This is an updated review as of Jan 21st 2024. The original review is down below. The restaurant still looks nice, but the acustics are still bad in there. We're lucky that there was no one else was dinning there last night. That being said, their service was quick and well heard listening to the foods we ordered. This time, we had an order of one Back at the ranch, an order of Afredo noodles with (vegan) chicken added on, and a order Chimichurri Ravioli. Although they served it under 20 minutes, and the food was ok, the portion sises for the food was off. The salad [ Back at the ranch ] had enough food to feed someone, but the Afredo noodles & Chimichurri Ravioli proportions we're too small and unfilling. That being said, the desert proportion for the 24 karrot Cake made up for it. It was the height of a wedding cake slice, but thick as one you'd order at a cafe. Overall, we'd like a bigger portion size. ------------------------------------------- A fully Vegetarian and Vegan restaurant, and a nice one at that although it is a bit loud times due to poor acoustics. After being seated, they took our order about 5 minutes later and gave us a quart of water in a bottle for the table. They served our food about 10 to 15 minutes later, and it was looking very appealing. I had ordered the Pizza Burger, and although it looked deceiving as a normal burger, the marinara sauce and pepperoni made it delicious. My friend ordered the Alchemy Bowl, and although not a large amount, it was just filling enough to leave room for desert. The desert that was served was a Peach Cobbler, and although a bit pricey, it was definitely worth it. Author's note : Trick your meat eating friends into coming here.

You will never know it's Vegan.. the taste is exceptional! I ordered the burger with Gouda, and a side salad.. I'm no longer able to eat red meat for health reasons, but I was craving a juicy, meaty burger. Let me tell you, this hit the spot!! The "meat" was cooked perfectly, and all the fixings were on point. I also ordered a side of onion rings. The burger was definitely the star of the show. Thank you Modern Shaman.

You can expect a real mellow vibe with great service. Their vegan menu has a variety of light and tasty items to choose from and don’t forget dessert. All this complemented with your choice of an adult beverage or tea. We loved it and I’m sure you will too.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant! The oyster mushroom tacos and artichoke hearts are a MUST HAVE. The toppings on the tacos (I get avocado added) are so fresh and it’s such a flavorful satisfying meal. The artichoke hearts and the house marinara are insanely good. They somehow taste like mozzarella sticks, but better. I still haven’t had everything on the menu yet, since I recently moved, but what I have had so far, is the BEST! I also love some of the non-toxic, eco-friendly containers that I get when I order take - out. ♥️♥️♥️

Google
Nothing too special, a bit overpriced. Dessert was terrible. From the ambience, service and food… it’s just average. The loaded fries saved the meal, loved the skinny fries with yummy cheese and amazing smell of “bacon”… but the grilled burger smelled way too much like smoke, the loaded nachos were okay. Service wasn’t bad at all, but it wasn’t great neither. It’s just meh. We ordered the Sunday brownie and eww, it was hard, crumbling like bread and tasteless. The little tiny scoop of ice cream didn’t help much.

Google
Delicious hip plant based restaurant serving tasty vegan options of comfort food. Been here multiple times and it’s been reliable. Just a short walk to the Starlight cinemas on Greenleaf in Whittier. What I really enjoyed were the Jackfruit nachos, fried avocado tacos, fried oyster mushroom tacos, salad bowl. I wasn’t overly thrilled with the alfredo pasta since it was hyped up as a very popular dish but it was just okay. Great spot to stop by for a pre or post movie night!

Google
I am a hard hardcore carnivore as they come. I decided to come here in support of my cousin who is Vegan. I was SO surprised & very impressed with my dining experience! The jackfruit nachos were amazing! I also ordered a pomegranate mimosa & rounded things off with the chocolate brownie. I will absolutely be back again & this experience taught me not to be so fearful of Vegan options that are out there. 🙂

Been dying to try this place.. Did NOT disappoint! Nachos were perfect not over seasoned and the No clucks given was mind blowing!! I'm not a fan of gravy, they happily put it on the side. This stuff was soooooo freaking good I was put it on my sandwich AND dipped my chips in it!!

Yelp
This is a nice little place with a decent amount of parking and shaded areas. However, it does seem like a relatively popular place to gather and hang out and walk around. That means that even with a decent amount of parking, it might be a little hard to find a spot. Modern shaman is a neat little place. I found that the inside of their eatery felt a little bare? But the little corner by the window and the door was cute. I think if they spruced up the place a little more and added some more decorations then it would feel better. I do like the little seating places outside since it is neat and relatively well shaded in front of their eatery! Let's start off with the service! Our waitress was very sweet and friendly. She handled as well and even described some of the burgers to me, letting me know what is popular and what I could possibly choose depending on what I'm looking for. Corndog - Very good and highly recommended! I really like the crispy and crunchy batter that was on the outside. It really is like a cornbread so it might feel a little dry compared to, say a place like hotdog on a stick. However, the batter layer isn't super thick and I think it is a nice ratio of batter to hotdog. It's served with ketchup and mustard but you can definitely ask for one of their other sauces! I chose to ask for some barbecue sauce on the side. I really liked the sweet and tangy barbecue sauce, it went well with the corndog. Oyster mushrooms - These were fried really well! Nice and crispy and not super oily either. Decent seasoning flavor but not super seasoned. The Sriracha aïoli went pretty good with the fried oyster mushrooms. I think these were my mom's favorite. PB&J burger - This was alright. I felt like it could've been a lot better though. I think if they added a creamy coleslaw or at least made the "bacon" crispy, it would give the burger more texture. While it was still yummy, it just felt like it was lacking something. Another idea would be using a crunchy peanut butter instead of a smooth one or making a spicy jam to give the burger a kick to it. Po Boy - I don't know what we thought the sandwich was going to be like. We even read the description but it's basically the fried oyster mushrooms, that we ordered for our appetizer, put into a sandwich. That means this sandwich should be pretty good but we didn't end up eating it as a whole after we came to that previous realization. I think it's a well-built sandwich though. You've got fresh looking lettuce and tomatoes with tangy dill pickles and the crispy oyster mushrooms! This feels like one of those solid, will always taste good, type of sandwiches! THE STAR (Mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy) - Honestly, I think my personal favorite was the mashed potatoes! My mom liked them too but her favorite were the oyster mushrooms. These potatoes aren't creamy but they make up for it with a nice fragrance and flavor to it. I feel like whatever they use plus the bit of turmeric, made it really tasty! The mushroom gravy didn't have too heavy of a flavor to it. It was relatively light so they were easy to eat. Normally, I am not a big fan of gravy because of how rich it can be but this was fine. While I didn't give this place a full five stars, I still really enjoyed this experience and will try to come back again in the future when I have the time.

Yelp
Outstanding vegan food! This is our favorite local vegan restaurant where you don't have to be a vegan to enjoy! We came here with friends and if we weren't full we would've kept going. I absolutely love their Fried Oyster Mushrooms Tacos. I had the Oyster Mushroom appetizer too. Hubby had the Chicken Sandwich and our friends had the Oy Po'Boy Sandwich & jackfruit tacos, I believe they were street tacos. The service was very attentive & friendly. The ambiance went from quiet because we got there before the dinner crowd to a packed house once more people came in. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I called to place an order to go. No answer went to recording. I called again to place my order. The young man on the other side of the phone does not have knowledge of the food item I ordered , I asked if it was soy free and he proceeded to ask me if it was a preference. I asked why , when i order a soy free burger. He couldn't help me on the phone so I came and decided to eat there. It was empty only 2 people I sat down for five minutes and no one came. I had to go to the kitchen and wave them down. Long story short the soy free burgers are not soy free the mayo has soy, the bread has soy. This is a lawsuit happening false advertising soy free and it actually is filled with soy products. This is why vegan is not healthy soy is not healthy to eat.

Yelp
Not only is the food pretty but it tastes as good as it looks! My husband and kids were hesitant to come here because it's Vegan (they like anything unhealthy lol) but they were not disappointed. Our server was friendly and offered a few recommendations that we room her up on. The bowls were delicious, we didn't leave a single bite behind. My daughter liked the cheese fries and of course she had to try a dessert. The brownie and ice cream were so good I think she forgot it was Vegan. The restaurant is clean and modern with a calm and warm feeling. This is a local place that I will definitely be returning to.

Yelp
Came to Modern Shaman before the Ghost Tour (Starting Point), amazing experience. Service was great, very attentive and friendly. Wide selection of drinks, including great craft beers. Peaceful environment with nice decor. Okay let's start with the food, ahh pause. Started dinner with the Jackfruit nachos, I can see why they're the best seller, amazing flavor and perfect crunch of chips. Decided to get the Po' Boy because where else!? Wow what an enjoyable sandwich. Tangy, juicy, crispy.. can't think of any other adjectives but tasty. Happy stomach. Hold on time for the Ghost Tour...

Yelp
Delicious, harm-free food! I love this place so much. We started with Pachamama Tea and hard kombucha. From there we had carrot soup and menudo. This is where the photos stopped because we dug right in. I was feeling like some real comfort food and had a fried "chicken'" sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. It hit the spot but the real star of the show was the gluten free chimichurri ravioli with fried oyster mushrooms. Wow, I have never had anything like it. I know that I'll have to come back for that again soon.

Yelp
Ordered Uber eats from this vegan / vegetarian / gluten free restaurant. Food arrived fast enough and plastic free packaging was great! I've been staying in and ordering Uber eats this entire freezing rain season. For food I decided on mushroom burger with gluten free bun, vegan menudo single serving and triple chocolate brownie gluten free. The food was fresh and yummy, just a bit bland for my liking. Not much salt or sugar but it's definitely on the healthier side. I will try gluten free pasta items next time to see if they have more flavors. The portions were a little small and prices were ok. I think it's a great healthy vegetarian / gluten free place. We will have to visit the actual restaurant when it gets warm!

Yelp
Small place. We visited on a Thursday 8pm (1hr before closing). So the review is really just based on cocktails and Loaded Cheeze Fries. It says handmade cocktails but it's really draft/premade cocktails. The magical margarita which wasn't weak. But sadly the food coloring mixed on just made it look a bit gross in color for a drink. Taste was okay. The glass is too delicate for a cocktail with such blocky chunks of ice. Fries were nice to share but really needed utensils. And overall it was okay. I visited on a full stomach or else I'd be interested in their ravioli and carrot cake....next time? But not coming here for cocktails and snacking.

Yelp
Angel was our amazing server! And also looked like the only person running the front of the house seating and taking orders. Another person brought out our food. Came with my friend who is newly vegan so we shared: Onion Rings (10/10) - I don't typically get to to eat onion rings because they aren't vegan but these ones were delicious and cooked well (crispy, not oily) The Mother Clucker Burger (9/10) - we added cheez and bakon so delicious ofc! I said 9 instead of 10 cuz the bread was smaller than the stuff in between it. Might be a personal style preference but if the bread was the same size it woulda been perfect Oyster Tacos (7/10) - def tasted ok but for the price point, they weren't seasoned very well. It was one large oyster mushroom battered and fried on a tortilla with a pile of tomatoes, some onions, dry purple cabbage, and a single jalapeno slice with a crema Madame Sugahs Lemon Tart (10/10) - I have been watching madame sugahs journey on Instagram so had to support while I was in town and the crisp tart crust with a zesty fresh pop was a perfect finish to a delicious meal Angel was so sweet and had this amazing denim apron handmade. What a breath of fresh air in service, quality, and experience. Will definitely stop by next time I'm in the area!

Yelp
Alchemy bowl - no crunch/crisp whatsoever on the garbanzo beans. Lacking in flavor. Four Directions bowl - Lets change the name to Lost Bowl instead, cause it really wasn't going anywhere. They opened up some cans, some bag of chips, sliced an avocado and boom charged you $20 Truffle fries - best thing of the night. Looked very plain but the truffle/garlic flavor really popped out. Overall, although we left full, our taste buds remain empty. The two bowls, which we thought were going to be heavy hitters, lacked overall flavor. It was quite disappointing as I've had this bookmarked for months. I removed it the instant we left. This place was a bit overpriced. Two salads, fries, and one cocktail for almost $80? Was not worth it, IMHO. We had to wave down the staff a few times to get a refill of water, which was weird because they had about 3 other tables dining. They mentioned they were trying something new tonight, a Stand Up comedy bit.. looked very unprepared and because the 'act' kept pacing around (mind you they haven't started) it felt "busy" and not in a good way. The vibe was off. Would not come again.

Yelp
FOOD: After reading the amazing reviews on this place, I had to check it out for myself. I wasn't starving so I ordered light. I ordered their Loaded Cheeze Fries which were so good! The fries were skinny and crispy, topped with a creamy "cheese" sauce, bacon, and ranch. It was a nice decent size and full of flavor. I couldn't stop eating them! Another favorite was the Oy! Po' Boy Sandwich. This was served on a French Roll and had fried oyster mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and mayo and sriracha aioli. I had it with a side salad. Overall, it was really good but I will say that the oyster mushrooms could've been fried just a bit longer. The middle parts of the mushrooms were very "sticky and slimy". I know it has that type of texture but it might throw off some people. That was my only small issue. SERVICE: I had reservations, since we were signed up for a Ghost Tour, and we were sat immediately. Everyone who we interacted with was so nice and welcoming. It was wonderful service. This became one of my favorite vegan restaurants to come to! NOTE: 100% vegan + indoor & outdoor seating + occasional ghost tours

Yelp
My friend is now a vegetarian, so was looking to find a place that offered good vegetarian food that was also located in the middle of LA and Cerritos. We initially ordered two things to share, but ended up placing a third order after realizing the portions were quite small. I still was not full after the third dish, but was very satisfied with the flavors of everything we ordered! What we had: - Chimichurri Ravioli - Smack N'cheeze - BLT-Avo Tacos My favorite of the three was 100% the BLT-Avo Tacos!! Would love to come back.

Yelp
I came here for dinner with a friend from out of town. And this was one of the best places that was kinda in the center of all my friends. It is a quaint little restaurant with outdoor seating. When entering the restaurant, you see the wines set on a table with skull candles, that makes it reminiscent of an altar. The server is very nice. I was checked up on us, and was very informative about the menu. When I asked for a recommendation, they gave some great options. And though to be honest, when I first looked at the menu, I wasn't feeling most of it. But was recommended either a pasta, or the "oy ! Po' boy!" When I informed the server that I was hungry, they recommended the oy! Po boy! Which is what I ordered. When I first bit into the sandwich, I was surprised at the wonderful citrus that instantly brightened the dish. The wonderful mushroom underneath gave it a wonderful umami flavor and texture to the sandwich. Overall, I felt that the description on the menu did not do justice to how great the sandwich was! If this is the case, I have to presume that the other dishes that I "wasn't feeling" might have been just simply due to the description, and would have tasted better than I thought. My sandwich came with a side salad which I enjoyed but I felt that it was not as spectacular as the sandwich itself, which was definitely the star. Although, I have heard from some of my friends, who was with me that they did not enjoy the mac & cheese due to the strong citrus aftertaste, I was not the one that had it, and cannot honestly speak to that regard. Again the service was absolutely wonderful. The server was amazing, since they checked on us quite often. I definitely would come back and recommend that you come here and try their menu! Especially the po boy!

Yelp
Great place for vegans!!! They have a ton of options (healthy and not) for vegans. I loved the burger I had. It was a bit messy but it tasted so good. The fries were good too but I just got the regular plain ones. I also got some of their tacos from the starters part of the menu and I would definately recommend them. There was only two of them but they were decent sized and very good. I have also tried their vegan alfredo pasta and I thought it was incredible. I would definately say to get that if you actually go to the restaruant. It is not as good with delivery or cold. The service was also very nice. The lady who helped us was so nice even though our food came out very close to their closing time. She never even mentioned it and was so polite and friendly. The place was also very nice. Very quiet and mellow vibe. It was late so not too crowded. The desserts were incredible. The carrot cake was the best. It was so tasty and the frosting was so sweet, great balance. The brownies was dry but the ice cream on top of it was so good. I would rate this place a 4.7 if I could. Great food, just that one brownie made it not a perfect 5.

Yelp
The food was great! I have been looking for a go-to vegan place. The service was quick and helpful going through the menu. The ambiance was chill. Definitely recommend the nachos with the jackfruit. Ate it too quickly to take a picture hah.

Yelp
First time visitors and we will DEFINITELY be returning very soon. The food here is DELISH, very affordable and will leave you walking away with a HUGE smile. My family and I had the loaded cheeze fries, Impossible Burger, Alfredo Noodles, Alfredo Noodles w/ Vegan Fried Chicken and tons of water (well, not tons but you get the idea). The fact that everything here is plant based, leaves one with a, "good" full as opposed to a "blah" full. Service is OUTSTANDING! The waitresses here are very professional, outgoing and hard working. The location is very clean, well organized and inviting. Patio seating was great except for a young teenager going back and forth and back and forth on his noisy skateboard. I give this restaurant a 10 out of 10. EXCELLENT dining experience!!
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant is definitely chic and is very vibey. Definitely has that mystical vibe to it. Wait staff was kind and attentive. However, the food itself was a bit disappointing. I got the Nachos. The food here is plant based and even though plant based can be delicious the Nachos were underwhelming. The cheese was so sparingly laid out and did not feel satisfying at all. Maybe their other stuff is good idk. I may give them another try. Also they are a bit too earthy in my opinion like asking for to go plates ... they said they don't carry them that much. There are also other eco friendly and biodegradable options. The nachos and overall experience left me thinking I had been scammed ..

Yelp
we haven't been in about a year so we decided to come back. don't know how, but the food was insanely better. and it was already good. we ordered a pot of chai that was refilled twice for us (lasted us our whole meal). really good, fragrant, and refreshing. to start we shared an order of cheese fries with bacon-- amazing ! tastes like the real thing. i got the oyster tacos which were really good and a great substitute for baja fish tacos, especially for me since i do not eat seafood. my boyfriend ordered the mama-quilla burger which was just a falafel burger but it was still really good. think gyro but in burger form-- with avocado. we got here at around 6pm, there weren't many people here when we got here. there were a couple of phone orders being picked up throughout our visit, though. there's low lighting in here so it feels very intimate at night (perfect for date night). music choice is solid throughout the night which added on to a chill and romantic experience. i highly recommend for non-vegans, as a non vegan myself !

Yelp
FEEEEETTTUUUCCCIIIINNNNEEEEE AAAAALLLLFFFFRRRRREEEEEDDDDDOOOOOOOOO I've been vegan for 10+ years and there's one thing I haven't been able to satisfy the craving of....... Fettuccine Alfredo. I have tried so many different entrees of this made vegan & have never been satisfied, so I accepted it as one of those fervently heartbreaking miserable parts of life that I'll just have to live with. Then I got lost and ended up in Whittier borderline starving & wasn't too invested but decided to dine here. I literally cannot believe it. I FOUND IT. I reunited with my Alfredo! It's the EXACT same flavor I remember. And paired with one of the excellent cocktails or glasses of wine available here? C it 2 believe it. I came back for my birthday. Mhm. This was my birthday dinner of choice. (I added bacon to it, and I actually ended up hating the bacon because it tasted too much like pig. Lol. I was in the mood for the sad tempeh attempt at bacon that I've grown to love, so, if u like bacon but don't like murdering animals then this is obviously the place for u).

Yelp
I meet up with a vegan friend for dinner from time to time which is how I, a carnivore, ended up here. So keep that in mind when you look at my rating because my friend would give this place five stars. I started with a glass of wine, a delightful tempranillo, served in a dishwater-spotted glass. I had a basket of excellent house-made potato chips to accompany it. My friend got the jackfruit nachos which I tried and thought were pretty good. After some conversation we ordered our main course. I chose the Impossible burger. I had never had one so wanted to give it a try. The patty itself had a beef burger-like texture but really had no flavor. The sauce, tomato, lettuce plus a pickle which sat on the side of the plate that I tossed between the buns helped give it some taste. Speaking of the buns - much too bready. The highlight of the evening was dessert. We shared a chocolate brownie topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. Super delicious. Our service was excellent and the ambience was relaxed. The gnarly, grungy rock playing on the sound system when we first came in was too loud but they soon turned it down a bit once some disco tunes (and subsequent music I don't recall) started playing. If you are not a vegan, like me, you'll most likely find this place to be okay but more in the 4 to 5 star range if you are vegan.

Yelp
The inside of the shop is cute and the outdoor seating is also nicely decorated. While we were eating, the staff was cleaning the outside periodically and everything was very clean. Our waiter was also so patient with us and helpful since the menu looked so good and there were so many options to choose from. The waiter told us that the soul animal of the owner is the hummingbird, and one of the items which I will order next time was the Mac n Cheese burger. There is a little hummingbird decal next to it on the menu. I tried the menudo, truffle fries, po' boy oyster mushroom sandwich, oyster mushroom tacos, and fettuccine alfredo. Some of the dishes were a little underwhelming but the fettuccine and crisp oyster mushroom were very redeeming. The pasta is creamy and taste and the oyster mushrooms were flavorful and bread crisp. The truffle fries didn't have the strong truffle flavor I was expecting since they use truffle oil apparently and green sauce on top wasn't enough that most of the fries underneath seemed bland. The menudo came with chips and toppings like cilantro and diced onion. Overall there are great dishes and the service was superb. I'm so glad there is this vegan restaurant in Whittier.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try modern shaman for a while. Their menu is very innovative, and the flavor combinations looked very intriguing. I had the chance to order delivery from Uber eats, and they didn't disappoint! I got the blt avocado tacos and the oyster mushroom po boy. They were both really good. I would definitely recommend both dishes. The tacos were served using blue corn tortillas, which are my favorite type of tortilla. They also use my favorite vegan bacon so that made them even better. Their ranch sauce was thick and creamy. I think it's house made because I've never had a vegan ranch like that. The fried avocados were very creamy, instead of crispy, but that's probably due to the delivery. Overall, I really enjoyed the tacos. The oyster mushroom po boy was excellent too. The fried mushrooms stayed nice and crispy during the delivery process. I just wish there was more sriracha mayo on the sandwich, but it was still great and very delicious. I just wish it was bigger because the flavors were so delicious, I just found myself wanting more. Overall, it was around $30 for two dishes, so kind of on the expensive side, but they were both good. A lot of love went into this food, and I really enjoyed eating it. I definitely will try to check it out in person if I am in the area. I definitely recommend modern shaman, they have a well crafted menu with delicious food!

Yelp
I always love to come here. The service is always so calming and courteous. Their energy is always welcoming and it is part of the reason I come back every time. I love that the restaurant is always calming and clean, I love the layout and the theme of the restaurant as well. I feel I can never get enough of admiring the beauty of the simplicity but how they executed it too. The other reason I always come back is the food; absolutely to die for. It's so delicious and I can't say it's like any vegan restaurant I have had before. I love the smoked n loaded burger above anything.

Yelp
Food: I ordered the Smack n' Cheese (macaroni and cheese) with french fries. I honestly did not enjoy the macaroni and cheese at all. I agree with another review that said the sauce was somehow sour. It didn't taste cheesy to me. The pasta was basically just sitting in a bowl of cheese sauce so it was a lot. On top of that I added on "fried chicken strips" to the mac n' cheese thinking it meant a side of a few pieces but it came with a piece of chicken LITERALLY the size of a chicken nugget. One chicken nugget for $4? It tasted good but come on! Maybe my fault for misinterpreting that on the menu but absolutely not worth adding. On the plus side, I can say they nailed the fries, which were perfectly crispy exactly the way I like and perfect salt. Small is the right size for one person. The water was also brought in a repurposed wine bottle so you could refill whenever you wanted. Pricing: The pricing is on par with similar spots to these, $13-$18 a plate and $18+ for a burger. For the little amount I enjoyed my food, I'd rather go to a cheaper vegan place a few blocks down. Service: Service was good! The server brought out another menu and was accommodating to my father who showed up late when I was already eating. (He did not order food.) Atmosphere & Restrooms: The atmosphere was really nice with candles at the tables (came in evening) and felt perfect for a date. The bathroom was nice and clean single room, but really dim lighting. Summary: Overall three stars because I can see myself possibly coming back and giving this place another chance, ordering something else. But this is only because I come to Whittier for work often. Service and atmosphere saved this from 2 stars.

Yelp
No cap here... we came across this place accidentally. Read the menu, looked great, totally didn't realize it was all plant based. Haha! It's okay, we're always up for an experience and why not this? Even though the bbq place across the street was staring at us big time! Anyways, we're impressed! My 2 year old enjoyed the corn dog and fries, the hubs liked the burger & salad, and I took an interest in the chicken that's not chicken. For the price, the portions are a bit small, but I guess pretty appropriate for keeping the calories in control. Environment is comfy and inviting, service is very friendly, and I would possibly consider trying it out again. You should, too! :) They have beer!

Yelp
I'm NOT typically into vegan food, but I wanted to try something out of my comfort zone and this place didn't disappoint. The place is good for a relaxed date spot too. The waiter was a kind dude that helped me decide what to eat, which was the ravioli with the salad that had the feta cheese and added tofu. I forgot what my girlfriend had but we ate the food soo fast I forgot to take picture. Easily Recommend if you're vegan and if you're used to real meat but wanna try someplace different.

Yelp
Every time I go visit my hometown I pass this restaurant but never walked in. I have been wanting to try it and I finally did with my son on Christmas Eve. And wow, pow, knock me out amazing! I am known for only reviewing 5 star places and just wow! This vegan restaurant and yes yes I said vegan needs another star! In My Hometown! The food was just scrumptious. I never thought you could make vegan menudo and make it, at the very least taste good, BUT this restaurant has not only accomplished that but exceeded anything I could imagine! Flavor flavor flavor and healthy! Oh and just get me started on the jackfruit nachos! Oh lordt! You will feel like you are cheating on your healthy eating plan (if you're on one) and maybe you are but this is the place to do it! Guilt free and good for the body! Bravo and congratulations for being delicious!

Yelp
This place is a MUST! We drove from Riverside just to try out this spot and it was totally worth it. I ordered the Chicken Alfredo and it was soooo good. Before becoming vegetarian, this was my go-to order at Olive Garden and since then I haven't had anything this similar and delicious. I was extremely happy with this order. My husband ordered the No Clucks Given burger (he's a meat-eater) and he genuinely enjoyed this! The fries were perfect! Service was beyond amazing. I asked the server which drink was one of their sweetest options and after some discussion he offered to make a drink for me. I had a pineapple margarita which was the perfect amount of sweet. I loved it and was extremely grateful!! The location is a little small, but spacious. They do also offer outdoor sitting if that's something you're interested in. We will definitely stop by again if we are ever in the area.

Yelp
Just finished a really delicious meal! I got the fried "oysters," side of mashed potatoes and fried garbanzos. Michael, our server, was really great too! I really love this place and love that there's a vegan dining establishment in Whittier.

Yelp
Went in on a Sunday afternoon and was not too busy so was able to be seated immediately. There is only one waiter for the whole restaurant so it can get pretty hard on the waiter. The food was surprisingly really good and I could not even tell there was no meat. I got the mama quilla and all the ingredients tasted fresh and were filling. The only critic is that the homemade chips were not that crispy. My family ordered the po boy and the fried oyster mushrooms actually tasted like calamari and their chicken sandwich really tastes like chicken as well. Presentation is nice and the inside has a hipster vibe.

Yelp
First time trying Modern Shaman. Food was refreshingly delicious, tried the jackfruit carnitas tacos which were amazing. Also tried their non alcoholic CBD drink fire+ice which was a refreshing twist on a mocktail. Will definitely be returning and trying out more vegan options. Great addition to the restaurants in Uptown.

Yelp
The alchemy bowl was fantastic! Perfect blend of flavor, texture, color and presentation! I'm new to this whole eating well deal and this made it so much more enjoyable. Service was kind and timely. They wear a mask/shield and gloves. The outside seating was sooo cute, lush shady and spacious. Definitely going to try this gem again soon for a meatball sandwich or the macaroni & cheese. See you soon modern shaman!

Yelp
This is a fun smallish place on an automobile-free promenade (with associated park, then walk issues). The food and service are both excellent. My brunch companion ordered the "Burger" and fries (note: it's 100% vegan across a rather meat-sounding menu). I had the 4 Directions Bowl. We were both impressed by the food and unusually attentive, hospitable service. 5 stars. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Haven't been to Uptown Whittier in years. There is free packing in a covered structure. Elevator didnt seem to be working. Greenleaf Avenue is still blocked off, so the area is great for walking. Nice patio seating at the restaurant. The 4 Directions Bowl was my choice. I added chicken to it. The dressing was creamy and reminded me of Green Goddess. Black beans were pooled at the bottom, so make sure you mix up the bowl. The jackfruit carnitas weren't very impressive or flavorful, but they do add texture. The waiter, Angel, was polite and checked up on us often. Also dog friendly, from.what we could see.

Yelp
Modern Sharma is my new favorite local restaurant. It's a fusion of Peruvian and Mediterranean, with an earthy vibe. Love love love.

Yelp
So glad this business exists. The food here is so amazingly good! Not to mention the location is at a great spot with many different bars nearby. On certain weekdays they often times offer a great dining experience along with great group activities one can enjoy together with different groups of people. A must try is their vegan Menudo with their Alchemy bowl!

Yelp
I've been here a few times as I travel from SD to Whittier for work. Such great food and service! I was very bummed when I wanted to go last week and they are temporarily closed! Hopefully it's actually temporary. It's on a cute block and the variety of vegan food is delish!

Yelp
The best part: everything. The worst part: that it finished. Good, satiating, vegan food. The garbanzos were like synthetic croutons. Little things like the happy face on my bag made my day and as I waited for my food, I read from their little library. Great music, by the way! I'll be back to try other things on the menu

Yelp
I was curious to try & needed to use a delivery service for the first time as well. I called the restaurant & a very nice guy said they have worked with Door Dash & explained about the App It wasn't hard to figure out. Everything I ordered was better than expected. Packaged separately and handled carefully by the Dasher named Nicholas. The App provided updates from the restaurant. I'm excited to try something different whether I go there for the first time or Door Dash.

Yelp
This place is absolutely amazing. It is located on a wonderful stretch in Whittier that has been closed to car traffic and has set up a lovely outdoor eating experience. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The ambiance, both indoors and outdoors, is relaxed. I've eaten both on location and picked up to go. I've never had any issues with service nor with the food. I will add that I am not vegan but still come to this restaurant regularly. Every time I go I always order my favorite. The jackfruit nah-chos are the best nachos I've ever had. Not just best vegan but best nachos period. The sauce is flavorful and delicious. They're fully loaded with lots of yummy fresh, high quality ingredients. I've also had their po' boy sandwich, oyster tacos, and cheese loaded fries. I've loved them all. I'd be surprised if anything on their menu was anything less than stellar. Overall a fantastic place that I highly recommend. Oh and when you go, do yourself a favor and have some carrot cake. *chef's kiss*

Yelp
There's so much I can say about modern Shaman, it's always memorable. They have the best vegan cheese sauce ever!!! They are so sweet about accommodating gluten allergies. The waiters are always so nice and helpful and respectful! I definitely recommend all the dishes! The oyster tacos are my boyfriends favorite ! I love their french fries
