Mohsen Review - Kensington - London - The Infatuation

"A Persian restaurant in Kensington, Mohsen is a quaint neighbourhood spot that smells like freshly baked naan at all times. The servers run around like they’re hosting a hectic dinner party at their own house, and there’s always at least one person in the small, art-filled room trying to get hold of someone to ask for more bread. Families gather around long tables where thick, refreshing mast-o-khair and smoky kashk-e-bademjan are wiped clean in five minutes, and specials like excellent baghali polo ba mahicheh take centre stage. You should also order the buttery, grilled koobideh with confidence, and tender skewers of citrussy saffron and turmeric-stained chicken that pair perfectly with mounds of fluffy rice. Bring a couple of friends, split some dips to start, and always end with a pot of strong Persian tea." - Rianne Shlebak

I recently visited Mohsen Restaurant and had an amazing experience. The Kashk-e Bademjan was absolutely delicious — rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. You could tell it was made fresh with real care. The koobideh with saffron rice was just as impressive; the meat was juicy and well-seasoned, and you could really taste the saffron in the rice, giving it that authentic Persian flavor that’s hard to find. The service was also fantastic — friendly, attentive, and made the whole meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommend if you’re looking for true, high-quality Persian cuisine!

A truly lovely family restaurant with outstanding food. We enjoyed dinner, delicious range of food and celebrated a birthday. The owners are friendly, the food came quickly and prices are reasonable. Highly recommended!

The food here is absolutely amazing! Every dish was full of flavor and you can really tell it’s made with love. The service was brilliant—super friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. I’d definitely recommend Number 26 on the menu; it was a standout for me. And don’t leave without trying the tea and baklava—it’s the perfect way to end the meal!

The Best Iranian Restaurant in London! I’ve been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years, and it never disappoints. The food is always authentic, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service is absolutely perfect—friendly, attentive, and welcoming every single time. If you’re visiting London and haven’t tried this place, you’re truly missing out. A must-visit for anyone who loves Persian cuisine!

Google
This is the best Persian restaurant I've been to, having been to quite a few. And some of the best food I've had in London. We were a group of five and it was great to get recommendations from the chef on combinations of flavour, and dishes. for us to share. Amazing variety of rice dishes. Also good for the vegetarian in our group. Very nice welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Google
Mohsen is an absolute gem for Persian cuisine in London! The kebabs are juicy, the freshly baked naan is irresistible, and the rice dishes are fragrant and flavorful. The stews, like ghormeh sabzi and gheimeh bademjan, are rich and authentic. What makes this place special is the warm hospitality, generous portions, and perfectly balanced flavors. Whether you’re new to Persian food or a fan, Mohsen is a must-visit!

Yelp
Five stars all the way! Some of the best Persian food I've ever had. They have been around for 30 years and it shows, because the food is exceptional and the service is amazing. So welcoming and warm. I love how cute the place is as well. There is indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
Good food, great service! The barg is delicious and the tea is strong. The Fesenjan has big chunks of delicious chicken in it.

Yelp
Wonderful owner-operated Persian restaurant in West Kensington. The owners are amazingly friendly and so helpful in guiding newbies through the menu. The food was magnificent, from each appetizer (freshly baked naan, mast o khiar, hummus, and kashk o bademjan) and all of the mains (fesenjan, shirin polo ba morgh, bamieh, and addas polo). The Shiraz was excellent and the atmosphere was wonderful family neighborhood restaurant. The next time I'm in London, I will be sure to return!

Yelp
Fun experience trying Persian food for the first time. Excellent service and large portions that we shared. No one left hungry. Authentic decor in a family run restaurant. We really liked the naan bread with dips. Also, the lamb was tender and juicy. I really liked the kebobs.

Yelp
After a long day of travel, this was a perfectly welcoming and delicious spot for dinner. The owner and staff are gracious hosts, attending to all the little details to make guests comfortable. The naan are baked in a tandoor in the front of the small restaurant and each dish was delicious. Highly recommend this spot in Kensington.

Yelp
Had a nice dinner here with friends on a recent trip to London. Owner / operators were very cordial and accommodating with our group We ordered a wide selection of dips and naan to start, and they were all excellent. Their grilled naan was perfectly crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside...a great "vehicle" to eat the tasty dips. The appetizers were followed by several main dishes...the best of which was the skewered grilled chicken served with rice. A fun night was had by all, but remember to bring CASH as they do not take credit cards.

Yelp
Amazing traditional persian food!!!! The owner Mohsen and his wife sit in and hang out and everyone who works there is from Iran as well. Such sweet people, and lovely authentic iranian food. Definitely coming back

Yelp
I wish I could give them 10 stars. We are visiting London from US and found Mohsen through Yelp. We have THE most delicious Persian food tonight. They make fresh bread which was AMAZING. Staff so professional and friendly. The taste and quality of their food was outstanding. Highly recommend it.

Yelp
We found it on Yelp and decided to give a try. Long story short - we ate here 3 days in a row, enjoying same dish - Koobideh with Naan bread being baked on the spot. It is really fresh, really tasty - I wish I would stay in London one more day just to have it once more. Owner is really nice guy, we met his family. It's a family run business with great taste, great meat - worth a visit. Definitely recommend

Yelp
It's very delicious food, home cooking style, and quality. Never the less, the lady in charged on the restaurant is very very friendly. I do recommend this place.

Yelp
Awesome Persian food in Kensington, London. Absolutely recommended! Nice staff. Real Persian food!

Yelp
So glad I found a delicious Persian restaurant in London! The place is relatively small (from an American perspective), but they are very big on service and flavor. It seems like a lot of locals/regulars go there since the serves knew almost everyone by name. The chicken kabob and koobideh were delicious and you obviously need to get the mast moosir with it. Love that they bake fresh bread! Ps. They sell doogh and if you haven't tried it already, you need to!

Yelp
This is my favourite Persian place in the entire world... yes the WORLD. I travel alot for work and have sampled the persian cuisine on many continents. (Disclaimer: never actually in the middle east but none the less). This is by far the best and it happens to be within walking distance of my house! Yay for me. The food is very fresh and the service is wonderful. I've sampled many of the offerings here, and it's hard to choose what I think is best. The chicken kabobs are soft, tender and juicy. The stews are flavourful yet not overbearing. The bread cooked fresh and plentiful. Basically you can't go wrong at this place. My only gripe about this place is that it is cash only, which I always seem to forget. FYI There is a cash point at the Tesco down the road on Cromwell so make sure to stop by there on the way. Whether I am down the road or across the globe, whenever I am craving Persian food this is the place that comes to mind.

Yelp
Adorable restaurant, we were kindly greeted into the restaurant by the owner. We ordered a starter of their in house made to order bread with hummus and it was absolutely delicious. I ordered the chicken plate with rice and it was absolutely delicious. The amount of flavor packed in that chicken was incredible. Once finished, we had some of their in house tea which is also fantastic post meal. We look forward to coming back here when we visit London in the future.

Yelp
Took the hike to this amazing restaurant, and so glad we did!! The staff was in bright spirits and incredibly helpful, I got to watch the naan man make my bread right in front of me fresh from the awesome tandoori oven they have sitting in front of the restaurant, the back room is colorful and beautifully lit, i assume for big parties/families as is Persian custom! I rarely eat meat but the saffron chicken and lamb kebab was so moist and tasty! The panir sabzi was super fresh! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We are from Los Angeles and were visiting London for a few days. We found Mohsen on Yelp and took quite a long taxi ride to get here. It was well worth the drive! The owners entertained us all night and were so accommodating and sweet. Their food was absolutely amazing and service was even better. I highly recommend this restaurant and will go back whenever I return to London!

Yelp
We were saying in a nearby AirBnB and it was raining so we didn't want to walk far for dinner. Luckily Mohsen was a few minutes walk away from where we were staying. Not being familiar with Persian food we had no idea what to order. The owner's wife was extremely gracious and helpful in describing the various menu items and made suggestions to ensure we ordered a variety of dishes that would complement each other. We were very happy with the food which had flavours we hadn't tasted before. The quality of the food was good, the service was impeccable and the the overall experience was great. They don't have a website so it's difficult to research the menu etc. but I highly recommend a visit, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
One of the best kababs I have ever had! The chicken melts in your mouth, the koonideh is really good and the rice is amazing! The tea is on a league of its own. I'm so happy they sell the mixture!!
google avatar

Kimberly Y.

Yelp
I came here with a group of people for lunch. It's a small cafe that seats around 15-20 ppl. It's a family run business that really cares about their food. They make their own homemade naan in front of the store. The chicken was super moist, but the best thing on the menu was the baby lamb chops. They give you butter to add to the rice as well. Very comfortable atmosphere with kind owners. If you're in the area, definitely give this place a try!

Yelp
Average food nice ambiance mediocre service ! The koobideh( ground beef) Jujeh ( chicken) kabob was good ! The steak was average . Only thing we weren't quite satisfied was our bill . We felt they overcharged us!

Yelp
One of the best food I had in London. Very clean, tasty, extremely friendly staff.. can't deny my happiness in this place

Yelp
This is the best place to have Persian food in London! The koobideh kabob, Fesenjoon and Ghorme Sabzi were amazing! The dessert was incredibly delicious as well! Definitely worth it to try!

Yelp
After checking in to my hotel down the road I poped in based off the previous Yelp reviews. The establishment is small like many other middle eastern joints but intimate and quiet. The staff were very friendly and prompt with their service. The menu was fairly straightforward. Most of their plates offer lamb as the protein but each offering had a different cut of lamb albeit marinated/cooked in a similar fashion. I ordered Hummus, Naan, and Chelo Chenjeh. Hummus was as expected but the Naan came to me different than others I have ordered in the past. It was made fresh in a tandoor oven near the restaurant entrance. It was thinner and more crispy than other naan breads I have eaten. Don't get me wrong. It was delicious but just found it interesting how differently it was prepared. Anyway, for those who might not know, Chelo is traditional Persian rice and is cooked almost as if it was pasta as opposed to the traditional method used around the world and is served with a small portion of saffron rice on top. The Chenjeh is lamb filet. Food was excellent. Lamb was cooked to perfection and paired very well with the Chelo.

Yelp
What a gem for homemade authentic middle eastern food. Small and you BYOB but the service is perfect and the food stellar. The chicken with saffron sauce is jaw dropping

Yelp
If I didn't live on the other side of London, I would eat here all the time. I make time for this place b/c it's worth it. Truly the best chicken I've ever eaten. Super moist and flavorFULL. I recommend this place to anyone that is in west London. The bread that they make in the front of the restaurant is so good. The variety of spreads are amazing. So good to eat with the breads and the meats. Portions are great. I recommend ordering the combo and sharing with someone else and also ordering the spreads. You'll get the best of all the flavors and dishes. I love that the food doesn't feel oily or heavy. Tastes fresh and homemade. Cash only.

Yelp
I was surprised by how much I loved their food. I had chicken skewers and naan with sauce. Yummy!!!!
google avatar

Kambiz D.

Yelp
Far superior to Persian food you find in the US even LA. Amazing kabab. Juicy and tasty. Tried Chenjeh and shishkabab. A+ for food and service

Kt M.

Yelp
This restaurant has great salad. Try the chopped salad #6 with lemon dressing. The humus can't be beat. Great service bread is made fresh and baked in front of you. Lamb filets were cooked to perfection! Enjoy.

Yelp
I didnt expect the service I get in US Persian restaurants, but it seems like the Persian restaurants take price gauging to a new level. All the stuff you get for free in the US are charged in every restaurant I have visited in the UK: charges for bread, cheese and herbs, etc. The portions are smaller, the food is reasonably well cooked, and the prices are acceptable. The restaurants are all fairly small including this one. The kicker is this: I order water, they offer bottled water. They bring a plastic water, already openes, and the water tastes just like tap water: and they charges somewhere between 4-6 Britsh Pounds for it!.

Yelp
Legit Persian perfection. Genuinely can't be faulted. Nice intimate atmosphere, great flavours, and those freshly made breads. OMGEEE

Yelp
Dropped in for late tea on Friday night, while staying at nearby hotel. Just asked hostess to give me whatever food she recommended. It was just wonderful. Atmosphere is unpretentious, friendly and genuine. Families couples and single diners all looked relaxed and well fed. Very reasonable prices and you can see why this place doesn't need to advertise. An amazing little place!

Yelp
Mohsen's restaurant is truly the best Iranian/Persian place in London. Owners are very polite and nice Food is fresh and delicious Definitely recommend Mohsen's if you like great Persian food I am definitely coming back

Yelp
Wonderful people. Wonderful kabob. As an Iranian visiting London stumbled on this gem and what a fine!!! Delicious!

Heather W.

Yelp
Small and cozy. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was my first time eating Iranian food and our server was happy to help us find the right dish. We got the sampler for two so we could try a bit of everything. Try the nahn and hummus. Made fresh and in house.
google avatar

Aaron F.

Yelp
All the food was very good and you get a lot of food for a reasonable amount of money! I got the two skewers of lamb and both were great, I'd recommend getting the Naaan as well they cook it right in front of you and it's also amazing!
google avatar

Clair H.

Yelp
Amazing little find. I have had many a persian kebab but I find mohsen's are to a very high standard. Juicy and succulent, you can't go wrong with their kebab koubideh served with rice and fresh bread from the tanoor oven.

Heather J.

Yelp
First time eating Persian food. The service was fantastic. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. The portions were huge! The naan and eggplant dip were delicious, and I don't typically like eggplant. The reason for four stars is that everything had a sour flavor (think limes), and I didn't prefer the flavor. I think that's a flavor preference, not an execution problem on the part of the restaurant.

Homan H.

Yelp
Amazing Persian food, defiantly can hang with Los Angles places, if not better! Fresh bread made on sight old school style! Mohammad makes the best bread OG style!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great restaurant. I'm a fan. A beautiful selection of kebabs, bread and dip. The Naan bread is thin and sesame seed coated. Perfect with the shallot blended dip. Kebabs are cooked fresh and served with a grilled tomato and either rice or bread. The rice is beautiful - not dry at all. I have tried the minced lamb and diced lamb kebabs - for my tastes the minced one is better - but only down to preference. It's not spicy, just perfectly cooked. Staff were friendly on my visit - a very broad customer range - really nice to see. I was served quickly and the lady waiting on me was very attentive. I had bread, dip, double skewers of meat, rice and tomato. With a coke and water - all came to £21 - I couldn't finish it. Portions are generous. Will happily return.

Yelp
One of my London favorites. A little out of the way, but worth the walk from Earls Court or High Street Kensington tube station. Excellent food, beautifully prepared and served. Great service.
google avatar

Yerim H.

Yelp
Great food. Good atmosphere. Easy to reach from the earls court station. Friendly staff.

Yelp
I so wish I had found this place years ago. Had the hummus and olives and it was some of the best I've had. Then had chicken boneless and lamb koobideh. It was cooked just right juicy tasteful awesome!! You Must go !

Yelp
On a recent visit to London we tried this restaurant. Great ambiance, food handling and service. The food is absolutely amazing. Clearly use of absolutely freshest ingredients and cooked to perfection.

Yelp
Mohsen was recommended to me by an Iranian friend. What an excellent recommendation! My boyfriend and I tried it last Friday after going to the rugby. The menu is pretty compact: a few starters, a list of grills and a daily special. I cannot pretend to know much about Persian cuisine or what the Farci names for the dishes we ordered were but what we did order was delicious -- every single, generously portioned dish. Starters: feta cheese and mixed herbs, aubergine and walnut dip (this was especially good), yoghurt with cucumber (like tsatziki) and freshly made flatbread. Main: we shared a mixed grill which consisted of skewers of tender grilled chicken, lamb chops, minced lamb and grilled tomatoes, served with basmati rice topped with fragrant saffron rice. The meat was grilled to perfection and the rice beautifully fluffy. Don't forget to use the flatbread to mop up the 'jus' from the grilled meats! The service is surly (although I am convinced that beneath that brusque facade the 'mama' of the house has a heart of gold) but this is no fine-dining experience. The interior is simple and rustic (proper rustice, not 'designer' rustic!) One goes for excepetional food. In and out... With leftovers kindly doggy-bagged for lunch the next day. I am fortunate to live very close by so this will definitely be a staple dining venue going forward.

Yelp
This is an incredible place! I went here on a recent trip through the area and as other reviewers have said, it's easily one of the best, most reasonably priced, most authentic Iranian/Persian restaurants I've ever visited. The decor is relatively unremarkable. The service was attentive, yet not overbearing... and, my goodness, was the food ever excellent! The spice levels were perfect, the meat was all very high quality, tender, and succulent, and the starters were outstanding. Everything brought to our table was truly exceptional... all the way to the flatbread prepared and cooked in the front window for all to see. To reinforce though, this place is ALL about the food. Great for a meal with a friend or colleague, but probably not the place for a romantic first date. I was there with a colleague and for both of us, the bill was less than 40 GBP, and we left totally stuffed. So good! I will return!!
