Great little spot. Has the best Korean food I’ve had in years! The staff is lovely and super attentive! The food comes in large portions and with sides of pickled radish, kimchi and cucumber. The restaurant has great decor, beautiful flowers cover the walls and little details that make this the perfect place for photos!

Miso soup and 3 appetizers were served before the meal. They tasted great and were fresh. My main course was a huge portion. The rice and vegetables are very fresh. It is a must for those who want to eat real Korean food.

This place is so cool and very decorative which looks so cool. Also the service is very nice and kind to us. Additionally the food is so good with so many options and they are also really minimal prices. Also, if you have a child, then they will give you cost on forks and spoons which are so cute. Overall, one of the best Korean restaurant I have been to. If you love Korean food, you should really come here!!

Google
Delicious modern korean food in Astoria. My favorites are the kimchi nachos and the soondubu, tofu stew. They also had a combo for a tofu stew with galbi, which is great to share with 2 people. Food really hits the spot after a long day. Service and atmosphere is also great as expected.

Yelp
Very nice and cozy place. Perfect for a couple's night out. I was there with my business partner, but that doesn't count. The place is low lighted with warm friendly staff. They start you off with some table munchies. One of them is kimchi. I never liked kimchi much but this one was really good. Chef made. I ordered the Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap. It starts out very hot (temperature wise) but it's very well seasoned and a new flavor for me. Frankly, I think it was the best Bibimbap I've ever had. I also had the Mandoo. That's dumpling filled with pork and vegetables. I got it fried. Very interesting. Not your average dumpling. New York's Funnyman Greg Kritikos had the Lunch Special - Kimchi Tofu Stew with Pork. That's Spicy Kimchi, Soft Tofu Stew with Pork. He loved it. I really want to try the Army Stew. I can get Jjigae with that. I wonder from what army did this stew come? Anyway, Try it, you'll like it.

Yelp
No frills korean place in queens. The auntie was super nice and the food tasted super comforting and homey. I'd ordered the kimchi jigae and galbi set, and a bibimbap. The bimbimbap was huge and i mixed the galbi in for a meaty perfect bite. The kimchi jigae used my favorite super sour kimchi and warmed me up! Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and craving some korean auntie prepared food

Yelp
I've frequented this charming Korean restaurant numerous times, and each visit reaffirms why it's become my go-to spot for Korean cuisine in town. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between modern chic and traditional warmth with flower decor all over the place. The menu boasts a variety of classic Korean dishes, from sizzling bibimbap to savory bulgogi. Every dish is prepared with care, showcasing authentic flavors that transport you straight to Seoul. The banchan (side dishes) are a delightful starter, offering a range of flavors and textures that complement the main courses beautifully. Service is consistently friendly and efficient, adding to the overall dining experience. Whether you're a Korean food enthusiast or a newcomer to the cuisine, this restaurant offers a welcoming environment and delicious food that will keep you coming back for more. Overall, this place earns top marks for its delicious food, inviting atmosphere, and attentive service. It's a gem in the local dining scene and definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Dined in once and ordered take out twice and I am happy to say that I am a fan. The price is right and the quality is good. As a Korean, I was never able to justify paying ridic prices for Korean food (unless in Flushing or NJ) but I am happy and satisfied with everything I've had here so far. Will continue to be a returning customer.

Yelp
For the first few seconds I've entered this place, I was already feeling the intensive care, little touches of detail, friendly warmth and good shocks of their food selections. Mokja can be such a great place for many things: first dates, a friends gathering, gossip through cocktails, and for a full meal or simple bites tapas style. I hadn't seen my old schoolmate for so long and she is a longtime local in Astoria. We both coincidentally wanted Korean food but in a non-frills and chill vibes environment. The decorations were exceedingly cute and loved the Dora dollhouse displays, the lights and cute crafted flowers on every table. Even our Korean cocktails were vibrant in color, taste and the cute blinking bulbs to give it a fun touch. Food wise: we had the pork steamed buns in folded form - fluffy, delicious and syrupy sweet with the pork bits. The soy garlic chicken wings were fried and sauced up nicely even with the steam still coming out from the chicken, perfect! And our carbs selection was none other than japchae - clear buckwheat noodles - can never go wrong and this was cooked nicely. I also want to give credit to the restaurant for adding a variety of Asian items on the menu. Was pleasantly surprised there was an option for banh mi, Thai noodles, and Japanese dishes like bentos and ramen. Astoria is a great location with a variety of cuisines and this place gives options to an assortment of Asian dishes. My next venture here will be the bibimbap or bulgogi burger as this did catch my eye. I'll make sure to come back with an empty stomach ready for those burgers.

Yelp
It's... edible I guess. Pretty disappointing. Service is friendly though. Maybe I've been spoiled from eating in Bayside/Flushing for so long. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. But this aint it

Yelp
Really cute place with a lot of flower decorations! Came in on a Tuesday night, got seated right away. We ordered BBQ spicy pork and army stew, both which we enjoyed. BBQ spicy pork comes with refillable lettuce! Servers were very attentive and nice. It's a very cute place to bring your date! Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Wow! Drive by this on a rainy Saturday and decided to check it out. Looking at low rating, I wasn't expecting much but this place blew me away. We got the Mandu beef soup, which was clear, flavorful and even had some noodles inside. My boyfriend who is not a soup person, actually wanted some because of the flavor. The beef is very tender and juicy. We also got the seafood soondubu with spicy bbq pork combo, which was on the smaller side but that's the portion of a combo. Their banchan deserves a paragraph of their own. The kimchi was super sour and crunchy which made it so addicting!! Thankfully they refilled our banchan. Loved it! Really great place, definitely will be back for their drinks!!

Yelp
Came here for dinner a few weeks ago - the space is warm, welcoming, and cozy and the staff is also super friendly. My partner ordered a bibimbap that was filling but pretty standard in terms of flavor profile, and I ordered a jjajangmyeon. The crispy pork belly was spectacular and totally melted in my mouth. However, the sauce was a little one-dimensional from my perspective. To be fair, I haven't had many Korean jjajangmyeons (though I am a huge fan of the wide variety of Chinese Zha Jiang Mians), but not a dish I liked very much. The banchan (barely pictured) was OK - also seemed a little bland, especially the kimchi.

Yelp
Finally tried this Korean restaurant in Astoria. As I am aware, there is not many Korean restaurants in Astoria and I am glad they have one here. We came here in a group of seven on a Sunday night around 5:30pm, and luckily got seated right away. We ordered quite a lot: pork belly, beef, arm stew, kimchi fried rice, chicken wings, seafood pancakes! Food are pretty good and I will definitely come back again. The only thing is we waited for a long time to be served and waited quite a while for the food.

Denise G.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time for take out! Very pleased with the taste of the food and delivery. The wings, fried mandoo, and chicken bibimbap were the favorites among me and my friends. Definitely would keep eating from Mokja! Excited to dine at the restaurant soon.

Karina Q.

Yelp
Cute Korean spot in Astoria. The decor is great, though the place itself is a little small. I've been here a few times, and honestly, the food doesn't reach 5 stars; it's just average (especially compare to korean spots in Flushing or NJ) - not bad, not great. The Budae jjigae isn't as thick as it's supposed to be. They usually refill banchans unless you come an hour before closing. The service is 4/5. Would recommend if you live in Astoria and crave korean food!

Jenn L.

Yelp
I dream about Mokja's kimchi fries pretty often - and if I lived closer, I would, without a doubt, be a frequent flier. I've tried some other things on their menu but the standout has always been the kimchi fries. Don't worry, they are *generous* with the kimchi, unlike some other places, so you'll always have the perfect bite. Their fries are nice and crispy, and their gochujang aioli really brings everything together. I could eat this every single day and you should too.

Min B.

Yelp
We come here often because it's near our apartment. Every time, I have a pleasant experience because of the friendly staff and delicious food. I have tried many things on the menu (jjajangmyun, tofu soup, spicy pork, etc.) And every dish was good. I would recommend popping in if you're in Astoria and crave korean food!

Matt L.

Yelp
Ordered a vegetable jajangmyeon and it was filled with onions and black beans, topped with zucchini- absolutely exquisite and satisfied my craving (wanted even more!) My family ordered a BBQ Grilled Kalbi and mentioned the flavor was absolutely amazing! Came on a cute mini bbq set. Service was impeccable (especially since we went around mid afternoon and it was not super packed). The server even suggested against sitting in direct sunlight, contrary to our initial insistence, due to worry about the sunlight becoming a nuisance later on and her seating recommendation was even more picturesque. The ambience was very romantic and cozy (with several decorations alluding to love , which makes for very aesthetic photos. Food: 5 Service: 5 Ambience: 5 *Would rank higher if possible! Cannot wait to come again!*

Yelp
I liked this place! I came in on Saturday without a reservation with my boyfriend and they gave us a table immediately. They have outdoor seating but we decided to stay inside. The place is pretty and they have lots of decorations going on! Flower walls and so on. After roaming the menu a bit, we decided to get fried chicken, bao buns, fried dumplings and a combo of noodles on cold soup + grilled meat. Everything was so great! Chicken was crispy and TASTED LIKE CHICKEN (amazing), buns were incredibly soft and tasty and well you get it. Everything has a very distinct taste. The only thing is that the noodles were A LOT and, maybe it was my bad, but when they said cold soup I didn't expect FRIDGE COLD. Therefore we did not eat those, despite the good taste. I will come back, 100%

Yelp
I'm surprised that this place doesn't have the best reviews. I'd expect it to have better reviews because of the service, drinks, and food. I can see people docking for some of the pricing but I loved my experience at Mokja. I'll start by saying I've been to Mokja a few times now - I've dined in a few times as well as ordered takeout from here. Located on a busy street in Astoria, Mokja is one of very few Korean restaurants which I very much enjoy. The waiters and waitresses are very friendly and service is great. For food, we opt for the dukkbokki, soondubu, and the galbi. Everything is done to perfection - perfect seasoning and flavors and everything is brought out hot. The cocktails are also very delightful. I'm always looking for a drinks place that does a soju based cocktail and there are some very unique ones here for decent pricing. The only qualm I can see people having with this place are the prices. They aren't that cheap but with inflation, I would compare these prices to city prices. For the food and service, I definitely think it's worth it. Food: 5/5 Price: 4/5 Ambience: 5/5 Service: 5/5

Yelp
Hubby and I saw this place months ago but never tried it until this day. We came here on a rainy night, so the place was quiet. I tried the squid Bibimbap and Hubby had a belly box. Taste-wise, the meals were average, but the service was very good. The owner was great. She appreciated that we took our time to enjoy our meals and visit on a rainy night. I think her name is Lee. I thought the dishes were less authentic compared to some Korean restaurants. Maybe it's a mixture of both traditional and modern Korean food. It was good to try the place to see what options we have if we want to try a different style of Korean food. Thanks!

Linda T.

Yelp
Not the best. We ordered the - ahi tuna bibimbap - crispy fries - beef bulgogi box meal The best part of the meal was definitely the bulgogi box meal. The ahi tuna didn't taste as fresh. You would think the crispy fries would live up to the name and at least be crisp, right? Nope, misleading and rather, soggy. Quite disappointing. You think McDonald's fries are bad? You haven't had these yet. Not sure if I will order from here again.

Francesca C.

Yelp
Very unique restaurant. Never seen anything like it. It's not a traditional Korean bbq where you can cook your own food. Service was good. But the waitress had no idea about food allergies. Food was good too but way too salty. They use msg in their food. I was extremely thirsty and had a headache the next day. Is Bulgogi beef supposed to be very sweet?? Because it was way too sweet for us to finish.

Jasmine M.

Yelp
Amazing dine-in experience, and good to-go spot. They have lots of pretty holiday lights up right now and in general, tables are nice and spaced out here. This is a great date night spot. We ordered the scallion pajeon, pork belly buns, kalbi bbq, and kimchi stew. The stew was standard (too spicy and too much pork in it for me) but the other three were amazing! Perks of dining in: banchan! Yummy complimentary little side dishes with kimchi, radish, fish cake. Also found the pajeon to be crispier, and the pork buns way better than when ordered for delivery. Some items simply taste better right away than packed in to-go containers. We ordered cocktails too, Korean mule and mojito were very good and didn't taste as strong as they were. The best! Wonderful, attentive service was the cherry on top.

Paul M.

Yelp
Was in the neighborhood a few days ago and decided to try based on various reviews. It was chilly and gloomy out and wanted a spicy late lunch. Perhaps a tad overpriced but my yuk gae jang (spicy beef soup) was excellent and a big portion. One of the best I've ever had and I've eaten in LA KTown a bunch. Spicy too! They only give a couple of sides so don't expect a ton of those. The gal serving me is super sweet and cool. Hope to be back sooner than later.

Yovanna P.

Yelp
It's a pretty place with good food. The vegetarian Bibimbap was so good and it's so much! The bathroom was beautiful and so clean! They had casual music in the background

Three M.

Yelp
Food was okay, but uneven--some items were great and some weren't so great. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

Mark G.

Yelp
Great food. The BBQ was my favorite. The staff is very nice and the restaurant is comfortable.

Kazell S.

Yelp
2nd time coming here. First of all the ambience is soooo freaking cute!! Everyone's soo nice, friendly and very attentive. They greet you with the warmest smile, they offer you sanitizer and hand wipes right away. The first time I got the Bulgogi bibimbap on a hotstone. The presentation is very nice. They deliver everything with a cart and they carefully put it on your table. The second time I tried the Japchae noodles with Bulgogi. Everything is well balanced and flavorful. Overall I am obssessed with this Korean restaurant :)

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Had passed this place so many times and was intrigued by their beautiful interior design. So many string lights to catch the eye! Finally had a chance to try it out, and I was quite disappointed. I should first point out that service was fantastic -- servers were so nice and attentive. Atmosphere was also pretty, clean, and calming. Low review exclusively because of the food! We were first given a table starter set of pickled veggies, kimchi, and tuna salad. The pickled veggies and kimchi tasted pretty standard, but I thought the korean inspired flavors of the tuna salad did not mesh together well. We got fried dumplings -- these were good! Bigger sized dumplings than elsewhere, which was nice too. We got the Bulgogi steak sandwich -- portion this was huge! It was a little on the sweeter side of other bulgogi I've had, but not bad overall. Portion of fries was generous. I was deciding between Army Stew or the Black Bean noodles (jjajangmyeon) and got the server's recommendation for the noodles. I ended up not liking it at all -- the sauce was almost flavorless, the noodles were overcooked, and the pork belly was some of the driest pork belly I've ever had. It is meant to be one of their specialities, but it didn't align with my taste! Unfortunately, I don't think I will come back or recommend this place to friends.

Sara W.

Yelp
Gave Mokja another try and it was worse than I remembered. Got hot stone bibimbap but it seems like they had warmed up the stone pot and just put the rice in and toppings immediately after because the rice did not have a crisp bottom to it, and the bibimbap was really lacking in flavor. I got the hot stone because I wanted that crisp rice, so it was disappointing. The pork buns were okay with the sauce. And I felt like I needed the sauce for my entree actually too. Service was pretty slow too.

Tony J.

Yelp
Great friendly service. Have eaten here a few times both takeout and in person. Had the veggie and mushroom hot stone bimbim bap. And the ahi tuna hot bowl bimbimbap. Both were delicious with the spicy sauce and kimchi, pickled radish and roasted broccoli. Great Korean fix in Astoria!

Pedro A.

Yelp
Food is great here but wish the service would be better. We attempted to get a table today 12/30/23 and were turned away at our request. We preferred not to seat at a table next to the door since is uncomfortable do to the wind in winter. We wanted to be seated at more comfortable which was empty at the moment. The host told us it was a table for a party of 4. We were confused since there were already 2 people seating in a similar table that seats 4. The table was empty and we were there ready to consume. I guess they don't care in generating revenue and making their patrons happy or the hostess is not very experienced. We decided not to discuss more and took our business to a Korea restaurant down the street and spent our money there.

Sharon K.

Yelp
My food experience 0 - why I ordered bbq NOT BOILED MEAT instead , I was so hungry I ate half - will not come back / the place decor A+ / NOT BBQ

Lydia L.

Yelp
Mokja has super cute decor. Five stars for the decor, perfect covid procedures, and solid food. Also the music was bumpin'! I was jamming to every song and some people even sang along to songs This is only if you like tik tok songs / pop. Me and my boyfriend got the budae jjigae (army stew) ($25) and it had so much content in it! I was very pleased with the amount of meat inside it. We could only finish half of it and got to eat the other half for a late night snack. Definitely coming back!

Asmita S.

Yelp
Mokja was the one of the best restaurant experience not only for the food, but also for the excellent customer service making you want to go again(will definitely go again). There were 3 people serving, and all of them were good and attentive. Pork belly was one of the dish which was best. Inspite of pork belly, the food tasted very "healthy" as it was not very fatty. This dish is just grilled without any sauce and comes with lettuce and sauce. Be sure to make korean wrap with lettuce, pork belly , sauce, kimchi and add some rice too. The end result so good that you cant help but want to go for more. Dont hesisate to ask for more lettuce. The next dish was army stew. The amount of ham sausage was generous. Definitely should go Mokja to pork belly

Sisi S.

Yelp
Came here and sat down for food plus ordered , taste the same I think the food isn't bad ! Good decent prices as well. Services is kinda slow but it's overall pretty good , A lot of room Too

Takako S.

Yelp
I've ordered stone bibimbap. Bat looks like no stone cooked and I never had such a bad bibimbap in my life. I am Korean I know that Korean foods.

Caroline N.

Yelp
We were about to give up and saw Mokja. Checked on yelp though didn't check the reviews since we were tired. The restaurant had a delivery or take-out option so it was good for us. We ordered the bulgogi steak sandwich and kimchi soondubu (kimchi tofu stew) at 7:55 PM requesting pickup from the store (8:19 PM). We waited by the store. Check the app around the pickup time and food is ready. The app will tell you but no phone call to let you know. The bulgogi steak burger was surprisingly good with chiptole (?) aoili dip which was a bit zesty. The kimchi tofu was really temperature hot to hold so be careful and adding the rice to the soup was perfect. The radish and kimchi sides were great for me. I wouldn't mind trying the other dishes if we go back. Thank you guys! Sorry, didn't take too many pictures since it was dark.

TJ J.

Yelp
I've seen some of the negative experiences written on here and that's not been my experience at all- we've had 3 times take out, and 3 times sit down in store and all have been absolutely amazing korean food. The best Korean food in the neighborhood. We had tried the other places and most were so overrated (KAL I'm looking at you). Definitely give this one a try.

Liz O.

Yelp
Stopped by this place for lunch after a visit to the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria. I had the shrimp fried rice which was pretty good, but my favorite part of the meal was the kimchi fries (pictured). The portions were quite large. The interior was really spacious and comfortable. The outdoor seating setup also looked really nice, but it was completely full when I came.

Frank M.

Yelp
Lovely korean eatery in Astoria, wonderful service (thanks Yanzen!) and great food! I would have gone with my usual Bibimbap, but went with a stew instead; it did not disappoint! And staff very kind and encouraging when I asked for a fork (...chopsticks... are a special battle for me . One day!) Also presentation & music on point.

Tshering P.

Yelp
This is my go to spot during my lunch break. I love their army stew and their bulgogi nachos. The owner and her staff are very friendly. It's always a great experience when I come here.

Kaitlin D.

Yelp
FIVE STARS FOR LEE! She was our waitress and she was the best everrrrrrr. She was SO friendly, gave great suggestions, funny and kind. ( I hope you're reading this!! ) We came for their Korean chicken wings and they were very mediocre. If you want Korean chicken wings, then this place isn't it. However, they are super crunchy. I have nothing much to say because I wasn't impressed.

Bianca P.

Yelp
They have the best Rabokki here!!! It's so flavorful and cheesy but you must ask for cheese and it's a little extra, but totally worth it! I've tried the kimchi pancakes and they weren't that good, but I think it's just not my thing. I've been here several times in the past few months for rabokki and occasionally the beer!! Definitely try them out. They also have amazing service and cute vibes! Check out my Instagram for more foodie places and pictures! @eatwithaprasad :)

Christine Y.

Yelp
As a Korean that eats kbbq all the time, their galbi is great esp for the price Cute set up too

Daniela Noelle A.

Yelp
My husband and I ordered on GrubHub. We were craving Korean fried chicken so we ordered that plus a can of coke. However, when the food was delivered, the chicken was raw in the middle and they forgot to deliver the can of coke. Not too much of a big deal. We called them and the owner was super duper sweet and accommodating. She even said that we didn't have to pay for the reorder even though we really wanted to (we felt terrible; we never like to call these places like a Karen). They brought a can of coke too, but again, the chicken was raw in the middle. I'm guessing it's frozen? Can't think of any other reason why it would turn out like this twice. Shortly after, our stomachs started hurting from eating raw chicken. I don't think we will be ordering from here again but best of luck to the sweet lady that owns the place.

Tanzie R.

Yelp
From the décor, to the service, to the food, this place hits all the requirements. They have stunning light up cherry blossom trees throughout the restaurant and flower walls everywhere. It's dim and romantic but also good for groups. I called and made a reservation ahead of time because I've tried to eat here before and they had no tables. Our server was really sweet and brought out hand sanitizer and hot towels! I've never been to a restaurant with little hot towels before! Our food came pretty quickly and at the same time. I got the crispy fried with Gochujang aioli which were delicious! I got the hot stone veggie Bibimbap that I highly recommend for the experience. It comes with kimchi and yellow pickled radish. Mine had sautéed veggies, tofu, and a fried egg. I wish the tofu was seared or there was more seasoning. Make sure you ask for teriyaki and soy-scallion sauce! I didn't know it came with it and it definitely made the dish come alive. The hot stone cooks the rice at the bottom and makes it super crispy, keep stirring as you eat! My favorite thing was the Raboki Ddukboki. It contains no meat in the broth. It's listed as an appetizer but super filling as an entrée. It's rice cakes, ramen, a boiled egg (break it apart and mix it to make the sauce more creamy), and a lot of onions. The sauce is more sweet than spicy but packed with flavor. Highly recommend. The menu is endless so can't wait to go back!

Sabrina F.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times now and love it. Portions and flavors are great. Service was okay this last time the server forgot our app which was fine because main course was huge. Will definitely be back soon. Huge complaint is the fact that their two bathrooms do not have changing stations for babies. BIG NO NO! Our server was able to clean out a table in the bathroom so that I could change my big guy on it. One crazy move and he would've been on the floor though, so I highly recommend that they add a changing station.

J R.

Yelp
Great service! Workers are all attentive. Food just takes a while to come out. Didn't like one of the food items that we ordered. Worker gave a discount and asked about improvements! Fries are to die for.

Tiffany F.

Yelp
Been here a couple of times and their army stew has been consistently delicious with full of different meats and vegetables! It's my quick, go-to place for army stew in the NYC/LIC area. Comes with a side of kimchi that isn't particularly delicious but eh, just don't eat that then.
