But the well-browned brisket and gravy at Pastrami Masters is just as desirable; ask that the gravy be served on the side and pour it on the sandwich with each bite. But to be truthful, the Middle Eastern food that shares the menu is even better, from a miraculous mujadara that’s strictly vegetarian though you swear it tastes like meat, to a baba ganoush substantially better than any other in Williamsburg, to a chicken shawarma platter that provides enough food for two. "A recently opened, family-run deli a block from the southeastern edge of Prospect Park with a sparse storefront and most space devoted to the kitchen, where the owner and his two eldest sons prepare meats to order. Pastrami is the centerpiece — sourced as already brined, smoked, and seasoned offsite, then given an extra layer of seasoning and steamed for hours — while the regular brisket is slowly braised and the corned beef simmers in stock. The burger has a spiced patty that leans toward kebab flavors, and a “Brooklyn cheesesteak” swaps brisket for rib eye; everything is halal, which draws its own clientele. The owners did neighborhood outreach and sampling to introduce authentic Jewish-style deli pastrami to locals; portioning ranges from a preferred “small” up to a half-pound “medium” sandwich (the latter is $17), and the shop defaults to rye and mustard though the owner prefers a toasted roll with mustard and mayo." - Tammie Teclemariam
