The Best Jonathan Gold Reviews, From Food Writers He Inspired | Eater

"Praised for a deeply glossy, intensely flavored black mole—dark, spicy and bitter—with quail in traditional mole negro that leaves a lingering aftertaste; the preparation is described as emotionally powerful and visually arresting, the kind of mole that compels immediate devotion." - Daniela Galarza

Every dish I’ve tried is super tasty and amazing!! Extremely flavorful they cook with heart and soul. It feels like I’m truly at Mexico, the ingredients taste fresh. It’s a tiny spot feels like a hidden gem.

Google
1st time here. Mole de fresas is finger licking good. Plantains in tequila creamy sauce is a must have!!! Join it with a café de hoya, y por que no.

Small, clean, hole in the wall with delicious food. The waitress is young and lacks people skills but took care of us. You can park in the back or good luck with street parking. Price is right for what you get.

This establishment offers a delightful selection of authentic Mexican cuisine. The menu provides numerous options, accommodating vegetarian preferences. The dining experience was highly satisfactory.

Ok so first of all, I’ve been coming here for quite some time give or take six or seven years. The food has always been good unfortunately this last three times service has been awful, especially today when I was served spoiled beans and I was told it was due to having too much onion mind you I grew up eating beans so we all know how they taste. Staff should acknowledge when something is not good and move and learn from it not how the client the paying customer is told this is how they cook beans I’m sorry I’ve eating Beans my whole life I know how they taste. Trust me beans are not supposed to have a sour taste even with onion in them.

Little place out of the way ..amazing! Food was great. Staff was prompt and super nice Parking ..it's LA, you know how it is. Surely to go back and enjoy the rest of the menu.

Google
Food was incredible, lots of options that are difficult to find elsewhere in the states. Honestly it was the best Mexican food I've had. I loved the strawberry and pipian moles and the Horchata was great. Can't wait to return and try some more foods.

Google
I'm Hispanic so I usually don't eat at Mexican restaurants because I can eat better food at home but this place is amazing. I've only been there twice and now I dream about their chillaquiles. You can also request your chilaquiles to be made spicy. I love the level of tanginess ( not too much like other restaurants.) The potatoes in the meal are out of this world. Also, it's pretty hard finding an horchata that doesn't have too much of that chalky consistency. This drink is absolute perfection. Perfectly strained. It's a bit on the sweeter side but I don't mind it. The pumpkin seeds and sugar rim on the cup knock this one out of the park.

Yelp
Best Mexican Spot in all of L.A County. Wonderful staff and service. will be going very often from now on

Yelp
I took my mom at her insisting that we try this place, and she was so right! Ok, not the prettiest on the outside and more OG in interior design, but what matters is the quality of the food by an experienced kitchen staff. By the way, I've tried mole in some of the best places in Mexico, and this comes very close! I decided to try a few different flavors over the familiar to see how that turned out. Outcome: I can't wait to go back and try something new and something familiar.

Yelp
Excellent food! Chilaquiles with red sauce super tasty. The must try though is their cafe de olla! Only one drawback is the parking situation but they do they best they can. No street parking so uber there or park in the back
google avatar

Veronica F.

Yelp
I love coming here the staff is nice and friendly. It gets busy during lunch or weekends. The food is delicious and always tastes fresh!

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise to find this place. Cozy interior with bright colors and a very attentive and friendly staff. The food is made from scratch and simply amazing. A true gem.

Yelp
Not really a negative reviewer but this right here, I was very disappointed with the taste of the food here, specially the Mole sampler, to my taste it had lack of flavor. Ordered the queso fundido with chorizo it came with about 3 tortillas those were hand made I think but they were soft and fresh. My husband ordered the wet burrito de asada with green sauce, it had more veggies than meat and it was just ok and the sauce wasn't all that. My order was the Enfrijoladas Oaxaqueñas which basically was two tortillas filled with cheese covered in bean sauce and a piece of meat, bean sauce was bland it was like watered down canned beans, nothing special honestly, the best thing about this experience was the Agua de Mango con Piña. Service was good, the place is tiny and our server was nice but the food was not good at all.
google avatar

Sulma B.

Yelp
Food is good, good price Desert is the infrijolada Where delicious , chilaquiles, & moyetea Must plántanos machos
google avatar

Juan L.

Yelp
First time here, I was referred by a coworker. Food and service are amazing. I had the opportunity to try the enmoladas wich are two enchiladas with your choice of mole, they have from mild to extra spicy. I had the hot mole and it was delicious. Atmosphere here is relaxing and calm playing soft music in the background. I definitely will come back again.
google avatar

Yelp
Excelente servicio y el mole y las tortillas a mano súper delicioso todo , claro que voy a volver .

Yelp
This place is so small but so good! We waited about 20 minutes and were packed in there like sardines! It was worth it! Service was okay. Hopefully it's better next time. The tamalé was one of the best I've ever had! It was packed with so much flavor! So fresh and so good! I wanted more, but had to control myself. Can't wait to come back. Molé was so good, and was super authentic! Everything was delicious, and simple. Really was great!

Yelp
The mole poblano was excellent! However, I believe the chicken was grilled. It was dry. Mole poblano usually is accompanied with boiled chicken. The white rice and beans were good. I loved the horchata. It's was served in a glass with the rim coated with cocoa and pumpkins seeds inside the drink. It was yummy! The server was attentive. The restaurant is clean. I returned on a different day. I tried the mixiote de borrego, it was so good! And of course I had another horchata, yum! I'll be returning to try other things.
google avatar

Lori J.

Yelp
The place looks tiny from outside but can fit a good amount of people inside. The food was sooo good! I had the mixed fajitas no rice because I'm trying to stick to low carb diet. But I could not say no to the cafe de olla. And it was lovely! My wife had this bean soup that was soooo delicious. We had never had anything quite like it. It was called Reina azteca, highly recommend it!

Yelp
Food is good, family has been coming here for years . Service is great. Today wasn't a good experience, person washing the dishes seemed like he was angry at life. I believe waitress tried to make him aware of the loud banging. A arrogant remark was heard. Personally I don't I don't like Loud banging when am eating.

Anita R.

Yelp
The food is soooo goood and at a great price! The staff is very friendly and definitely take care of you and your family
google avatar

Arely R.

Yelp
Only reason I'm giving two stars is because of the presentation of the food and because it has parking. Unfortunately we did not enjoy our meal. The rice was hard ,not sure if it was raw or stale. The chicken on both meals were bland ,no flavor. The pipián didn't taste like pipián. The vegetables had no flavor but boiled carrots passed in oil for 3 minutes. Service was good.
google avatar

Yelp
If I could rate the Enchiladas Poblanos only they'd get a 4....easy 5 if they were bigger.. Buuuuuut.....they were so small and hardly much chicken in them. 1 was a lot bigger than the other. The smaller one was as small as a frozen taquito. The Mole was slammin though. Super delicious. The beans were cold (which is the worst when it comes to Mexican Food) and the serving portion was soooo small. It honestly looked like they were spread on the plate with a butter knife. I wish I took a pic but I was hungry. And the rice had absolutely no flavor. I love supporting Mom and Pop places over any chain restaurants. But for a $14 plate...it didn't put a dent in my gut. I had to stop on the way back to work and picked up a Whopper from Burger King to fill me up. I'd sure hate to see the size of their Child Plate here. If you come here.....be prepared to order more than you usually do if you're hungry.

Yelp
I love this place food is delicious and the prices are fair, service is good, is family owned and the Ann wince is really chill.

Yelp
This review is for service experienced a few months ago, but the memory still stings. That's how I know it was a really bad experience. My mom asked if a certain dish could be made without chicken - we both don't eat meat. The young female server said "yes", and my mom said "oh, then I'll have that but no chicken". When her plate came she took one bite and realized there was chicken. We called the young lady over to let her know there had been an error. She insisted my mom ordered the chicken. After reminding her of the conversation when we ordered she goes on to say that she's "well she's already eaten it" - when my mom only took one bite and spit it right out. It was the ugliest way to deal with her mistake. The food is good but not worth this type of service.

Yelp
I love my chilaquiles with a crunch. The chilaquiles here are delicious with just the right amount of salsa to leave a bit of a crunch. I asked for a side of their mole poblano (they have so many to choose from) so that I can pour over my over easy eggs and get my mole fix. Will need to return to try an all mole dish. The place is tiny, expect a bit of a wait. Great customer service.

Yelp
First time stopping in here as I was down in Bell on business... what a nice menu with everything affordable and sounding delicious. They have a great breakfast menu I just missed but, for $2 more, it was still available. It was just becoming lunch time so I opted to go with the Enchilada Verde w Chicken, Rice & Beans ($11.99). Everything is made to order here so it takes a few minutes to arrive but that's ok as I have some of their freshly made chips and salsa to hold me over: great chips and so-so salsa (a little loose for my taste). Chips 8/10. Salsa 5/10. The plate arrives and is visually appealing enough. I scarf it down and am not sure if I was so hungry or that the servings are a little small here or both, lol. It's a good lunch though, with the verde sauce being standout and the grilled chicken inside the two small enchiladas being well cooked and seasoned lightly. 7.5 / 10 I asked for a side of the poblano mole sauce to try as it is their specialty and it is EXCELLENT. Like the best I can remember trying. It's a rich, dark brown color, velvety textured molé, less viscous than many I've had, and on the sweeter side with only a hint of smokiness... terrific. 9/10 I'd come here again when in the neighborhood... and eat that molé out of an old shoe if it was all that was available.

Yelp
A true Gem. If you're in the city of Bell this is a must . It's tiny but those hole in the wall type of places always seem to be the best. Service First and foremost I have to say great service the servers and nice and courteous . Very attentive and they don't forget about you . Food I always start with a sopa Azteca - which is a mildly spicy black bean soup with tortilla chips. To accompany that I also get a chapulin taco aka crickets . Spicy and delicious a must have . Oaxaca style of course Main course I usually get sea food enchiladas covered with a spicy green sauce stuffed with fresh fish and shrimp paired with beans and rice . Or chicken mole Oaxaca style which is delicious. Lastly I always get a cafe de olla . In short if you want great food affordable and good service don't pass this place up .

Yelp
Great lil hiding gem, great food & service, only thing is a bit pricy but other than that awesome place

Jac T.

Yelp
Mole is good but the only thing I would say if your starving this is not the place because the portions are small

Fabiola L.

Yelp
Great food!! Very Friendly!! Good prices!! Recommended 100% Moles riquísimos!!! Go and try it, you won't regret it!

Yelp
Hole in the wall, no frills, all thrills. Service is as good as it's gonna get when there's a limited staff and a restaurant full of hungry patrons. Authentic flavorful and very delicious platters. One bite and your taste buds will guide you into a world of flavors and will make you feel like you're at abuela's kitchen indulging in her homemade moles. Can't forget about the fresh Aguas frescas and their bubbling hot Cafe de la Olla that takes me back to a Mexican morning out in the rancho herding cattle and milking cows for pajaretes. This place does tend to get crowded because this restaurant is very small. You might even get to sit separately (big parties beware)
google avatar

Priscila F.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem, with their various moles as specialty dishes. The horchata comes with sunflower seeds and a tasty sweet flavored rim. The cafe de la olla is also super delicious. Started with the sopa azteca which is a bean soup with cheese, sour cream, and tortilla chips. My favorite is the green chicken enchiladas, it has a bit spicy kick to it and very flavorful. Also, had the enmoladas poblanas, which were tasty. Can't go wrong with any fish. Can't wait to go back and try a different dish.

Yelp
I dined here once and haven't stopped dining here since. The food is delicious and the waitresses are always friendly and welcoming. The ambiance is as if you are in your grandmas kitchen and who doesn't love that?! So far I've only eaten from their breakfast menu. You can't go wrong with anything. My favorites so far are the molletes, huevos rancheros, and their pancakes!! Their cafe de olla is also very good.

Claudia A.

Yelp
google avatar

Gio R.

Yelp
The place is really small but has a nice vibe to it. The food was really good, just wish portion was a little bigger. Service was good. Prices are reasonable. I would come back.
google avatar

Crystal C.

Yelp
Best CHILAQUILES I've ever had!!! My mouth is on FIRE and I LOVE IT. (You can ask for extra spicy, spicy or mild). Service was great, Jess and Steph are great at what they do and always make me feel welcome! Food service prices
google avatar

Anabel F.

Yelp
First time coming here, I wanted good Cafecito and good authentic Mexican food. Happy to report I got it! Had some empanadas, cafe de olla, huitlacoche cream soup and 3 mole enchiladas.
google avatar

Andy L.

Yelp
I had a fantastic experience at Mole de Los Reyes. The service was solid. The tres mole plate (off-menu) w/ chicken enchiladas plate was perfect. I loved the mole verde. Can't really ask more from a restaurant. I will come by to try to cafe de olla next time.
google avatar

Maria B.

Yelp
They serve a variety of moles and while we will trying to decide which one to select, we were brought a basket of chips WITH ALL the different types of mole!!! What a great idea. We were able to select what we each wanted and the mole was perfection. While I would serve the chicken differently, that is only based on our custom, moles were great! They are serve coffee the traditional wat found in Mexico which was a treat!
google avatar

Ann Margaret P.

Yelp
Went on a Monday morning and it was busy but not packed. Service was good and friendly. Ordered the chilaquiles in salsa de calabasa and it was delish! It came with beans and rice and both were very tasty. The cafe de olla was spot on! They allow you one refill, which is just right for those that like that extra cup with breakfast. Food came it out quickly and hot. The place is a small hole in the wall joint and can be relatively missed between all the industrial buildings around it. Definitely a place you should try. Breakfast was served until 11pm and we did catch the evening menu, which we plan to check out another day. But the description of each dish sounded scrumptious.

Jaime A.

Yelp
The food was amazing! Very polite servers too and a beautiful traditional Mexican interior design. Google Maps says it's super busy but it really isn't, I had a great time and loved all the food including the red tamales. Must visit and I highly recommend.
google avatar

Chris O.

Yelp
Been coming here for years. Love the cochinita pibil. My wife Ioves the mole and almost every food we have tried is really good.
google avatar

Vanessa H.

Yelp
WOW I didn't take any pictures but it's so delicious! We started with exceptional aguas frescas. I got the Horchata which had pumpkin seeds in it. My family got the Jamaica w strawberry and the cafe the holla. So great start with the drinks. For Apps we had the Empanada topped w cebolla curtida, there's one with chorizo, one w flor de calabaza and the last one with smut. Delicious! The Guacamole was fresh and light. The main meal we had the Enfrijoladas that come w a slice of carne asada. BOMB. The Mole poblano, scrumptious, taco de pollo. Beautiful. Everything was plated nicely. Everything had amazing complex flavors. Right down to the rice. Service was basic doesn't add or take away from the experience.

Carmen M.

Yelp
Lots of people said "this place is a hidden gem" and it actually is. I got the enmoladas poblanas and they were so good. My husband got the filet mignon in mole verde and 2 tacos cochinita pibil and he enjoyed it all and my father in law got the pork filet in mole poblano and he said he gave it a 5 out of 5. I got a sweet tamal (pineapple) and that was pretty good but the tamal with pork was a little on the dryer side. Now, for the best part: the cafe de olla was honestly some of the best coffee I have ever had. I want to go back just for that.
google avatar

Monica A.

Yelp
Such a cute family restaurant and the food taste just amazing! My family always brags about it and I finally had the honor to experience such wonderful tasting food best way to start your day con una comida tan rico y la café de olla OMG QUE DELICIA ! Mi hermana tuvo que hasta ordenar para ir hahaha the inside is pretty small and we did go during a pretty busy morning but Jessica was our server for the whole restaurant by herself and appreciate her patience and the attentiveness we received . So 5 stars FOOD AND SERVICE
google avatar

Maya G.

Yelp
OMG! This is going to become my go to weekend brunch spot! Café de Olla on point~ Shrimp Mole de Cafe, Mole Verde Asada, Rabo de Mestiza~holy smokes, Tres Coronas Empanadas~delish! What about the Reina Azteca Soup?! Never had this before and it was a fave. From the description and pics I thought it was going to be more of a creamy stew. Instead it was lighter which I loved. It was a perfect balance, full of flavor. The presentation of our mole dishes was unexpected for this unrated treasure. We can't wait to come back and explore more dishes. It's a rarity when each item met or exceeded our expectations Oh man how did I almost forget about the hand made tortillas. Those alone and the Cafe de Olla is what got me to walk in the door
google avatar

Yaja P.

Yelp
It's is hands down one of the most delicious food I've tried in a while! It took me back to Mexico. Every single dish is well portioned nothing overwhelming but just perfect I cannot rave how good the food is even the coffee it's the best!!!!

S S.

Yelp
Great food and the best cafe de olla! Service is good. Waitress in the am is hard working and attentive! She takes orders, runs food, and is the cashier. 10/10
