"This is the first branch, opened more than 50 years ago by the Pernambuco-born Zé Almeida and famous thanks to his delicious Mocotó. Nowadays, the kitchen is headed by renowned chef Rodrigo Oliveira, who is keeping his father's legacy alive by offering the best of the Sertão region’s cuisine via the motto “made with the eyes on the world and the feet grounded in the Sertão”. The restaurant has retained its relaxed, simple atmosphere, and its fundamental concept is inclusivity, with no focus whatsoever on social or cultural differences. The chef conjures up a menu that ranges from snacks and full portions to traditional dishes and special cocktails which are in perfect harmony with the cuisine here. As well as the highly-sought-after “dadinhos de tapioca”, make sure you try the perfect “carne de sol” cooked on the grill and served with “bottled butter”, and the “moqueca sertaneja” stew, a vegan option full of flavour!" - Michelin Inspector

The 35 Best Restaurants in São Paulo, Brazil | Eater

"José Almeida came to São Paulo from the sertão, a region in northeastern Brazil, and opened Mocotó in 1973. Today his son, chef Rodrigo Oliveira, runs the restaurant, revising traditional sertaneja recipes with modern, inventive touches. His creativity is evident in everything from the iconic mocotó (cow’s foot broth) that gives the restaurant its name, to favada (fava beans cooked with sausage, bacon, and jerked beef). To make the wait more manageable (there’s always a line), order the famous dadinhos de tapioca (cheese curds with tapioca) and one of the 350 cachaças served at the bar. Pro tip: Mocotó is located in Vila Medeiros, a working-class district far from downtown São Paulo, but it’s close to the airport, so consider visiting on your way in or out of the city." - Rafael Tonon

Interview: Alex Atala to Open D.O.M. Hotel in São Paulo | Eater

"A widely regarded São Paulo institution led by Rodrigo Oliveira; its chef is expanding internationally (opening a restaurant in Los Angeles) and is mentioned as a likely collaborator who could operate a restaurant within the new hotel." - Rafael Tonon

The food here is absolutely delicious and full of flavour. The menu is very simple with a small handful of dishes, but they make them well. The food is quite clean too so I was not feeling guilty after my visit. The grape juice they sell is so refreshing and tasty. They also have a range of craft beers to complement the meals.

Real delicious Brazilian food! We had a hard time to order the food because none of the staff spoke English. So not very tourist friendly.

Great option if you don't want to drive all the way to the original Mocoto outlet. Here you can find the most popular dishes in individual portions. Very good food and casual seating area. I highly recommend dishes like Escondidinho and Baião de Dois.
