cream shop attached and the restrooms are close to the entrance on the street.

Google
The best spot to eat seafood or burgers in front of the sea after a beach day. The restaurant has a nice view and offers variety. Three places in one: Ice cream shop, seafood and burgers and cocktails bar. Food was delicious and the service was great!

Olivia K

Google
I love how you have the ability to sit near the water and feel the breeze as you eat your food. I have been going to Moby’s Lobster Deck since I was born and I have now realized that I never wrote a review about it. Usually when I go I have their Fish because its so amazing but this time I decided to try their Burger. It was really good for a fish place. I really recommend coming to Moby’s Lobster Deck. Trust me you wont regret buying your food there. Definitely try the fish, it’s amazing.

Google
Staff = awesome! There were five of us there celebrating a birthday and everything we ordered was perfect. It was wonderful sitting out by the water with the ocean breeze. We truly had a great time.

joan escobosa

Google
We ordered the cheeseburger with bacon, it was disgusting. The bacon was soggy and the burger meat are the frozen ones. The lobster roll had no taste at all and quite dry. The calamari were soggy and tasteless. We will not be returning. Waste of money.

Yelp
It's so fun to do there. It's definitely a "summer" place. Love the low-key vibe and the outdoor seating deck is perfect (as long as it's not chilly and windy). They run out of some options later on in the day so you know everything is fresh!!! Food is honestly solid. Fresh. Nothing great though the casual summer vibe is perfect and they have a bar which is great. You stand on line to order. They call your number....great for kids. Limited options but everything you could need for the seafood and non-seafood folks.

Damian D.

Yelp
Your basic shore seafood shack, with enough choices for those shy of fish and other seafood. The food can be uneven; fried food great one time and 'meh' on another. Not cheap for what you get.

Carlos A.

Yelp
Steamers were great and served with the super salty cooking liquid which was a a pleasant surprise. Lobster roll was solid.

Jim J.

Yelp
Pathetic. They jacked the prices way up. They run out of stuff that comes with the meal and don't tell you and still charge the same inflated price. When complaining to the staff they cop an attitude. We are so done with this place. Wouid give zero stars if possible. Avoid this place at ALL costs.

Hiba A.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time and absolutely loved it! We got the hot butter lobster rolls and we all loved it! The portion size was very generous. The fries that came with the roll were kind of awful though. The crab dip was delicious, served with warm bread. I wish we had come earlier in the day as the place is right on the water with a large outdoor deck with seating. They had live music and a grassy area with lawn games. The staff was friendly and efficient. Would def come back

Maria B.

Yelp
Love this place! Casual outdoor dining with the raw bar is wonderful. Every time I feel like seafood, this is always the place I think of. If it wasn't so far from me I would be here every month! I went there last weekend and the steamers are my favorite, so good! The raw clams were fresh and the fried seafood is crispy and not oily at all. Makes me want to go there now, yum!

Franny F.

Yelp
The food is amazing and the same quality as bahrs next store! I love the fast service and beautiful views of the river! Favorite place to go in the summer! No wait time and high quality seafood

Malikah M.

Yelp
If you want good, fresh, seafood without the fanfare of a restaurant with a wait staff, look no further. This gem has a nice outdoor deck with ample seating. The beer is cold and watching the boats come in and our provides a restful atmosphere with delicious food.

Wilmer Z.

Yelp
I actually don't know why I keep coming here... I guess is because I'm so hungry by the time I leave the beach that I find this place very convenient but the service is low and the food is really below average

Christina G.

Yelp
The lobster Cobb salad was delicious. The service was good. Staff was very friendly. Definitely will go back

Yelp
everything about this restaurant makes it the perfect place for a casual, satisfying meal after a day at the beach... or any day for that matter!! my family and i have been coming here for decades and it never disappoints! i believe that this is a part of the Bahr's family association but it's very unique from the main restaurant. it's only open during the nicer summer months and completely outdoors. another cool part about this spot is that most of their staff are college kids who work there to raise funds for college. they are all so sweet, attentive, and animated. when you're going, make sure to get extra fries and coleslaw! they are staples and personally i like putting them together- makes the BEST combo! they used to give more fries in a serving but now they have unfortunately became more stingy with them. they are sooo good though! always hot, crispy on the outside and light and fluffy inside. and for mains, i always go for the fisherman's platter, grilled salmon, and shrimps on the raw from the bar. their dishes never disappoint and are always fresh and cooked to perfection!!

Yelp
Moby's Lobster Deck is typically a positive experience for me. You have to keep your expectations in check. Simply put, this is super casual waterfront dining, a la picnic tables, rustic wood deck, a help yourself sort of place. Raw clams, a better-than-average burger and french fries, and a draft beer with waterfront breezes and sun; it doesn't get much better. Yes, the menu has ups and downs, some items are so-so, and some are on the pricey side. But if you have plans for an easy waterfront spot for a raw clam bar, this place will satisfy your needs. Just watch out for the super-aggressive seagulls hovering overhead!

Constance D.

Yelp
The food was delicious and atmosphere casual and easy. Food was ready quickly and good value! Will definitely go again, loved it was dog friendly and cocktails delicious too!

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Second time back was kinda disappointing!! Lobster rolls were smaller and clam chowder was probably at the bottom of the barrel, it was all broth no substance. Kinda sad about this because I had such a good experience the first time.

Alyse A.

Yelp
Ordered two lobster rolls and a burger. $80 later. The lobster rolls are literally served on hot dog buns. And not even good fresh ones. Very little lobster. More tomato and lettuce. The fries were good, but there weren't enough of them to be considered a serving.

James L.

Yelp
Fantastic local take out joint. Been going here since 1987. The wifey dined on a lobster roll, which I might add, was very light on mayo and just the proper amount of celery. I enjoyed the fried cod fillet with Manhattan Clam Chowder and we split a crab cake, sans bun. Food was super fresh prepared to order and delicious. Window girls were pleasant and pets allowed! Not cheap but worth every penny.

Jillian P.

Yelp
We love this little clam shack! Their food is delicious, their clams are fresh and their drink selections are surprisingly great for a little shack. I love their frozen drink options! We've never been disappointed going here. Love being able to sit outdoors on the water while eating fresh seafood. Their prices are extremely reasonable compared to the other places in town

Yelp
PLEASE STAY AWAY! FROM THIS PLACE!! Amazing location I was expecting piece of fresh fish to grab . It was Tuesday afternoon I was the only customer with my doughter , ordered crab cake with fries . Crab cake look like tiny paddy nothing to do with real crab cake served evrywhere else, but the worse was smell kind off rotten fish . After first bite I could not stand it and took it back to kitchen , I asked nicley if they have anything fresh. They offered fried cod . 3 minutes later I got my half raw fried cod . We did not a risk to even try, I have shredded it in pices to show the chef and returned back on the counter . I was just so disappointed. I did not even bother to have my money back , we just left and decided to have proper dinner when we get home .On my way back home called the place and spoke with manager , there was not simple apology , he said that all they serve is frozen food exept salmon , after all he hunged up on me . Stay away or you fall at risk to poison your familly . I just hope that customers will leave and they get bankrupt one of these days . It is my first that bad expierience ever at the shore !!! I love seafood restaurants they are pleabty great places just not that one , please pass and never even stop to waiste time to try . I have not any intrest here besides my own and any customer who deserve the best service for the money

Yelp
I'm a big fan of this place for their atmosphere and food. Though you will pay a little more than you expect for a lunch or dinner on a "deck," it's set up like a snack bar so there's no need to tip a server. They have a bar, great seafood selection (I'm a fan of their soft shell crab sandwich), and they offer land lover meals too. It's very family friendly and the seating area is set completely outdoors, with a part of it set under an awning for those not willing to sit out in the sunlight. The view of the water and Sandy Hook isn't the most glamorous you'll ever get but it's super relaxing nonetheless. Overall, it's a great place to take the family or friends for a nice lunch or early dinner during the summer. Don't feel like a full beach day? Grab food at Moby's!

Tracy S.

Yelp
First time visiting the Atlantic Highlands and won't be the last. I will be back to Moby's for sure many more times now that I found this place. Order your food, walk up a few steps to the bar and grab a drink and finally a few more steps to the patio deck seating with amazing views of the NYC skyline, as well as looking over to Sandy Hook. Reasonably priced, locally sourced seafood and I'm sold. It was a gorgeous day when we visited and we still got a table on overlooking the water. You can even dock your boat and grab some food! The staff was very friendly, explaining everything and giving wonderful recommendations. And the best part, on the side is the ice cream part! It shares a parking lot with Bahr's Landing so I imagine it's hard to find parking on weekends and around dinner time. The crab cake sandwich and clam strip platter was the perfect amount of food for two! Can't wait to go back!

Germane T.

Yelp
I feel like they're better than ever! Recently went back for the first time this season and the clams and oysters were amazing! Nothing's changed here except they've added a little more space between tables.

Tony T.

Yelp
The standard fried seafood plates are available as well as cold beer. Not much else you can ask for on a warm sunny day near the beach! We rode here on bicycles and were able to chain the bikes close to the restaurant. The food is fine. Crab cakes were good. They give a lot of fries!

John B.

Yelp
Do not waste your money eating here. Groton or Mrs Paul's fish stick would have been 5 stars compared to the cod served. The clams on the half shell were ground up and gritty. Guess the shucked didn't know what he was doing. when I told him about the clams he said "Oh OK". The Tatar sauce was just mayo with a few green shavings in it. Should have gotten the Fish fillet at Micky D.

Ed M.

Yelp
The lobster roll was not very tasty. It lacked freshness and had no substance. I may come back for a burger.

Zuma B.

Yelp
This place is marginal at best and very overpriced. I've been there a few times, mostly in a pinch. Stopped there last week hoping that their lobster roll would be OK but what a disappointment. Extremely small for the price, and more lettuce on the bun than lobster. The French fries served with it seemed like the bottom of the barrel - all small pieces. Will not go back again.

Glenda L.

Yelp
This is a good quick spot to go after a long day at the beach. Good fried seafood and decent lobster rolls. The French fries are delish! Beer served too. Best of all, the view is amazing. Worth the visit!!

Diana B.

Yelp
Low quality food. Good was cold. Portions way to small for the price. Will not come back and recommending anyone who likes quality see food to go somewhere else.

Mel M.

Yelp
HIGHLANDS: Moby's Lobster Deck & Ice Cream is a unique restaurant in that all the dining tables are outside with options to be under the sun, umbrellas or wooden canopy. Order at the "snackbar," then wait for your number to be called to pick up your food/drinks. You can also get ice cream! Relax and enjoy the views of the Shrewsbury river, Sandy Hook, and the Route 36 bridge.

Sam G.

Yelp
Lobster Deck? Nawwww!! SO disappointed!! We heard this place was owned by Bahrs, which we frequent, so when Bahrs was super busy on Saturday afternoon when we wanted lobster rolls, we thought why not sit next door, should be the same food, right? Wrong! I'll start with the good, nice location with great view of the water on the deck, they have a full bar, pricey, but hey you're at the water with drink in hand, you're gonna pay for that. The teen taking our order was indifferent not rude just 'there'. Bartender said goodbye, have a nice day when we left other than that, no interaction with staff. You place your order, they call your number over a loud speaker and you go up and get it. The clam strips were crisp and tasty with some nice big pieces, would have been great if they could spare the lemon, one tiny piece for a platter of clams is cheesy. They get two stars for view and clams. The hot dog was large, don't know what kind but S bit into it and there was a bone in it ewww, Im not a hot fog eater usually but that sounds like some pretty crappy dogs they are using and if that happened to me I think it would make me sick, but he ate it anyway lol..Fries were pretty good as well, kids liked them. Now I will say the prices are the same as Bahrs, I even purposefully checked that the lobster roll was the same price, but thats where the similarities ended. This "lobster roll" is an embarrassment to the owners, DO NOT waste your money when right next door you can get one with big chunks of lobster and NO filler. Firstly, it doesn't say anyplace on the menu (see photo) that my tiny hotdog bun will be filled with shredder lettuce (I hate shredded lettuce but that's beside the point) and tomatoes (my Daughter is allergic, so thanks for the heads up) then they put a tiny bit of WAY overly salted shredded lobster salad on top of the pile of lettuce it was so salty like taking a handful of salt and eating it and honestly so shredded up that Im not sure it was even lobster this tiny bit of grossness for $20?!?!? Do yourself a favor and pass on lobster roll..go for a drink, clams and view.

Mike J.

Yelp
The food was good but $7.50 for a cup of beer was a little outrageous and a glass of seltzer water with a little pomegranate juice in it 325 I do not think I will be going back there again the deck was dirty my wife and I had to move to another table because there was gum on the bench I've gone to this place many times in the past and it was always good and reasonable but it looks like they're riding the covid horse a little too much a barrel of beer doesn't cost that much to justify one cup of beer and a plastic cup for 750. My wife went over to the condiment bar and nearly slipped on ketchup that was on the floor and I also noticed that the steps leading up to the deck will very much in need of repair soft floors and although I am not disabled I didn't notice any ramps to get up to the deck which I believe is in New Jersey law under the Ada hope their insurance is paid up

Deb M.

Yelp
I am really trying to be fair with this review so here it goes. My husband and I stopped in today and got the fried shrimp basket along with a platter. I think it was called the festival platter? But I'm not sure. It had scallops, a crabcake, and clam strips. I also ordered a mango margarita. The margarita were amazing. The food however was a different story. When we got the platter, there was a 3 inch wide crabcake that was about the thickness of a pencil. It did have a decent amount of shredded crab in it but wasn't very flavorful. The scallops were fried, very juicy and sweet. I think we got four of them along with a handful of fried clam strips and another handful of french fries. All served on a paper plate. This platter was $25. In my opinion I should've gotten more for my money. I totally could've done without the french fries and I would've taken two more scallops in their place. I might come back here another time to try something else however Bahrs is right next-door so I might end up going there before hand LOL!

Jedsada Y.

Yelp
After a long day at Sandy Hook, you may need to place to hang out and refresh. Moby's is located right by the new bridge with shared ample parking with Bahrs. They offer combo of lobster, mussels, steamers and corns for $33. Actually that's not bad of a price, but we decided to get Large Lobster Rolls ($19) and a cup of New England Clam Chowder. While waiting for our order, we moved on to the bar. We ordered Frozen Piña Cola, half order of Steamers and half a dozen of Oysters. Piña Colada was a little weak; however, the steamers and oyster were clean and fresh. Finally, we got called for our order. We proceeded to the deck in the back. The deck is pretty spacious overlooked the Sandy Hook Bay. It was kind of serene actually despite how crowded. Definitely a great spot to hang out! I agree with previous review about how staff hate their jobs. Money doesn't grow on tree, so if you expect good tip, you're gonna need to work a little harder for it. Dang, I forgot to try the wheat beer from the bar!

Kitty G.

Yelp
Disappointing. Came here off-season, in October, one would expect to not be ripped off and taking advantage of. The chef must've thought that we were on a diet!! Or maybe they just thought that we ordered a half a portion lol. The deck area for outdoor dining is spectacular for a dive. The staff was friendly, and they offer local brews. Other patrons that we spoke to seem to be satisfied, maybe try the lobster roll, but whatever you do, be warned, do not order calamari (although the marinara sauce that came with it was very good)

Brad A.

Yelp
Cool place to sit outside and watch the world go by. Kinda self serve they call your name when your food is ready. Food was good

Violet V.

Yelp
Portions are too small for the prices Portions have been reduced considerably since last year while prices have increased

Sara G.

Yelp
Great outdoor seating, good ice cream and fries, friendly staff. The lobster roll was mediocre at best, sadly....

Tom K.

Yelp
Great place for a fantastic lobster role This our goto place for a lobster role. The outdoor dining is spot on and you beat the views.

John M.

Yelp
Awesome steamers and seafood on the deck at Moby's. Great views and casual setting. Bonus points for having a special Carton beer on tap!

Lindsey C.

Yelp
Wasn't bad! We stopped in here while boating, as they have a dock you can land at and walk up to the restaurant. It was the traditional lame beach-type service from a pack of 14 year olds for sure, but the food was not as bad as I was expecting. I had clam strips sandwich and fries, which were both better than they had any right to be, as well as freshly fried. The staff at the counter did seem very clueless and were not able to answer super obvious questions, but that's neither here nor there. They apparently have beer, but the staff, being under-age, need a bartender to get the beer (fair enough) but they don't know what beers there are, nor can they answer when I asked, nor could they find someone who COULD, but they could get someone to get me a beer if I knew what I wanted already? Weird stuff.

Paul M.

Yelp
My first ever "1" star review!!! Rating is for the Ice Cream Window... Ice cream is the biggest rip off... "Single scoop" isn't even 1/2 a scoop and they charge $3.50!!! Stay away... $3.50 for 1/2 a scoop of Blue Bunny ice cream??? I think the kids that work here don't care, the management doesn't care or both. No thanks!!

Tony V.

Yelp
THE VIEW. Best I can say. Bar food at it's simplest. I had the soft shell crab sandwich came with fries hohum. The local beer on tap I have to say was good especially on a hot day. So if you want no hassle fast food, beer and a great view. Here it is.

Alec L.

Yelp
Overpriced, terrible steamers and oysters. Only college kids working, no manager to even complain to. Half the streamers ($20) weren't open

S.Pavlik N.

Yelp
I Had the unfortunate experience of dining here today. I ordered shrimp. The kid at the bar area (where for some reason is where the shrimp is prepared) grabbed a handful of shrimp, shuffled through them, counted them and dropped some on a plate. WITH HIS BARE HANDS!!!!!!!! When I told him I didn't want it, he replied "oh you want me to wear gloves?" This is a MAJOR health code violation!!! ESPECIALLY in the middle of a Pandemic with COVID!!! Not to mention absolutely Disgusting!! My friend paid for her meal and the same kid rung her up and took her change and put it in the tip jar, never bothering to offer her back her change! DO NOT EAT HERE!!!! They are not complying with Normal health code regulations with handling food, let alone CDC regulations during a pandemic! Absolutely Disgusting!

Robert B.

Yelp
Today was the 2nd and last time I will come here. I ordered the tuna platter. The tuna was inedible. It was frozen like the kind you can buy in shoprite in the frozen foods section. I asked when ordering if the tuna was fresh and the girl said it was. For the prices they charge, they should give you better fish and be honest about it too.

Frank S.

Yelp
I just spent $80 on a take out meal for the family. If you advertise a seafood platter($27) it shouldn't be 3/4 French fries. $17 clam basket was a tiny portion of tasteless soggy (frozen) bread. Not a clam in sight. Tiny portions, overpriced, tasteless. Heading out for dinner now!

Steve Y.

Yelp
Wow this place is the jam! Fair priced FRESH seafood, affordable drinks and a great outside deck. Oh and you can see NYC. PS the BBQ sauce is amazing

Alex G.

Yelp
This place was absolutely horrible. Ordered the food the wait was fine. The calamari had no breading on it and the little it had on it fell off within seconds of picking the actual calamari up. The lobster rolls.... Let's just say I'd rather eat Wawa which is right down the road from them. It had lettuce and tomatoes on it. Absolutely throwing off the flavor of the main part, lobster. The rolls were store bought. Potato store bought rolls. Big yikes.... Also the cocktail sauce was a disgusting ketchup and horseradish rip off. Please don't visit this place. Don't give them money. The owner needs to understand that their fuck ups shouldn't be tolerated when I spent 70 dollars for calamari that was rubbery and a lobster roll.

Kenneth L.

Yelp
Stopped off after fishing . Ordered clam strip sandwich. Nice staff, wait was ok. Got the sandwich.. small portion, hardly covered the roll. What i got was tasty.. just not enough.

Wesley M.

Yelp
This place is awesome. If you are looking for good seafood, outdoor waterside seating, and good value, then visit Moby's. It's in the same lot as Bahr's, but a lot more casual. You order your food and alcohol at different counters and when your order is ready then they call you by number. It was a bit nerve racking today since it was chilly and breezy, but just remember that they're actually cooking your food fresh so it might take a few minutes before your order comes out. People that arrived after us that ordered burgers and hot dogs got their food pretty quickly. We ordered the fisherman's sampler (1lb lobster, shrimp, scallops, and clam strips w/ fries) and another clam strip platter (w/ fries) so the order took a little longer, but it was so worth it. The food is fresh, moist, and crispy yet tender. We will visit every time we are in the northern Jersey Shore area :)

Jess S.

Yelp
The qualms which many Yelpers seem to have with this spot are valid, but I would encourage them to be mindful of the sort of establishment Moby's is. Its snackbar atmosphere is casual and in turn, offers a relaxing experience. The young staff does a good job from what I've seen. I was shocked by the shucking abilities the college-aged raw bar employee yielded. They are clearly trained. The oysters ($2.25 ea.) were fresh and tasty, but what set them apart was the house-made cocktail sauce. I couldn't get enough. The rough shrimp ($7.99 for 6) were good, too. They were out of soft shell crabs which was the main reason I took the ride. It worked out quite well, as it gives me another excuse to return. The crab cake sandwich ($14.99) I settled for was not heavily ridden with bread and had good flavor. The rolls were eh, but this is minor; the seafood shines regardless. My brother's lobster roll ($19.99) was packed to the point of overflow which is a wonderful "problem" to have. The price was a bit steep, but diners will know why after their first or second bite, I'm sure. All of the dishes boasted freshness and quality and the ambiance offers accessibility and a fantastic view of Sandy Hook and beyond that, New York City. I'll likely be back within the next few weeks for the soft shell crab which I like to accredit as the raison d'etre of Moby's locale popularity.
