12 Best Breweries in San Diego, California

"This fairly experimental company is famous for its delicious hybrids, or what they call "Island-of-Doctor-Moreau-style mash-ups." The entirely employee-owned company is named after a utopian community from the 1800s (now known as Brentwood, Long Island). It has lots of rotating seasonal beers, special session brews, and old favorites that are always on tap. This brewery is also a coffee roaster, so both beer drinkers and coffee lovers can find their own brew to sip on." - Travel + Leisure Editors

San Diego’s Modern Times Beer is Coming for the Bay Area - Eater SF

"San Diego’s Modern Times Beer is on a major expansion tear right now — and it’s heading for the Bay Area next. The rapidly growing craft beer company will be opening at 2410 Valdez Street, in Oakland’s Uptown neighborhood just a couple of blocks from Drake’s Dealership. What exactly Modern Times will be opening, however, remains a mystery. The company has filed for a beer manufacturer liquor license, which would allow it to serve beer and wine in a taproom setting. Dan Reed, Modern Times Beer’s communications manager, confirmed that the brewery will be opening “something” but stated it’s too early to divulge any details. Employee-owned Modern Times is known just as much for its colorful, playful taprooms as its excellent range of sessionable beer, from fragrant IPAs to fruity sours to experimental hybrids." - Janelle Bitker

12 Places to Find Beyond Meat and Impossible Burgers in LA | Eater LA

14 Best Bars in San Diego | Condé Nast Traveler

"Unlike most San Diego breweries, Modern Times doesn't only specialize in IPAs. In fact, they normally have 16 options on tap, with a little something for everyone, from Belgian-style pours and coffee stouts to sours in their Fruitlands line. If you're not ready to commit to a single pour, order a flight. You'll want to stay a while, thanks to the funky decor: upside-down lampshades hang from the ceiling, columns of stacked VHS tapes double as the bar top, and there's a mural made entirely of color-coordinated floppy disks (talk about retro)." - Archana Ram

Google
Absolutely Delicious beer. I really hope they come back strong as this was a must visit location. Staff were always friendly and super knowledgeable. Their prices are great especially since their beer tastes so good. Overall Modern Times Beer is amazing so do yourself a favor and find some while you’re in town.

Google
Modern Times Beer is a brewery unlike any other—it’s quirky, creative, and filled with good vibes! From their eclectic décor to their innovative beer offerings, everything about this place feels unique. I tried their Black House Coffee Stout, which was rich and smooth with hints of coffee that made it absolutely delicious. They also have an impressive selection of IPAs if you prefer something lighter or hoppier. The staff here is super friendly and knowledgeable—they’re happy to answer questions or help you choose a beer based on your preferences. Whether you’re looking to hang out with friends or just enjoy some great craft beer in a cool setting, Modern Times is always a great choice

Google
Great selection of beers. Lo e the atmosphere and good vibes. Definitely recommend!! Got the Origin Story Let's Go so good! They get a little wild on the edges so if you get adventurous...be ready for a ride. They also have good mid-line beers for those that like easier drinks. Hey if you like black liquorice....go for the under!

Google
Brewery/coffee house/record store, and they just flow with it! They were hosting different events when we ended up visiting, but it was cool to see how the brewery, while a big part of the identity, was not the whole identity. These guys sport some serious brewing equipment though, so you can't act like their image will be muddled by all the other things they enjoy dipping their hands into. It's tucked away in an industrial area, in a warehouse itself, and parking is definitely part of the experience.

Google
It has pretty good beer. Location is in industrial area and lots of homeless around and businesses. Came for beer and a new hat. Hats are sold out. Had a food truck. Outside busy with kids who were loud and allowed to run around like it was a playground. I would have given 3 stars however you come here truly for beer and some weee terrific. Non beer drinkers can get bottled coke and orange Fanta which weee good. The chaos grid old money edition was excellent.

Lilla

Google
Really cute upcycled warehouse feel. Very chill with lots on tap. Very cute place. They have some arcade games, we played a game of uno and some records you could purchase. Service was prompt and friendly. I recommend this place.

Google
Favorite brewery in San Diego! The decor and vibe were great. The stouts were amazing!! All so smooth and flavorful. Everything we tried was fantastic. Don’t miss the pecan pie stout. Sours were excellent as well.

Jesse Anderson

Google
Great brewery with great beer. I know they have changed ownership, but still same great brewery with great people/staff. They added pinball and mariokart for the kids... and the kids at heart (me). Their beer is still stellar!!

Yelp
I love the vibe and the beer! We have been to the Modern Times location on Upas Street during one of our previous trips to San Diego. We enjoyed it a lot. The beer was some of our favorite. So, when we discovered that there was a location near our Harbor Island hotel, we knew we had to check it out! The location is in a more industrial area across from a dinghy repair shop. It is a warehouse sort of place. Besides great beer, they also have coffee and sell vintage vinyl records. It is a really cool vibe. I love that the bar looks like it is made of books! There were over 30 taps. I found a very tasty hazy IPA (Space Ways), and my husband got a tangerine lager (Perpetual Sunshine) and a Stout called Mocha Madness, which he raved about. The staff was friendly, and though it was a warm day, a lovely breeze cooled the place off. A most enjoyable experience!

Yelp
I've always passed by the North Park location so I was very excited to finally check out the main Modern Time location here. The warehouse setting has high ceilings and a nice interior that is great for large groups. They also had a vinyl record store and a mini mart which I think are both cool touches. They also had some board games that you could play. I got several pours but the highlight for me was definitely the Fruitlands which is their passion fruit guave gose. Really refreshing with a great fruity flavor. We got here within 1 hour of closing and so it wasn't too crowded and were able to order our drinks right away. All in all this is a nice spot to grab some drinks!

Yelp
Loved coming here to mothership location. Staff here is super chill and accommodating letting you try beers before you make your selection. The beers here definitely live up to the hype, and this brewery is definitely one of the best in west coast! Had the Zipline ipa & monstar's park vanilla stout. Highly recommend getting since those are the only 2 they don't serve outside the brewery. As an IPA lover, it's in my top 5 IPAs with Ballast Point & 10 Barrel Brewing from Portland

Yelp
Full disclosure: this was not the brewery we'd set out to spend the evening at. But, through my own incompetence and impatience to order an Uber Pet, I accidentally selected the wrong Modern Times location, and didn't realize it until we were almost at the front door. Oopsie They are dog-friendly, which is a bonus. But neither of us really got the warm fuzzies from this place. They have an open seating area with lots of tables and chairs, plus a smaller outdoor seating area. I'm not entirely sure what left us feeling a bit off about this spot, though. If forced, I'd say it was the lack of friendliness from the guys working the taps that night. They weren't rude or anything, but neither were they super welcoming. Each time we went up for a refill we had to wait for them to stop their conversations with friends at the bar to get our drink orders in. I know that sounds so small, but with all the great breweries in San Diego, and with all the friendly and welcoming beertenders working said breweries, it just felt like a let-down to be in a brewery with guys who didn't really care about you if they didn't know you. And also, the beer that I really wanted went out on my first pour, so I couldn't even drink the drink I went to drink.

Yelp
I have been fortunate enough to have lived next door to a beer bar and bottle shop in Arizona that has Modern Times beer products on their menu. It's how I learned about them. On my most recent trip to San Diego, I decided to check out their tasting room. I love the beer here at Modern Times. They've been brewing it since 2013 and they roast coffee too. My two loves - beer and coffee under one roof. This tasting room is very spacious and is located near Old town. There is the bar and a mini mart where you can grab some products to-go. For parking, you can park on any of the streets nearby. We ordered a flight so we could sample a few beers we haven't tried yet. The Orderville is such a great tasting IPA. I also grabbed some nitro coffee to-go. Modern Times makes some good beer and they've grown much in their ten years of existence. This was a great stop for happy hour and I look forward to grabbing more products back at my bottle shop back home.

Yelp
We had never been to this location before, and we had a great time when we came by with friends in the evening! Other reviews mentioned that there could be an issue with parking, but we were all able to find parking right out front of the brewery. Upon entering, the layout inside was open air, and there was a spacious outdoor seating area. All of the decorum was cool to look at, from the post it note mural to the comic book wall. The draft menu had so many good looking options, so we opted to get a couple of flights to give them a try. The staff was really welcoming, made great suggestions, and offered honest opinions on drafts they didn't think would fit what we were looking for. We ended up really enjoying Brain Vacation and Fortunate Islands! Both were refreshing and fruity tasting. Great, chill vibes here that I highly recommend checking out! We will definitely be back again soon to try more drafts, and give the coffee bar a try.

Yelp
Food is delicious drink are great service was outstanding would go again. Love how they have flights of beer so you can different one. Love how decoration on the walls are old schools.
google avatar

Brendan L.

Yelp
Probably the coolest atmosphere of any brewery I've been too this far in the San Diego area. Many different options and great IPA options. Staff is so friendly and welcoming and service is amazing! They have coffee too, but I'm not sure how that is! Will be back!
google avatar

Jessie H.

Yelp
It is located in kinda of strange/shady area because there aren't really any other stores around it. They have a very large selection of beer and indoor/outdoor seating open area. There was a large mural on the side as well, very hipster! You can also buy beer to-go!! I tried some of the fruity beers and some of the seltzers. I really liked the sparkle nectar. Prices are decent (~$8) and there is so many different beers on tap to try! A decent amount of seating as well. I recommend coming here esp if you're a beer lover!
google avatar

Andrea L.

Yelp
Friendly staff, good beer plus coffee and a rotating hard seltzer. Frequent different food trucks. Always a great vibe and perfect stop before any event at sports arena
google avatar

Mackenzie W.

Yelp
Super cool space and good beer. I haven't loved modern times the most in cans but I was a big fan of the hazy I tried on draft. They had a cool record store that they built out recently within the warehouse as well, which is exciting to see.

Abigail M.

Yelp
Yesterday was my second visit to Modern Times with my two grown daughters, and we enjoyed it even more this time. MANY great beers, cavernous industrial but fun atmosphere, and casual friendly employees. We especially liked bartender Shaun yesterday, who kept us engaged, laughing and well-served. Thank you, Shaun! Will be back soon.
google avatar

Yelp
Stayed at the hotel that's literally walking distance.. not only did we walk once we walked twice! This place for a brewery is HUGE! Love the space inside and outside! Very clean, a lot of beers on tap, the girls were welcoming, they had games available inside and cornhole outside. The beer was very good I started with a flight just to explorer and I liked them all but the one that really stood out to me was OMG HAZY. The right amount of "fruity" in a hazy and it's not too tart or dry it felt like I was drinking juice but for adults lol. Definitely coming back when on vacation. Great times Modern Times!

Yelp
This brewery is probably one of my all time favorites and will always have a place in my heart. My first apartment in SD was in Point Loma, so I would come here a lot with friends because it was so close. AMBIANCE: This place has a cool vibe and intentional decor. My favorite is the big wall mural made solely out of post it's! It took me a while to finally figure it out lol. They change the artwork periodically. They also have an outdoor patio extension with additional seating. The fact that this location is right behind a stripper establishment gives it character in my opinion lol. There's also street parking and a lot nearby. I believe there's like a bait shop (don't quote me on the type of business it it) nearby that the parking lot is shared with, but after business hours when the bait shop is closed, I usually park in that lot and have never had any problems. BEER/SERVICE: I've always been a fan of modern times beer, especially the selection of stouts and sours. The employees are always super nice and attentive. Overall, I definitely recommend giving this place a visit.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
Good beer, good food what more could you ask for! Beertenders are ready to help and serve plus the building has that nostalgia of the old breweries being in an industrial area.
google avatar

Jerry P.

Yelp
Parking can be an issue, but once you get past that little issue, this place is pretty awesome. There is plenty of outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. I don't know if there are any food options available. I left work later than usual, checked my commute from Point Loma to Escondido and saw a 90 minute commute ahead of me. I said, "neigh neigh" and choose beer instead. I've been here a few times before and have always enjoyed their stout. I figured I'd slowly enjoy a pint, chill and relax, let traffic die down, then head home. I started talking to the gentleman behind the bar. I'm afraid I forgot his name, but he was very friendly. All the stouts on tap we're barrel-aged which I tend to dislike so I went with a Porter. It wasn't as heavy as I like, but tasty nonetheless. I ended up buying a few cans to take home and enjoy. One called "Ethereal Embrace" was amazing, on my list, it's top five stouts. ( if you're wondering to gauge my judgement on stouts, Alesmith Speedway is my favorite). This wasn't far off that at all. This place would be great for an event, or just hanging with friends. Great beer, great service, friendly people all around.

Yelp
I love modern times beers ! They are total bosses of IPAs and I love the Fruitlands line. I was disappointed to come to the SD location on a Friday and see it totally dead ! I feel like this company was doing great pre pandemic. I guess there's just too much new competition ? Note to Manager: I was totally excited to get a T-shirt and you have no sizes left. Maybe dropping the ball on sales when the company is already being sold isn't business savvy ? Maybe this will be the next location to close?
google avatar

Don B.

Yelp
Modern Times Loma Land offers an nice open airy venue to sit back and enjoy a unique offering of sours, hazys, stouts and hard seltzers. With a steady stream of patrons the bar attendants are friendly and can definitely help recommend a brew for you. Located in the industrial area of rosecrans, street parking is your only option so you may have to circle the block. Highly recommend Modern Times, Sparkle Nectat hard seltzer as it's a very unique drink that makes it one of a kind.
google avatar

Mb L.

Yelp
Shaun has redeemed this place for me. A couple years ago, I came here and had probably the worst service I ever had here. Idk the name of the guy at the time (but it's irrelevant) because Shaun (who's usually at Flavordome) was AMAZING! So helpful with descriptions and recommendations. My go-to whenever I have MT is Black House on Nitro, but today I had First Of Sight (sour). Good flavor, dark, very good sour. I was expecting a different flavor from Elemental Magic (persimmon) but it was still good. Enjoyed coming here and being able to chat with friends.
google avatar

JL S.

Yelp
Craft beer is crashing all around them but Modern Times is raising prices and has killed their happy hour. Still fine beers and a nice setting. But when many pints are $9.50 and their special stouts are $11-$12 for five ounces I think we're headed to a Roman Empire ending for SDs craft beer industry.
google avatar

Susan K.

Yelp
Coffee & beer joint! Interesting use of books as both wall paper & on the bar! Really cool decor. I found the beers less appealing. The parking is pretty abysmal as most of the spots are 15 minute only. Sort of bizarre if you want me to drink - yet, don't linger...
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
The best brewery and beer around. Rad looking inside and outdoor patio is big. The stouts are ridiculous and tasty.
google avatar

Alden C.

Yelp
After hearing that Modern Times was closing several of it's locations like the one in Portland and keeping just four open in California I decided it was time to actually try their beer. The closures are pandemic related. I have had their beer before but they were collaboration beers in which another brewery or breweries were involved in the making of the beer but as far as I can recall I don't think I had any beers up until recently that was exclusively theirs. Steve and I had two Modern Times beer the other night. Both we really enjoyed a lot and we would love to try some other ones upon any return to San Diego. The first beer we had was the their Laser Rain. This was a cucumber gose which was very good. It was nice and light and the cucumber flavor complimented the rest of the beer very well. It's been a while since I had a gose and it was a pleasant, refreshing return to this beer style. The next beer we had was Black House. This was a very pleasant, roasty coffee tasting stout. Very appropriate to have during the drizzly, rainy season here in the Pacific Northwest but this stout is so good and accessible you will get enjoyment regardless how appropriate the weather may be to match the style and mood. Very unfortunate to not have a Modern Times location not so close to me anymore but I am grateful that they didn't completely close.
google avatar

Asia C.

Yelp
This place is super rad. I loved the interior design. Indoor and Outdoor seating was available but we chose to sit outside because it was nice outside but its dope! I ended up getting a flight which was probably the better choice as a first time here. I got - Cool Zone - Fortunate Island - Star Cloud - Space Mallet All of them were pretty fire if you're into more sours. The Space Mallet though was crazy, I've never had anything like it. It was basically a boozed up Raz-ma-taz smoothie but so delicious. I don't know that worked but it did! I can see this place being a hit during pre pandemic. I liked the music and vibes so I'd go explore their other locations for sure!
google avatar

Kate F.

Yelp
It's tucked away in an odd area but they have a really cute outdoor area. I got the smoothie seltzer and it was absolutely delicious! I try to avoid gluten and they didn't have any completely gluten free options so the seltzer was the best option and only one I tried. My friends really liked the beers that they had
google avatar

Bert G.

Yelp
So many reviews of San Diego establishments mention parking issues. This review is no exception. Modern Times Beer is on Greenwood Street, which has partial parking only on one side. There is no dedicated lot, and sometimes a short walk will be necessary. Parking in this industrial-zoned neighborhood might need some extra time and planning . Once inside, everything is fine. My server at the bar gave me a taster or two, and patiently answered my questions. I decided on a 16 ounce glass of "Dort" ($7.50), a pilsener which is named after the German city of Dortmund. It is aptly named, quite tasty and very refreshing. Incidentally, it is not a local product, as it was brewed in Portland, Oregon. One star was deducted due to the lack of food service on premises, and the room-temperature beer glasses. Otherwise, it is a great place to visit and chat with friends in the outdoor patio. There is also indoor seating.

Wally D.

Yelp
Great beer selection. Service was great and the ambiance was nice. Went with co workers and sat outside . Very nice seating and we tried few different beers all were amazing.
google avatar

Dee A.

Yelp
Great food vegan tacos were so good. The beer selection is always good as well. I had two sours and a stout.
google avatar

Mike L.

Yelp
Like them or not, but you have to have at least one West Coast IPA or pale on tap at all times if you make them. If you're all hazy or NE, then I get it. The beer is very good, just bummed no West Coast.
google avatar

Gabriel R.

Yelp
Great place to go and relax and have good brews, staff is always friendly and understanding when it comes to new selections. I would really recommend coming here more often.
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
What a shame. My rating is not based off the drinks or the service. The moment you walk in there's a ton of flies so we left. I was afraid that I'd order a drink, open my mouth and accidentally swallow a fly.
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
It's huge inside. They had some good stouts on tap. Finally tried barley wine. It's very similar to an imperial stout. Great for large groups.
google avatar

Alyssa F.

Yelp
Randomly saw this brewery after checking out the Kobe Swap Meet and was super intrigued because I've had quite a few beers from Modern Times and never thought to see if they had a physical location. This is a super cute and laidback brewery with a TON of beer options, and they have both indoor/outdoor seating. It has a very industrial vibe, a "to-go" type market, and lots of table & chairs outside with market lights. The only downside is the limited parking, so be prepared to drive around to find street parking!
google avatar

Amy K.

Yelp
I went to the Modern Times in Midway District on 6/20/20 just south of SeaWorld. There are several locations. A little gem with hipster vibes, a bar built of old books, a cafe next to it and an outdoor patio. A cool place to hang out. They feature many unique flavors of light beers to stouts. Check it out yourself.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Great variety of beers in a funky environment. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The bartenders were really friendly and open to answering questions and giving recommendations. I like that you can get 5, 8 or 16oz. pours of most of their drinks so you can create your own flight. I got the Small Circle: Petite Sirah which is a dark sour collaboration with Las Jaras winery. I love wine and sours and this one was perfect! Definitely had a nice tang to it but didn't drink too harsh or heavy. Also tried reparations and permanent expansion which were dessert stouts. These were both VERY sweet and heavy, I personally only needed a sip of my partners and I was good. He even said his 5oz. Pour was a little too much. The reparations was a little lighter than the permanent expansion though.

Matt H.

Yelp
A great local brewery. We like to go before the San Diego gulls games and grab a couple beers. The environment is friendly and welcoming. They also have coffee that they roast and barrel aged sours. I highly recommend.
google avatar

Hector G.

Yelp
Modern Times Beer makes some of the best tasting IPA's in my opinion. They also have a good variety of other beers listed from their changing menu. The venue is a big warehouse with a couple of tables and chairs put out for hanging out and tasting. It's a nice casual place to have some drinks. My only complaint about Modern Times is that there is no food served. This place would be 5 stars if they paired food with their exquisite beers.
google avatar

Mary V.

Yelp
Back in the San Diego area after a two-year hiatus, we ended up stopping at Modern Times on several different days. We came back here the first time we were recently in town for a reason: Modern Times' location. But what we really discovered was a great atmosphere, great service, and some really enjoyable beers. Obviously Modern Times changes up their draft menu, so there were multiple brews on the list this time that piqued my interest (compared with my previous visit two years ago). Taste is smooth and satisfying - this is a beer to sit back with, sip and enjoy. Outside area is dog friendly, and we had a blast talking with another fellow dog lover (and their dog). I could have stayed here for hours, but sadly we needed to leave. Solution to the problem? Come back again - which we did. The second time was not as crowded as the first, but still a great place to sit back, enjoy the breeze and the sunshine and take your time drinking a fabulous beer. Excellent. I'd be here nearly every day if we lived in the area. Maybe it's a good thing that I don't!?

Karina Yaríe S.

Yelp
Really good beers, good ambiance The costumer service is very welcoming Will definitely be back again soon

Yelp
Modern Times Brewery was a quite a surprise to find. Luckily we were staying a block a way, and decided to take a look. At night the coffee shop is closed, but walking in you see an open space with large beer silos, along with the bar, listing an impressive variety of craft beers. In the morning till 2PM the coffee bar is open. We watched them roast the beans in the small room next to the coffee bar. They have incorporated using some specialized items like hops syrup, to enhance some of their drinks. As well as bourbon barrel aged espresso. They also make their own chai blend in house. What I loved was the way they decorated the space. Every wall has something different. Aside from the pixel post notes picture the other walls have either pages from a comic book or book pasted all over. The bar has stacks of books lining the sides and they have shelves of vinyls. Super cool space to have a gathering or just to chill. They have an out door space as well for those summer days. If you're in the area or just want to try something new, go give Modern Time Brewery/coffee a try!
google avatar

Yelp
I really wanted to like it, but maybe I expected too much. Modern times is great, don't get me wrong, but my experience at this location wasn't the best. We walked in and weren't greeted, we were ignored. We had to wait a considerable amount of time before we were actually able to get a beer. When the beer finally arrived it fell flat on its face. Maybe my taste buds are affected by bad customer service and an inefficient process just to get a beer. I'd like to try Modern Times at another location to see if I have the same experience as here.

Jeff K.

Yelp
Layla was our beer tender. She was super courteous and knowledgeable! Thanks so much for the most delicious Monster Tones!
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
What a great Modern Times brewery! This was my first time at a Modern Times and I was incredibly impressed with both the interior and outdoor design along with the friendliness of the staff. This location has a ton of space, so it is easy to find a seat. On top of this they have a large variety of beer, merch and cans to take home. While I was there I ordered the Robot Therapy, Star Cloud, and the Benevolent Demon at the suggestion from one of the staff. I was impressed with all three and genuinely enjoyed my time sitting at Modern Times enjoying my beer. Highly recommend coming by here!

Jessica H.

Yelp
Such a fun place with such great beer. I came here a while back with my husband and some friends. We had a little trouble finding parking as there isn't really a parking lot or designated areas to park but we managed. When we arrived it wasn't super busy since they had just opened so we easily got a place to sit for 6 people. They offer so many great beers so I ended up opting for a flight since I couldn't make up my mind. All the beers were delicious and one of my friends really enjoyed the sour beers. I thoroughly enjoyed their IPAs as well as some of their tasty stouts. The decorations are cool and provide many photo opportunities :) Loved this place.

Eric D.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite breweries. They do great with all of the major styles, but the stouts are my favorite. I will visit this brewery any time I have an opportunity.

V. K.

Yelp
Most unfriendly, unprofessional beertenders in town! Beer is not what it used to be prior to the acquisition, either. The people at the bar just don't care, if you have a good time or not. We politely asked, if it was possible to turn off one of their hurricane strength fans, since it got too cold to sit outside and the fan made it unpleasant to sit inside. The answer we got was that it will get too hot and they didn't want the other people to leave. It was 69 degrees outside and windy, so that's a bit of a stretch but hey, other places sell beer, too. And better beer.

Yelp
My visit to this Modern Times location happened a while back, but after rehashing my worst customer service experience with a friend I decided to write a review. My friends and I started off with flights which were great and decided to go back up to the bar to try out more of your beer options. I asked one of the bar tenders, a woman with dark hair with streaks of blue in it, if I could sample one of the IPAs. It was okay, but I wanted to try another one. Upon asking her to sample another, she seemed slightly irritated and said "why don't you just get the flight of ipas". I didn't want another flight, and she got me a second sample that I liked and ordered. My friend, who was on a separate tab, asked to sample a beer as well. The bartender responded with "if you guys get one more sample I'll have to charge your for a flight."We were surprised she would say this, and my friend just picked a random beer, because we didn't want to be charged the cost of a flight. We walked away from the bar, but after about 15 minutes I returned to the bar to ask if it was their policy to charge us the cost of a flight if we were to ask for more than 3 samples on 2 different tabs. The gentleman who I posed my question to was very kind and said "no, you're welcome to try as many as you like, who told you that you couldn't?" I did not want to point to the other bar tender, but she managed to bring attention to herself my chiming in with "I didn't charge you for the flight". She was very rude, and I told her that it wasn't about her actually charging us but that she threatened to do so. Needless to say, she ruined our experience at LomaLand Fermentorium. I took my complaint to customer service and their reply was interesting to say the least. See photo.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I love checking out new breweries and while driving through San Diego, we discovered Modern Times. We LOVED IT! We met up with some friends and ordered a flight consisting of: Artemis - brewed with extra pale premium pilsner malt & toasted, flaked rice Mist Dragon - a hazy IPA malt-bill and fermented with lager yeast before hopping with Riwaka and Calista Mythic Worlds - IPA brewed with mountainous heaps of Galaxy Motueka Mosaic and Sultana hops Star Cloud - hazy IPA of Citra, Cashmere, and Motueka hops All the beers were delight and a flavor bomb on the pallet. Additionally, food is required with your beverage per local ordinance. Modern Times has a little burger joint set up to order from with your beer. The little joint is serves entirely 100% plant based food. I ordered a single slider and, honestly, it was super delicious. Highly would recommend and come back with more friends!

Yelp
One of the largest and best breweries in the San Diego Area. They seem to specialize in Hazys which I almost always order but everything they make is excellent. They have multiple locations but I've only been to the main location in Point Loma which is a great space to relax in. Also, if you're into coffee they roast their own beans and have a coffee bar.

Yelp
I just gotta say, my visit to Modern Times Brewery was freaking awesome! Seriously, I had the best time ever! And let me tell you, Carmen, the dude serving us, totally rocked! Carmen knows his stuff when it comes to beer, man. He hooked us up with the most amazing brews. He was super friendly and helpful, making sure we got exactly what we wanted. I mean, this guy made the whole experience even better! Let's talk about the beer, folks. Modern Times Brewery knows how to brew some seriously kick-ass stuff. Each sip was like a party in my mouth--flavors exploding and making me do a happy dance. They had so many different kinds, from light and refreshing to bold and full-bodied. I couldn't get enough of those tasty brews! The vibe at Modern Times was chill and laid-back, just the way I like it. It felt like hanging out with good friends, enjoying some damn good beer. And let me tell you, the place had a cool, modern vibe going on. It was comfortable and inviting, with a lively crowd adding to the fun atmosphere. Oh, and did I mention Carmen? This guy deserves a shout-out! He made sure we were having a blast and that our glasses were never empty. He's the real MVP of Modern Times Brewery, no doubt about it! If you're looking for a rad time and some seriously tasty beer, Modern Times Brewery is where it's at. Carmen and the whole crew know how to make you feel welcome and serve up some killer brews. I can't wait to go back and have another epic beer adventure at Modern Times Brewery. Cheers, my friends!
