Where To Find the Best Coffee and Tea in Queens | Eater NY

"A partnership between a Yemeni American family — Astoria locals for decades — and a Guatemalan American coffee guru, with direct sourcing from small farms in Guatemala and Yemen where the fruits of the coffee plants are hand-picked and air-dried with the beans then removed, producing fruit-forward notes. Yemeni beans are imported green, roasted in Long Island, and shuttled into the Astoria storefront to brew into drinks like maple oat lattes. The space is modern, with sage green, light wood, and golden accents that extend into a quiet room behind the shop." - Caroline Shin

Google
Mokafe is honestly one of my favorite little coffee shops. The desserts and sandwiches are always so good, and it’s become a go-to spot for me and my husband. It’s also perfect for a fun girl’s night out after walking around Will Street Trade. Super cozy and welcoming—I’d definitely recommend it to both families and friends.

Google
went in here cuz it looked great, The coffee was good. Ended up getting a free strawberry Dubai chocolate because I gave a five-star review. We got the cheesecake sampler. The chocolate was good overall would come back

Google
Mokafé has such a great atmosphere—warm, inviting, and perfect for relaxing or catching up. Their pastries especially the Pistachio croissant are absolutely delicious, and the coffee is rich and flavorful. The Chagaccino was so delicious!Definitely a spot worth coming back to!

Google
beautiful cafe, I love to bring people here. the coffee is almost $10 a cup which is a little crazy, but it's very good coffee, and a good treat every once in a while. always clean, has fast service, and can get busy sometimes. the pastries and sandwiches are tasty as well, I've tried the honeycomb bread and the avocado toast. my go to drink is the honey cinnamon latte.

Google
I first visited in May 2025 and was mesmerized by the flavor of the coffee. I went 3 times after and had different coffee and cakes. All delicious. I recently visited twice and had coffee that I had before and it was not of the same quality. I was very disappointed! The coffee is weaker and the cardamom flavor is too much. It makes the coffee taste very bitter. I really liked this spot and sad I wont be visiting again. The quality has dropped!

Google
How has it taken me so long to try this cafe?! The pastries are OMG and they have Dubai chocolate at a reasonable price. I enjoyed a pistachio latte while sitting in the cafe. Plenty of seating and the music provided a good coffee shop vibe. I'll be back again very soon to try more pastries and lattes, they have a great & unique variety of both.

Google
Easily one of my favorite cafes of all time. Delicious, high-quality, Palestinian and Yemeni coffee. Sleek and recognizable brand with some of the most consistently delicious pastries you can find. If only they were closer to my hometown, but this is literally a place that I make the trip to the city for.

Google
First time visiting Mokafé Coffee House and I was really impressed! The drink I got was smooth, refreshing, and absolutely delicious—definitely one of the better iced coffees I’ve had lately. The atmosphere is modern yet cozy, with stylish green decor and comfortable seating that makes it a perfect spot to relax or catch up with friends. Great vibes all around. I’ll definitely be coming back for another round!

Yelp
Mokafé has a total of 6 locations spread through NY and NJ. This one is located on 8th ave between 43rd and 44th. Mokafé got its name from an ancient trading port in Yemen, Mohka and a famous coffee based drink, mocha. I learned that it starts with Fika. Fika is a state of mind that embraces the process of slowing down in a fast paced environment and appreciating the unique notes and flavors in coffee and the company around you. I was worried items were going to be sold out so I had opted to order through DoorDash while I was on the train. I pre-ordered Knafa Pistachio Chocolate, Knafa Croissant, Pastrami & Cheddar, Avocado Toast, Mo Bear and Lavender Lemonade. I arrived a few minutes later than the pick-up time, luckily the barista hadn't had the chance to make my order so I was able to ask for it served in-house than to-go. I was most eager to try their Knafa Chocolate Bar famously known as Dubai Chocolate. Whatever you have heard about this delectable dessert, it's true! For the croissant, have it as is! If warmed up, although delicious, can be extremely messy! Be ready to lick those fingers!! The lavender lemonade is worth the try. I can't speak on the Pastrami & Cheddar because I wasn't the one who ate it. The Avocado Toast was well savored. The picked onions gave it a bit of sweetness. Sadly, they were sold out of the Mo Bears when I got there so I did not get to try that. The cafe has a total of 3ish seating floors with the main floor having comfy lounge chairs and counter tables by the entry point and more seating across the serving bar. There are also additional seating a couple steps down next to the code locked one-stall bathrooms with a ramp access. More seating can be found lower level and the loft up above. The loft even has a cozy fireplace. This is a nice place to hang out. Additional note: baristas do not like their photos captured. Please be kind and avoid their faces.

Yelp
Lovely 3 floor cafe with a cozy ambience. If you're looking for a place to work or study, this spot might be worth a shot as it's spacious and pretty quiet even on the weekend. They also have wifi and outlets. In terms of drinks, I got some matcha and it was pretty good. In terms of food, they didn't have any gluten free options, which was a bummer. That being said, the only reason I didn't give this cafe a higher rating was because of the service. As I was ordering, the employee had difficulty hearing what I was saying. Instead of asking me nicely to repeat myself, the employee rolled her eyes at me and responded to me with a tone of frustration in her voice. This place had been on my list for a while so I was really excited to finally be able to try it out, but the service really ruined my experience.

Yelp
Mokafe is and always will have really solid drinks and desserts. My mom & I shared a pistachio tiramisu with an adeni chai and an iced chai latte. The pistachio tiramisu was very good as it was not overbearingly sweet and you could taste both the pistachio and the tiramisu distinctively. The adeni chai was very good (as it typically is). The only item that missed the mark was the iced chai latte because it was a bit too sweet for my liking. However, Mokafe is still five stars in my book.

Yelp
Perfect place to get work done. They have WiFi and lots of seating space. I got an iced matcha here which was very good and strong. I added blueberry and requested almond milk and it came to little over $10. A little on the pricier side. There are tons of pastries to choose from!

Yelp
Mokafe is nearby the bus station so stopped by when I hopped off. Place is clean and staff was very kind, for a place in midtown, it had an insane amount of seating. Coffee was good and the sandwich was delicious. Unfortunately couldn't get their signature croissant because it was out of stock. The pricing here is quiet high but it is a midtown spot. Would definitely suggest if in the area, especially if you're looking for somewhere to sit. 2.5 floors of seating

Yelp
Came here around 10am on a weekday hoping to try the knafa croissant but it was unfortunately sold out by then. I got the pistachio croissant instead, which was delicious. They heated it up before serving. I also got the cutest chocolate knafa mobears. One was filled with the classic pistachio knafa and the other was filled with biscoff knafa. I preferred the pistachio filling, but both were definitely tasty! They have an upstairs and a downstairs level so there should be no issues finding seating. Interior was clean. All the desserts and pastries looked delicious so I plan on coming back to try more! I'm definitely eyeing the knafa croissant for next time!!

Yelp
Mokafe was worth stopping by. A cup of cappuccino and a pesto mozzarella warmed up! Plenty of seating options, dont be fooled by the look of it. They have seating up and downstairs. I cant wait to come back here

Yelp
Met up with a few friends here. There is a lot of seating space and the area was pretty clean. I only had a mint tea but my friends said their drinks were good. We also grabbed a few of their cookies, some of which they heated up. Highlights were their pistachio knafeh cookies which had oozing warm chocolate inside, ube cookie that had some sort of marshmallow-like filling, and the lavender raspberry lemon cookie. Their other desserts looked good as well but we didn't try those. Overall a good place to sit and have a small bite to eat/drink around time square.

Yelp
Super beautiful interior and high-quality food. The chocolate bears stole my heart! However the staff is seemingly very distracted and preoccupied. Had several confusing/off-putting interactions at this particular location. I will note I visited during a Friday night, which is definitely not typical cafe hours, but I was still taken back. I got an extra drink for free because the worker prepared the first one incorrectly. With that said, I paid $35+ total which surprised me a bit too, but that may just be Manhattan cafe standard.

Yelp
Everything was sweet and way too expensive! I dont care if it's a 7$ cookies but it must be worth the money! I wouldnt trade Levaine cookies for their hard cookies. Khana brownies in pic, too sweet for my already sweet tooth!!!

Yelp
I was on my way from meet my friend for dinner in the area. She was running a little behind and I was too early for our reservation so I stopped in Mokafe for a coffee and a warm place to sit while I waited. I asked for an iced coffee with a tiny, tiny dash of half & half. I am very particular about this and I make sure I say tiny, tiny dash every single time because otherwise I'm always disappointed. Well, it didn't work and I was very disappointed. It was basically iced milk with a dash of coffee. I did not taste any coffee at all.

Yelp
Tried the viral Dubai chocolate here, and it is MINDBLOWINGLY good!!! Everything looks delicious too, would totally come back to try all of their gorgeous baked goods. Also they have nice clean restroom, lots of seating. Great place to stop and rest your feet a bit!

Yelp
The knafa croissant was super good! I would come back just to get it. There is lots of seating and it is very clean. There is three stories, so it is definitely a good place to do work. The service is also super friendly.

Yelp
Walking in, i was astonished by the ambiance of this cafe. It is pretty big for NYC, & i love the decor & the amount of seating available. They were fully staffed and I felt like the service was amazing. I got the veggie croissant and they added turkey for me. It was so crispy and flavorful. The dream cake was also such a good sweet treat. I love the crunch and layers to it.

Yelp
Smooth coffee but interesting i saw it as a Yemen coffee house but unlike the several I've gone to this is more of a dessert place and their default is Guatemalan coffee. Ambiance kinda hip for Times Square area. Velvety chairs and marble-like tables. Cashier was knowledgeable enough? But no idea what sana'ani was. Or rad'ai. Would I go back? If a friend in town was in area and we wanted to grab late night coffee ?! I heard about this place from an IG post.

Rohini G.

Yelp
I tried a hot Spanish latte which was overwhelmingly sweet and had little coffee flavor. This location is spacious and has good wifi for working but the drink truly wasn't worth it. Next time, I would get a simple latte or just a small bite.

Yelp
Last week I got delivery from here, as it is so hyped I thought I would try it.. But the croissant was one of the absolute worst in New York; the outside was OK, but the inside was a lump of barely cooked dough. So I decided that French pastry was not their strong point. So tonight, I decided to get their Yemen coffee delivered. I love coffee, and I especially love African and Arabian-grown coffee. I have no idea what their Yemen coffee is supposed to taste like, but this cup of coffee was one of the worst, very watery, and the flavor was very weak and mild. They have the nerve to charge $6.08 for one of the worst cups of coffee in New York. Another overhyped and overpromoted new and undeserving spot. Not even as good as typical service station swill. Watery and weak. Yuck! I imagine that the folks leaving rave reviews for this swill love overpaying for weak and watery nothing coffee. Just another place that shouldn't exist and needs to be avoided. Earlier in the day I had a great cup of coffee from a Greek bakery in Astoria; at least there are a few places to get strong and rich traditional coffee left in New York. But Mokafe is NOT one of them.

Yelp
Got a nutella croissant, with a smear of nutella on top of it but no actual filling?! Chai adeni was good, nice sized cookies. Cool setting!

Yelp
You have to come here and try the Pistschio chocolate bar!! It's so good!! I ordered a latte too and Muhammad is Amazing he made my latte with a pretty heart on top! Very cozy environment.

Yelp
I visited Mokafe and tried their Dubai chocolate, and it was very nice! The flavor was rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced, offering a luxurious chocolate experience, although it was so sweet I could only have a couple bites. The ambiance of the cafe made the indulgence even more special. Even though it's not trending anymore, the Dubai chocolate is still really good!

Aroosa S.

Yelp
Love Mokafe. My go-to is the Astoria location, but this one has a lot of room if you're going with friends. 3 floors of sitting area!
google avatar

Nabila H.

Yelp
After having been disappointed at multiple other coffee shops, I ventured to Mokafe a little hesitantly. I have tried both the hot and iced pistachio lattes here and both are great! I'd say the hot is more cohesive as the pistachio cream dissolves fully. There's more chunks of pistachio floating in the iced version. So so good regardless.

Yelp
tried the knafa chocolate croissant, came fresh from baking so the chocolate was melted over the croissant. the knafa tasted like smashed up mini wheat cereal. service was quick and the cafe is really nice to study in and it has free wifi

kailey Y.

Yelp
the place is nice and they have a great selection of pastries however the customer service is bad and the cookies are hard.

Yelp
decided to go here because i was at port authority and needed somewhere to sit and wait for friends. it was a cute spot. i didn't really try the food just had a tea

Somyra B.

Yelp
Great new coffee place near my office. Glad there's another option in the area for coffee. Their coffee is very good, as are some of their desserts. So far, my favorite is the Yemeni honeycomb bread. They opened last month, so they're still growing their sea legs sort of speak. The staff is friendly and the ambiance is pretty cool. Love the green interior!

K A.

Yelp
Amazing! We had the Dubai chocolate croissant - to die for. And the coffee and sandwich was great! We also bought 2 bars of Dubai chocolate for our Christmas stockings. They were amazing as well. Highly recommend this place.

Marc H.

Yelp
Amazing coffee house. The pastries were delicious. I love the smashed dipped icing pistachio croissant. It was new and different. The pastry counter was full of beautiful pastries and desserts, I wish I could have tried them all. I also had a coffee. There were not many people there when we arrived, but then started to get busier. The checkout was easy, it was clean and modern. The employees were terrific, since no one was there we spoke to Ryan, the barrister-Great personality, lucky to have a person to have in your business. I hope you can open more stores.

Bella S.

Yelp
The service was excellent. We were attended to right away. The ambiance is beautiful. They had plenty of seating and they were very comfortable. We had a variety of cookies and a mint tea and matcha. Great place to meet with friends and have come tea. Definitely would come back again.

Yunnah K.

Yelp
I stopped by here for the pistachio chocolate bars and got 2 & a matcha latte. The chocolate bars were that amazing and honestly the milk chocolate overpowered the overall flavor. However, the matcha is not worth your money! Spent $7 on it for it to only taste like grass! This was the first time I have ever came across a matcha latte that ACTUALLY tastes like grass!
