"This unapologetic, beer-loving, San Diego local craft brewery is a staple of good beer and good design. With everything you could ever dream of on tap, Modern Times is literally slaying the local craft beer game and making waves across the nation." - Grizzly
"Teaming Up With: Alamar and The Lumpia Company The San Diego-based brewery recently announced it’s partnering with Alamar Bar & Kitchen and reopening its Oakland location with new sidewalk seating. Alamar created a special takeout menu that includes guava chili barbecue-glazed wings, and beer cheese made with Modern Times beer. While you’re there, you can also pick up lumpia and barbecue chicken skewers from the Filipino takeout spot, The Lumpia Company. For more details, head to their website. Teaming Up With: The Little Chihuahua and Bus Stop Pizza Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1-8pm, this neighborhood bar on Divisadero is open for outdoor seating, where you can also get cocktails, wine, and beer, plus chicken, carne asada, or bean and cheese burritos from The Little Chihuahua. Right now, The Page is also serving 12”-inch cheese or pepperoni pizzas from the longtime neighborhood spot Bus Stop Pizza. For sidewalk seating, we recommend you sign up for their waitlist (it opens 30 minutes before the bar opens)." - lani conway

"This fairly experimental company is famous for its delicious hybrids, or what they call "Island-of-Doctor-Moreau-style mash-ups." The entirely employee-owned company is named after a utopian community from the 1800s (now known as Brentwood, Long Island). It has lots of rotating seasonal beers, special session brews, and old favorites that are always on tap. This brewery is also a coffee roaster, so both beer drinkers and coffee lovers can find their own brew to sip on." - Travel + Leisure Editors
"San Diego’s Modern Times Beer is on a major expansion tear right now — and it’s heading for the Bay Area next. The rapidly growing craft beer company will be opening at 2410 Valdez Street, in Oakland’s Uptown neighborhood just a couple of blocks from Drake’s Dealership. What exactly Modern Times will be opening, however, remains a mystery. The company has filed for a beer manufacturer liquor license, which would allow it to serve beer and wine in a taproom setting. Dan Reed, Modern Times Beer’s communications manager, confirmed that the brewery will be opening “something” but stated it’s too early to divulge any details. Employee-owned Modern Times is known just as much for its colorful, playful taprooms as its excellent range of sessionable beer, from fragrant IPAs to fruity sours to experimental hybrids." - Janelle Bitker
