Google
Got on each of their poke bowls. Shoyu, half and half and spicy. The spicy is spicy but good! The bowl is just poke over rice. Got mochi doughnuts and they were really good like it was made to order! They dip the doughnuts when you order. Their doughnuts taste much better then other name brand places!

New mochi donut shop on Taraval in the Sunset. As a local I walked by and saw their soft/trial opening on 8/26 and couldn't resist the freshly baked mochi donuts and sweet flavor toppings. Donuts were moist and chewy and the natural sesame coating is delicious! Friendly staff and I will definitely be back to try more flavors.

The Matcha and Churro flavors are fantastic. I stopped in on Saturday 8/16 and experienced a trial shift/soft opening sort of thing and was blown away by the flavor profile. I'm super excited to have this spot on Taraval street.

Popped in for an early afternoon meal and sweet treat. We were not disappointed. The Mochi donuts were made fresh. We got chocolate, cookies and cream, churro, lilikoi and macha and they were delicious! Still warm when we ate them. Cut them into pieces and we all shared. The texture was fantastic and the taste divine. I got the spicy poke bowl and the fish was so fresh and the spicy level was perfect. Too large a serving for one meal so my dinner is set. This neighborhood is so lucky to have this gem. We will definitely be back

Since their soft opening I have been stopping by for a sweet treat. The whole team has been amazing but a special shout out to Bel, Manuel and Kevin (the ones I’ve met), for always going above and beyond to make everyone feel appreciated.

Yelp
Came here to try a mochi donut and enjoyed it! So much that I placed an order for 3 dozen to bring my coworkers for their thanksgiving celebration. I arrived first thing in the morning but wanted the daytime deal of $24 per dozen, so I gave the girl my order and said I would pick up during that window. I asked if I should pay now to secure the order but she said to just come later and they would make it fresh, like they always do. The girl wrote my order down and I left. Around noon I was in a big rush so I called to ask them to make the order now so I wouldn't have to wait for them to be made when I got there. Whoever I spoke to said they did not have an order written down. I describe the girl who took my order as well as the notepad it was on but it was lost. She offered to take my order now, but I couldn't recall all the flavors they have. Since I was already driving in the car and with my baby, I chose to just forget the order and arrive empty handed. Really sucked. I wish they would accept preorders or have allowed me to pay their deal price and pick up later. There was also a lack of sympathy on their end for their lost order which was super frustrating. I don't think I'll consider this place for a large order in the future, but their donuts are good otherwise. I give the donuts 5 stars but my experience leaves this 2 stars.

Yelp
We were going for a walk down Taraval when we stumbled upon Modo. We were surprised to find it but delighted to see that it was their soft opening (maybe it was their grand opening) so they had a few deals going on. We decided to go with the "buy 12, get 6 free" deal. I will give the benefit of the doubt that since it was the soft/grand opening, the workers were still figuring it out. Almost 20 minutes for 18 donuts is kind of too much. The pins that they were giving out, supposedly for the first 100 people, was sporadic too. It was whenever the cashier remembered to give it out. The donuts were really good though. Maybe the reason for the long wait was because they dip each individual donut based off the order (although, the dipping and then immediately putting it in the box means that it can get messy).

Yelp
Still the best mochi donut place in SF. I just wish they had more varied flavors. Got similar flavors to last time, the standouts are def pandan, cookies and cream, and cinnamon. Wanted the seasonal apple flavor but they didn't have it. Sad. Got the half dozen deal! The staff is sooo friendly and throw in a treat if you've been waiting for so long. Heart them! Love Modo!

Yelp
4.5 STARS At first glance, they may look like bootie beads but they're not. Coming in HOT... Unlike other shops, MoDo's mochi donuts ($3 each) are fried-to-order and have the most satisfying, bouncy chew with a soft, airy interior. They're then dipped with a velvety glaze of your choice. The glaze hardens as the donut cools but they're best enjoyed hot. SO glad MoDo has made it to the city so I don't have to trek to Santa Clara for it anymore! O T H E R I N F O: * MoDo started in 2017 in Hawaii. Their first Bay Area pop-up was in 2018 (Mitsuwa) and they later opened their brick and mortar in Santa Clara in 2020. * SF location (same owner as Santa Clara) is in soft opening phase with a grand opening: 9.12.25-9.14.25. Promo: Free pin for first 100 customers. Buy one dozen, get 6 donuts free. * Takeout only (no seating). Order online or via kiosk. * Rotating flavors: About 10-12 each week. My personal fav are the cookies & cream + strawberry (not available this week). * They also sell poke rice bowls ($17) or poke by the pound ($23): shoyu or spicy. Student discount: $12 poke bowl. - Spicy tuna poke bowl needs work. It was hella salty with an intense miso/doenjang (fermented soybean) flavor. And, it was served over steaming hot rice (should be warm or room temp).

Yelp
Currently soft opening. I happened to walk by while running an errand. Peeked inside, and decided to go in. They offer mochi donuts, drinks, and Hawaiian poke. As it's a soft opening there's no poke yet. I ordered - * black sesame mochi donut * milk chocolate mochi donut The donuts are made to order. Then each one is dipped into the flavor you requested. Put into plastic containers I took them home. I'm not an expert on mochi donuts. But the black sesame frosting stuck to my fingers as I took a bite each time. Should it? I'll have the milk chocolate one later. Unlike old establishments Modo doesn't take cash. Order at the kiosk, online or in person at the counter. Good luck with the grand opening next week. Located where Stix used to be.

Yelp
Fresh mochi donuts made to order! The donuts are dipped right when you order, so they come out warm and fresh. Lots of donut flavors to choose from. I tried a few flavors and my favorite was the black sesame. They also sell poke bowls or by the pound. There's a kiosk for easy ordering, but you can also order at the register. Service was friendly and quick! So excited for Modo to have a location in SF! I'll definitely be coming back to try more flavors.

Yelp
The service was fairly quick, but the front where you order and pay is a tight squeeze. There is a TV with the menu, and tucked away in a corner is a kiosk machine to take your order. There is no seating at this location, so I took my order to the park across the street. I got 1/2 pound shoyu poke; the bowl was smaller than I'd hoped and the poke was a bit bland (maybe the other bowls have more flavor), but you do get a good amount of fish in it. But overall decent poke bowl!

Yelp
I love Modo Hawaii!! I've been a long time customer at their Santa Clara location, and have was excited to see that they are opening up shop in SF. Right now they are doing a soft open, so some product is not available yet as they are awaiting shipment and figuring out the final logistics for a smooth grand open. That said, the service is great. I asked the employee working at the time, his name was Irvin, what he recommended, which was the black sesame, lilikoi, and matcha, which were all really good. The donuts are fried fresh to order and it takes about 5 minutes or so to receive them from the time you order (which is on a kiosk). So good, so crispy and chewy that are freshly dipped. So excited for their grand open!!

Yelp
Very fast service, and great portions! Picked up a poke bowl with 50/50 spicy and garlic. The spicy poke was made fresh!

Yelp
Fun addition to Taraval! Came before the grand opening and ever who worked there were so sweet! Loved their mochi donuts and poke! Smaller bowl than I'd hope, but still very delicious!

Yelp
I've been waiting for a spot like this to open up near me in the city! I work in the neighborhood and I was craving poke. Luckily for me, I came across Modo on DoorDash during their soft opening phase. I ordered a half and half bowl which comes with the shoyu and spicy tuna poke. I have been waiting for a place to open up near me that is just straight up Hawaiian poke. I was getting so tired of shops that do edamame, cucumbers, and seaweed salad with a little scoop of fish and dare to call that poke - you know exactly what kind of places I'm talking about. Modo is definitely what I've been looking for! The poke was simple, fresh, and delicious on top of some white rice - that's all I need. I'm not saying it was perfect. There are some things I'd tweak like not serving it over piping hot rice (especially for DoorDash delivery) and as someone else mentioned in their review salt levels and flavors. Also to note - I know it's the city, so about $18 bucks for a pretty good sized bowl with fresh ingredients is a very fair price. It looks like their main thing is the mochi donuts, so I'll definitely have to go and try those. Since they're also in their soft opening phase, I can only imagine things getting better. I can see this becoming one of my go to spots. Overall, I'd give Modo a solid 4.5!

Yelp
Stupid how good this place is! Every donut is made on the spot, so they come out hot, soft in the center and crispy on the outside. It makes all other mochi donuts so bad compared to this. Just expect a little bit of a wait to make your donut. The poke is also really good. Had the spicy, spicy garlic, and shoyu. All were good but we liked the spicy garlic and shoyu. The spicy has the mayo but the others were shoyu based. Brings me back to Hawaii. Will come here over any other place.

Yelp
I visited this place during the soft opening and ordered a dozen of the donuts for "scientific purposes." Placing an order was an absolute delight for introverts and antisocial snackers alike, there was no human interaction, no judgment, just a screen with the compassion of a vending machine. It didn't beg for confirmation when I ordered 12 donuts, and when I added a few more, it didn't question my sanity. It simply accepted me. A true ally. About the donuts: fresh. Legit fresh. I was there for the holy instance of watching donuts being dipped right into the glossy, dreamy cream glazes. If you have a soft spot for donuts with high gooey drama, I suggest you have it within 5 minutes of being served. If it is a firmer, more "I have my life together" texture? Then you have to wait for 15 minutes, and the glaze still hardens just right. Still dangerous, Still delicious. But the tragedy is every single time I have gone to get one after work time, they have already sold out. Full of hope and end-of-day exhaustion, I step into the place, and when I walk out, I have nothing apart from a vague scent of sugar. It is like my motivation on a Monday morning.

Yelp
Really good mochi donuts. We ordered a few flavors: matcha, pandan, black sesame, ube, churro, and tiramisu. They were all delicious, with a nice chewy texture and perfectly sweet icing or cinnamon sugar dusting, depending on the flavor. My favorite was the sesame, super flavorful and unique.

Yelp
So excited that they have another location! We used to frequent their location in Torrance and were heartbroken to see them leave. Their mochi donuts are the best donuts you can find in the bay. They are so fresh, they're still warm when they hand them to you. Plenty of flavor options, it's impossible to go wrong. Shoutout to their server for recommending their poke, it was fantastic.

Yelp
Service, A-1! Good people working there, Bell who I think is the owner is so nice as well as her workers. The donuts are amazing but the POKE is the best poke in this area hands down. It's the closest thing youll get to Hawaii. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Happened upon them for lunch today on their opening weekend. Got a half and half poke bowl (half shoyu and half spicy) and it was passable. Spicy was too spicy, and the shoyu was too bland and had too strong a sesame oil flavor. The piping hot rice really made the fish too warm, it should be slightly warm or maybe even ambient. Also they didn't have any utensils to give, which was weird. The lady had to ask everyone around for something after I asked, and they were able to procure some spoons.

Yelp
This is my first time trying this place and the service is amazing! The food also look amazing! I ordered .5 lb poke and 1 mochi donut. When I was waiting for a while for my order, one of the servers apologized and gave me a poke bowl on the house as an apology for waiting for a while. I would definitely come back here!
