Mochinut Review - Near West Side - Chicago - The Infatuation

"This Near West Side donut shop is part of a Hawaiian-based chain with locations across the country. And though chains are usually hit-or-miss, their mochi donuts are great. Mochinut’s rice flour base means they have a stretchy, sticky interior and a crispy exterior. There are over 20 to choose from, but the savory and fruity flavors complement the dough more than the straight-up sweet ones. So go for the black sesame, matcha, or mango." - John Ringor

Mochinut Review - South Lake Union - Seattle - The Infatuation

"If you’re a fan of mochi, chances are you’ve heard of Mochinut. This SLU shop located in the lobby of 400 Fairview specializes in chewy fried donut rings made of rice flour (but note that they aren’t gluten-free). With toppings ranging from cinnamon sugar to matcha glaze, they’re not the best donuts in town, but still a decent option should you find yourself in the neighborhood craving a sweet, or feel like being the office hero by grabbing a dozen." - Aimee Rizzo

Mochinut Review - East Village - New York - The Infatuation

"This chain is in more than half the states in this country, which means we’re not the only fans. The Japanese-style doughnuts here are made with 95% rice flour and 5% wheat flour, which results in doughnuts that have subtly crispy outsides and soft and chewy centers. With more than 20 different colorful varieties (matcha, black sesame, and peanut butter, for example), you’ll have no trouble finding a few you’ll like. Our go-tos are the coconut and the original. Mochinut also has bubble tea and hot dogs encrusted with things like Hot Cheetos and tiny cubes of fried potatoes. photo credit: Emily Schindler" - Kenny Yang

Mochinut Review - Old City - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Mochi donuts are puffier than most donuts. Since they’re made with rice flour, they’re slightly healthier and naturally gluten-free. These are the facts we tell ourselves when we have the urge to order two or 10 of them from this Old City donut shop. Whether you go with chocolate, ube-glazed, strawberry funnel, or churro, you’ll bite into something that will make you feel as good as warm sunshine. If you’re looking for a light breakfast that’s not another bowl of granola, a donut and matcha tea is the way to go." - Candis R. McLean

I really enjoyed my Mochi donut! Dubai chocolate is all the craze now and it was so good in the form of mochi donut lol. The boba was very sweet and tasty too! It has a unique can top that you open that adds to the charm! The seating is comfy and it is family friendly. The owner is so kind and helpful too! Great spot.

Google
Very cute shop with a weekly rotating selection of donut flavors and 20+ flavors of boba. The staff was extremely friendly and helped me pick out my flavors and they did not disappoint. I got the guava berry mochinut which was really delicious, sweet and a bit tart. And the lavender matcha boba which was perfectly balanced. I can’t wait to come back and try the hot Cheetos corn dog!

Google
some of the BEST Boba in Chicago. I’ve tried a fair amount of boba around the city and have had it where it originated in Taiwan, but mochinut has become one of my fave places to get boba. It’s perfectly sweet, great boba and not watery like some places. This is the place to go! And it comes in the cutest containers!

Google
Stepping inside this place makes you happy because they have great art and vibes on walls. Staff is very friendly and helpful with what they like. Food presentation is good. The mochinuts are hit or miss. I think they would be better and more like funnel cake if served hot. Some flavors way better than others. The hot dogs were OK. The macha was good. Overall if you’re a fan of mochi then you’ll prob like this place, I prefer traditional donuts and hot dogs more.

Finally made it to Mochinut's newest location in Lincoln Park. The moment you walk in you it gives you a happy feeling. Love the bright colors and flowers murals on the wall and the happy faces of the staff. I had pre ordered a dozen donuts for Super Bowl and they were ready for me when I went to pick them up. The donuts looked and tasted amazing. While at the store we also tried the Thai tea and Korean Rice hot dog . The Thai tea was flavorful and refreshing. The hot dogs were amazing , we tried the potatoes and hot Cheetos one and enjoyed them both. They have a nice selection of mochi donuts, and I love that they are so light, fluffy and not overly sweet. Some of the mochinut flavors we tried were Churro, Ube, and Chocolate . Each of them was a 10/10 for me. Can't wait to go back and try the other flavors soon.

The mochi donut makes the perfect dessert! My girlfriend & I went back in early August, & our favorites were lavender white chocolate & original!

Yelp
Gorgeous pastries with unique and delicious flavors. I got the raspberry white chocolate and the churro Mochinuts. Highly recommend! The gal that checked me out was so friendly and made lots of good suggestions for where else to explore in Old Town. Can't wait to come back soon.

Yelp
I absolutely love mochi-donuts! The texture is always so soft and pillowy. I also love how you're able to pull off 1 bite at a time. I tried the Dorito-crusted beef corndog with spicy mayo. The hotdog was HUGE and the Doritos were surprisingly still crunchy. There was a lot of sauce on the dog, so it was difficult to eat it in 1 sitting because it was so rich. The flavor however was very good. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I also love that this location has a 15min parking w/hazard lights zone directly in front of it. It makes it incredibly easy to pull over, run in, and grab your food. I will return! #ImNotAFoodie #ImJustAGirlWhoLovesFood #YelpEliteSquad

Yelp
Came here after dinner with my friends love this place! Came here for one donut it was worth it though. They were closing but still let me in the owner was so nice and so creative in the inside. Will be back for more!

Yelp
Love everything about Mochinut! This shop has been on my radar for awhile, and I finally had the chance to try their innovative menu at a recent popup event. The staff was super friendly and patient, and there were so many unique flavors of the viral Japanese donut that it was hard not to buy one of each! I opted for the blueberry lemon, and it's the best mochi donut I've had in Chicago. Although slightly chewy as expected, it had all the light airiness of a traditional raised donut and was the perfect sweetness. The blueberry frosting balanced very well with the lemon and the donut was very fresh. Can't recommend enough, and I'm looking forward to paying the shop a visit soon!

Yelp
I ordered the half hot dog and half cheese corn dog. The cashier was very nice and took my order. The corn dog took a bit longer to receive but it was still nice and hot. There was a lot of hot cheetos dust on mine and I really liked that. The place had a really fun and unique style with a lot of colorful designs.

Yelp
Cute little joint sells mochi donuts, bubble tea and Korean corn dogs. They have all the donuts on display which really draws you in! It's easy to order a whole box to take home and the way the donuts are shaped also makes it easy to share. The bubble tea offerings aren't as customizable as your more typical joints (aka, decreasing the sugar content) so it's not a place I'd come to just for tea. Didn't try the corn dogs but others around me seemed to enjoy. There's only street parking which can be a little tricky depending on when you come. Overall cute place to try and fill a mochi donut craving. Check their website for the donut flavors since they rotate year round!

Yelp
I absolutely adore this place. Whenever we're in this area we stop by. The ownership/ staff is beyond lovely and welcoming, offering to customize and create what you need. The fun part is they switch their flavors weekly so you can keep coming back. The guava one I had this morning was divine, last time banana coconut was just as delicious.

Yelp
Great place! Great donuts ! Love from China and UIUC. I personally believe these are potentially a Taiwanese or Chinese street food favorite. I heard NYC is doing Chinese night markets. Hopefully Chicago & Chinatown follow suit too!
google avatar

Yelp
This was a delivery. I tried 6 donuts. I like the glazed the best. The other flavors were a just ok this time around, but they change all the time. I do love the texture.
google avatar

Yelp
First time stopping in today. Greeted by staff right away. Very nice. For three donuts (vanilla gaze, matcha, and caramel funnel cake). Delicious! Was about $11 when all was said and done (including tax and tip). I'll definitely go back and plan to "dine " next time (and try their boba tea!).

Yelp
Cute little spot with very friendly employees! I ordered an ube donut, 1/2 hotdog + 1/2 cheese potato corndog, and 1/2 matcha + 1/2 milk tea boba. I loved that I could really taste the ube flavor of the donut! As for the corndog, I was expecting cheese to be surrounding the hotdog. Instead, the first half of the corndog was cheese and the second half was a hotdog. Nonetheless it tasted great. The potatoes on the outside were nice and crispy! I enjoyed my drink and the boba itself had the perfect consistency of chewyness and softness. I do wish there was a way to change the sugar level of the drink. The flavors are premade mixes so you can't change its contents. I also found it odd that they put ice cubes in their boba drinks. I've been to a lot of boba places throughout the country and this is the first time I've ever had ice in my cup. I feel like it just took up unnecessary space in the cup and I would have rather had more to drink.

Yelp
I love swinging by here, it is the perfect stop on the way home from the beach. Fresh mochinuts (donuts made out of mochi) with fun seasonal flavors, boba, and rice hot dogs. Stopped by before Xmas and got some fun holiday flavors - peppermint matcha, ube crinkle, and egg nog.
google avatar

Yelp
Mochinut is all the craze and if you are in the Lincoln Park now you get yours in your area!! Are you into Boba? How are corn dogs covered in Hot Cheetos? Ummmm yea they have all that here too! There are cute art work and murals to take pictures and seating so you can enjoy your food. Corn dogs are made to order so it's hot and fresh! Service was friendly and fast! Boba Flavors: Milk Tea, Matcha, Thai Tea, Ube and Coffee Latte! Made to Order Hot Dog Flavors: Original, Half & Half, Mozzarella, Potato and Hot Cheetos!

Yelp
Fun flavors and cute packaging. Donuts were fresh and good. Looked for a bit chewier texture and more donut in general for about $4 per donut and you can only order a minimum of 3 when you do DoorDash. The strawberry donut was a bit lacking von flavor w a tiny bit of confectioners sugar and little pieces of dried strawberries. I wished there were icing on it. Otherwise a good mochi donut experience. We had lychee, black sesame, and strawberry.

Yelp
Already feeling happy once I step inside. Walls are decorated with beautiful bright colors. These donuts are aesthetically presented and are so good and addicted. They are light and airy but most importantly not too sweet, chewy on the outside yet very moist and flavorful. You wont stop at 1! Staffs are amazing people! Would definitely come back more often for these sweet fun treats!
google avatar

Yelp
Nice staff! Yummy donuts! Love it and will always be back! The vanilla donuts are my favorite!
google avatar

Yelp
Churro donut was so good. Ube bubble tea was also extremely tasty. The staff was very nice. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Highly recommend the Vietnamese coffee with the pearls. 10/10. Owner is so nice and welcoming. Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Very cool concept of frying the mochi dough however I had higher expectations. Why not fill them or offer toppings?
google avatar

Yelp
Fun new spot. The boba tea comes in a can which I actually love so you can take it and have it later. Donuts were really tasty and came in a bunch of different flavors. Cute place to hang out for a little also they have some seating.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
Such a cute Mochinut location! They have seating in the front and back. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I love that they have boba now - served in cute cans.

Yelp
I had my first mochi doughnut back during my honeymoon in Hawaii, a trip full of great and amazing food I just couldn't easily find in the mainland. Aloha Eats covers much of my cravings, I still can't find an authentic poke bowl, I assume shaved ice wouldn't do too well in Chicago, and I couldn't find a good mochi doughnut. I had one from an independent baker and discovered just how easy it is to mess them up - done wrong and they're just too chewy and flavorless. They're getting popular in many places now. It's just fun to separate them into little sweet balls, and their flavors are often Asian inspired which definitely calls out to me. Enter Mochinut, a California based franchise with a few spots that have opened up here in Chicago - this one is the newest. We didn't get to try the Korean hot dogs since we came from lunch, but we had to try some doughnuts. Apparently their flavors rotate weekly, but we got to try cookies & creme, chocolate churro, and matcha (at my wife's insistence). I was surprised with the depth of the flavors here, I was expecting just sweet sweet sweet (or in the case of matcha, too much of that grassy note). Instead it was just the right amount of cinnamon on the churro, and nice chocolatey bits in the cookies & creme. Texture-wise they didn't disappoint, definitely not having the toughness I found in the doughnut from that other baker. They had a good bite to them and satisfyingly poppable. Will definitely need to come back to try out their Korean hot dogs and other flavors. Very cool addition to the area!

Yelp
visited on the grand opening day! i got the ube fluff and cookies & cream mochinuts but i got to try other flavors like tiramisu and caramel funnel cake thanks to my friends. my husband got the ube boba tea so i got a sip of that as well. ube fluff (4/5): basically ube flavored marshmallow glaze, probs my favorite one of the day! cookies & cream (4/5): also good, pretty standard cookies and cream flavor. caramel funnel cake (3/5): could taste the funnel cake but not the caramel. tiramisu (4/5): actually tasted like tiramisu! ube boba tea (4.5/5): this was so good. strong ube taste. the tapioca balls had good texture but they were bland. i would get this again without the tapioca. overall, the mochinut texture was way better than the UIC location so i enjoyed all of the mochinuts regardless of the different flavors. the workers were also all very friendly. however, i do want to point out an incident that i hope doesn't happen moving forward. i didn't say anything at the time because there was a line but a customer before us had ordered a raspberry mochinut but was given an ube fluff instead. he later brought it back to the cashier who then put that ube fluff to the side and got him the raspberry. since i was after him and ordered the ube fluff, i ended up getting the one he accidentally got. my husband told me that it looked like he never opened it which is fine but moving forward i hope the workers don't re-hand out an item another customer could've potentially touched...for sanitary reasons. the cashier hadn't even confirmed the customer if it was opened or not. seating wise, they have some at the front and some at the back. maybe could fit 15-20 people total?
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
After seeing a bunch of foodies go to their soft launch, I was highly influenced to check them out myself. The service is amazing however I was somewhat underwhelmed with their donuts. I got the orange cranberry and although the dough was nice and bouncy, the sugar glaze on top was not fun to eat. It felt like eating taffy that gets stuck in your teeth. Also lacking any sort of orange or cranberry flavor. Maybe I came on an off day or got the wrong flavor but not sure it's worth it for me to make another trip out.
google avatar

Precious B.

Yelp
I think the corn dogs are good but the mochinuts are overly hyped! I bought a turtle cheesecake mochinut and it was extremely soggy, overly sweetened and not very good at all. I had to change my rating to three stars because of that; I want to give nothing but my honest reviews and not exaggerate the hype.
google avatar

Minh P.

Yelp
Pretty solid! You can get 3 mochi donuts for $10.00 or one for $3.75. Not a terrible deal, but not cheap. Definitely more than you'd pay for most wheat donuts. I probably couldn't justify getting Mochinut more than every once in a while. It's something to eat for fun. I had their seasonal minty shamrock flavor and it was good. I liked the texture of the icing and that they had many flavors available. My friend got a Matcha boba for $6 and thought it was solid. I don't think either of us were blown away, but I think their main selling point is the novelty, and they deliver on that. The donut was chewy and tasty. The folks were nice and it was relatively fast. The store's not huge and neither is the staff, so there's a chance you'd need to wait in line if lots of people come in at the same time as you. The ambiance was cool. The store is very small and quaint; it's cute. There is bright pop art on the walls and the packaging and whole layout of the store is very pleasant and modern. There are tables in the front and along the side. My friends and I enjoyed sitting and chatting here and the time passed by with ease. There is also one bathroom in the back and it's pretty solid too. No real bones to pick. Mochinut delivers exactly what you'd expect.
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
Had multiple flavors and customer service was pretty good. The donut is pretty filling so I would only get one. I also got a brown sugar bubble tea that was pretty good but there's not much liquid in it because they put a lot of ice. Also, the price is a little expensive, but would recommend. Ambiance is very colorful.
google avatar

Yelp
We had these delivered for a work birthday and everyone was obsessed! There was a hiccup with the order and Sandy reached out personally to help correct things. 10 out of 10! Must check them out!
google avatar

Anna T.

Yelp
Came here today and it is so cute! Got the matcha boba and the potato dog half and half. The wait for these two items was pretty long (15 minutes) it seems like a grab and go, but maybe they are just adjusting to opening. The matcha is good, a little too sweet, but I'm sure you could get it less sweet. The potato dog is fantastic!! The perfect level of crispiness and the cheese pull is soooo good! Also got a side of spicy mayo! I need to come back and try a donut!
google avatar

NaywriChi W.

Yelp
Ahh! This used to be Philly Bros., remember that? This is the fourth location in the state and the second location here. Had the Mozzarella Corn Dog with some Chipotle sauce and the Ube Milk Tea. The dog was superb but the milk tea was too sweet. I haven't been to the others so this is my first time, ahh! Staff and service is Mochitastic! With the teas you can't alter the sweetness. So it's fixed. PS. There going to open four locations in the Chicago Area next year.
google avatar

Marie S.

Yelp
Staff here is rude and unapologetic when they forget about your order. First and last time visiting!
google avatar

Ila I.

Yelp
SUCH a great donut!! I'm not a donut person, but these donuts were amazing - the texture, flavors, and taste were seriously amazing. I got the pistachio cranberry, and my boyfriend got the dark chocolate. Note: they have weekly flavors so the ones we got may not be there. But seriously, you cannot go wrong with any of them. The staff member was friendly and explained the concept of mochinut as we had never been to one before. Cool coffee shop vibe that would be great if you're trying to find a place to get some work done too. I will definitely be going back :)
google avatar

Daneih I.

Yelp
We tried the donuts and the the hotdogs. For me the hotdogs were great. We tried the original half & half, ramen, Cheetos half & half, and potato half & half. The donuts were ok and nice to try it but definitely going back for the hotdogs.
google avatar

Trinh L.

Yelp
I know there are multiple Mochinut location in Illinois, but this is the BEST ONE! The owner is a perfectionist and does not skimp on the quality. This is the only location that adds yuzu slices on their yuzu mochi donut. They're also the only one that uses freeze dried strawberries for their strawberry shortcake mochi donut. They had their soft opening this past Friday and we've been back every single day. Definitely a great addition to Lincoln Park.
google avatar

SaDonna H.

Yelp
The donuts are so cute and you get a different flavor every time. They are not overly sweet. The cheese dogs are the best.

Kazhandra S.

Yelp
The boba tea was so good, i tried the matcha one and it was great. to me it has the perfect amount of sweetness, the mochi donuts looked amazing and the food in general is just really great, the service was good and the cashier was kind and took my order quickly. the place was so cute and has a comfortable atmosphere but just a little squishy but it's fine.

Lisa W.

Yelp
I've ordered a dozen Mochinuts for pickup 4 times now and not only is everyone in the Fullerton store helpful and welcoming, but the donuts are delicious and an office favorite. Everyone wants them when we're celebrating a birthday and they are truly a treat! Please open a location in Avondale!
google avatar

Anastasiya K.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Mochinut. I had a chocolate mint donut and a Thai tea. The Thai tea was flavorful and not overly sweet. I also really liked the branded pull top container they served it in, very cute! The donut was okay and not come thing I would go out of my way to order. They are made with rice flour and have a chewier texture, which I really liked. My only complaint is that the donut itself doesn't have much flavor and the topping was the overpowering flavor.

Jazmin P.

Yelp
Really good service and the food is so delicious. Donuts a bit pricy for the dozen but they're not your typical donut. Totally worth it!
google avatar

Katty D.

Yelp
Legit the treat that satisfies all my kiddos. Love anything citrus - Guava is my #1 and Ube bubble tea. My daughter loves matcha, my son loves anything plain, and my other daughter loves the potato corn dogs with cheese!!
google avatar

Andrew Z.

Yelp
I like these better than cake donuts. They have a chewy bite that i really enjoy and they're not too sweet. They're just a biiiitttt expensive but I do find myself coming back a lot.
google avatar

Review R.

Yelp
Ordered 6 donuts, 2 hotdogs and boba. Took them 20 mins to come out with hotdogs at which point the lady was carrying a large number of orders. Our hotdogs were cold and greasy. They gave us mozzarella instead of the hotdog that we order which only added to the greasiness. It was inedible and not worth waiting another 20 mins to correct. Donuts were good but a bit greasier than the ones I remember in Japan. Boba was juice bought from Mariano's. Had high hopes for this place but won't be back.

Bailey R.

Yelp
I went there last night and had the best interaction with the owner! Sandy was super kind and sweet and deserves the world!! On top of that the donuts were delicious, and the Ube bubble tea was TO DIE FOR!! Will definitely be returning not only for the food but for the great customer service!! Definitely recommending this place to everyone I know :)

Charles S.

Yelp
Great mochi donuts and Vietnamese coffee! Good variety, great service, and delicious donuts. Nice alternative to your traditional jelly donut!
