Momo Souls - Review - Culver City - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The focus of this fast-casual Culver City spot is clear: lots of momos. There are nearly 20 types on the menu, available with chicken, vegan, or paneer fillings and served with dipping sauces like cilantro mayo, sesame tomato, tamarind, or sweet chili.  A few other larger entrees like chow mein, fried rice, and curry bowls are available, too, and the dining room features a fun LA-meets-Nepal mural with prayer flags, palm trees, Buddhist icons, and the Hollywood sign. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Cathy Park

We got 40 Momos for dinner 😅 it was my first time trying momos and these were amazing! The vegan ones I got (manchurian and coco) were flavorful and filling and I’ll definitely be coming back to try the noodles. The owner threw in a free shaved ice and they were flavors I’ve never tried! I loved it!

Google
Had to come in to see what the hype was about and it did not disappoint! Had the curry and mango lassi. Yum! Wish there was a few more pieces of chicken but the flavor was so good you almost don't miss it. Owner was very nice and place is quiet in middle of day if you want a peaceful place to eat. Glad I was able to try it and def will come back!

Truly a gem in a strip mall! Jonathan Gould I believe would have appreciated the tastes, quality and service! They cater to vegan and vegetarian options and even accommodated a no cilantro request. The sauces are delicious; momos light and made well. They serve dishes in plates made of dried leaves from Nepal- 100% authentic. For dessert they have different options including homemade Indian ice cream flavors and a few tubs of Thrifty flavors. Highly recommend!

Google
AMAZING new addition to the Palms restaurant scene. Great food, great service, awesome family-run spot for vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters alike! I went here for dinner with a friend and we got the vegan Vindaloo momo, chicken Szechuan momo, and kulfi cream ice cream. The vegan momo filling is a mix of soy, cabbage, ginger, and other herbs/spices and are definitely the best vegan/vegetarian momo I’ve had. They were out of the paneer momo today, but I’ll be back soon to try it! All the sauces (both the ones in the main dish and the ones served in the side) are super flavorful and complement the momo really well. Do yourself a favor and check out the food here, it’s not to be missed!! The owners were also super friendly and attentive, they’re clearly very passionate about the food and service! I can’t wait to come back to try more of the dishes, Momo Souls has definitely earned a spot in my usual rotation.

Love this amazing Nepalese restaurant we found! Delicious food, super friendly people, and a really warm atmosphere. Huge bonus that they do vegan and vegetarian versions of everything! We'll definitely be back.

Google
This new Himalayan restaurant is a gem! They used to be a ghost kitchen and now they have a brick and mortar location. The momos are delicious. There are so many flavor options to choose from for each type of dish. They add 4 different chutneys for dipping which add even more to the flavors. I will def make repeat visits here!

Nepalese food is unique with a blend of North Indian and Chinese flavors and techniques. Momos are classic dumplings and momo soul brings the classic flavors from Kathmandu. When you see the word ‘schezuan’ anything, you know it’s the famous schezuan sauce, fiery and bold. They also do the soy chaap, which I have not come across anywhere else in North America. Soy chaap is a meat alternative that’s steamed and then fried to mimic chicken or any other meat. It can be had in many different types of curries or sauce bases. I tried the paneer (cottage cheese) momos that come with stir fried peppers and onions in a fiery red schezuan sauce. Soy chaap with schezuan sauce and had a similar stir fry in red sauce to the momos along with a side order of rice that helps mellow out the heat. I also got the coco curry bowl with tofu, think green curry with tofu. Despite asking for medium, unlike the other two dishes that were fiery, this one was mild. You can pick your protein from chicken to soy to paneer depending on the type of dish you get. Overall a very satisfying takeout that lasted over 3 meals. A definite solid addition to the west side that is proudly authentic. Tashi the owner from Kathmandu was sweet and offered us a sample of ice cream while we waited for our order. We will be back to eat in person as they seemed to serve on plant based leafy bowls. Tip: they have fresh home made ice cream that was pretty satisfying, however some flavors may use a bunch of food color, so ask if you are allergic or don’t want a multi colored tongue. Tip: if you can handle some spice, go for medium. They bring the flavors of the subcontinent and are not shy in bringing on the heat. Tip: Free parking lot, although watch for certain spots that only allow 15 minute parking for pickups.

Yelp
I've been very excited to try Momo Souls since they opened last month! We ordered take out, around $40 for two dishes and a side with tax. It was incredible! I've had momos before but never with a curry or sauce, and it was so delicious. The momos were plump and juicy, the sauce was aromatic and decadent. The noodle dish was equally delicious, and the portion size was huge! I can't wait to try other items on the menu. The owner was very nice as well. The food was packaged well and was plated nicely even for take out. next time I will eat in the store to get the vibe, but seems quite casual and chill. Thank you Momo Souls, welcome to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Really delicious! We had some paneer bites and two different momos -- a chat one and a Kurkure one. Both excellent and we ended up taking a fair bit home as leftovers. I hadn't had momos before, but it turns out they're fantastic.

Yelp
I remember the taco spot that used to be here (I left them a bad review), so I'm glad Momo Souls has taken over this space. So far I've tried the chicken butter masala momos and the pakora, and both were excellent. The momos were flavorful and comforting, with just the right amount of spice, and the pakora had a perfect crispiness. The sauces they came with were delicious and really tied everything together. The food feels fresh and made with care, and I really hope they stick around in this plaza for a long time.

Yelp
Just tried this place for the first time a few weeks back and HOLY COW was I blown away. I've never tried Nepalese Momos before, but I can easily say I cannot wait to come back. The atmosphere of the restaurant is super homey - like you're walking into the dining room of a close friend. The art and interior is such a unique nod to both LA and Nepalese culture The owner (Sima) was super kind and gave me great recommendations as a first timer. My friend and I shared the butter masala, manchurian, and the crispy momo along with a bunch of the side sauces. My personal favorite was the butter masala, but each were easily a 15/10. I also finished off a mango lassi in just under a few minutes. We had a few left over that made for a great snack later. Overall such an awesome addition to the LA food scene. I can't wait to come back to try more!

Yelp
My first time having momos. I got the Manchurian Momos. They were good and spicy. You get about 10 or more per order. I had a few left over for a late night snack. I went back again and got the Himalayan Chow Mein and the butter chicken. Both were good and I would be happy to try more items from the menu.

Yelp
First time trying Himalayan/Nepalese food and it was great! Loved the Indo-Chinese fusion food. Got the butter masala and manchurian momos and they were good. However, my favorite was the Himalayan Chow Mein. I loved the texture of the noodles and the crispy chicken bits. Paired with the creamy garlic sauce, it was yummy. Worth checking out!

Yelp
Pretty incredible momo (Nepalese for dumpling) shop that also serves noodles, curries and other fare. Their Coco momo is amazing - dumplings in a hot & rich coconut milk plus yellow curry that is both spicy and creamy. The interior is decorated with some very awesome designs. Service at the counter very friendly and fast as well. I believe this used to be a taco shop, and before that a brick-and-mortar version of Roy Choi's Chego. Highly recommended if you are in the Palms neighborhood of LA!

Yelp
Love their different types of Momo's, Kurkure is a must try! Chow mein was delicious. I got it delivered and it was still hot when I got to me.

Yelp
This restaurant is very close by and I was SO excited to try it! Found the owner - at least I think she's the owner - quite rude. She did not acknowledge my presence as I stood there for over a minute waiting to be handed the bag that held my order. Honestly, I was standing right in front of the cash register, behind which she stood, my food languishing there. I found the momos overwrought and without nuance, though their quality seems sound enough. I tried the Afghani on visit #1 and the Butter Masala the following visit. Neither wowed me. And the food is overpriced in my opinion. 3 bucks? For a naan that can fit in the palm of your hand?? Really??? Ripoff. Regardless, I feel zero guilt, having given the place a second chance. Won't be giving it a third. The only reason Momo Souls is getting 3 stars and not 2 is because the gentleman behind the counter is really nice and very helpful.

Yelp
What a find!!!!! This place adds another hot spot to our neighborhood!!! We had the momo with Tamarind, a spicy chicken and a spicy cauliflower... all of them were sooo delicious!! Little spicy, totally balanced... so many flavors in 1 bite!!! I could go back tonight ... Ask for Tashi, he explains so well. They have also vegan and vegetarian options. Highly highly recommended!!!

Yelp
I like the diverse selection of flavors that I can't easily order nearby, but I've yet to try enough dishes. We ordered Butter Masala Fries, Szechuan Himalayan Chow Mein, and Szechuan Masala Momo Dumplings via Uber Eats. Not every restaurant packs the sauce separately so we appreciated how the fries didn't arrive soggy. Chow Mein was huge - but a miss for us. Texture was fine but we weren't big on the smoky spice flavor. The butter masala tastes as expected of any good butter masala - it just leans on the heavier side since it's meant to be poured on the fries. The Szechuan Masala Dumplings were coated with a single layer of heavy spices and accurately had a medium heat level as requested. The flavor range wasn't too broad - nothing notably sharp to me. I think that's where you'd want to dip the dumplings more frequently in the various sauces they give you. Something about this tasted a bit bitter. I'm gonna try the other dumplings next time!

Yelp
True authentic Nepali food! Tried the classic momos and they were truly like my parents would make them. The sauces were also incredible. Owners are very kind

Yelp
coco, achari, paneer chili SMACKS. New favorite spot. One of the best restaurants in the entire area

Yelp
I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. The samosas, specifically, were EXCELLENT. That coupled with an extremely kind and welcoming staff were the saving graces. Everything else was pretty disappointing: The butter chicken momos were confusingly covered in cheese? We went with mild to share with the baby. Close your eyes and it tasted exactly like vodka sauce - which is not what I wanted. Momos themselves were tasty though. Korma was unlike any other korma I've ever had, and tasted strongly of powdered ginger. The fried chicken lollipops looked completely different than the photo shared by the business online. They were 90% breaded coating, 10% chicken. The fried rice was clearly made with a big bag of frozen veggies mixed in - not bad, but the overall dish felt expensive and underwhelming. The garlic naan was TINY - roughly 1/4 the size of what I was expecting! They also forgot the mint chutney, which we paid extra for. I'll might try again in a few months after they've settled in, but we were pretty bummed out by the first impression.

Yelp
Tasty food. Very friendly owners. Ice cream with Indian flavors Momo and curry are fantastic. Highly recommend this

Yelp
HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND - This is THE SPOT!! Authentically amazing Nepalese Momos plus a bunch of other creative Indian fusion dishes. Was immediately greeted with the owner Seema who could not have been more lovely and is the heart and soul behind Momo Souls. We told her we found her from an Instagram foodie who shared their amazing review. She knew exactly which video we saw, pulled it up and made PERFECT recommendations for us first timers. We got the paneer momos in butter masala and it was pure love and comfort food in a bowl - rich creamy and slightly sweet. We also got the chicken momos in the chili sauce which was party of just the right amount of heat balanced with the sweet and tart tomato sauce. We also tried the vegan momos in the 65 sauce which transported us to India with the depth of the curry spices. We tried all of the sauces which created 30 different combinations of a culinary experience we didn't want to end. Seema suggested we get some paratha to dip into the momo sauces and it was a grand finale to a truly delicious adventure. The interior is so adorable and personalized to Seema's culture and life in LA. There is a beautiful selection of Indian ice cream in flavors like Rose and saffron. We tried samples before our meal and will have to come back because after wiping our momo bowls clean with the paratha there wasn't any room left for ice cream THIS time! To remember this sweet first time experience my friend got us momo keychains which are way cuter than a Labubu on its best day! Grab a friend and travel to Nepal without leaving LA! This will become a regular spot for us for sure and we are so excited Momo Souls is here!

Yelp
INCREDIBLE!! Get every MOMO. This place is fantastic. Every dish was so unique and delicious. I'm so happy to find a Nepali restaurant close to me
google avatar

Remy H.

Yelp
Tasty and fairly priced dishes! The Momo Mania steamed dumplings had good amount of filling in each and enjoyed the difference sauces available. The spicy tomato and masala sweet chili were my favorite. The chow mein was a little too heavy on the spices for me but a large portion size.
google avatar

Robbie R.

Yelp
Butter masala momo about worth the tiny bit of confusion during pick up! Absolutely recommend with the naan
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious, plentiful food. Butter masala momo (dumplings) were fantastic! Incredible homemade ice cream - ooo, the cardamom infused Kulfi Kreme is divine! Just the loveliest people making beautiful dishes! A delightful experience overall!

Henry M.

Yelp
Delicious! Thrilled to have another spot in the neighborhood, and one as unique as this. I highly recommend. Everyone was very friendly and offered my kids some generous tastes of ice cream while we waited. The fresh squeezed Cane Sugar juice was a nice touch as well. We had the Butter Masala and the Manchurian Momo's. Both with chicken and both medium heat. The Manchurian was spicier and both were very delicious. Garlic Naan was great, next time we may add some rice to soak up all that delicious sauce. Can't wait to come back and try them all!
google avatar

Cy L.

Yelp
These are with chicken filling. This was phenomenal. Even though I got them delivered, they were super juicy with the perfect dumpling skin to filling ratio. I tried the non-sauced versions to taste the dumplings for themselves (the side sauces were very tasty tho) I will definitely coming back to try the more flavorful and saucy dumplings! Might be my new obsession

Liza P.

Yelp
so so happy that this restaurant joined the neighborhood! super delicious food and extremely kind service. Sima was very sweet and patient and helped us decide on two momo dishes (korma and chicken 65). both were delicious and complemented each other well. I like a little spice and wish i'd done medium spice for both (instead of low spice for the korma). we ended the meal with delicious ice cream, which they have in several indian flavors. I cannot wait to come back :)
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful food! Mainly get the noodles, but have also tried the curry and the dumplings. Very good food at a very fair price! I usually get the spicy spice level which is decently hot. Wonderful people in charge of that place. Apparently they're opening up a physical restaurant soon.

Hetanshee S.

Yelp
Great taste, always delicious Consistency a little affected on weekends, otherwise no complaints
google avatar

Yelp
I had their Dumplings in the Butter Chicken sauce along with the Naan. OMG! It was soooooo good!! Next day left over was just as good! Gonna try other things next time. Highly recommend! Yumsers x 10

Yelp
Got takeout and loved it. The spicy sesame beef momos were a highlight, but everything ended up being really good.

Rynn W.

Yelp
five stars just based on service and vibes and the options that all looked rlly good. haven't tried the food yet but i feel in my gut it will be amazing.

Vai K.

Yelp
We ordered delivery from this restaurant. Very disappointing because we like to try new local businesses but an experience like this makes you not want to bother. The portions were ridiculously small for the price(see picture). Flavors were bland, the butter chicken was mostly gravy with no flavor. And the food was so oily, it gave me a stomach ache. I'm frankly surprised at all the great reviews because nothing we ordered would make us try this place again.
google avatar

Daniella E.

Yelp
Beef momos and spicy tomato dip was so good! I didn't know how big the Momo's were going to be, so I just ordered one orders of Momos and this would be good for a light dinner. I wish I ordered something else to go along with it because I'm really hungry today so it a good thing I got a lassi to drink. This filled me up! it's one of my favorite things to drink and this one did not disappoint! The yogurt, mango, the sweetness level, perfect!!
google avatar

Anna M.

Yelp
Delicious dumplings with lots of vegan options. Very good prices. I'm shocked there aren't more dumpling places around after trying Momo Souls which specialize in dumplings which come in a choice of sauces, curries and cooking styles.

Yvonne S.

Yelp
I am writing this review for my sis because she orders from here a lot. I love the Wai Wai salad. Wai Wai you ask? In 80 degree weather, it is the perfect dinner. You eat the salad cold and mix in the crunchy noodles which makes it seem like you are eating healthy junk food. The 3 dressings are yummy: one is hot, one is tomatoey, and one is hard to describe but is my absolute favorite. The mango lassi is yummy as well. It is not too sweet and tastes of yogurt and mango. Say "hi" to the kitchen staff in the comments section. They are all very nice! A P.S. note from me: my sis has been trying for something like 2 months to get the Wai Wai salad for a coworker to taste, but every time her coworker is scheduled to come in (they only come in twice a month), the Wai Wai salad is out of stock. Guess that means it is quite popular!

Nutu N.

Yelp
the BEST HIMALAYAN DUMPLINGS IN ALL LA. my favorite was the butter chicken with the plain rice. the soup was so creamy and buttery the chicken wss good amount and pairing it with the steamed rice was a win win situation. I also ordered their chicken pan fried dumplings the bottom of the dough had the perfect crunch with juice broth inside. Would highly recommen.

Taylor H.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Arrived Hot and fresh, nice and juicy! Can't wait to try new items!
