14 Lively Irish Pubs to Grab a Pint in Houston

"Step inside this Downtown watering hole and you might think you’ve been transported to a dark and moody backstreet in Dublin. The building that houses this pub has been around since 1890 and is known to be haunted by a ghost lady in the bathroom. While we will leave it up to you to decide if that’s fact or fiction, one thing is certain here: The pours are heavy and the service is top-notch. Grab a few pints to share with a few friends for a day of unbridled fun." - Sean Hekmat

My friend and I had the pleasure of finding this spot by accident. We stumbled in on a cold rainy night and met Andrew. He made us feel right at home and was friendly our entire stay. He is also very knowledgeable when it comes to drink making and produced a few great ones for me and my friend.

Google
Cool place to hang out with friends . Good atmosphere , friendly people, good music and plenty of TV scattered around . Plus food snacks available . Beer 🍺 , liquor 🥃 , of all kinds . Recommend Molly's Pub !

Google
Not a bad establishment. The service was quick and friendly. Good selection of beers and a lot of entertainment is on offer. Especially at the weekends with the karaoke. It's very vibrant and competitive within the local vicinity. The decor adds to the atmosphere of the place.

It was a different atmosphere it's located downtown by Main Street area by the transit metro bus railroad Went with a CO-worker. I enjoyed the bartenders they made me feel welcome and my co-worker. also they had a jukebox on the wall.. It had alot of different songs to choose from new and some old. I played music I liked other people seem to like it too it was Wednesday like around 1130pm / 12midnight when we walked through the door it wasn't crowded at all it was nice... Security / Police was on deck which is always a plus.... And they had all types of things on the wall I took a picture of a harp and the restroom was clean Which is always a good thing.....I will return

Google
Such a wonderful atmosphere. Pull up a seat, meet the locals, very friendly and accommodating.

Google
The bar on the 2nd floor has a very chill vibe and is rarely overcrowded. Good music selection and awesome balcony overlooking Main street.

I always have a good time when I come here, the staff is GREAT friendly and professional the bathroom is clean and smells good. My husband and I had our first date here (that was 5yrs ago) I recommend this place to everyone

Was in town for Giants v Texans. We were thirsty after checking into hotel and came across Molly's. Bartender was real pleasant and very attentive. I had the pastrami sandwich. Very good!! Started out with some Guinness then switched to some local brews which were very impressive

Scott C.

Yelp
John is great. A lot of the other bartenders suck. This is not a food place, but the drinks are pretty decent.

Tim D.

Yelp
Great stop. Best "dive" bar downtown. Friendly staff and good prices. It's a must stop for downtown Houston.

Yelp
My friend was working a promo at Molly's Pub and she invited me to stop by on a Friday night. Molly's is located downtown on Main Street so street parking is your best bet. Molly's is part of the center of Main Street which is a great area of town to bar hop. They have a small patio out front with some seating. You'll see the bar as you walk in on your right and the bathrooms are on the second level. Molly's came across to me as your every day, casual bar. Nothing stood out but nothing was displeasing either.

Yelp
I discovered this place after I was rudely barred from another establishment down the street for wearing shorts (though I spotted a few men inside said establishment in shorts). The atmosphere wasn't pretentious since there were others dressed like me. American dive bar meets pub in Dublin, if you will. I felt a little more welcome here. Presented with a menu, I was very eager to order a pepperoni pizza, of which they were fresh out. I had the French dip sandwich instead. Molly's deserves credit for serving sandwiches big enough to last you through two meals, but I was disappointed with the lack of flavor in my sandwich. The roast beef was dry and not tender while the accompanying au jus did nothing to make the meat more tasteful. The biggest draw for me here, however, was karaoke. My timing couldn't have been any more perfect as I arrived when the in-house DJ was setting the equipment up. Because I'm a Filipino and Filipinos love karaoke, I went up there and did my best rendition of "Purple Rain". I'd probably return on a less busier night and when there's pizza available.

Lynn H.

Yelp
We were there Saturday night. Our waitress, a 20 something with waist length blonde hair, took our credit card and said she needed to keep it to run a tab. Within hours our card had been compromised . Pacific sun glasses and $800 of tickets from NRG. BEWARE....DON'T LET THIS GIRL TAKE YOUR CARD!!!! Shame on this establishment!

Yelp
Nice place for drinks.. cool atmosphere sits on the main drag through downtown good customer service

Yelp
Great place to have drinks , tell a story, listen to some nice music, play some pool.easy Uber rides easy to obtain, don't miss

Yelp
Why the hell would four drinks of Jameson cost 69 dollars. I know I expect some Sort of inflation because Rona but 16 dollars for a well whiskey per drink is insane!!! I was there last night and this is what they told me and it just ridiculous. I need a explanation, it's insane to spend that much. We want to go out and support but that is just ridiculous.

Yelp
One of the few places that remained open during Hurricane Harvey, Mollys Pub was the perfect place to enjoy some solid booze and great humor. Stephen is a fantastic bartender who takes pride in his work and made sure he had everything we needed. I highly recommend the chili pie. The music is loud, but the company can't be beat. If you want a fun night out with the locals, this is the place!

Tiler R.

Yelp
My friends and I had an awesome time at Molly's! We were hopping around bars downtown and ended up staying here for the rest of the evening. The place had a super friendly atmosphere, fun music, darts and pool in the back, and is wheelchair accessible. There's an elevator in the back that allowed us to use the restrooms on the second floor. Great place to hang! We'll definitely be going back next time we're in H-town! Also, if you feel like grabbing some food, they're more than cool with you getting food next door and bringing it inside!
google avatar

Aurelia A.

Yelp
Stopped at this spot because it also has outdoor seating for people who smoke our just want to people watch along with enjoying the weather. The bartender even comes out and checks on you so you dont have to keep going in and out the bar. Nice chill place.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
There is nothing abysmal about the place. Hm. It is basically like Shay's across the street just without the sass from the bartender. A decent place for a pint, if like me you are avoiding the Flying Saucer, before moving on to the next thing. Or a good waypoint if you started at Hearsay/Warren's and are moving towards Sunny's (this is usually when I have ended up here.) It is never that busy, which I like. But that just makes it even more awkward when there are clearly drunk "bro" dbags that just ruin the experience for everyone. I am not really going to knock Molly's down a star for stupid drunk guys. But perhaps if one American light beer is getting these morons drunk, they should not continue to serve the bros additional American light beers. Just a thought.

Jasmine I.

Yelp
Had the pork belly fried rice and it was amazing. If your fat like me, add extra belly meat. Lol. Sorry don't have a picture to post. Nice spot with a lot of different options to choose from.

Yelp
I've always been a fan of Irish pubs. I came here on a Friday night, after looking for nearby watering holes downtown, something down-to-earth without a cover charge or wild crowd waiting in line to get into a club. Walking the couple blocks to this place, there were several bars/clubs with waiting lines pouring onto the sidewalks, so I was surprised to see very little patrons in Molly's Pub. Authentic looking Irish pub with a friendly staff always there for refills. Karaoke was the flavor of the night, so it was fun to watch. It is a 2 story place with the bathrooms upstairs. Small seating patio on the sidewalk. Beer taps include Smithwick and Guinness - I couldn't be happier. Food prices seemed fair but limited. Good downtown relaxed hangout with your peeps for drinks and some bar food.
google avatar

Preston O.

Yelp
Was at Molly's last night for a quick beer and had to leave due to the terrible smell in the place. Skip the place entirely. So many other options.
google avatar

Natasha S.

Yelp
NOT A FAN. The music is horrible. Especially when there is karaoke. The environment and vibe is very putting off. The moment we walked in, I felt surrounded by creeps who were just watching women down. I was NOT comfortable. We were in and out. Bartenders and staff aren't very friendly and welcoming unless you are a regular. Never again.
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
Be careful of their "specials". One bartender will tell you one thing, then shiftchange will happen and your bill will be different than what you expected! Happened to me three times now, not going back!

R J.

Yelp
Will not return until this place is "CLEANED". Owners &/or managers do not remember the last time this place was cleaned. Since the front of the house - windows, seating, bar, etc. was so dirty, we had NO interest in ordering anything from the kitchen. We know times are tough for all bars/restaurants right now, but that is no excuse for this mess. A peak into the filthy windows, along with the dirty exterior, will tell you what to expect inside. Clean this place if you want business to return.
google avatar

Kristi P.

Yelp
Perfectly poured Guinness. Right here. I looked all over The Woodlands for a solid pour when I moved here last month. No luck. Was pretty bummed out until I happened to wander into Molly's. Rob was my bartender and he hooked me up! So much delicious. Loved it. It's a hike to get there but it's worth it.
google avatar

Roland C.

Yelp
I was drunk when we arrived here and don't remember much but I will say I had fun. Only because I didn't remember and I woke up with my wallet. Lol

Yelp
In Houston we are privileged with shi many bars and restaurants. All of them have one thing in common, make customers a regular. Usually they don't dhoo anything to make a regular upset., but at Molly's they do. I was invited by one of my friends to hang out with at his regular spot for our meeting . Besides dirty restroom and have to go upstairs to use it, besides dirty glasses with fingerprints on them I was shocked to hear Rob "bartender " holding a bottle of liquor in his hand and screaming that he loves that bottle because of the picture of a black man in the bottle because slavery made that liquor in the bottle.(he actually used the N word) and guess what, the dude I am meeting is black. We all know about how not be racist but in this case is about being a dumb racist who works in restaurant industry. So I give them 1 star for not hiring the right people who are intelligent and polite enough to be in restaurant industry. To be fair for the sake of the review, if the bartender does not insult you, they do have a fast service and reasonably priced in downtown.

Yelp
I came in expecting a real Irish pub. There was nothing Irish about it. The bartender seemed a bit distant, as if she could care less if I dropped in or not. I had a Born in Texas ale, to sample the local brew. On the menu, I didn't find any steak & kidney pie, shepherd's pie, or even fish & chips. It was just a short list of sandwiches. I ordered the "O'Kelly" because it sounded Irish. It was OK, but now I can't even remember what was in it or how it tasted.

Yelp
First bar we walked up to last Saturday and felt welcomed because of the super friendly and awesome door guy named Steven! We didn't even hop around because we just had a blast hanging with all the patrons on the front patio. Great end to a dynamo game night! Next time we visit we will definitely be stopping by to at least say hello to Steven!

jacqi k.

Yelp
My husband left his card at the bar to run a tab from aprox 7pm-9pm and they lost it. Absolutely ridiculous, they need to be running a pre auth system if they can't hire competent bartenders. I find this just so preposterous when any modern bar doesn't even hold your card!! Definitely never returning here, normie bars are so dangerous and irresponsible. WOW! They actually found my husband's card the next day and TRIED TO CHARGE HIM! Absolutely stupid. His tab was $15 max it should be comped because THEY DID NOT RETURN HIS CARD!
google avatar

Kayla K.

Yelp
In town from Boston! Although the bathroom is really far away this place is great. Even on a Monday afternoon when it's 35 degrees outside. Monique behind the bar is great we even bought her pizza to show her appreciation. Beware of shady deals in the bathroom...

Yelp
I found this great place, after I'd literally circled around downtown Houston for over 2+ hours.... not joking! It is truly Ghostly for Friday night... I mean, yeah, you can always go fancy... or you can always go with quickie, like subway or juicy bar... after thorough review of entire blocks..... i crashed into this great place Teresa behind the counter is just classy... its just hard to take your eyes away from her~ not just a hottie, she is certainly the women-in-control for the entire night crew~ It is not hard to figure out, it is an Irish pub from their menu... so, what did i do? I just have to pick their signature Ruben! this place also has Karaoke going.... And, as the night grew~ you can see the place is finally lighten up~ but, honestly... any local L.A. bar can beat this place, crowd-wise, in any given week night... LOL love this place~ and Teresa is certainly awesome!
google avatar

Lauren J.

Yelp
I have been here once. They had some great beer and tequila special, so that was cool. I have yet to be back, but I probably should.. Just don't make it to actual downtown all that often. Put it on the list. I like the chill atmosphere. We also happened to run into a really uncool bachelor party who were all trying to fight our 6'8'' friends. Idiots.
google avatar

Dylan M.

Yelp
I love all pubs and will five star them as long as they provide libations and sustenance at a reasonable price with nice service! Downtown Houston, post 30 mile bike ride on these brutal ass streets and sidewalks and dirt paths and I needed a beer and sandwich and Mollys pub came through!
google avatar

Yelp
I was downtown last weekend looking for a place to grab some food when it started to pour. I happened to spot this place and tried it out. It was about 7pm on a Saturday night and he place was pretty dead. Although Downtown is weird in general when it comes to "going out" unless it's the flying saucer where it always has a good size crowd. Anyway the place was pretty cool. Tables and coves lead you to the back where pool and darts can be found. I believe there is an upstairs to this place as well. Getting to the food. The price for items is great. I got a pulled pork BBQ sandwich and fries for 6 bucks and it was really good. All the sandwiches where priced the same. The only down side is the limited menu. They didn't have a burger listed on it, there was a texas burger special on a chalkboard but nothing in the menu like a cheeseburger. They have about 20 sandwiches listed so you should be able to find something. Fries were good as well. Wait staff was really nice as well. Beer is pretty cheep, they have a different special each day. I could see myself going with a bunch of friends grabbing some drinks and relaxing. It's that type of place

Yelp
Although im flattered that the bartender rejected my id (i guess that means i look young), it's a LEGITIMATE id. The DPS, being the gems they are, happened to send me my DL with a picture of me that is distant and smaller than usual. Due to my lazyness, unwillingness to wait in line for 6 hours, and lack of wanting to deal with their attitudes, I havent gone back to the DPS to fix my license yet. I have gotten into countless bars with this ID and have gotten through airport security a bunch of times as well. All you have to do is use the little light thingy and scan the back and you'll see its real. this is the ONLY place that gave me a hard time. And i wasnt a fan of the lady bartender. This was a while ago so maybe she's not there anymore. but seriously, either up the technology in this place and get those scanny things. Or recognize that IF i wanted to bring in a fake ID, i wouldnt bring one that looked so obviously fake. PS... the DPS of houston sucks. a yelp review for another daaaaaaaay
google avatar

Nelson R.

Yelp
Something has really changed. Went for lunch... Sandwiches are much smaller than they use to be, and service isn't the best but if you're not in a hurry who cares.

Yelp
Having lived in Ireland for a while, I decided to make it my mission to find an "authentic" Irish Pub in Houston once I moved back! And, thankfully, I did! Molly's Pub is a place I enjoy going being at because it makes me feel I'm back in Ireland for the time I'm there. Also, the atmosphere is so chill and perfect after a long day of work at the office downtown. Lastly, the people who work there have been so nice. I remember one night there were not alot of people at the pub and the bartender was nice enough to offer us a sample of some drinks he was making. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a nice place to have drinks and a good conversation.
google avatar

Katie D.

Yelp
Rude management who are not customer focused. When I told the that I'm surprised how they treat customers in a review focused world, he said if that makes you feel like you're tough go ahead. Dare accepted!
google avatar

Darrin W.

Yelp
When downtown and need a drink, this is one of a couple bars i like to go to. Drinks are good , and average price. The bartenders are always really nice and helpful. Iv heard they sell some sort of bar food/sandwhiches but iv only seen a menu looks good though. Got a pool table in the back with a dart board, and an elevator. You see there are two levels, downstairs, everything i mentioned. Upstairs the bathroom and a private party room. I will still give it 5 stars even though the bathroom is so inconviently located when have some drinks in you and having to go more often than usual. I always have a blast with some friends.
google avatar

Alan S.

Yelp
Hit this place up for about an hour this past Saturday night. Another place that some friends seem to think is great. It's a typical bar downstairs, but the upstairs gives this place the 3rd star. There is a nice outdoor balcony and karaoke! However, only bottled beer is available upstairs for some dumb reason. It's a chill place that is worth checking out for something a little different.
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Fabulous place to host a party. I recently booked the private upstairs party room for the after-party following an event across the street at the Rice Hotel. Patrick, the owner, was easy to get a hold of and responsive throughout the planning process. For example, a few days before the party I asked if he could make a sign for us directing attendees upstairs and he responded immediately saying yes. The best part was the price - he charged us $150 for the use of the room and provided three bartenders. There was no minimum either. In addition to the great service, the space worked well. There is a nice balcony overlooking Main Street. There are high-top tables and a bar with seats along the wall. If you are looking for a place to host a party downtown, this is it!

Anthony H.

Yelp
This is a fairly decent place although I was there on a Saturday night and it was busy, Service was good and the Bartender Amy pours a wicked Black& Tan The Clientele has a bit to be desired but that was outweighed by the service and the Sandwiches. The Sandwiches are Awesome and reasonable
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
We enjoyed our short stay there and we stayed in the balcony upstairs and had some drinks and had Pizza which tasted like frozen Digiorno from the store which is no good at all but the bartenders were friendly.
google avatar

Julian P.

Yelp
Great place friendly atmosphere. Steve is amazing real cool guy makes you feel at home. First time in Houston and he welcomed us like family. I will be back and recommend everyone to come see Steve at Molly's.

Ashley S.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite place to hang out when in Houston! Such a cool, friendly environment! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to have a good time in Downtown Houston!
google avatar

Tia W.

Yelp
Cheap lunch. I had a tasty BLT and chips for only 5 bucks . I will definitely return again.
google avatar

Arko B.

Yelp
Located in downtown, this bar is a little on the expensive side. I am not saying it is bad but it has lots of things that it can improve on. We ordered a shot, asking them to mix Bailey's Irish cream with Rumple Minze, and the bartender gave us the shots without mixing them properly. We could see two fuzzy layers of differing density as it was not mixed properly. We also ordered B52s which were great though.
google avatar

Melinda O.

Yelp
MP needs to update menu. Ordered the Brat, they don't have it. Ordered turkey sandwich, they don't have turkey. Asked for chili bowl to go, they don't have a way to package it to go. WTF!!
google avatar

Marie B.

Yelp
This was my third visit to this establishment and it will certainly be my last. Previous visits were marked by generally average service but the place has some character inside and I was thirsty, so it's worth a visit. I dropped in at about 9.30 on Saturday night for a beer, when i asked what draught beers where beinig served the waitress told me that 'uh most of the taps are not working' but she reeled off a couple that were. After ordering one she poured half a glass of froth and told me that had just run out..... OK probably best to try a bottle. Are you serving food? Yes. So we ordered some food, after about 15 minutes the waitress came over to our table and told us that the food was not being served right now but added 'we might start serving food later' (?). Byeeee...

Suki D.

Yelp
Hot and smelly. We came in, had 1 drink and walked out. We intended to watch a basketball game there but the tvs were small and just wasn't the right vibe for that. We ended up finishing our 1 drink outside in their seating since it was cooler outdoors than in.
google avatar

Erik G.

Yelp
I don't know what to think. I used to come here all the time when I first moved here. It was a great place, everythng was clean and the bartenders were super nice and knowledgable. Now....not so much I went in the other day and had to explain that Tito's is a brand of vodka, and a press means soda and sprite. I mean really, you are in Texas and you are a bar tender? And it really smelled like...dead something. And they tried to cover it up with something girly. gross. It's dirty. I think what really ran this place down was when they got rid of the manager and good bartenders a few years back. It's been downhill ever since. They had a daytime bartender (gone now) that would let homeless people in during the day. After that, business people would come in after work, and see the homeless or near homeless, and would walk right out. Saw it with my own eyes plenty of times. They never really recovered from that. It causes good regulars to quit coming because we dont like to be harassed for money. no regulars means the bartenders don't give a damn about the place because they arent making any money. It's just a bad downword spiral Speaking of homeless, that is a huge problem here. You cant enjoy the patio outside because without a fail, a homeless person will bug you for change or a cigarette. always. the prices are cheap, they have a ton of TV's. the building itself is really cool. I just can't go back to being a regular here because it's gone downhill so badly. I go to Warrens around the corner instead. I do still frequent other Molly's. The clear lake Mollys (same owners) is about 10x better.
google avatar

Sharon S.

Yelp
I love this place. It has great atmosphere and a wide variety of band showcased each weekend. We've been here several times and always end up here when trekking to H-Town. Food is so-so, but the place is so kick back and relax that I just don't care. Besides, who goes to a pub for the food??? The outdoor terrace is a great place to hang out with friends and enjoy a spirit or a brew. 5 stars!

Jay W.

Yelp
Irish type pub offering all of 4 Jewish Deli sandwiches? The bartender girl ignored me totally to talk with friends so I left. Better places with food and tons more beer options just outside the city.
google avatar

Toni S.

Yelp
We had a great time. A group of us traveling for work went here one night and they treated us like royalty. Really a good bunch off people. The karaoke was a fun little treat. They're weren't many people there when we arrived but by the end of the night it was packed out. I didn't think that happened on a Tuesday night. The drinks were pretty cheap, which was a real problem because some of the group took advantage of that lol but the night was pretty cool. Not a bad thing to say about this place. Cute little dive with some pretty nice people in it.
google avatar

Lizard D.

Yelp
Beers where good. They have rockets on the TVs. But the food meh the pizza is cheap. Even though it was cheap the pizza was totally tostino frozen pizza. So meh wish they where better.
